My Team 2013: Version 1.2

The AFL Dream Team pre-season has already started for some dedicated coaches. They have been piecing together their 2013 squad ready for the kickoff in March, yes March… it is a long way away! Anyway, who are we to deprive people of a place to discuss DT 2013? It’s time to chat it up!

For subscribers to the Assistant Coach, you will be able to access the 2013 Team Picker shortly after club lists are finalised in mid-December. For now, we can use the FanFooty.com.au Fanplanner to create a team. Just sign into FanFooty and then access the Fanplanner by clicking here and away you go! Once you have completed a team, you are then able to copy and paste it in a format that will look all nice and pretty here in the comments.

Make sure you have read Calvin and Roy’s “AFL Dream Team 2013 Radar” article to give you some hints of players worth picking up next year.

PLEASE NOTE: This version is 1.2 which has been released after the NAB Draft.

Please be constructive with comments. Feel free to discuss players, positions, etc in the comments.

  • Which two to take out of Daisy, Bennell, Franklin and Stevie J?

    • Lock in Daisy, and toss a coin between Buddy & SJ.

Daisy – Had a bit of a down year (due to injuries), yet still managed a 93 average. If you take out the sub affected 33, he averaged 97. Should be in everyone’s team.

Buddy/SJ – I’ve gone with Buddy (just for a bit of security), but Stevie J is severely underpriced from that sub affected 1. Still 50/50 myself on them.

      • Righto Daisy stays in. Buddy is also underpriced given he averaged 108 before the sub and two rusty return games, but if SJ keeps playing through the mids like the back half of this year (discounting the 1 he averaged 109 in his last 15 games) then he could be equally as appealing.

  • First team since the changes, please tell me your thoughts?

    TEAM NAME: sheeba
    DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, H. Hartlett, G. Broughton, J. Thurlow, S. Docherty (J. Pittard, D. Terlich)
    MID: D. Swan, G. Ablett jnr, S. Pendlebury, K. Jack, L. Ball, A. Embley, J. O’Meara, N. Hrovat (B. Kennedy, J. Viney)
    RUC: S. Mumford, M. Leuenberger (M. Daw, J. Witts)
    FWD: L. Franklin, S. Johnson, T. Rockliff, D. Thomas, M. LeCras, B. Macaffer (B. Staker, M. McDonough)
    CASH LEFT: $261,400

  • I’ve made this team and I’m fairly happy with it. Don’t know how much money I need to have left over, but I’ve tried to leave a bit. I’d love some thoughts on it.

    TEAM NAME: Fair Dinkum
    DEF: B. Goddard, J. Grimes, P. Hanley, N. Bock, K. Jaksch, D. Terlich (K. McIntosh, L. Osborne)
    MID: D. Swan, M. Boyd, T. Cotchin, S. Pendlebury, J. Redden, J. Lonergan, B. Crouch, O. Wines (N. Hrovat, J. Viney)
    RUC: I. Maric, M. Leuenberger (D. Currie, T. Nicholls)
    FWD: S. Johnson, T. Rockliff, D. Thomas, M. Robinson, M. LeCras, M. Morton (M. McDonough, T. Sumner)
    CASH LEFT: $261,000

    • I guess you’ve finally got an excuse for the five gun midfield! Though I still feel a combination of this and Maric leaves your backline a bit weak. Observe BDeville’s team below. By having Beams instead of Swan, Goldy over Maric and Ball rather than Redden it may cost him 30-35 points but having Gibbs over Bock and Broughton over a rook he’s probably getting another 60. That’s 25-30 more for only 62k extra. It’s getting a bit technical I know, but I feel it’s a better structure. But your score predictions may be very different to mine and if you think your structure will be the highest-scoring then go right ahead. But in general I just feel the backs are a bit weak and Gibbs is a must-have.

      • I like your team a lot this time round jake, Agree though about Gibbs, biggest lock in dt imo. You’d want to be pretty damn confident the big tiger mullet can back up his incredible 2012 for that price but follow your gut. Overall its a very strong starting side mate.

