Dream Team Extra: Round 13

How are you faring at around the halfway point of Dream Team 2012? As opposed to my squad, I hope your team is firing and you’re either almost complete or sitting pretty with plenty of trades up your sleeve for a big assault on the DT Finals. After a dreary fortnight we’re at our final multi-bye round for season 2012. It’s been a bit of a struggle, but after this weekend we return to the relative sanity of 9-match weekends. Minimum games don’t equate to minimum news, so let’s get into some of the goings-on this week!

Pendle-Broken

So much for just a two-week layoff, but hey, we’re getting used to being mucked about by injury news and reports by now so this snip regarding Pendlebury’s extended recovery probably didn’t come as a surprise to most. While not in full training yet, the twatter is that he has been running this week, so hopefully no further LTI worries here. It’s unfortunate as those of us who were relying on him to return this week might wear an extra donut. However, unless you’re in the top 100 or so of the rankings, swapping Pendles out this week would be a wasted trade.

Goody Goody!

Great news was that Mr Super-Durable (downgraded from Mr Ultra-Durable) is likely to resume this week for the Swans after his longest stint on the sidelines. Goodes has been in full training this week and, according to that report, is going gangbusters in readiness for this round. It’s a double-bonus really as we’ll get to see him work his magic again while providing us with a great upgrade option. His late-season form is legendary in the DT world, so keep an eye on him for one or two games before pulling the trigger and then ride the Goodes train home!

Are You My Mummy?

He’s been a regular feature of the #DTExtra and big Mummy gets another mention this week. We bemoaned his start-of-season troubles when he battled back issues and now it’s time for the flipside. How about this mid-week tweet from the Swannies?

Mummy’s come out with some fighting words in the lead in to the Swans/Cats game this weekend and I’ll  be eager to see how the big fella goes. A 39 anbd a 68 since returning from injury aren’t much to shout about, but as he keeps building match fitness and form, his price might dip to as low as $350-360k after R14, making him ripe for the picking for the run home. If you’re strapped for cash and looking for a sneaky upgrade for Giles, keep an eye on Mummy.

Injury Update

Who’s on the radar for a game this weekend? Heath Shaw is the most notable name, though I think he’s been mentioned as a possible return for a few weeks now! Hampson is listed as a test, which is an added worry for Kreuzer coaches on top of his mixed form. There a a boatload more ‘outs’ than ‘ins’, so that’s about it for a positive injury update.

Pick Me! Pick Me!

Another tough round looms and, to be completely honest, if you’re actually having trouble deciding between which rooks to play this bye round, you’re in a 0.5-percentile of coaches who actually have depth this week! All I can say at this point is that with the addition of Bartram and Green to Melbourne’s injury list, surely Tommy Couch is due?!?

Anyways, that’s the rub for this week. Trading? Heard any juicy news bits, gossip or rumours? Got a rant or a rave? Stick it in the comments and let’s get some healthy chatter going. See ya next Thursday for another bout of media trawling and good luck this weekend!

Anyone travelling interstate to catch a game this weekend should visit Quickbeds for cheap last minute deals on hotels!

  • Heath Shaw and Adam Kennedy better be inclusions this week.

  • Does anybody have any decent downgrades options for Ellis? Already have shaw, who i think will play majority of the season to come. Need to finish my backline so I can upgrade hargrave to Johnson, but need the $$. Or a downgrade option for pfeiffer, have adams as other bench warmer.
    Cheers

    • You will only pocket like $100k for ellis – waste of a trade really.. maybe delaney for nth melb.. i dont know why the 2 brothers were pulled last week but he was doin ok. i think ellis b/e is like 18 so u might want to wait til after round 14/15 he seems to be gettin full games

    • Wouldn’t trade Ellis, unless your ranked really highly in overall, try and set yourself up for the finals. I know he has the bye this week and could cost you a donut, but i would wear it.

Ellis has a B/E of 18 and in rounds 14 and 15 should rise by a total of roughly 25-30k. On the other hand carazzos price will fall by 30k by round 15 and ellis makes the perfect upgrade option to Carazzo.

