Good Trade, Bad Trade: Round 18

Well I’m back on board this week after a week off to deal with this thing called ‘life’ and now I feel recharged and pumped to get back into dreaming of trades. Millions of them. Have you got any trades left? Are you saving them for 2 weeks? let’s see who has some currency to bring in to your team and who has played their last game.

Um, pick me?

Looking at the stats on assistant coach this week,  trading is starting to severely slow down, and there is no real popular players being traded in and out. Obviously a few reasons for this; 1. no one has any trades less 2. People are now less interested cos their team is firetrucked and 3. people’s teams are somewhat complete.  currently, the most traded in person this week is Tom Couch, but he doesnt feature in any of the top 10 trades of the week so it’s all a bit random. ill take a look at some popular players, rookies with something resembling job security and a couple of smokeys you may have never considered…..

Defenders

Jack Grimes ($407,800 b/e 35) ol’ Grimey has been in some good form recently, averaging  105 in the last 3 weeks. Grimes now seems to have overcome his injury proneness, playing 15 out of a possible 16 games and is taking the captain mantle on very well and leading by example. Now having more midfield time, he looks a good upgrade to any backline.

Nat Grima ($340,000 b/e 71) Yes, Nat Grima. if you are looking to trade out the DT dark lord Greg Broughton, but have limited cash, Grima could be a good option. while he doesnt score spectacular scores  (only 1 ton this year) he is SUPER consistent, with a consotency rating of about 8 ( that means he, on average, scores bewteen 71 and 86 every game).  With an average of 79, Grima would be great as a D7/8 for the final series as he will give you a guaranteed 70 points on the field. Could be the difference and better than a Bugg stinker.

Mark Baguley ($85,800, b/e -77) The only reason you’ll be bringing in this bloke is in is to make some cash to use elsewhere or opening up a DPP in the mids. Job security is always a bit shaky, but hopefully he aint gonna have to play for you. Still the best of the rookies!

Midfielders

Who am I? I am currently the 8th most expensive DT player int he competition, yet only owned by 1.42% of teams. I am ranked 12th overall in Dream Team 2012 yet never even get a consideration. That’s right, I’m Mr Unpopular, Shane Tuck ($491,900 b/e 134).  What does this bloke have to do to get a mention? Has finally got some good job security and has tonned up 10 of his last 14 games. While you may get laughed at for having him in your team, you could well be laughing last when he smashes a huge score against Port in rd 23.

Marc Murphy ($384,000 b/e 69) Murphy has finally rid that 27 out of  his system and bottomed out. Cheap as chips and huge bang for your buck here. an extra $100k for Sam Gibson anyone? Now that’s midfield depth!

Anthony Miles ($104,200 b/e -113) Once again a good cash grab here if you need some extra moolah. If Sheedy is keen on giving everyone a fair crack this year, his JS may sure up. Once again you hope that he doesnt need to play, but always useful when they have the green dot next to them on a Friday ( like my mate RM, who has patiently held him since round 12 – good work mate).

FRucks

Jon Giles – The most traded out player this week. Obviously traded out by all the loyal coaches who persisted and hoped he could find that early season form. Alas he has not and slumped to a 5 round average of 57. Would love Chopper to give him the chop.

Tom Bellchambers ($331,600, b/e 12) Never thought I would be writing this bloke’s name. Bellchambers has made the most of an injured Ryder and an aging Hille to put out 97 and 114 in his last 2 outings and become quai fantasy relevant. cheap as chips but you would wonder if he can continue this form…..

Forwards

Tom Couch ($85,800 b/e -89)*sigh* Couch is the most popular trade IN this week, involved 6% of all trades. JS may sure up if Neeld wants to put put some games into the kids so may be ok as a M8/F9. will be handy for cash generation and opening up a DPP between mids and fwd. My pride will not allow me to bring him in. I’ve already done that and traded him back out.

Matthew Wright ($398,900 b/e 38) Great little smoky that mate in my league picked up a while ago. Super unique and only in 1.3% of teams and a 3 rd average of 109. Wright has the mid DPP and the crows have their soft draw so he may just continue this purple patch. My mate should be bragging about this pick, and not Scott Selwood.

So what are you doing with trades this week? have you got any trades that you can’t to do because of pride?

Discuss it all here!

give me a follow on @jimbobholder on the twottersphere.

Also a big shout out to my fellow school alumni @jeppaDT. Doing a great job of the rookies!

  • Hey Jimbob, great article.

I’m trading out one of Dylan Shiel or Hall for Baguely or Couch.
Who should be my M8 and F9?:

    1. Shiel and Couch (no DPP link)

    2. Baguley and Hall (MID/DEF link)

    3. Couch and Hall (MID/FWD link)

Not sure if Shiel will play consistently in the Giants team when he comes back in 1-2 weeks.
The MID/FWD link is much more useful as 7/9 fwds are DPPs, however don’t know who’s JS is better out of Couch and Baguely.