        • Thanks for commenting guys. I’ll do my best to fit Gibbs in there, but I may have to start without him. I like this team, and this sort of structure is what I’m thinking at the moment. I definitely want to start with Maric, he’ll be a set and forget ruck option and I don’t think Goldy is worth the hype. Given that this is the first year with this team structure, all we can do is experiment until we end up with a team that looks okay. Thanks for the time boys.

    CASH LEFT: $48, 900

McBean is just there for his ruck/fwd dpp. When the byes come around I can just swap him with Ryder.
This would be way over when the real prices come out but I really like the look of this team. Stanton kicks ass in the first few rounds, and sideways trades are actually very useful. I’d probably trade him to a rising Murphy.
    Thoughts on my team guys.

    • Not a bad team. I like the Ryder pick up forward and the Vlastuin pick down back. Mumford offers good value, but I would stay away from Simpson, purely because he is coached by Ross Lyon. If I had to give it a Numerical Rating i would say, 7.8

  • TEAM NAME: Leather Poisoning
    DEF: B. Goddard, J. Grimes, B. Gibbs, P. Duffield, N. Bock, J. Thurlow (J. Pittard, D. Terlich)
    MID: D. Swan, G. Ablett jnr, M. Boyd, T. Cotchin, A. Embley, N. Vlastuin, T. Menzel, J. O’Meara (J. Viney, B. Crouch)
    RUC: D. Cox, M. Leuenberger (B. Grundy, D. Currie)
    FWD: S. Johnson, T. Rockliff, N. Naitanui, A. Treloar, M. LeCras, J. Stringer (J. Daniher, M. Morton)

    3,800 cash left over

    • Good team mate but Nic Nat and Coxy in tandem is a bit crazy!
Personally I think Menzel and Vlastuin will be DPPs so chuck Menz in the fwd line (for Morton or Daniher) and Vlas in the back line (for Thurlow) and then get other mid rooks in (Wines, Hrovat).
Bock could be in for a hard start coming back from a broken leg as well so think about finding a replacement for him (Docherty) and load up somewhere else.

      • I want the two DPP’s there to assist with trades and players not playing. I already have DPP’S in mids and forwards.

        • To be honest, you don’t seem to have much cash left over, but I can’t see where it’s all gone. I’ve seen some very similar teams with $2-300K left in the bank. Perhaps drop Duffield and go to a lower end Premium ie. Hartlett, and choose one of either LeCras or Bock, other than that, I can only reccomend getting more Guns into the middle and perhaps dropping one Premo Forward.

          • Have dropped Bock to Pederson. Considering Morris as well. Better or worse?

          • I would say that’s an okay move. In my opinion Pedersen will be outscored by several rookies. I wouldn’t even go near Dale Morris. Basically a lack of finances is the only thing wrong with your team so I guess Bock > Pedo isn’t a bad move.

  • TEAM NAME: Sausage rolling
    DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, H. Hartlett, G. Broughton, S. Docherty, J. Pittard (D. Terlich, K. McIntosh)
    MID: D. Swan, T. Cotchin, S. Pendlebury, S. Thompson, J. Redden, L. Ball, A. Embley, B. Prismall (J. O’Meara, J. Viney)
    RUC: S. Jacobs, M. Leuenberger (D. Currie, J. Witts)
    FWD: T. Rockliff, D. Thomas, M. Robinson, J. Kennedy, M. LeCras, B. Macaffer (B. Staker, M. Morton)
    CASH LEFT: $62,700

    • Very nice, particularly the Forward line, love Kennedy as a POD Mid-Pricer. Redden should be locked in every team, and, I’m seriously considering Thompson myself. Great Midfield depth, and a very solid team all round. 8.9

      • interesting you say redden should be locked in every team, why is this?

        • Berger’s inclusion and Rocky’s move back into the Midfield should result in more possessions. Add that to Brisbane having the easiest Draw in the comp and Redden could easily tackle his way to a 115+ average.

          • MASSIVE call!!! easily 115+…… hmmmm

          • When i first saw your post about Redden averaging 115+, i was shocked and thought no way! but there are many things that show he could easily do it! like:

            – He is an Up n’ coming player aged at only 21!!!!!!!
            – Brisbane have the easiest draw
            – He average 110 last season
            – Berger’s inclusion and Rocky’s move back into the Midfield

So all signs are pointing to yes he could average 115

      • dont think he did average 110, could be wrong as i haven’t checked but yeah i dont think so..

