AFL Teams 2016: Round 6

No Late changes to tonights game. Lockout at 7:50pm. Good luck!

Sunday extended benches are in. Craig Bird (Mid/Fwd.) is out with a quad injury. We get a look at Jonathan Simpkin (Fwd/Mid) and James Polkinghorne (Mid. $226,000 AF $130,400 DT) at the Dons.

NEW UPDATE: Taylor Adams (Mid.) is a late withdrawal with a knee injury.

Teams are in ! Rookies galore on the ins with known debuts Petracca, Keays and Aliir, and now also other rookie inclusions Connor Blakely (Mid. $137,000 AF $157,700 DT), Kieran Lovell (Mid. $163,000 AF $130,300 DT) and return of Jade Gresham (Mid. $201,000, 20 be AF. $148,300, -15 be DT), Dougal Howard (Fwd. $135,000, 8 be AF. $128,200 DT). As confirmed Brett Deledio (Fwd.) is back, and with Fyfe out, Freo needed the David Mundy (Mid.) is back.

Those who pulled the trigger on Tom Lee (Def) last week will be disappointed he is omitted. Annoyingly another def rookie Tom Ruggles (Def) is being managed.

No truth to the rumour of Lachie Neale (Mid) being out. Yet. Put him on your late withdrawal possibility list as he is battling calf and thigh soreness. Added to Gaz who is already a concern with his injury last week, and also Montagna with his Hamstring.

Round 6 Teams to be named at ~6:15pm tonight. Some early ins and and outs already, with many debuts. Christian Petracca (Fwd/Mid. $238,000, AF. $128,200 DT) set to make his long anticipated debut. Aliir Aliir (Def. $125,000 AF $128,200 DT) to debut for Sydney to much fanfare.  Ben Keays (Mid. $176,000, 32 be AF. $121,300 DT)  who has been ripping it up in the seconds also gets to finally debut. McKenzie Willis (Fwd/Mid. $125,000 AF $121,300 DT) hot off the press just announced to debut for the suns.
Brett Deledio (Fwd.) Looks an almost certain in, but early reports are that Robbie Gray (Fwd/Mid AF Mid DT) and Lachie Neale (Mid) could be an out. We already knew Suckling and Fyfe out unfortunately due to long term injuries.

Sunday game, but calling this one early. Confirmed to debut this week is Ben Keays (Mid. $176,000, 32 be AF. $121,300 DT)  is another anticipated debuttant. The kid has been smashing it up in the seconds, and surprising he hasn’t played earlier with the lions outs.

Shags’ Pick

Kade Simpson (Def. AF $483,000 RDT $482,000 AF) been doing his thing, averaging well above 100 if not for his 1 spud game of 57 against the suns. He could rip it up against Bombers this week, and is a worthy contender for top 6 defender (especially in RDT).

Shags’ Pick

Steele Sidebottom (Mid. $570,000 be 77 AF $ 603,600 be 68 DT) had the ANZAC medal lined up after the first half last week, and he smashed it. with a low BE this week, he looks like he could be an Uber premium this year. I’d have him short listed for pig contention. He doesnt play Dons every week however.

Shags’ Pick

No new rookies to trade in, so making one of my all time favourite DT royalty Matthew Boyd (Def. $521,000 be 96 AF $549,800 be 104 DT ). He is the absolute epitome of consistent getting 92 four weeks in a row followed by a 108. Main reason people didnt start was his price, now he has dropped to about what he is averaging no reason not to upgrade your defence. Surely he is a top 6 defender in AF, and certainty in RDT.

Do you get any more hype player than Christian Petracca (Fwd/Mid. $238,000, AF. $128,200 DT). Arriving just in time for culling some of our cash cows. Comes at a steep price for a rookie, but his JS is good, and he could well live up to the hype.