  • at the moment i have 1 trade left , i have $36,800 and giles is it worth keeping giles and using the trade for a LTI or use the trade this week for bellchambers. i won’t be able to do that trade any other week as there prices will go in oppisite directions and i don’t know how good bellchambers JS will be when ryder comes back and he might be dropped instead of hille?

    • Giles’ 50-60 is better than a the zeros you may cop with no trades left. I know it is tempting but with just one trade left you have to hold that for a LTI or resting in finals – cos you know it will happen at least once!

  • Wouldnt it be nice if VS realized that everyone is screwed and slipped us a couple extra trades without us knowing to keep the game going…..’hint hint’..haha. They won’t but would be great. With the lack of trades remaining for me I won’t be trading until the finals

  • Awesome graphic

  • Yes, too few trades for the finals as it is, just three remaining.

Given how this season has gone, all three will be needed for LTIs and coaches resting top players in the final round.

  • Having Gibson on the field and 200k in the bank Murphy is so tempting!!

But what can I say? No Swan, 4 trades left, definitely making the finals… So gonna hold off I think

  • Any Bryce Gibbs owners considering straight swap for Marc Murphy this week? I only have 3 trades left but god it is tempting!

    • I am a Kade Simpson owner and was contemplating doing the same thing. I personally am going Gibson -> Murphy because I have extra cash. That way when Simpson returns, he can be my emergency.

  • Kyal Horsley (M8) out Anthony Miles in giving me $179,000

  • Thanks JB

Looking to upgrade rucks this week (from Giles) leaving me with several trades for finals.

Milera – Couch for DPP (allows Treloar into fwds reserves and Gibson covering mids).

Caught between who to add on the ruck side as little to no back up in rucks. Currently have Hale.

Maric – some injury issues so will avoid

Cox – with injuries issues, Cox is spending more time in fwd line where returns are 80-95 and has couple of tough last couple of games, high BE. Had excellent JS and unlikely to be rested.

Jacobs – looks reasonable value – will he be rested.

Roughhead – priced ok, will he be rested. Impact if Bailey comes back.

McEvoy – looks well priced and seems to be the pick.

    Any thoughts appreciated

  • Great article matey was wonderin, havent got too much cash left or trades. what your thoughts were on upgrading giles to nic nat or goldstien nic nat is a couple of K cheaper and has a higher ceiling niether will get a rest before the end of the year maybe slightly unique too.

    any thoughts appreciated

  • I am so keen to get Broughton out, but don’t want to double trade, thanks for the great idea to get Nathan Grima in, low ceiling perhaps, but at least i won’t have a freaking stroke every weekend wondering what the hell is going to happen to my backline!!

  • Couch in for me this week i think and one final backline upgrade. Team currently looks like this.

Def: Deledio, Goddard, Birhcall, H Shaw, Lake, Carrazzo, Broughton, S Shaw, Darley

Mid: Ablett, Boyd, Pendlebury, Thompson, Selwood, Barlow, Treloar, Gibson

    Ruck: Goldstein, Roughead, Stephenson, Redden

Fwd: Franklin, Beams, Sidebottom, Robinson, Dangerfield, Martin, Zorko, Porplyzia, Hall

Currently have 7 trades and 20k.

Thoughts at this stage would be to trade Hall to Couch and upgrade Broughton. I can trade Broughton to Scotland and would be left with 5 trades and 80k.

My quesiton to everyone is Scotland the best upgrade and worth the extra he would cost instead of a Grimes/Heppel/Suckling etc??

    Appreciate everyones thoughts.

    • Couch is a moral to be dropped this week. Will make everyone rethink their trades unless DPP is of significance. Hold off until tonight and let the Melb selectors make the decision for you. If he’s named then do it. Waters is also a great option, might be able to go Darley to Waters instead and keep Broughton as D8. Who knows what GWS are thinking with Darley?

  • Matty Wright Lock and LOAD!

  • Great article.

I have Cox, Giles, Redden and Campbell as my rucks and only 1 trade left. I have fairly good bench cover all over the field.

With my cash left I can afford to straight swap Giles to any ruck except Maric, Roughead and Jacobs.

I can afford Ryder but he won’t be back for another couple weeks and the only way I’ll be able to get Jacobs (my preferred choice) is for him to have a shocker and for Giles to smash it.

I’m half considering McEvoy but he’s burnt me in years past.

    Thanks for your help fellas.

    • i would hold crispy. need to give a bit more weighting to players playing rather than playing AND performing. any points are better than a donut after that LTI comes a long in two weeks

  • Do any Freo watchers have an update on Hayden Crozier?

He was out at the start of month with suspected glandular fever. This is normally pretty bad news because you would expect him to stop most training and lose fitness even if he came back this year.

Does anyone know if diagnosis was confirmed or if he has been doing any training?

If he is confirmed out for season then I could swap him for Couch (if he is named again) as probably the last cheap For/Mid option to come up this year.

  • So I have Giles but with only 2 trades left I’m stuck with him.
I think he may be eaten alive by Jolly this week, so am considering starting Jenkins in front of him.
    He scored 99 last week.
    Thoughts?