    • Can’t fault your defence at all, nice 1 :)
Mids, love the even mix of guns, midpricers and rooks. love the ball and embley picks. I think theres better options than thomo though as he’s getting on now and like mitchell I feel his best dt friendly footy is behind him. Cotchins overated imo in dtland atm, Guys like murphy, mundy and even rischetelli offer great value this year, the 1st 2 i feel are particularly capable of hitting 110+ rischa 105. Cotchins overated imo in dtland atm, I prefer beams for that price
      Your rucks are great
Your forwards are awesome! All 4 of your fwd premo’s should easily better last year and offer great value. Great job!!

  • I’ve tried to come up with a team i think i could actually work with come the real prices

    DEF: B. Goddard, J. Grimes, B. Gibbs, H. Hartlett, C. Pedersen, J. Pittard (D. Terlich, B. Staker)
    MID: G. Ablett jnr, T. Cotchin, S. Pendlebury, J.Redden, L. Ball, N. Hrovat, J. O’Meara, J. Lonergan (O. Wines, J. Viney)
    RUC: M. Leuenberger, T. Goldstein (B. Grundy, M. Daw)
    FWD: L. Franklin, D. Thomas, S. Johnson, T. Rockliff, M. LeCras, B. Macaffer (T. Membrey, T. Lee)
    CASH LEFT: $353,000

DEF: Gone with my tip for top 4 defenders, plus pederson as a midpricer
MID: 4 blokes who i think will be in the top 8, plus ball, pretty standard
    RUC: Pretty standard
FWD: Same as down back picked my top 4, plus a given in LeCras

All in all nothing very unique but i think its pretty solid and something that might be affordable when the prices come out. would love some thoughts/ratings

  • I didn’t get any replies on my last post. So I’ve decide to re-post with my new team that has lost some flexibility because of the vast range of potential Mid cash cows. Here it is:

    TEAM NAME: COOKIES N’ CREAM
    DEF: B. Goddard, J. Grimes, B. Gibbs, H. Hartlett, G. Broughton/P. Duffield, J. Thurlow (S. Docherty, D. Terlich)
    MID: G. Ablett jnr, D. Beams, T. Cotchin, S. Pendlebury, L. Ball, B. Crouch, T. Mitchell, J. O’Meara (O. Wines, J. Viney)
    RUC: N. Naitanui, M. Leuenberger (B. Grundy, D. Currie)
    FWD: T. Rockliff, M. Robinson, P. Ryder, H. Bennell, M. LeCras, J. Daniher (B. Staker, T. Membrey)
    CASH LEFT: $121,900

Hopefully i’ve left enough cash for any price rises. Obviously it doesn’t really have any uniques in it but it does have a few players that aren’t to popular e.g. Mitchell, Currie, Ryder, Robinson and Membrey.
I also have 1 question for you guys:
Who would you rather have out of Broughton and Duffield?

    • Sorry i have D. Thomas instead of P. Ryder

    • Broughton probably has more potential to average higher, but Duffman is the safer pick who should at least go 85+. I’m going Duffield.

  • TEAM NAME: Adamant

    DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, P. Duffield, H. Hartlett, C. Pedersen, S. Docherty (J. Pittard, D. Terlich)

Considering Stevie J over Buddy and trying to squeeze Grimes somewhere down back…thoughts?

    • Very good side mate.I have stevie j instead of franklin and grimes instead of the duff
      at this stage.

    • is quite similar hey!

    • Yes i would definately get Grimes in, maybe instead of Harlett as he is all hype at the minute like Martin last year. You have an extrodinary team and have a large sum of money left with not many areas needing improvement, probably the best team i have seen so far with the new structure!

  • Backs; B.Goddard (Ess), B.Gibbs (Carl), G.Birchell (Haw), G.Brougthan (GCS), S.Atley (Kang), J.Thurlow (Gee)

    Midfield; G.Ablett (GCS), T.Cotchin (Rich), S.Pendleberry (Coll), O.Wines (Port), J.O’Rourke (GWS)
    J.O’Meara (GCS), J.Selwood (Gee)
    BENCH= J.Viney (Melb), T.Mitchell (Syd)

    Rucks; N.Naitanui (WCE), M.Leuenberger (Bris)

not sure on weather to go with Adkins and spencer white or somebody else as I’m not sure if they will get games or not.