Well, havent the tables turned with a huge 138 last week. Is he back? Michael Barlow (Fwd/Mid. $475,000 AF be 61 $ 508,800 DT be 68) With Fyfe out, and Injury affected Mundy and Neale, surely he will gets lots of mid time, and he is cheap with a low BE. If you want to take the punt that he is back to his best, this is the week.

P.S. Keep an eye on Connor Blakely (Mid. $137,000 AF $157,700 DT) making his debut.

Shags’ Pick

Some young hawks fan was telling me that Kieran Lovell (Mid. $163,000 AF $130,300 DT) was a gun and was smashing it in the seconds. Looked it up, he kicked 5 goals last week for box hill hawks! This is the hawks, so his JS is a bit iffy. At the very least chuck him on your watch list.

Shags’ Pick

Dougal Howard (Fwd. $135,000, 8 be AF. $128,200 DT) wasn’t that impressive in his first game a few weeks ago with a 46. Then again he wasn’t playing as ports main ruck! Obviously had enough of Lobbe as the main ruck, they are giving the rookie an initiation of fire. Maybe seeing how he can go against out of form Ivan Maric this week. A handy fwd/ruck status could be on the cards if he can hold this spot.

Shags’ Pick

I think it is fair to say that Joel Selwood (Mid. $515,000 be 66 $ 555,500 be 76) is DT Royalty, since he often has injury affected low scores, always seems to find himself as a fallen premium at some stage, and he is underpriced for what he can potentially output. And what he can output is 134 like last week. If you think he is top 8 midfield material and like his value, this is the week to snaffle with his low BE.

  • dang. With Robbie Gray out, should be holding Sam Gray…

  • Jeez Port have dropped a few!

  • Montagna not out? Thought he did his hammy??

    • Me too. But heard nothing of it since weekend. Must be fine

    • Add him to your possible late out list, and make sure you have cover.

      • St kilda afl website said joey sat out the last quarter due to hamstring tightness & he pulled up pretty well he just had to get through Thursday training and looks to be named. Coaches games?? Lachie Neale too??

  • Lonergan out, but who do I bring in: Keays or Petracca? (I am leaning to Keays.)

  • Power indeed making wholesale changes, Sam Grey could be viable now maybe?

Saying that, he aint coming back in my team never ever again. He is on the Luey list

  • Shags you’re mine this week in DT Talk league!

    Best of luck

  • Should I keep Caleb Daniel got him last week without realizing he wouldn’t play

    • Same crap happened to me. If you got bench cover you should keep, as he will likely play next week

  • Rank Fantaisa, Docherty, Simpson and Laird

    • Laird, Simpson, Docherty, Fantasia

      • Almost the same as Croz but I rank Fantasia above Docherty.

        • Lol your dreaming if you think Fantasia will ace more then Docherty. Croz is pretty spot on

          • I just dont rate Docherty, I think he is too inconsistent.
I personally think its a line ball, but Fantasia is $60k cheaper as well, and his role on the wing in dons is good, but yes he is a risk. The time to get Fantasia was the last couple of weeks.

I wouldn’t get either, Laird and Simmo far ahead of both.

  • Which 2 players should I trade first?

    Menadue, Oliver, Mackenzie, Adams

  • Best rookie to get ?

Smith, Byrne-Jones, Wagner, Allir, Keayes or Tucker ?

    • or Blakeley or Willis :P

    • Depends what you are looking for.

DBJ and Wagner have runs on the board, but as a result are quite pricey.

Tuckers first game was ok, as was Smith, and offer better value.

Keays is the best value, but as you are taking a stab in the dark on his role its risk/reward. Same as Aliir, but I think Aliir JS is poor (Might get a few weeks whilst Tessy Richards is out).

      • I’ve gotten Blakley in with my first trade

Not sure if DBJ and Wags can justy that price tag, but both have scored very well.

Smith, Willis both have shakey JS,

Heard rumours that Keays might play forward pocket and might not score well. Very tough decision. Who would you get if you had to choose ?

