Updates:

The round 2 teamsheets about to be named. No partial lockouts and no captain loopholes this week.
We already know about a few key outs, with Mitch Robinson confirmed 1-2 week injury, Steele Sidebottom 2 week suspension, Jed Anderson with a nasty hamstring 8-12 weeks, Dane Swan out quite like for the season with that sickening leg beak that is likened to a car crash, and Luke Hodge out with a broken arm for 6 weeks.

Focus Players

Patrick Dangerfield (MID) had a Dangerfield day (excuse the pun). A surprise packet for cats was Zac Smith (RUCK) who only improve from here, and provided a good hit out ruck which cats have been lacking. Mark Blicavs (RUCK/MID) excelled in his role on the wing, I can see him losing his ruck status next year. Jonathon Patton (FWD AF $238,000 RDT $235,000) will provide a good forward option for GWS, but as a Key Position Player I see his scores fluctuating. Toby Greene (FWD/MID) was one of the bigger disappointments of round 1, and many will luxury trade him out. Even worse is for owners of Jack Steele (FWD/MID) who has been omitted this week.

Shag’s Pick

wilson
Nathan Wilson (DEF AF $283,000 BE 22 RDT $278,700) did his bit for GWS and the teams that own him with a very solid 88. At his price, this might be the last week to chase him, and many would argue he is already too expensive, however his form and role seem to indicate he could continue these sort of scores.

*Sunday extended bench players updated ~5pm Fri

Focus Players

Jordan Lewis (MID) is only in 3.85% of teams, largely due to preseason niggles and his expensive price, which at this rate he will maintain. Add to your upgrade target list. The other smokey midfielder in hawks team is Sam Mitchell (MID) who is also under played with 7.23% of AF teams. Nic Naitanui (RUCK) was phenomenal last week, and if he keeps this up, he may be the ruck to have this year, but don’t sideways a premium ruck just yet…Matt Priddis (MID) is another under owned premium mid. If he learnt how to kick and not handball he would score 150 every week.
Josh J. Kennedy (FWD) 180 was simply huge. I wouldn’t expect him as a Key Position Player to kick 8 goals every week and WCE to dominate like they did every week. Beware the infamous “Tyrone Vickery effect”.

Shag’s Pick

howe
Howe, take 2. Here is what I said last week.
“We won’t know 100% sure if he will be chosen for Fantasy, but if we are going to have a preseason hype player, it would have to be Daniel Howe (DEF AF $265,000 RDT $271,300).I think he is a very good chance to make the cut, he has done everything right, and there are a lot of rookies in that extended bench. Just be aware there is risk.” The difference is, this week he made the team!

*Sunday extended bench players updated ~5pm Fri

Focus Players

Dan Hannebery (MID) is in the side. Some might still be worried about late out potential, but he should be fine. His 76 last week was with 50% TOG. Luke Parker (MID) reminded us how good he was before he broke his leg, and Tom Mitchell (MID) is making owners very happy, and non owners (like me) very concerned. For the blues Bryce Gibbs (MID), Marc Murphy(MID) and Kade Simpson(DEF) had great DT games, and all could be sneaky luxury sideways trades if you think they can keep it up. Jacob Weitering (DEF) had a solid debut, and his JS looks all but assured. All the Swans rookies from last week are in keeping up their huge cash making potential. Beware there are a few Swans players to come back in the team in coming weeks so they all won’t remain.

Shag’s Pick

hewett
George Hewett (MID AF $158,000 BE -23 RDT $128,200) has a BE of -23, the lowest in the comp, which cannot be ignored. People are concerned about his Job Security, however if he can manage a few more games, his cash increase should make him worth it. Still dont expect him to score so high every week, remember the rookie raffle phenomena.

*NEW* Jayden Short (MID/FWD AF $125,000 RDT $121,300)

Focus Players

We already knew during the week that Deledio is still out, and Shane Edwards is out with a broken hand. Some may have had Daniel Rioli as a rookie as an out. Pies are missing Sidebottom for 2 weeks for suspension. You would hope the pies premiums will stand up a bit more with Pendlebery, Adams having below expectation scores. Brodie Grundy (RUCK) being out last week was surprising, he has previously been very DT relevant. Another DT relevant in is James Aish (DEF/MID) who was very popular before the NAB cup.
Corey Gault, Corey Ellis, Brent Macaffer, Connor Menadue rookies all survived selections. We have a new rookie in Jayden Short(MID/FWD) to see, but I’d be concerned for his JS replacing S.Edwards.

Shag’s Pick

lambo
Kane Lambert (FWD/MID AF $379,000 BE 24 RDT $369,500) Smashed out a 125 last week and was vital for the Tiges win. The question is, was it a one off. Could be a great smokey with everyone else jumping on Hall or Gray.

Focus Players

No significant ins and outs DT wise, a nice POD choice who absolutely smashed it last week is Robbie Gray (MID). So did Brad Ebert (MID) but from experience Ebert is quite erratic. I thought Brad Crouch, Matt Crouch did ok but nothing special, and Rory Laird (DEF) showed enough to remain a def keeper. Matthew Lobbe (RUCK) scored very well for those who own him, I wouldnt consider chasing him as a luxury trade at this stage in the season. Wayne Milera (FWD) was disappointing as a rookie, and would be a popular luxury trade out for another rookie.

