Roy’s great start in ESPN Footy Tips Fantasy

Despite having a shocking start to the AFL Fantasy season, I have been in ripping form in the ESPN comp. This week I am looking to make a charge within the top 10.

espnfootyMy ESPN Footy Tips team is off to a great start! I am sitting 10th overall and nicely placed to make a run for the top. My success to this point can basically be put down to team structure where I went out of my comfort zone and left Superstars Gary Ablett and Dane Swan out of my initial squad and selected under-priced mids Bryce Gibbs and Tom Rockliff to fill their shoes.

I also took full advantage of the bargain priced rookies, loading up and basically filling my backline with the mature age Port boys who have scored at a solid rate while also consistently rising in value. I spent up on Dyson Heppell and Brendon Goddard to hold down the fort back there and they have not let me down.

Dean Cox has been great in the ruck and was my captain last week which went a long way to my holding a good ranking after some of my other players didn’t live up to expectation.

Initially I made a poor selection in Matthew Pavlich but I took full advantage of the two trades per week and jumped on in form forward Angus Monfries who has taken full advantage of Ports easy draw. I started with Josh Kennedy who has been outstanding and traded in Buddy Franklin with the use of the Super Sub which saved a disaster and used the same strategy to lose a vest affected score from Patrick Karnezis with a sold score from Sam Rowe who has now become a handy cash cow.

Last week I made a bad mistake chasing a score vs the lowly Demons, bringing in Andrew Gaff for rookie sensation Oliver Wines which burnt me by 41 points according to the very handy history page.

Looking forward to this week, I want to chase the form of forward Justin Westoff who has basically been unstoppable so far this season and this week he plays the Suns who had a lot of trouble stopping Jonathan Brown. To do this I am going to grab some cash by downgrading Gaff to the basement priced Sam Kerridge which will allow me to upgrade Mark Lecras to Westoff.

My captain selection is a toss up at the moment. I like the idea of backing up with Dean Cox but the prospect of Westoff against the Suns also provides a great temptation.

Good luck this week!