I’d be pretty happy if I could get away with this as a starting team.

    • I think that this is a good team but could definately fall down with the amount of risky picks you have. I would suggest downgrading Swan or Ablett to murphy and upgrading Nights to a proven premo forward such as johnson or Franklin, offering more reliability.

  • Do you think having 6 Collingwood players in Swan, Pendlebury, Ball, Thomas, Mccaffer and Grundy in your side is too many? Its made my byes a little lop sided with 8/9/13, but with the new best 18 it might not matter. Also with the best 18 during the byes can the 18 come from any position on or off the bench?

    • In my opinion. having those particular players isn’t a bad thing, but having 13 Round 13 bye players is a bad thing; you’ll get a donut. (Assuming you keep it that layout until the MBR, if you don’t, then make sure you trade out a Round 13 bye player to either a Round 11 or 12 bye player before then.)

      • having 13 is good, this means similar to last year, you can trade out 2 after round 11 to round 11 bye players and 2 after round 12 to round 11 or 12 bye players, this will give you maximum players throughout the 3 rounds, and the more players you have, the better your best 18 are likely to be.

        • Oh ok Cheers AttotheAssassin and Birdy. I see what you mean by having 13 is good, thanks guys

This is my first try with the new rules and structure, any feedback is appreciated.

    • i think pav’s average will drop off a bit this year, si if anything he would be best as an upgrade target.

i also think pederson is a waste of money, as he wont score much if any better than some rookies.

      • Pederson’s first season had scores of 114, 97, 89, 84, 82, and 81 amongst his 14 games.

Has the potential to play the “swingman” role at Melbourne where he is almost guaranteed 22 games.

And here are his DT scores for VFL this year:
        111, 75, 96, 92, 88, 117, 117, 111, 101, 103, 138, 84, 53, 94, 68, 101 —> Average: 96.8

        – Scores better than the majority of DEF rookies
        – MUCH better JS then most DEF rookies

I would say he is worth the price.

    Backs are set & forget
Tried to have a couple a DPP links for flexibilty in MBR’s as a little overstacked in Rnd 12 & 13

    Thoughts?

    • Not a bad strategy given the lack of quality rookie Defenders. Your Midfield is rather weak, as I don’t think Fyfe will cut it against the best. I understand having Heppell in there for DPP linkage, but I think there are better options. Love Ryder in the Rucks, if he can stay injury free he should be in for a hell of a year. Your forwards are perhaps slightly weak, but other than that, nice team.

  • @suhweet @dools. Sure, moving to Melbourne will help pederson get more games, but I it doesn’t guarantee better scoring, if fact he might find it harder to score with a team that will have less of the ball. He could average 80 which is probably acceptable, but I just think there is better value in rookies, they don’t need to play 22 games to warrant selection. Anyhow he is an acceptable pick, but one I will be avoiding barring a sensational nab cup.

  • Eh…what the hell: 700th Comment.

  • Okay, the last team I posted, I got criticized, (and rightly so) for having a weak backline. Hopefully this new structure has rectified this. As such my new team now looks like this:

    TEAM NAME: Fair Dinkum
    DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, G. Birchall, P. Hanley, N. Bock, D. Terlich (K. McIntosh, L. Osborne)
    MID: G. Ablett jnr, M. Boyd, S. Pendlebury, J. Redden, A. Embley, J. Lonergan, T. Menzel, O. Wines (N. Hrovat, J. Viney)
    RUC: I. Maric, M. Leuenberger (D. Currie, J. Witts)
    FWD: S. Johnson, T. Rockliff, D. Thomas, M. Robinson, M. LeCras, M. Morton (B. Kennedy, T. Sumner)
    CASH LEFT: $275,800

    Thoughts?

