Vent/Brag/Whatever: Dropped a few spots to 11th, first time I have a dropped in rankings this year. Made all the wrong decisions this week. Mayes on the field. Neade as emg in fwd line for Stevie J, Dwyer and Terlich on the bench. At least I got my trade of heath to Ellis right.

  • Trading out Geary and Mayes. Going to go Geary to Hanley and Mayes to Menzel, Staker, Spangher or B.Kennedy. Any thoughts?

Vent/Brag/Whatever: Jacobs goes and gets his highest score of the year… Was going to get Stevie J in this week so will wait and see, probably get in Crouch as well

    Round 8 trades:
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Suffered a narrow loss to f*cking Dr.DT thanks to having Heath Shaw, Maric & Steve Johnson all on the bench. Majak Daw in particular killed me, 35 compared to Maric vs Melb (probably a 80+). Also having Mayes on field was disastrous. Once again a great week ruined by a couple of 30-odd potatoes, and my usual luck with injuries and suspensions.

Round 8 trades: Not sure… downgrades are a bit thin.
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Traded Ellis in on a hunch after Rd 5 and since that time he’s averaged 123… and loving it! Sitting in 1,000th position overall and pretty happy with that.

Vent/Brag/Whatever: Having Stevie J pull out sucked but Dwyer stepped up big times. Also having Martin as Captain was stupid. I should have had put the C on Gazza. Would have pushed the score near 2300.

Vent/Brag/Whatever: Pretty happy with my ins this week, put some strong scores on the board, and helped me avoid some of the Mayes/Birchall carnage.

Moved up inside the top 500, I’m now nicely placed, 170 outside t100, and 240 behind top 50. I’m still 500 points off #1, but reckon with the way I’ve built my team, I’m still in with a crack if things go well for me.

Vent/Brag/Whatever: I am now ranked 840 out of 225,813 I am in the top 1,000 – thinking this week of Heath to Thurlow and then Goodes to maybe Hibberd or Ibbotson or even Ellis. Not sold on Ibottson and if I go Hibberd I then have 3 bombers in backline no good for bye rounds, but is Ellis real deal. Demons tagged Cotchin and Lids, this left Ellis and Vlustuin to run free but they are kids so can be up and down.
    Did I say I was ranked 840!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Team Name: The Dominator

    Eliminator Status: Active
    DT Studs: JPK, Pendles, Mundy
DT Duds: Hartlett, Zac Smith, Swan (C)
On the Chopping Block: Hartlett to Ellis (at least I have him in UF draft!), Stevenson to Thurlow (if selected)
Round 8 trades: Neade –> Martin, Wines –> Lonergan – happy albeit Martin did not really fire as I expected him to.
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Ended last year inside the Top 1,000 but currently Top 16,000! In addition to evident erosion of skills, I blame focus on Ultimate Footy draft (solid side), a new baby and being asleep halfway across the world when the subs are named, as well as doing the game based only on mathematics and priors rather than also from seeing players play. Enjoying the game much more with two trades a week – the game needed a shot in the arm to remain interesting. Have $1.3MM in cash so hope to make some moves once I patch up holes – don’t we all say that?! Warnie, Calvin, Roy and the writers doing a terrific job continuing to keep the site interesting and thanks too to all my fellow commentors – I read almost all posts and see some great insight and discussions.

    • 1.3 million?

Maybe you are so far behind because you’ve been downgrading, up not upgrading?

      • JM – likely you’re quite right, that is a key factor that I neglcted to note!! Thought this year I’d try a different strategy around jumping on downgrades given the absence of new teams into the AFL and the consequent likely lack of rookies. Didn’t think I’d better my <1,000 rank of 2012 in any event so thought I'd try building cash and then deploying it up to and over the byes. We'll see by Rd 22 how I go but almost certainly I won't reach last year's heights. You're having a pretty successful year with whatever strategy you are employing, good luck with it.

DT Studs: Hang on a sec …., I’ll get back to you.
DT Duds: Stevie J, Birchall, Hartlett (yes I hung on to him), Mayes, Zach Smith, but primarily myself.
On the Chopping Block: Hartlett, and Heath probably, maybe Mayes.
Round 8 trades: Wines to Priddis and Liberatore to Martin
Vent: Managed to leave the E off Dwyer after several trade/trade reversals last week so got Neades 40 odd instead. I can’t bring myself to work out how many Ls that cost me. Kept Heath instead of Terlich “job security” a couple of weeks ago. Traded out Ablett earlier in the season for Crouch, a trade which enabled me to bring Birchall (Yippee!!) in the following week, and still haven’t been able to get Ablett back in. Finally wish projected scores would stop telling me I’m going to score 2150 and win all my leagues when clearly this is not true.

  • Started with Stevenson > Thurlow as a no brainer.
    Then went Mayes > Roughy.

Vent/Brag/Whatever: What a HUGE round, so many players killed it! Help onto Fyfe and he rewarded me, traded back in Goodes and he was poor while I had Terlich on bench which cost me a 2200+ score. Was thinking all set for Neade > Franklin but surely there are others now ahead of him. Bring on round 9!

Was moving house so couldn’t log on between when Round 1 teams were named and lockout closed, so kicked off with over half a dozen non-starters and had to use up trades to fix that during rounds 2-3. Missed a lot of big Rd3 windfalls!

    DT Duds: Birchall & Mayes…
On the Chopping Block: Pittard, Wines and Mayes.
Round 8 trades: Either Pittard to Thurlow and Mayes to Franklin (but that wasn’t good enough against the Giants…), or Mayes to Staker and Wines to Deledio, Boyd, Watson, etc. Basically an underpriced premo mid.
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Pretty disappointed with how I’m traveling at this stage of the season, was looking to have a crack at the top 1K, but at this stage I’m sitting in 5,422… I set high standards for myself! Haven’t been taking too much notice of the byes, I think now is a good time to start preparing for them. Having said that, my trades over the next few weeks will be very bye dependent.

Best of luck to all in the remainder of the season!
