Bye Planner for R8 – now with Search!

Updated Bye Planner spreadsheeet with added features. Includes latest scores, fixture forecasts, and searchable player table. Must read for this week. Did I mention it has RDT prices and BEs?

Greetings Coaches,

Here is updated Bye Planner for R8.  If you are reading this I presume you know that Byes start this week.  New features are:

  • Average scores and game count updated to include R7,
  • Search tab added so you can search and sort for the best players to trade in during bye rounds.

Team Tables

Below is an updated table ranking various teams based on how many points per game they have scored or conceded on average up to round 7.

Points For Agst R7

Essendon, Hawthorn and Port have scored most points and hundreds.  Brisbane, West Coast and St.Kilda have conceded the most points and hundreds – this is a change from previous years when Gold Coast, GWS and Melbourne were the teams conceding the most points.

The next table uses this information to see who has the best draw during the bye period.  The percentage indicates whether they are playing a team likely to concede more or less points than the average team.  The column on far right forecasts the number of extra hundreds (or less hundreds).

Best draw R8 on

Western Bulldogs are playing a string of teams likely to concede the most points. However most of these come from playing Brisbane in R12, so no point rushing to trade in doggies before their bye next week.

Collingwood players should be your trade targets after their Bye this week. Essendon players should be looked at to fill Bye holes for R8 as they are playing the generous Brisbane.

Search Tab

I have a new ‘Search‘ tab with a searchable table so it is easier to find players to trade in.

For example if you want to find the best forward line players who do not have a bye this week (R8) you can easily produce a list like this (you should be able to right click on this image and open in a new tab to see it better).

Forwards R8

In the new tab there is a link at the top right of the table that explains how you manipulate the table.  But briefly –

  • Filter the position column so it only shows records that “contain” “For”  – i.e. for forward line players.
  • Filter the Round 8 column so it only shows records that “equal” “P” – i.e. player might play in R8.
  • Then sort the the table however you want – e.g. select average column and sort so players with highest average are at the top.

The columns are right are Prices and BEs for Real DreamTeam.  I don’t play RDT and I haven’t checked the numbers. But I had them so I thought I would put them in as well for RDTers.  If they are wrong let me know and I will remove them.

Will there be NixTrader spreadsheets this year?

A few coaches have asked me about the NixTrader spreadsheets from last year.  I am only playing AFLFantasy.  I’ve been waiting to see how the new Fantasy website developed as I suspected they would have teething probs and it would be a bit of a moving target – and also they are playing around with the pricing calculations.

So I have decided to give the NixTrader spreadsheets a miss this year.  Will revisit next year as I presume things will be more stable.

Also I am spending more time watching and following pro-cycling than AFL this year – including managing my various fantasy cycling squads.  The Giro d’Italia starts this Friday if anyone wants to join in the fun and chaos.

Here is link to latest Bye Planner file

Bye Planner for R8

The Bye Planner is is an MS Excel 2007 spreadsheet.  It will run on recent versions of MS Excel installed on a Windows PC.

The Bye Planner is for AFL Fantasy, but it will work for Real Dream Team as they use the same scoring.  Supercoaches might find it slightly useful to keep track of byes but all the scoring will be wrong.

If you find any issues please make comments below or tweet to me @NixTrader.

Many thanks to Matt @neilsatis for giving me his typed up AFL Fixture that this spreadsheet uses.

Edit:  This file doesn’t include any of the DPP positional changes that AFLFantasy announced after file was posted.

How to use it:

  • Downloaded the file and save it to your hard drive.  Then open the file in MS Excel 2007 or later.
  • Make changes in the Green cells to put in your own players.
  • In the Bye rounds section – use the green drop down box to adjust for players who are not available.
  • Make notes in the bottom section about your strategy for the bye rounds – who you will trade in or out and what impact that will have on your scores.
  • You can copy all the green section blocks to the updated file, so you will not have to start again in an updated version.

Technical Notes:

  • This is not an app.  There will never be an app for any platform.
  • This file will not run on iPad or any other tablets.
  • Many apps or pieces of software that claim to open Excel files do not support all the Excel formulas including lookup formulas. There are lots of lookup formulas in this file so other software probably will not fully support this file.
  • Even MS online Excel on OneDrive (cloud) may not support all the formulas.
  • There will not be a Supercoach version.