      • Yeah I know what ya mean, I’m sitting 271 overall ATM, I really want to do another upgrade in the backline, but I have only $15000 in the bank after my swan trade this week and 7 trades left. But I don’t want to loose my dpp in the mids. M Williams isn’t worth trading for money, and zorko is definitely a keeper as a emergency through the mid and fwds. So Ellis is my only player worth trading or redden for a rookie ruck.

Def: lids, Goddard, waters, broughton, lake, enright, hargrave ( Ellis, shaw)

        • Well you’re only copping one donut in the back line where so many others are looking at 2-3. its up to you, but i would almost leave ellis for now. theres no one to downgrade to really, and at least he’s making cash. Your backline is pretty much set. In a few weeks you be able to upgrade enright or hargrave to carrazzo depending on how things go if you really wanted to, but id be comfortable with what you have at the moment at this stage in the year.

your 271 overall though which is brilliant. I’m sure you know what your doing and will make the right decision in the end :) haha

  • My team is starting to look half decent – not sure how the DT finals works but?? Can someone fill me in?? My team looks like

DEF: Lids, Lake, Burgoyne, Heppell, GODdard, Hunt, Ellis (Shaw, Baguley)

MID: Ablett, Swan, Jelwood, Mitchell, Thompson, Sidebottom (Shiel, Williams)

FWD: Beams, Dangerfield, Stevie J, Franklin, Robinson, Zorko, Dalhaus (Smedts, Dickson)

I think my team is really top heavy – this is my first season so i butchered a lot of trades; i have $47k and 4 trades to go -_- but i was thinking…

Downgrade Shiel to Gibson and scoop like 250k then upgrade Hunt/Ellis to Carrots/Scotland
Then maybe another upgrade in defence and a downgrade in fwd line as i wont know who to play out of dickson, zorko, dalhaus and prob punch myself in the face to many times..

    Any ideas pro’s??

    • if you only have 4 trades, i would wait until carrazo falls in price and by about round 15 snap him up. Leave your team and then right before or during finals maybe look at bringing in a 7th premium defender. I think for now Shaw is a decent D7 just leave him there. you will need trades for the finals

      • Thanks heaps! Yea at the start i was just side way trading after 1 bad game and really playing with emotion haha..Yea i was going to get him in round 15 and shiel should be pretty fat by then to free up the dosh :)

        • yeah that plan sounds good.

I think your going to have to stick it out and go into finals with that exact team, with maybe one def upgrade. can’t afford anymore trades from here on in

    • Next year you will need to hang off trades…

Hold onto what you have got mate, if you want to win a league you need 4min. I like 6-8 at the start of the finals (in a perfect world).

  • Good Stuff TeeTee
Disapointing with Pendles. Lets hope he’s back next week…

  • These are my Mids and forwards DDP players Stanton Hayes Judd Boyd Mitchell Chapman Dangerfield Kennedy[swans] Hayes Sidebottom Harvey Robinson Zorko Pfeiffer Sexton… I went a little silly on the mids But ill have a good bench.. Going to get rid of one as i want Goodes Which one i ask

  • Half way ay?

Can’t wait to see how trades hold out.

Players like Patton and Zorko worry me, and a lot of others like say..Grimes, Shaw ect.

Everyone worries about guys like Stevie J and Paul Chappy getting “rested” which is a crystal ball matter – you cant worry about stuff like that – however…injury prone players are another matter.

Zorko is a gun – NO DOUBT – a pin up boy for Brisbane with a cool name AND he can play.

But why did he start the season so late…? INJURY

Patton – the same – INJURY

I’d be worried about the likelyhood of these guys beinggoing down again.

My new INJURY rule is gonna be not to get in a player that has already been injured THIS season – im looking at you Adam Goodes and Heath Shaw.

In fact i didnt have Heater this year for the first time ever and its been a blessing !

    • As bad as this sounds, injury is what makes dream team most of the time. How do you think fallen premiums, such as goodes, carrazzo and stuff come about? If it wasn’t for that we would be trading in fully priced premiums all the time and it would only cost extra trades and so much more cash.

Obviously there is some risk involved with trading in previously injured players and i know what your saying, but DT is all about risks. Sometimes they pay off and other times they bite you in the ass.