    • I’m getting Tucker who is safe because it gives me a week to look at Smith Blakely and Keays, all of whom I’m not so sure about.

      • Thats it really, do you take the stab in the dark, in which the $$$ winfall is more, or the conservative approach.

I think a stab in the dark when there aren’t many rookies around is fine, but with so many rookies around, it might be ok to wait 1 week and see, and pick the best of the bunch.

The first price increase isnt as much as the second as well. Most rookies have BEs about 25 first week, but second week the negative BE indicates a bigger price increase.

  • Hmmm, Oliver named as emergency. Do we hold him or trade him to someone like petracca?

    • Will so many good rookie choices Id trade. Although if you have some plump cashcows about to lose value, you might trade them instead. I certainly dont like having players sitting on my bench when there is so much value floating around.

  • Lee and Menadue to Blakeley and Keays? Keays on field

  • This has screwed my trades for the week.
I’m now looking at Lonergan and Lee to Petracca and Byrne Jones

  • What’s Blakely’s JS and scoring potential like fellas? Don’t know a lot about him

    • You have to assume he’ll be around for a while. Averaging 25 touches and 4 tackles in WAFL. It’s a wait and see for me but at 137k it’s justified.

    • Always a bit of a stab in the dark. You never really know how a rookie will perform at the top level.

He has been going well in the seconds, but WAAFL isnt the AFL, and great scores in seconds doesnt always convert to the top tier.

Its always a bit of a stab in the dark. Its not a bad strategy to get rookies in after 1 week even in AF, the first week price increase isnt as severe (Blakely starts with a BE of 26) so waiting 1 week with so many rookie options is a better move IMO.

Other rookies around with negative BES will jump up more if they score well this week.

      • Blakely. 85kg 188cm.Full 2015 in the wafl. Tackles well ,kicks goals. Only concern is he’s only been back 1 game fresh of a toe injury that kept him out for 3 weeks.

  • J Smith, Keays or Blakely?

    • Really tough.

Smith JS concerns me. With Pies spudding so bad though, they might give their rookies a go.

Smith is named on field, but that isnt a guarantee he will make the Sunday list.

Any one of the pies bench Jarryd Blair, James Aish, Matthew Goodyear, Ben Sinclair, Tim Broomhead, Alan Toovey, Brayden Maynard could replace him, if not this week, but after 1 bad week.

Blakey is coming into an injury ravaged Freo, with underdone Mundy, and injury clouds over Neale. They may even throw him in the middle.

Keays is a gun, no idea why they havent played him yet. He is one player I would consider getting in before seeing him for 1 game.

  • I don’t think this is Blakely’s debut game shags.

He played a few last year from memory.

  • love ur work shags keep it up
wondering if I should field blakely and get selwood or field wagner and get Duncan?

    • 1 I reckon perhaps

Ducan junked a shitload last game to get to a respectable score

    • Well, It may not win me the over all comp, but I really prefer to wait and see rookies for 1 week, losing their week 1 price rise (which isn’t as high as BE usually about 25).

However if you think Blakely will be worth it from the start (With Fyfe out, and underdone Mundy, as well as Neale with Injury cloud, might mean he gets lots of mid time, it might be worth the punt.

On the other hand, if you want Wagner, this is the last chance really before his price is way too high.

I much prefer Jelwood to Duncan, as Jelwood has a much higher chance of being a top 10 mid. (assuming he doesnt get himself knocked out).

I’d take the punt on Blakely/Jelwood.

  • Shags you’ve posted Adelaide twice and missed Freo’s team

    just sayin’

    • FFS thats a bad mistake. Thanks.

How did I miss that in the overview lol.

    • Think I mangled that when I did Shag’s pick for freo somehow.

I really appreciate the feedback. Couldn’t let that one stick.

