AFL Teams 2016: Round 3

Sunday extended benches are named, and they are a really important one this week with many rookies places on the line, as well as a couple of premium concerns.
Josh Dunkley (Mid) & Daniel Howe (Def) didnt make the cut.
Latest Update, David Mundy (Mid) is out for the Dockers (Surely Barlow will get more mid time!) and Brad Crouch (Mid) is out for the Crows. We see a new rookie priced option come in with Jarryd Lyons (Fwd/Mid. $247,000 AF. $258,900 DT)
Its week 3, and there is quite a lot of carnage from week 2 to deal with. Huge out as we all knew with Tom Rockliff. Chad Wingard is out with a hamstring injury. There is a smattering of rookies outs across the board, so check your teams closely!

Important times to remember:

Shag’s Pick

benk
Collectively the dees players all had a shocker last week, but new recruit from the pies Ben Kennedy (Fwd/MID) stood up and was counted, making those who own him very happy. You can still snaffle in AF, but definitely chase if you dont have him in RDT on the bubble.

Shag’s Pick

The tricky thing about this game is seeing truly how well doggies are really travelling, there is no better yardstick than the hawks. We simply cannot discount the rising DT relevence of the Dogs this year.

hunt

Lachie Hunter (Mid) Start has been amazing. Many have pulled the trigger on Rocky to him this week. And why not, his Break Even is low, and there is little reason to believe he won’t keep going. However like all dogs players, playing against the best in hawks is the ultimate test.

Shag’s Pick

I was thinking about going Daniel Menzel (Fwd. $266,000, AF. $231,300 DT) who had solid NAB cup form, but then we had a new def rookie.

ruggles

Tom Ruggles (Def. $125,000, 23 be AF. $105,800 DT) comes straight into the Cats team and onto the field. In competition with def rookies Byrne and Hartley for a replacement for many of our under performing def rookies.

Jack Steven (Mid. $615,000 AF $647,400) Already averages 113.5, has continued on his merry way from last year, and put his hand up for selection as a top 8 Midfielder. Still expensive, but he may stay that way.

Shag’s Pick

Brandon Ellis (Mid. $537,000 AF $595,200 DT) Hasnt set the world on fire with an average of 87.5, however, his heatmaps have shown he is spending a lot of time in Def. So at least in AF he is a great chance of being a Def/Mid. Keep a close eye on him and maybe look to trade in when he bottoms out.

Shag’s Pick

pap

Tom Papley (Fwd. $189,000, -24 be AF. $113,300, -91 be DT) is still cheap in AF, and on the bubble RDT, he seems to have seemlessly fit into the swans team, and if he keeps playing as he has his JS which was a concern at first should be maintained.

barlow

Michael Barlow ($486,000 AF be 116 $539,100 be 153) is my pick…for all the wrong reasons. Will he finally be put in the centre, or again do little up forward. His role in the first 2 games is a great concern. Many will trade out if they don’t have any other major problems.

179 Comments

  • Before Barlow was name on ball, my trades were:
    Rocky –> Hunter
    Barlow –> Houli (via M Adams DPP)
    Now, I’m happy with the first trade and have all the good rookies. Thinking about going forward with just the one trade?

    Shaw, Laird, Sheridan, Lonergan, Dea, Adams (Tippa, Cameron)

    Titchell, Hanners, Adams, Gibbs, Hunter, B Crouch, Mills, Hewett (Davies, Menadue)

    Dusty, Barlow, Hall, Kerridge, Wells, Papley (McGovern, McCarthy)…

    Thoughts on last trade.
    75k cash left after rocky/hunter trade.
    Trying to make some cash to go crouch to Steven asap.

  • Not one person in fantasy top 8 ranking has Dusty Martin.

  • Keep Duncan? Would trade to hunter or should I just trade Harwood?

    • Really depends on your long term plan for Duncan. If your plan was to bump him up to a premium as soon as possible, then go to Hunter, as he looks to be a better points scorer and cash generator. As an owner of Duncan in AF, I am holding as my plan for him was to hold until the byes and I still believe he can go 95+ between now and the byes, so although the 16 will stunt his immediate cash generation, it will be long gone by R15.

  • 2 on the field only -hewett, mills, menadue

    1 on the field only -tippa, dea

    • Mills, Menadue and Dea for me. But as always, it is a raffle, with every rookie just as likely to throw up a 30 as they are an 80. A lot of luck involved, especially this early in the season.