      • Yeh, i’m not saying don’t start the season with injured players (Lake, Grimes, Waters ect) at a bargain price, but be wary of guys that tend to be made of glass (Robbie Gray, Hamish Hartlett, Heath Shaw) – and thats why i mentioned Zorko – im betting 2-1 that he goes down with an injury again this year – i hope not, but its likely.

You can get premiums cheaper after they have a bad game or two, not just through injury.

But look at Sandilands – he’s on my never again list – too precious to Freo, understandably…. but not worth the heartache for DT week in week out.

        • Also true, but i wouldn’t say players like heath shaw are made out of glass. he’s never be renowned for always being injured, i think this is just a bad year for him. Same goes for Brian Lake and hargrave who had those stinker years with injury. And plus those real super premium players rarely have bad games unless they do cop a knock e.g. pendles and selwood.

yeah well if your picking players like Hamish Hartlett in your DT then you should probably consider a new career ;)

And yeh players like sandilands i steer clear of, its just the scoring potential is too hard for some to ignore, and some years it costs you and others you reap the rewards. I bet people who have Jack Grimes are laughing at the moment. hope he stays injury free for their sake

  • If you have your bench loaded with average to good players then a injury doesn’t worry you as much.. That’s how i look at it.. What has done my head in this year is the players coming back so quick.. Not all but a few. Written off for weeks if not months some are back in no time…

  • Hoping that smedts gets a gig now that stringer is out, and it wouldn’t hurt if spurr gets a crack due to hill, dawson being out, but looks like that’s a pipe dream.

  • DEF: Deledio, Goddard, Waters, Carrazzo, Broughton, Hargrave, Nicholson (Ellis, Spurr)

MID: Ablett, Stanton, Pendles, Thompson, Mitchell, Horse (T. Adams, Gibson)

RUC: Maric, Giles (Big O, Redden)

FWD: Franklin, Beams, Chappy, Dangerfield, Robinson, Martin Zorko (Kennedy, Smedts)

7 Trades left, Question is should I make a M6 upgrade now or ride it out till finals then bring in Swanny? Going for league win, currently sitting 5th.

  • I have 11 trades left with $279,800 in the bank.

DEF: Delidio, Goddard, Waters, Birchell, Hargrave, Darley, Sam Shaw, Townsend, Spurr

MID: Swan, Ablett, Stanton, Boyd, Thompson, Jmac, Horse, Sexton

    RUCK: Cox, Giles, Redden, Stephenson

FWD: Franklin, Sidebottom, Robinson, Dangerfield, Martin, Cloke, Zorko, Pfierrier, Black

    Any ideas..? thoughts overall..?

Trades 1: Horse out gibson in ( horse will lose more cash which i dont want, so i will have gibson and sexton sitting on my reserves)

    AND THAN

Trade 2: Jmac out beams in

    thoughts on upgrades etc…?

  • Duffield better play i dont care if he spuds up i just want something.

  • want a cheap rookie ruckman to downgrade stephenson…. Any thoughts??

  • need help guys.

    i have 6 trades… $248,700 in bank…

    team is :
DEF: Deledio, god, adcock, lake, heppell, birchall, clarke (darley, spurr)
Mids: Stanton, boyd, rocky, gazza, hayes, priddis (oldMac, Williams)
Ruck: Goldy, Giles (Big O, Redden)
FWDS: Buddy, sidey, robbo, stevie j, martin, zaha, zorko (dickson, sexton)

with only 6 trades i will be keeping zaha…

    i was thinking:
    Clarke – carrots – 2 weeks time?
    clarke – waters/grimes – this week?
giles – ryder – this week?
dickson – ROK/Pav/Danger – this week or next?

what are your thoughts on team and trades i should do?

    • I would go Hayes to swan then Clarke to carrazo in 2 weeks time, fwd looks pretty solid atm

    • hayes is a gun though… he probably will improve 2nd half…

      • I have Hayes. He is a gun, but he’s an ageing gun.

He has said himself that he sees himself as a role player these days. He started so well, but he’s almost back to his starting quote and I’m expecting to get 80s, 90s and low tons from him till I upgrade him. Super consistent, but not worth one of your precious 6 mid spots late in the season and in finals.

    • Im loving it, people with 6 trades, seen even 4 or lower, considering more trades!

  • I have two options
    1) hall to beams and pendles to swan
    2) smith to beams and pendles to thompson and a donut
    who would you go?