Shag’s Pick

sgray
Sam Gray (MID/FWD AF $443,000 BE 50 RDT $446,900) smashed out a 118 in a close match. Hype justified. You have the luxury, get him in. While you are at it, enjoy Sam Gray the story.

Clayton Oliver (MID AF $245,000 BE 32 RDT $211,300)

Focus Players

Jonathan Simpkin (FWD/MID) will be a painful out for some, same is true for Craig Bird (FWD/MID). Sam Frost (RUCK) out looks ominous for those with him stuck as a ruck 3 on their benches. The dees were great last week, and many of them should score really well against this years bunnies in the Bombers. Jack Viney (MID) smashed out a 115 last week and is a popular trade in. People are hoping Max Gawn (RUCK) will bounce back with a big score. Rookie priced dees Ben Kennedy, Dean Kent, Clayton Oliver would all be justifiable rookie trade ins against the bombers.
If last week is any indication, bombers will be low scoring DT wise. Darcy Parish (MID) was a stand out, and a possible must have in RDT. Midfielders David Zaharakis (MID) Zach Merret (MID/FWD), James Kelly (MID), Mathew Stokes (MID/FWD) all scored well, but many might consider bombers players very risky as their team structure is less than certain. Some might look at the sneaky sideways rookie trade to Nick Kommer (FWD) and Michael Hartley (DEF). Angus Brayshaw(FWD/MID) is a Dees in that can go bombastic against the Bombers. But the most important question of all, Will anyone chase Heritier Lumumba?

mjones
Matt Jones (FWD AF $265,000 BE 23 RDT $269,900) is in only 0.67% of AF teams. Scoring a solid 80, he like many Dees players could go big this week against bombers. Maybe a nice rookie POD for your teams.

Daniel Wells (MID/FWD RDT $178,500)

Focus Players

Shame to see rookie Jed Anderson go out with a nasty hamstring injury at his new club, and hope the kid has a speedy recovery. As said in the beginning Mitch Robinson (FWD/MID) is out for 1 or two weeks. Although Mitch himself tweeted he would be back for the cats game in 1 week. Todd Goldstein (RUCK) showed himself to be worth his price getting a 121 in a very dominant performance. Daniel Wells (FWD/MID) so far has been worth the hype and seems set on a solid comeback. 24.9% of AF teams are hoping S.Martin doesn’t get dominated again. Daniel Rich (MID/DEF) had a tonne of midfield time and looks a great POD in defense. Can he do that back to back? Tom Rockliff (MID) managed to struggle to 109 showing his pig status remains.

Shag’s Pick

zorko
With Robbo out for a week or two, and no Beams, Dayne Zorko (FWD/MID AF $500,000 RDT $523,600) could be a sneaky POD who surely would get more midfield time.

Marcus Adams (DEF/FWD AF $172,000 BE 3 RDT $121,300)

Focus Players

The Dogs were simply amazing last week, and there are no changes to the line up. The concern would be that their huge DT scores can be kept week to week. Stringer, Macrae, Hunter all had huge games. Jack Steven (MID) continued to prove he is an Uber Premium choice, and everyone should have him in their sights as an upgrade target. The big surprise package from the saints game is Tom Hickey (RUCK/FWD) who as a mid priced ruck scored a huge 120. I have seen quote a few teams trade him in for Berger. Marcus Adams (DEF/FWD) looks already set in the doggies defence, great job security and a rookie you can safely pop on your field. Many teams will be happy Josh Dunkley (MID) and Jade Gresham (MID) made the cut.

Shag’s Pick

jj
Jason Johannisen (DEF AF $444,000 RDT $446,100) backed up his role and form from the NAB cup in a another dominant display. If your backline needs fixing he is a solid trade option.

Michael Johnson (DEF) as an in will bolster defense although I consider him to risky to be DT relevant. Kade Kolodjashnij (DEF) in will make a few sides breathe a sigh of relief. His late out was quite painful with low scores on the rookie def bench. Gary Ablett(MID) proved he is still the little master and put those concerns of niggles to rest. Aaron Hall (MID/FWD) could well be the real deal, but I’d like to see him play against another side that is not the Dons. Matt Rosa(MID/DEF) and to a lesser extent Touk Miller(MID/FWD) out will hurt a few teams. Dion Prestia (MID) had a very handy return and could be a very handy POD in your midfield.

Shag’s Pick

sandi
Aaron Sandilands (RUCK AF $485,000 RDT $508,500), not really a valid pick for DT as there are better options, but chosen as Shags pick JUST for the influence he will have coming back into the Freo Team. With Sandi back, I would expect Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe and other freo mids to all score better this week.

A windy cold day in 2015, I was bored, sick with the flu, and decided to start a blog about Teamsheets. I was immediately recruited by Warnie and somehow am now a DTTALK author. NOTE; Im Back in 2022! woooo Twitter @shagbags2023 ~REMEMBER: Friends don't let friends DT TEAMS become ghost ships.