  • bit oh help above pls

  • Blakely v Smith v Keays v Wright? Need to chose one of these for Cameron. Cheers lads

  • Lovely work Shaggas :)

Just a quick help me question,, is anyone else’s Android phone fantasy app not showing the new dpp’s status, and still unable to trade??? Teams are out and I thought this would be sorted by now?
All seems fine on the ipad or iPhone just not my Samsung s6? Any help or feedback would be great cheers!

    • Yeah mate. Mine wasn’t working on android app again ( no green dots too etc) two weeks in a row now. Uninstall then reinstall & should be fine. Pains in the A$$.

    • They better get that sorted hey.

  • S Gray to Pendles
    Oliver to Tucker via DPP

  • Smith v Blakely?

  • When is Beams coming back cause im thinking itll limit keays ceiling once he comes back with more of the ball to share around?

  • DBJ, petracca, j smith, or p Wright?

  • Rate following in order for most points from now until rest of year

    Selwood Priddis jpk Lewis

  • Cameron to Blakely
    Menadue/ellis to Keays ??
or are there better options out there for cash generation

  • Who should be priority trading really can’t decide, will double downgrade, and who to bring in

Weitering, dea, Cameron, Oliver, menadue, davis, and still stuck with broad from start of the year.

    • On paper alone, Id cull Oliver and Mena (and maybe broad as he is just wasting space)

It sort of depends how strong your lines are, if you can reach a good back premo Both Weitering and Cameron could be culled now but they have achievable BEs (Weitering vs bombers should score well too).

Davis is playing and Dea should go ok vs Blues.

      • My team is

DEF: shaw, laird, fantasia, weitering dea, Cameron (broad, ruggles)
MID: Ablett, Dangerfield, titchell, Adams, zaharakis, hunter, mills, kennedy (Oliver, Davis)
        RUCK: Martin, Gawn (Currie, Cox)
FWD: Hall, Martin, keriddge, wells, Adams, menadue (McGovern, McCarthy)

13k in bank, what you suggest?

        • I’ve gone
broad to Peter Wright via Marcus Adams
Menadue to smith or blakely via Ryan Davis

Keeping Oliver for one more week hoping he may play this week too

  • Thinking T Lee is toast and not going to get back into the Saints side and want to bring in D Tucker. Thoughts on Darcy Tucker JS?

    • Once you get into the top 22 in freo, they usually stay.

Ross Lyon has been getting a beating over in WA apparently for not playing the youngsters.

I reckon his JS isnt too bad

  • Smith or Blakley

  • Tucker’s BE???

  • Ruggles to Tucker or Davis to Blakely

  • Hi guys, any suggestions on who I should be moving on for 2 new rookies and which ones, only have 6k so really should try and get some cash ready for following weeks upgrades

Shaw, Fantasia, Biggs, Houli, dea, Byrne (Hartley, ruggles)
Titch, hunter, Ablett, danger, t Adams, b Ellis, kerridge, mills (menadue, Davis)
    Gawn, Jacobs (cox, Currie)
Hall, Barlow, wells, s gray, m Adams, Kent (tippa, McCarthy)

Start of week was looking at m Adams, menadue or Davis as possible trade outs, have now thought maybe ruggles and menadue but open to options

    • Blakely is everyone’s tip to go down to, and menadue out gets you 100k or so.
If you want to cash up for next week I’d lose gray and bring in keays and heaps of cash, or petracca and a bit of cash. they’re both likely to score as much as gray looks like doing.

  • Ahhhhhh cant decide between Hannebury, Parker, Danger or Jelwood … Jelwood is the value but I dunno if I can trust him!!!!!!

  • I am in a similar situation! Choosing between Hanners/Parker/Jelwood as I already have Danger. Im leaning towards Jelwood atm

  • Gone from tossing up between Hanners, Parker or Selwood to saying bugger it I’m taking a punt on Wines to carry Port for the next month. Just noticed his 111 involved zero marks!! Big scores coming. Heard it here first.

  • play keays or hewett on field??????
