AFL Teams 2017: Round 5

Aidyn Johnson (Fwd $150,000)

5:00 pm Friday 20/04/2017

Sunday extended benches are in. Aaron Black (Fwd $150,000) is a confirmed in for the cats. As is George Horlin-Smith (Mid $262,000)
Also some news on those Monday and Tuesday games, where pre teamsheet announcements have never been so important.
Michael Hibberd (Def $428,000) and Jesse Hogan (Fwd $508,000) are confirmed to play for dees.
We don’t know teamsheets for Dons or Pies, but we do have the teamsheets for their VFL lineups which could be useful for determining who can be selected… Collingwood seconds list is here, and Dons seconds list is here.
Still some concern about Dustin Martin (Mid $652,000) being a late withdraw chance. I’d make sure you have bench cover.
Some reports that Jay Kennedy-Harris (Fwd $150,000) could be named for the dees, which would put Mitch Hannan (Fwd $242,000) at risk for being omitted.

Friday Updates

6:25 pm Thursday 20/04/2017

Teams are in for MOST but not all games this weekend. Well to a complete shock to me (And likely you all as well) it seems both Monday and Tuesday game teamsheets will not be named until Saturday…which is after lockout. Ouch is all I have to say about that.
On top of this there is a bit of carnage. Rookies Robbie Fox (Knee), Nic Newman (Omitted), Oliver Florent (Omitted), Braydon Preuss (Rested), Harley Balic (Hip), Tim Taranto (Managed)James Parsons (Suspension) are all out as well as mid premo Sam Mitchell is out with his ankle injury.
Ed Vickers-Willis (Def $150,000) and Lewis Melican (Def $150,000) are making their debuts, and we finally get to see Isaac Heeney (Fwd $442,000) who is back after having Glandular Fever.

5:00 pm Thursday 20/04/2017

Full teams from ~6:15pm tonight. Be aware there is a Monday and Tuesday game this week. This means unfortunately there are 2 games where we won’t know extended bench selections before lockout. (Apparently full teamsheets!)

Some early News, Matthew Kreuzer (Ruck $502,000) has been ruled out with Soreness. We will see another Blues rookie debut with Cameron Polson (Fwd $150,000). This is the Blues sixth for the season.
Daniel Wells (Mid $531,000) is set to debut for the pies. It will be very interesting to see what sort of role they will play with him.
And for those who thought Allen Christensen (Fwd $405,000) could have been a potential POD, unfortunately he is out for the season. Ben McNiece (Def $150,000) has been upgraded from the rookie list an is a chance of debut for the dons.

Is the little master Gary Ablett (Mid $604,000) back? After a woeful second round and a lot of media attention, he has smashed out 138 and 118. Thoughts would be appreciated, cheers.

  • No JOM either ffs..

    • JOM said himself last week in an interview with Bruce that he was going to play. Lies

  • curse you Ross Lyon

  • Get Fisher and have 100k or play it safe and get Houston?

  • i need help in which duo to go with…

    Lloyd and Nankervis
    or
    Grundy and Hampton

    ……. cheers

  • is shuey the real deal now are people thinking?

  • Jacobs (112K) or Grundy (2k)

  • Newman to hodge + 11k
    Or
    Newman to Roberton + 43k
    Or
    Newman to Wellingham + 112k

Thinking opinion 3 but would like thoughts on which one?

  • Would love some help with trade options:

    1. Hampton>EVW &…
    1a. Roughy>Macrae (61K left)
    1b. Watson>Rocky (95K)
*Would need to field Stewart or EVW

    2. Stewart>EVW & Roughy>Yeo (18K)
    3. Stewart>EVW & Watson>…
    3a. Sloane (30K)
    3b. Ablett (95K)
    3c. Murphy (67K)

    Thanks in advance

    • I like 3a. Sloane will be a top 8 mid.
-Gaz will get injured and has first bye.
-I don’t think Murphy’s form will hold (prove me wrong Murph), but if you think it will, get him in.
      – I think give Hampton another week, rather him on field than Stewart or EVW.

  • can someone please explain to me how to DPP trade on fantasy?

  • EVW or Williamson? (Will be on field)

  • Parfitt worth the extra 128k over EVW?

    • His job security seems assured… for the time being at least. Not sure about EVW. I already have him, but not sure I’d be in the market for him at his current price

  • I know he’s been dropped but does anyone think Newman might actually be back next week?

    • Definitely possible, could even play this week if there is a late Sydney out.

