North Melbourne AFL Fantasy Prices 2015

Jack Ziebell (FWD/MID $)

Jack Ziebell (FWD/MID $480,000)

The Roos offer us a great new dual position option plus a midprice pick that’s got a history of delivering some handy scores.

The Premium

Todd Goldstein: Although we’ve got plenty of midprice options in the ruck to consider Todd’s spent the past 2 seasons being one of the more consistent ruck performers. He started 2014 in ugly fantasy scoring form, with just 1 score above 80 in the opening six rounds. However, In his final 11 games of 2014 he didn’t drop his scoring below 80 and posted some monster 130’s too. $496,000  might be too much with the value we’ve got, but could be a handy upgrade target.

The Midpricer

Daniel Wells: Injuries ruined Wells’ 2014 with him able to play 10 games, but he did manage to have a couple of games that showed his class and his scoring potential with 4 games of 83 or more. His previous 4 seasons he’s averaged 82 or more including a 93 in 2011. He’s priced a little higher than I’d like at $356,000 but he’s highly capable of belting out big scores early against his opening 5 teams. In his past 4 games against these teams he averages: 98 vs Adelaide, 83 Vs Brisbane, 95 Vs Port Adelaide, 84 Vs Geelong and 92 Vs Hawthorn.

The Rookie

Trent Dumont:  He has a habit of racking up the touches averaging over 20 disposals a game at VFL level. Even in his draft year he played for Norwood in the SANFL and averaged 17 touches  in his 12 games. He almost broke into the Roos side last year being selected as an emergency a handful of times. At $120,000 this second year player is developing nicely. He loves the contested ball, and the Kangas spent some of last season working on his outside components. He’s a strong overhead mark and can be used forward when needed. He’s excelling this preseason and is one I think will get a chance nice an early.

The New Position

Jack Ziebell:  For seasons Jack his been right on the verge of fantasy relevancy and after his 2013 season where he averaged 94 we thought he’d be close. But since gaining Mid/Fwd eligibility at $480,000 in 2015 Jack can now be seriously as considered relevant.  He knows how to score as evidenced by his 132 Vs Adelaide and 135 against the Suns last year. What’s been the knock on him is his quieter games are really quiet, last year he had 4 x 60’s a 51 and a 45. He’s also only played over 18 games in a season once in his 6 year career and that makes me nervous.  He could well be a top 6 forward, equally he could be just short and frustrate you.

The One to Watch

Brent Harvey: With the boom of new forward additions of Swan, Goddard, Deledio and teammate Jack Ziebell it’s easy to forget about Boomer. He’s the most expensive Roo at $565,000 and while he’ll miss games at some point this season (he is 104 after all) he still knows how to score. 15 of his 20 home & away games in 2014 had him scoring 90 or more. Last season was his highest averaging fantasy year, and with him being managed through the season and the younger Roos taking more responsibility I suggest looking to him as an upgrade at best.

  • North seem to have a lot of rookies $149k and under that have been around a few seasons – Harper, Tarrant, Warren, Garner, Tippett (only a couple but looked ok last year before injury) – surely a few of these must be either given a go or moved on? Hopefully they get games early as cash cows

  • North boys haven’t had a great run as fantasy players lately – gets shared around a bit too much for any one player to get a whole lot of it. Reckon Ziebs is underpriced and as a C-F will be valuable. Garner and maybe Dumont are good value and might make for decent ‘downgrade’ options midyear. Andy Swallow would be worth a look-in if a bit cheaper. Goldy, Boomer always decent options. Don’t count on Boomer missing games – he’s had his troubles with the MRP but is very durable. Hasn’t missed a game/soreness etc in years.

  • Any love for Nikky Dal? Not baddly priced.

  • Just noticed. Not one North Player selected as yet!!! Or Freo or WCE. Not sure why
