The Premium

Michael Barlow: A good friend of mine once recently said that Michael Barlow is the new version of Matthew Boyd. For long time fantasy players (or DTers) you’ll understand and agree with how accurate a call this is. He’s the type of player that is perfect for fantasy where he racks up the numbers but isn’t damaging enough (especially with the likes of Fyfe, Mundy and Hill in the team) to warrant some negative attention from his opposition, just like Boyd in his prime. His price tag is $627,000 and he’s worth every cent as week after week he churns out scores 95 – 120. The big improvement for Barlow this passed season was that he lifted his ceiling above 110 with 5 scores of 130 or more, previously he’d only gone that big 3 times in his career. From round 8 in 2012 he’s only gone under 80 twice, really he is just too good to pass up. If he’s not in your starting squad you’ve gotta upgrade to him.

The Midpricer

Michael Walters:  His relevancy  has dipped slightly with the inclusion of Adams (Magpies) and Kelly (Giants) as midpriced forwards but Walters is an exciting proposition. In 2012 he averaged 82 and due to an injury affected season last year had his average drop back to 70. Priced at $353,000 he’s just a touch too expensive to be seriously considered in Fantasy, but if the rumoured increased midfield time (which even Zac Dawson is probably getting too) comes to pass then he could give an average of the high 80’s a serious shake.

The Rookie

Jonathan Griffen:  Last year injury prevented the big man from playing more than 1 game. In the 3 seasons previous this ruckmen has averaged 73, 79 and 89. Priced at $142,000 he’s a chance at getting some games across the year as the big 211 (Sandilands) will be nursed though what could likely be his last season. Jono’s 3rd in line behind Sandi and Clarke but still he’s a handy enough choice for your final ruck bench spot.

The New Position

Clancee Pearce:  The Fremantle defender has had midfield status added and will set you back $280,000. Back in 2012 he played all 22 games with an average of 84 including 7 scores of 100+ and a further 5 in the 90’s. Even in 2013 he averaged 72 and 7 times he went 90+. Injury and some form worries hurt his 2014, but if he can bounce back he might be the underpriced back we need in our starting squad.

The One to Watch

Anythony Morabito: All the talent in the world and none of the luck. That statement sadly perfectly sums up Anthony’s footy career. Priced at a potential bargain of $143,000 especially when you look at his debut season stats from 2010 which included scores of 98, 96, 88 and 83. Place him on your rookie watchlist he may just be the perfect player to round out your on field midfield team.