Melican could be overwhelmed and play shit, Rohan could re-injure himself, Heeny could have come back too early and not have full fitness. They will probably be 0-5 after this weekend, maybe Horse will swing the axe?

  • Does anyone think EVW will play lockdown roles? Or will they be given to thompson, tarrant and hansen?

    • I think he’ll be a ball carrying defender and maybe get some wing time. He’s in the side for Hrovat and has been racking up in the VFL.

  • Taranto and Newman to Vickers-Willis and Polson, 274K in the bank as a result, for a big upgrade next round! Might be able to add Merrett to my side, can’t wait :D

In my opinion your better off saving for keepers rather than picking someone that may not be reliable. Don’t chase 2 or 3 scores which don’t match with past performances, you might live to regret it

  • Taranto and Newman to Vickers-Willis and Polson, 274K in the bank as a result. Big upgrade next round! Might be able to add Merrett to my side, can’t wait :D

In my opinion your better off saving for keepers rather than picking someone that may not be reliable. Don’t chase 2 or 3 scores which don’t match with past performances, you might live to regret it

    • Do you really think EVW will play more than 2 games in a row?
Newman will be back in those 2 weeks with negative BE

100% agree that now it should be cashcows and premo keepers

  • Would you get Fisher and have $97k in bank or GHS $47k in bank? Help please

    • Fisher,

Once Scott Selwood back GHS role will change and lack points

      Fisher making good steady $$$

  • Got me F**ked why Newman has been dropped! Definitely back next week once he realises that melican will play like a pelican.
For those looking at trading Newman to EVW
    Don’t!!!!
Newman I think will be back next week and I’d prefer to play Newman on my field ahead of Hampton, so hold Newman, but upto you.

had a choice this week in upgrading either
Roughy or swallow and I swallowed the bullet and traded swallow to Kelly, I see rough going near 100 this week against the eagles, so waiting on a game from Heeney, matera, and also again burton as for rough, so I think I did good trades.
Can’t see preuss coming back anytime in the next month so also done Preuss – king as I see king potentially getting a game to help spencer out.

    • I’m doing Newman to EVW – It lets me bring in Murphy and Polson after getting rid of Roughie. I’ve committed to bringing Murphy in and Newman’s my best option to trade out, out of Hampton, Nank, Preuss.

The way I see it is I can bring Newman back in for Hampton if he plays next week or the week after. Hampton needs to go soon regardless but he still has a lowish BE so no point getting rid of him if there’s a nonplaying rookie I can trade out instead

  • So I have Newman, Barrett, Preuss, Miles, Taranto. I really want to trade Shaw the spud to Murphy via DPP and Taranto down to Polson. This leaves me with no ruck cover and 4 rooks sitting on the pine not playing. Should I forget Murphy and trade another rook, or get him in?

    • Sounds alright, Swans are debuting a new defender if he is bad Newman might be back in, Newman and Barrett are both emergencies with very low break evens, so I’m doing other things and think you should as well, only need to play 1 more game to go up 40k. Trade to a new rook no guarantee they’ll continue and won’t make much in the first game.

  • Which 2 to trade out of ; preuss, taranto, newman, ainsworth, barrett, hibbert

  • Who to field out of EVW or berry?

  • I just knew I shouldn’t have joined this stupid fucking competition this year.

  • Can anyone explain to me why a guy averaging 113 is only in 0.41% of teams?.
    Talking about Mitch Duncan.

    • He’ll end up averaging around 100, but he was awkwardly priced – why would anyone have started with him when Beams & Heppell were cheaper?
I had him all last year and he was great.

  • trade or hold barrett?

  • Anyone risking Heeney this week?

    • I reckon you can give him a week to see where he’s at. BE is 76, if he’s good he won’t go up too much, if he’s bad he’ll go down in value and you can wait for him to find form.

  • What do yous think of these trades?
Preuss-Polsen via nank and then JOM – Sloane

  • Need to field two out of Hampton, Otten, Williamson and Vickers-Willis. Which two??

  • laird, touhy, otten, hampton, marchbank, newman (stewert, hibberd)
dangerfield, titch, fyfe, beams, oliver, llyod, adams, treloar (barret, mountford)
    martin, nankervis (preuss, cameron)
anb, miller, dahlhous, hoskin-elliot, rough, houston (eddy, pickett)

57k in the bank, 2 trades remaining, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • Gotta fix up that defence otherwise you’ll have Stewart on the field, which is not at all desirable. I’d trade Hibberd or Stewart to EVW, as Newman’s BE is too valuable to pass up on just yet, so he’s worth a hold.