  • Evening lads. Who’s the better option out of Danger and Parker? Cheers

  • Harwood to Hartley and Rockliff to zaha keeping Barlow this week for another chance …..??? Thoughts

  • Bit stuck on my 2nd trade, Already gone Rocky-Hunter
    For 2nd trade what one should I do:
    1)Barlow-JJ 106k remaining
    2)Harwood-Hartley/Ruggles 155k left
    3)Gawn-Natanui/Bliscavs 30k remaining

    • By JJ I guess you mean Johannisen? Decent but I’d go Harwood to Hartley, Harwood will probably remain crap while there’s still a chance Barlow can go well

  • Rocky & Gresham> Zaharakis & Bennedy w/$0 left? Allows me to bench rookies but means I keep Barlow and perhaps prolong getting some “must haves”

  • Want to do Rocky -> Steven, but Harwood -> Hartley leaves me 1k short. Is it worth going Harwood -> Ruggles to get Steven? Or just stick with someone slightly cheaper like Dusty or Wines?

  • Option 1

    Rocky -> hunter
    And
    Barlow -> Merrett

    Or

    Option 2

    Rocky -> hunter/Merrett
    And
    Harwood -> Harley

    • I still think non performing cash cows are a bigger problem than Barlow. At least with cash generation you might be able to get in anothet premium.

      I’d go 2 and give Barlow another swing.

      • That’s exactly where my thoughts are now. I was getting rid of Barlow all week. Now keeping him and fixing the horrible Harwood mistake, which also means I can go Rocky -> Titch.

        Question is, Hartley or Byrne/Ruggles?? Thinking Hartley atm

        • I agree on Hartley, JS seems ok in a dons team that will want to play its youngsters.

          I’d prefer to let Byrne/Ruggles have 1 price increase.

          Saying that, AF is much more of a risk/reward comp which get give huge rewards of that first price increase if you jump on Ruggles/Byrne early AND they score well week 1.

  • Thoughts on going Harwood to M. adams or to Hartley?

    Keep in mind the $60 000 price difference

  • I don’t necessarily agree with squirrel. 2 keepers to rookies putting a million in the bank almost could be great next round to trade to fattened cows to premo

  • Hunter or Merrett for rocky

    • both very good options and have favourable games coming up. given how close they are i’d go Hunter due to price differential

  • morning all

    trade talk, with my first trade I’m going Rocky to Hunter (could upgrade but it doesn’t allow me the cash to fix other areas). Would you prioritise trading Barlow (thinking Merrett as i’ve already got Hall, but no Dusty) over fixing guys like Harwood for Adams?

    Keeping in mind if Barlow does falter again his price will be around $460k which makes it harder to then trade the following week

    Cheers

  • Greesham out and Parish easy trade
    Now to replace rock lobster

  • Was sitting pretty this week with a unique team ranked 731, now Rocky B crouch and Ramsay out, ouch! :(

  • i traded barlow for merrett but wondering if its better to just save the trade and hope he comes good. unless he has a big game barlow will probably drop in value and merret should rise. who is more likely to be a more consistent scorer as i would hope this position becomes a set and forget

  • play oliver or hewett as m8?

  • Zaha $434,400 has a negative BE in RDT…wow.

    Do people think he can continue his huge scores?

  • What do you think of my trades in my team?
    IN Tom Mitchell – OUT Tom Rockliff
    IN Darcy Parish – OUT Michael Barlow
    Switched Ben Kennedy from midfield to forward
    Remaining salary = $130,000
    Round 3 team;
    DEF: Shaw, Sheridan, Weitering, MacKenzie, Adams, Dea [Howe, Harwood]
    MID: T.Mitchell(C), Ablett, Dangerfield(VC), Hunter, Duncan, M.Crouch, Parish, Hewett [Menadue, Davis]
    RUC: S.Martin, Gawn [Cox, Currie]
    FWD: D.Martin, Hall, S.Gray, Kerridge, Wells, B.Kennedy [McGovern, McCarthy]
    ————————————-
    The reason why I have such a high salary because I plan on doing these trades in Round 4;
    IN Clay Cameron/Tom Ruggles – OUT Jacob Weitering
    IN Sam Mitchell – OUT Mitchell Duncan
    Meaning that I now have four premium midfielders and this will be my team coming into Round 4:
    DEF: Shaw, Sheridan, Howe(?), MacKenzie, Adams, Dea [Cameron, Harwood]
    MID: T.Mitchell(C), S.Mitchell, Ablett(VC), Dangerfield, Hunter, M.Crouch, Parish, Hewett [Menadue, Davis]
    RUC: S.Martin, Gawn [Cox, Currie]
    FWD: D.Martin, Hall, S.Gray, Kerridge, Wells, B.Kennedy [McGovern, McCarthy]

    • -Try not to pre-empt your trades too much for the future…since all sorts of craziness could happen this week.