    • Menzel and hvrot won’t play a lot of seniors next year . They should but there’s too much competition for position

      • To be honest, I would be fairly okay if Menzel scratches up 8-10 games for the season as M10, he is mostly there for the DPP link with Kennedy. Hrovat will probably become Kane Mitchell, depending on where he gets drafted to.

    • Solid team, plenty of caption options plus a few uniques

    • I’m liking this team. If you get through to real prices with some cash left over there’s always Bock –> Broughton, Mid rook –> Ball/Moloney etc. Personally I would swap Birchall for Grimes or maybe Hartlett and Boyd to Cotchin (more improvement in Cotchin) but that is only my preference. Very nice effort.

      • Thanks Dream on and Green Ninja. I have had Grimes locked for a while now, but I came to my senses and realised that one good season doesn’t make a Premo. I’m banking on him getting injured again, and most of the competition having to trade him out because of it. I don’t think I’ll miss out on too many points. I doubt I’ll have much left when the real prices come out, but if I do, it probably won’t be much, and I’ll just keep it in reserve anyway. Thanks boys.

  • By side which is pretty finalised. Would live your comments/critique.
Will watch pre-season for confirmation on rookies.

    DEF: B.Goddard, B.Gibbs, B.Waters, H.Hartlett, G.Broughton, C.Pedersen

    (J.Watson, T.Menzel)

Hoping to reach the 500 mark this year. The top 500, not the bottom

    • Seems good mate, love the Kruezer pick reckon he’ll explode.

      • If he’s built his tank enough to play 90% in the ruck I can’t see why he couldn’t hit 110. What do you think of the c.heath pick. Traded from Sydney and was always viewed as a promising youngster. Do you think he could slide into the side? Body’s a couple of years stronger.

    • How much cash do you have left?

  • here’s my one of my teams:

    DEF: B. Goddard, J. Grimes, B. Gibbs, G. Broughton, B. Lake, S. Docherty (J. Pittard, D. Terlich)
    MID: D. Swan, G. Ablett jnr, M. Boyd, T. Cotchin, S. Pendlebury, T. Menzel, B. Crouch, J. O’Meara (N. Hrovat, J. Viney)

    FWD: S. Johnson, T. Rockliff, D. Thomas, H. Bennell, J. Daniher, K. Jaksch (B. Macaffer, B. Staker)
    CASH LEFT: $58,800

have a plan if the team is over the salary cap.

    • Overall I like it. I’ve never been a fan of the sacrificial ruck spot though to free up cash. I will never go Ryder again but that kids got talent

      • Not bad Loobs. I’m not really a fan of the Vardy pick either, but I definitely see the merit. If Vardy can pump out some 60’s for the first few Rounds, then you upgrade him in Round 7-8 you might not lose too many points, and the extra cash has evidently been handy. Great work, though it won’t survive the real prices.

        • I’m sorry, but I don’t see the merit in that Joke_R, loobs, “pump out 60s”, yuck! That is nowhere near high enough for me to consider him. If he doesn’t have a reasonable shot at averaging 80 than I would not go near him for a starting place. You would be better off spending the money on a decent ruck and getting a more reliable rookie somewhere else.

Is Vardy even going to play anyway? I guess we’ll see.

When Broughton is confirmed B/F then swap out Johnson to free up cash and bring in Heppell in the backs.

Then downgrade Ryder if I have too.

Left some coin over and hope I’m within the salary cap. Would like to run Vardy or rook ruck as R2 instead of Goldy in there then get Moloney in mids if possible or Knights up fwd.

    Thoughts ladies and gents?

    • Now with 8 in the midfield, getting Murphy in there is a good move. My thought is getting 8 players up in the mids won’t be easy every week, Tempted to put Goddard/Rockliff et el in the mids. Must say haven’t got my head around this yet. Good to see you put a side up, looks good

      • Agree…having at least a FWD/Mid & Def/Mid is important I reckon.

Ideally you want to play Rockliff as a forward for example but if it means having players to rotate I reckon it will be worth the flexibilty

        • Ideally you would have DPP links with rookies in the midfield and leave your DP premiums in the lower scoring positions. Of course, Rockliff or similar may be in the midfield every so often due to rookie scores or premiums that are unavailable, but that is not an ideal situation.