    • out of those two options number 1 definitely, in saying that I don’t recommend getting rid of pendles unless it’s a must for you

  • shiel to swan
    hall to chapman
    Good trades?

  • thomas couch please be selected this week and every other week thats left of the season :D

  • DEF: Delidio, Goddard, Waters, Birchell, Hargrave, Darley, Sam Shaw, Townsend, Spurr

MID: Swan, Ablett, Stanton, Boyd, Thompson, Jmac, Horse, Sexton

    RUCK: Cox, Giles, Redden, Stephenson

FWD: Franklin, Sidebottom, Robinson, Dangerfield, Martin, Cloke, Zorko, Pfierrier, Black

I have 11 trades left with $279,800 in the bank.
    thoughts overall..? Any ideas..?

  • Would it be stupid to make 3 trades this week, if i do it will leave me with 9 trades left for the season.
    Hayes OUT Thompson IN
    Horsely OUT Gibson IN
    Ballantyne OUT Beams IN

Don’t hate becuase I had Ballantyne lol, i’m a Freo supporter so thought i would keep him but after another suspension, no thanks. What do you think, good move or bad move?

  • Def: Deledio, Goddard, Birchall, Waters, Adcock, Duffield, Hargrave, Clarke, S Shaw

Mid: Swan, Ablett, Boyd, Thompson, Pendlebury, Ebert, Williams, Gibson

    Ruc: Cox, Kreuzer, Stephensen, Redden

Fwd: Sidebottom, Franklin, Chapman, Dangerfield, Martin, Treloar, Zorko, Hall, Sexton

Got $319,700 in the bank and only 6 trades.

Thinking, Hall – Beams as a definite trade, and then possibly Treloar to Cloke. or should I look to save that trade and hope Treloar can rediscover his form from round 10?

Have an eye on a Duffield/Hargrave/Clarke trade lined up for round 15 when Carazzo bottoms out, with whoever is performing worst getting the axe.

Won’t leave me with many trades, but I’m away in Europe from round 15 anyways so won’t have much chance to check until finals.

    Thoughts?

    • Love the hall – beams trade, also maybe upgrade kreuzer – maric if funds are okay.

      • Yeh did the double downgrade last week to be able to afford the Hall – Beams trade this week. Happy to stick with Kreuzer at the moment, having him has meant I’ve missed most of the injury carnage in the rucks so far.

  • Here’s what my team will look like next week, apart from injury/suspension.

Def: Goddard, Deledio, H.Shaw, Waters, Suckling, Clarke, Hargrave (S.Shaw, Darley)

Mids: Swan, Ablett, Boyd, Thompson, J.Selwood, Barlow (Jmac, Gibson)

    Rucks: Cox, Maric (Giles, Redden)

Fwd: Franklin, Beams, Sidebottom, Martin, Robinson, Zorko, Dickson (Sexton, Couch)

    Thoughts are appreciated.

  • Made some very nice trades this week:-

Out: OldMac ——> In: Jobe Watson
Out: Treloar ——> In: D Beams
    Out: Smith ——> In: Sideass

    Next Week:

    Out: Horsley ——> In: Carrazzo

Def: Delids, Birchall, Lake, Hargrave, Heppell, Dempsey, Golby. Bench: Darley & Shaw
Mid: Boyd, Watson, Carrazzo, Mitchell, Robinson, McCarthy Bench: Greene & Sexton
Ruck: Maric & Griffin Bench: Giles & Redden
Fwds: Franklin, Sideass, Beams, ROK, Martin, Cloke, Porp Bench: Christensen & Zorko

Plenty of scope to move players around and cover injuries plus 6 trades & $27,200 cash.

Possible trades leading into finals –
Darley/Shaw for any rookie trade in Scotland
Greene/Sexton for any rookie trade in Swan or GAJ
Christensen/Porp for any rookie trade in Chappy or Stevie J

Very happy with end result :)))

  • duffield not named. ffs

  • couch u idiot

  • Just tried out Pendles to Thommo and am 5k short of going Treloar to Swan. dat hurt

    • Ouch. I was trying to go Barlow – Thompson but fell 1.2k short :(

  • joel selwood or thompson, only because thompson might be rested at the end of year closer to finals?