Outside of that, perhaps trade Roughy? Not delivering too well, might be worth a downgrade to a rookie

    • I would switch Lloyd from midfield into the defense as Stewart on your field is the BIG concern.Trade out Hibberd for Z.Fisher and get rid of Eddy for Polson. These are my trades as well as my team is very similar to yours. Then for next week you should get rid of Mountford to another rook. Just my two cents.

  • Which trade should I do?

Option 1 – The trade every other person has asked about or

Option 2 – Crap rookie to Rocky?

  • Tough week this one…rookie carnage with Newman,Barrett,Balic,Mountford,Miles,Taranto,Eddy & Preuss not selected. Preuss bench cover anyways so hopefully all good there…planning to hold Newman,Balic,Barrett,Preuss &Taranto for next week…all have too good a money to make to pull the trigger straight away especially when I can field a full 22 by trading out deadwood in Miles & Mountford for at this stage Polson & Fisher…..not sure on Polson but desperate times call for desperate measures…both will have to play onfield this week and with others planning an upgrade this week I’m already bracing for a big hit this week!!!

  • What do you guys reckon,
    a.Hibberd > Fisher +$3k
    b.Hibberd > EVW +$65k
    c.Stewart > EVW +$112k
    d.Stewart > Fisher +$50k
Have to field whoever I bring in.

  • Shags-hows the carnage?! Am currently on plan d for trades this week-what are your thoughts of these trades

    – t.miles > z.fisher (mid E)
    – nank > spencer (playing R2)

Gives me 290k in the bank to upgrade to a premo next wk (volt/laird/zerrett/danger).

Rook wise, gives me hampton/otten/marchbank playing def (holding newman, berry is E), SPP playing mid (holding barrett, Fisher is E), no ruck E (holding preuss/cameron), WHE/houston playing fwd (pickett is E, Eddy gone next week).

Thoughts? Maximises coin from spencer, but means carrying eddy again?

99% of Swans fans have no idea what Horse is doing in dropping Newman.

  • I have Kreuzer as R2 and Preuss on my bench. Which one do you trade Spencer in for?
If it’s Kruezer I plan to upgrade Rough to Ablett!
If it’s Preuss I plan to trade in EVW for Hibberd or Polson for Teia Miles!
Thoughts? I have decent players on all lines playing (meaning I don’t have to field Pickett or Stewart)

    • Preuss > Spencer and Polson for Miles looks good. EVW job security looks shaky.

      • Not a fan of the Ablett move? My only concern with that is Spencer being R2 and with my plan next week to adjust my non-playing rookies (Miles & Hibberd), I’d probably have to hang on to him until the Melb bye (rd 11). It’s a risk but I’ve had enough of Roughie and see Ablett as a real POD who can go big on his day!

        • Roughead is not an urgent sell considering the carnage happening this week. Planning to get rid of Roughy for Heeney, Swans have a very easy fixture list after this week. As for Ablett, if you think he can be a POD then go ahead if you wish, he is getting older so he may miss the odd game or two and more injury prone hence I am not keen.

  • Shags

Thank you for your efforts each with keeping everyone informed – much appreciated 👍

    My question is to Warnie
Now we know that you’re pretty tight at AFL HQ but please can you find out the reasoning behind the non naming of the Monday/Tuesday teams???
Last Easter Monday extended sides were named what’s the difference??
    Where’s the Absolute F*%#en Logic????
What are the Champion Data (code for complete dickheads) doing with no partial lockout??
We had two last week but none this time???
As Pauline Hanson would say Please Explain!!!!

If the likes of Martin/WHE are out and with rookie carnage many teams will be eating Krispy Kremes on the weekend!!!!!

  • Roughy to ANB or Heeney?

  • Who should be the priority out of Polsen and EVW?

  • Thoughts on these….

    Pruess to King & ….

    1. Roughie to NRoo (12K left)
    2. SPP to Josh Kelly (9K)
    3. SPP to Yeo (46K)
    4. SPP to Lloyd (29K)
    4. Watson to any mid (Rocky/Sloane/Murphy etc)

    • pressy to king ?! – is king playing ?

i have Lloyd and rate him as a top 6 defender for the season, Yeo – ive been burnt before

  • Anyone have Kreuzer and what are they doing with him?
Is it worth trading him out for spencer to generate the cash to upgrade to a premo?