Even early in the season, I would not like to have a DPP premium in the midfield unless I could possibly avoid it. It’ll be easier to work this out once we know the quality of DP rookies available.

          • I’ve been of this thinking all preseason now, that it’s better for your DPP links in the midfield to be rookies. But if options get skimpy (we’re pretty much relying on either Vlaustin or Temay for Def/Mid options at the moment) then this may not be very safe.

Howard and Lecras may be downgraded come round 1, depending on preseason form and JS of rookies. Extra cash will then be used to upgrade Ball to an uber-premo, hopefully leaving enough coin for any price rises!
    Thoughts/Ratings?!

    • Yeah nice. If Howard comes off then no faults really, so I’d have to say 8-8.5/10.

      • Cheers mate! Yeah Howard is bang or bust, but IMO I see no reason as to why he won’t average 80+ in 2013! With the departure of Gilbee, Hargrave and Lake he should be a shoe in for a permanent role off halfback. With his use of the ball by foot he should be one of the main go to guys to set up attacks from defence, his nab cup form will be monitored of course.

  • Sydney drafting the players they did really put doubts into my mind about a couple i was considering pre draft…eg Twoers & Membrey
They are are hard team to break into and are obviously in win now mode
Towers will be insurance for their STRONG midfield (unless they have him lined up for a flank???)
Membrey will be competing with the likes of Morton, Gary Rohan & maybe even Jed Lamb for a forward spot.

    Damn you swans

    • especially if we get tippitt, membrey will find it hard to break in, with glynn most likely to push morton out of the side.

  • Just wondering why there isn’t any love for Nat Fyfe?

He is just 21 and yet last year he has shown that he can average pretty huge for a second year player with 98. He was one of the most popular picked players heading into this year and everyone thought he would quite easily lift his average over 100 to around 105. He averaged 89 this year but if you take out his 22 where he dislocated his shoulder it lifts his average up to 97 and that’s with some scores affected from him not being 100% fit at the latter stages of this season. In his second season he scored over 90 in 81% of his games which is great for such a young player. Plus this year we get the extra 2 Midfield spots which allows us to try a few things. He has talent that is very rare for such a young age and is just an absolute ball magnet. The only thing he has against him is loosing his Dual Position. So why arn’t people picking him? At the minute i’m tossing up on which two out of Cotchin, Redden and Fyfe to pick.

IMO i see him averaging 105+ fairly easily.

    • A couple of reasons

      1. His shoulder is stuck together with sticky tape, much less likely to play 22 games than other midfield options.
      2. While he was an excellent pick as a forward it’s a big step up for him to be a top 10 mid. Can he get his average to 105-110? maybe, but it’s a big gamble compared to other safer bets

      • 2, spot on. Be in my side as DPP, he sure can play but maybe not to @110.

      • You are right about his shoulders being covered in tape like a gift that has been wrapped by a 5 year old but to be in the top 10 scoring Midfielders this year all was needed was an average 105 and Fyfe should be able to easily do that. I see him as a risk/big reward. He is priced at an average of 89 so if he averages 105 he will go up in price of over 80k

        • You forgot the most important reason.

          3. He’s coached by Ross Lyon. Never know what he’ll do next. Fyfe could be a half-back this year for all we know.

          • Ha I put the Ross Lyon thing in the comment underneath before I saw this, lol. It is a good reason for sure.

        • He definitely is a high risk/high reward player and could work out beautifully. However, if his shoulder pops out again he could get another 22 or similar this year. While any player can get injured, I think Fyfe has a higher risk of that then most others.

If you think he can get to 105 and be in your midfield all year than he could be worth a punt. My feeling is he may fall just short of that, but time will tell. Also, Ross Lyon may be the least reliable person on the planet in terms of roles, so there is that added gamble.

If he works he could be great, but I tend to avoid players that have the potential to go spectacularly wrong.

          • If you’re looking for a cheapo premium mid you’d be better off looking at his team mate David Mundy. Massive smokey to be a top 10 mid but I can’t quite squeeze him into my team at the moment.

          • I probably like Mundy better too, but that price is a little awkward. And there’s still Ross Lyon…

          • I propose a No Freo blanket rule for the comp. Closely followed by a No North and No StKilda rule.