  • Cheers Jimmy!

  • HAHA Jimbob, I picked up Grima in the last week of the byes with a 3 way trade & booted hargrave!! Has been a lot more reliable than that spud Hargrave but watching his score during the game is like pulling fingernails!! Always has a blinder of a 1st quarter then goes missing for the next 3 but always seems to fumble his way to 70-80!! ARRGGHH!! Picked him up as a unique pick & as my 6th defender he is holding his spot.

I still have Giles as my 2nd ruck like most & hoping he goes well considering he is rucking against Jolly who seems to give away more free kicks than he gets in possessions, a few cheap kicks on offer for Giles I reckon!!! CMON Big fella!!!!!

  • Best Trade?

    1. Marley Williams to Couch, Zorko to Swan (Retaining Mid/Fwd link) Gibson/Couch Mid Bench,
    Treloar and Hall forward Bench.

    2. A. Hall to Couch, D.Martin to Swan (Loses Mid/fwd link) Gibson Williams Mid Bench, Treloar and Couch Fwd Bench

  • Best Trade?

    1. Marley Williams to Couch, Zorko to Swan (Retaining Mid/Fwd link) Gibson/Couch Mid Bench,
    Treloar and Hall forward Bench.

    2. A. Hall to Couch, D.Martin to Swan (Loses Mid/fwd link) Gibson Williams Mid Bench, Treloar and Couch Fwd Bench

    • Oi Dickhead,

There is no need to post the same question in 3 different forums.

By the way, your trades suck.

      • Thanks mate, what are you ranked?

        • ranking has nothing to do with posting in multiple articles.

          • haha thats what i thought!

          • Actually Brad, that was aimed at you. What has ranking (like you asked) got to do with posting the same question in multiple articles? If you ate tanked well, you’re probably making your own decisions.

          • Mate, he just wants some opinions on his trades, Garnzy has no right to be calling people ‘dickheads’ and telling them that ‘their trades suck’ if he has no intention of telling him which trades he should do, I find that extremely disappointing and

Go with what you feel like Brad mate, just think it through a bit more. Personally I wouldn’t trade Zorko mate, he’s a proven gun, so I would go option 2.

            Good luck this week lads!

  • Hey guys,

This is my first post but I need advice regarding my final two trades.

    Team as it stands is:

B: Deledio, Scotland, Birchall, Goddard, Waters, Carazzo, Clarke (Darley, Talia)
M: Boyd, Swan, Ablett, Selwood, Pendelbury, Priddis (Miles, Couch)
    R: Cox, Griffin (Redden, Stephenson)
F: Beams, Sidebottom, Chapman, Robinson, Franklin, Martin, Zorko (Cameron, A. Hall)

    Cash: $55,400

Should I trade Clarke & A. Hall for H. Shaw and Gumbleton or J. Grimes and Murdoch?

Shaw is unpredictable, whereas Grimes seems to be killing it recently, but Gumbleton will play each week and help my forward cover (I had two 0’s there last week) and Murdoch might not get a game or be sub.

    Help?

    • Sorry, not Murdoch, Josh Walker from Geelong.

    • First off, nice team mate!

I’d probably play Darley on the ground (providing he gets a gig) over Clarke and save the trades, Clarke seems to be your only real weak link but he’ll make good bench cover.

You dont want to be going in to Finals with no trades, especially with how injuries have been going this year.

      Good luck!

  • Great article TeeTee – trying to figuring out how to best use my last 2 trades…

    I’m still holding onto McIntosh… should I:

    a)
    Hargrave -> Scotland

Elliot -> Beams a week into the finals.

    b)

    McIntosh -> Goldy

Hargrave -> Scotland (1 week into finals)

(means I have Christensen on the field instead of bench cover)

    c)
    McIntosh -> Goldy

Elliot -> Beams (1 week into finals)

Any help would be much appreciated!!

  • Help please.
I have 3 trades remaining and 40k remaining. Only real week link is hayes at mid # 6.

Should I trade Hayes to Murphy, or keep 3 trades for the finals??

If I want to get rid of Hayes it has to be this week as I have no really cash for an upgrade to a super premo.

  • Zorko to Beams… Good trade????

  • I have $149000 in the bank. I cant decide whether to upgrade Dylan Shiel to Pendlebury, Murphy or even Tuck or Cotchin ?. I hae six trades left. Murphy will give me spare 100K to use in finals

    • Definitely Murphy mate, he’s 100K cheaper (like you said) and is very reliable (when not injured).

  • I’m not going to brag this time JimBob.
Nothing to really brag about, i’m always Wright………

  • Chappy, chappy…chappy!
I traded him in Chappy 2 weeks ago for top dollar. He is bleeding cash and recent form awful in winning sides – I hate to do it but sideways for Pendles is possible this week. Will the big man regain vintage form and keep JS or should I get the new model in?

  • i was thinking about going gibson to murphy, but i just dont think murp will average much more than gibson in the next 3 weeks or so with judd out.

  • it might be worth waiting a few weeks and getting fyfe in for the finals, will see how he goes
