Patrick Dangerfield – Deck of Dream Team 2013

jan01_pdangerfield (1)Name: Patrick Dangerfield
Club: Adelaide
Position: Midfield
Assistant Coach 2013 Price: $525,000
Bye Round: 13
2012 Average: 101.9
2012 Games Played: 22
Predicted Average: 115

Why should I pick him?

Dangerfield has been promising to step up for years. In 2012 he did just that.

Like a postman dolled up in Milan’s finest…He delivered and delivered in style.

Coming from a mediocre average of 70.5 in 2011 (22 Games), 2012 started in a similar vein with Paddy averaging just 81 after 4 games.

Then along came round 5 and the “Showdown” versus Port, Paddy simply went BANG! 39 Touches, 8 Marks, 3 Tackles and 140 points of DT goodness. This one game made many of us sit up and take notice.

From that point on Paddy went on to bang out 11 100s out of his next 18 games at a Premo Average  of 106.5 including 4 other scores over 130. This included a run of 7 straight ton’s between rounds 17-23 where he average over 120. NIIICCCEEEE

In 2012 Paddy showed us that he can be an elite midfielder and like the cistine chapel, has a very attractive ceiling. He averaged 100 55% of the time he played in 2012…if this number can bump up to mid 70% he will be flying in the same league as Pendles, Cotchin, Boyd, Beams, Watson.

The Crows have again been gifted a very nice draw in 2013 and this will assist Paddy greatly given that he plays some weak teams early. Let’s look at his scores in 2012 v opponents that he plays prior to his Bye:

Why shouldn’t I pick him?

The round 13 Bye does not help him, given competition with Swan, Ablett, Pendles, Beams, Watson, Murphy.

Every year Paddy finishes the season better than he starts, so he may be better looked at as an upgrade.

Will he start to get some more attention this year given the year that he had and the impact that he has on games?

Will Marc Murphy take vengeance for that shoulder knock in 2012 and call on his Italian Lygon street  friends to make Paddy “swim wiv da fishes”

Deck of DT Rating.

ACE– I think that there is a hell of a lot to like about Paddy. He is a super player and with the emergence of a very nice support crew in the Crows midfield, I see him improving nicely  on last year. It would take a good size set of Nads to pick him, but with the extended midfield in 2013, the Crows nice early draw and if he can avoid Murphy’s goons, I think that he could very well step up to Uber premo this year.

  • Nice analysis Rob. I might take him over Kennedy.

  • Shhh ;)

Could certainly be a good pick for 2013. He has finished years stronger than he started but he has only played a few seasons & his stamina has improved year on year. His average should improve again this year.

He was tagged by Crowley in the finals though (Crowley tagged Scott Thompson in regular season), so teams may pay him more attention as you say, and Crows play Freo twice.

  • Great article!! Rainman, really well done! I’m looking for a bit of a POD as my M5 and he is now certainly one i’m considering.

  • Damn Rainman – you were supposed to keep this one quiet!
Let’s focus on the fact that he averaged 76 during the finals.
A toss up between him and Redden for my M5 position at the moment.
    Top article.

  • Was the first player picked for me when I thought he’d be mid/fwd dpp like last year. No question he’s a great midfielder, but since he’s now just a midfielder, he’s one of a number in that 500k price range that I’ll be looking at. Sigh. Decisions.

  • Good write up Rainman, Danger is an upgrade target for mine. Will need to see how he goes with the no.1 tag week in week out!

  • Awesome job Rainman. I’ll be picking players with less risk. With 8 Midfield spots, if Danger does as well as you suspect, he’ll be in my team by seasons end. Although, if he does get more attention, Scotty Thompson could be worth a look as a POD. Nice work.

  • I’d don’t know much about Danger’s history with tags but personally i think he would have no problem with them as he is one of the fastest and most explosive players going around and i see him shacking most tags very easily.

    • Sydney just closed the space he likes to use around the stoppage and he couldn’t get the pill.

  • OFF TOPIC. I have a cash league (based on national ranking) im running $50 entry, prizes 1st – $450 2nd – $270 3rd – $180. Asking early to ensure league filled well in advance. Email me Damien for detailed info at wish2dreamcorp@gmail.com with heading Cash league Dream Team 2013

Ran it last year and it went well :)

    Cheers
    Damien

  • Great article! Could be a great POD for someone like Fyfe or Murphy, this guy looks set to improve. Alas, cash is tight these days, and I’m stacking my backs and forwards. I’m fairly certain I’ll be upgrading to this guy in 2013.

    Also Rainman, Sistine Chapel.

  • These predicted averages are getting silly tbh. Danger had pretty much his DT-career defining breakout in 2012 by shifting his average up 30 points to pretty much his career-arc maximum and unless he puts in some really hard yards in the pre-season and takes on a greater work-load in his role for 2013, I can’t see him going up by over 2-3 points. There’s no clear reason for him to improve on his average from last season apart from the slight natural progression in his game (not his DT-game, referring to stats such as stamina, work ethic, morale etc) which would only mean a few points up or down.

If he was mid/fwd dpp then sure I’d pick him. He’s pretty much guarenteed to average 100-104 unless he really screws up. In the midfield he’s gotta compete with Redden and Murphy, both of whom I have, for spots- and they both will probably launch up around 10 points.

  • If he averages 115, I’ll fly over for the next DT Talk end of season drinks and shout the bar. Top shelf for Rainman. Won’t be a top 8 midfielder this year

  • If he was a little cheaper i’d take him but I rate Swan Pendles Cotchin and Murphy ahead of him so ill go with them

  • I fully expect Danger to be among the top 5 scorers by the end of the year. A gun who will only get better. 100% in my team.

  • Probably not in DT, very much considering him in Supercoach.

  • Article in today’s paper mentioned that the club plan to develop him more as a forward this season. Might pay to keep an eye out for that