  • It’ll be interesting to see what’s considered acceptable for an M8 and M7. I feel there will be room for at least one Ball/Embley/Moloney type if one of them can average 90+ but the M7 will require at least a 100+ average. What do you guys think?

    • Early in the season any of M5, M6, M7 and M8 could be filled by Ball/Embley or even a rookie without too much of a problem for me. However, if you are talking about post byes than it is a different matter. It depends on what the MN is, but my gut feeling is that you should be aiming to end up with 8 premium mids for the last couple of months. I would not see Ball or Embley on the ground in my completed side.

    • With 30 trades you really should be able to get the cream of the crop I think.

      • Yeah good point, those extra half dozen trades should equate to possibly another 2 premos if you allow 2-3 to downgrades and 1-2 to LTI’s. Not saying two more premos than 2012, as the MN will likely account for the extra trades, but two more premos acquired via trade.

    • Swan, Ablett, Beams, Boyd, Cotchin, Pendlebury, Watson, Murphy, Redden, Thompson, Deledio, J. Selwood, Dangerfield, J.P. Kennedy and even Stanton. Any of these guys could and probably will score @110+ points per game, pretty sure everyone’s aim will be to have any 8 of those fellas as onfield mids after the byes! IMO by years end any midfielder not averaging 105+ is not worthy of being in a serious DTers completed side.

  • Threw a quick side together with the byes in mind….not as easy as i thought it would be…

Not as much cash left as i would of liked….Rucks and Fwds a bit soft….bit of fun, pick it to bits ladies….

    • I was monitoring Stef Martin closely but I reckon his real trump card was R/F and with Naitanui, Cox, Ryder etc. getting R/F I feel all he really offers is maybe being 10-15 points underpriced. Yeah those 3 straight hundreds were promising but that was with Spencer instead of Jamar, allowing Martin more ruck time and just generally being the go-to choice as the more favoured of the two. I doubt he’ll do this with Berger around. If you want a R/F option I’d say NicNat is your man. If you’re that despearte for 10/10/10 you can always then go Waters –> Hartlett/Birchall/Suckling/Hanley/Lake. Nice backline. Like the Sylvia pick. Personally I feel having all 3 of Molo, Ball and Embley is hurting your rucks and forwards though. I’ve just got Ball and Embley and (in addition to having Murphy and Stanton over Swan and Boyd- you don’t have to do this if you want) have the same backline structure, Goldy instead of Vardy and another premo up forward with 250k in the bank. I personally don’t think 10/10/10 is even the best BS (bye structure) there is. Having say 13 R13 players, as discussed by a few blokes earlier, means definitely no doughnuts early on and trading your R13 rooks (eg O’Meara, Crouch etc) will get you through R13.

      • This will not be my starting line up…was just throwing a side together with byes in mind….my real side im not that concerned with the mbrs atm.. Martin was just thrown into the ruck as a cheaper option, didnt even consider the dpp status of him…also i would still personally take Waters over ur 5 options, at this stage he will be in my starting line up… moloney/embley/ball will most likely be starting in my mids as well….like i said was just a bit of fun to do on a Sundy nite but thanks for ur feedback brother….

Did this team in about 20 minutes. Hardly looked at the byes at all. Thoughts?

    • A commendable first effort, but at the same time it’s obvious you’ve done it in a rush. I like the Murph and Cotch combo, there’s upside in both of them and I have them as well. I see you’re backing Smith for a third year breakout. Nice and unique but I wouldn’t do it myself. I’d go Cloke –> rook, Smith to premo then look at upgrading Molo/Rischa or sight tight with a heap of cash until real prices come out.

      • Yep I can see Smith having a very good year, averaging between 75-80 I think.

Cloke’s got a good chance of getting back to his best form, now that his contract has been sorted. Rischetelli and Moloney were picked purely on value, but I probably wouldn’t have the balls to pick them for my round 1 team.

Also, not a big fan of the rookies on offer, especially in the forwards and backs. Can’t see many of them starting in round 1. There’s a lot of cash left there, but looking at the Fanplanner from last year, and how wrong it was with prices, I’m not going to commit to this team at all.

Team picker can’t come quick enough!
