Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 13

I’m off the roof and ready to roll for this final bye round. With Ablett sitting out this week, many have rocked up to find out who they should be putting their faith in this week. ME! Get in there and check out my efforts for this week.

Off the Roof

After a very rough last 2 weeks, I’m very pleased to announce that I am back! I am in no danger of heading to the roof this week thanks to the effort of my top 5 who finally did what they are supposed to do. Boyd was my #1 pick and scored 133, but was out shone by Gaz (148) who I also said would be very good after averaging 126 in his last 6 against the Roos – and he certainly was! “I pick Ablett every week”… good luck this week then my friend. Mitchell, Delids and Buddy rounded out the group and certainly did their part in maintaining my health and personal safety this week. Thanks lads and watch me fire out some big ones again for round 13.

Smokey Kangaroos

After a smokey? Then look no further than these two. Andrew Swallow scored 138 and 129 on the Crows in his last 2 games against them and is tipped to do good things again this week at Etihad Stadium. But all the DT rave has been for Goldstein who dominated Jacobs last year for 144pts with 48 hit outs. He has only played Adelaide twice for an average of 132 and averages 95 at Etihad in his last 3 there with a nice 140 in his most recent. Now, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves here. Not my cup of tea and not something I’d ever do… but if you like a smokey, then these guys are the boys I have for you this week.

Tagger Alert

Argggg, dam taggers. Who will go to who?

Andrew, Raines raines go away will most likely go to Griffen. He went to Cooney in their most recent game (2011) but Cooney isn’t any good anymore. That day, Griffen killed them and had 33d and 3 goals and has been in smashing form and is a very dangerous player for the Dogs. This means (if I’m right), Matthew Boyd will be free. He had a huge 88pts at the half last week until Kane Cornes was moved onto him. Boyd had 120pts on the Lions last year and carries a lowest score of just 106 in his last 5 this year. He has averaged 135 at Etihad in his last 3 and should be on your radarrrrrr this week. Especially after 5 Hawks cracked 100+ on Brissie last week.

Creepy Crowley is a very interesting tagger this week  in his match against Jobe Watson and Stanton. Jobe Watson has a rotten record against the Dockers with just 1×100+ score on them in his career of 8 games against them. His form has been great with 131 and 128 coming in his last 2 games but Crowley usually towels him up like he did last year when Jobe managed just 22d for 70pts. But Brent Stanton’s record is also poor. He didn’t play them last year, but only has 1×100+ score on them in his last 5. But this is where it gets interesting. Freo have a new coach and last year Ross Lyon (then coaching St Kilda) used his #1 tagger in Clinton Jones to tag Stanton (76pts) allowing Jobe to run-a-muck for his 134pts. So… what will Lyon do? Rate Stanton highly and use Crowley on him like he did with Jones last year, or run with the proven option of Crowley on Jobe like Fremantle have in the past? My prediction: Crowley will tag Watson and Stants will run free. Jobe is on fire, Brownlow favourite and the more dangerous/in form player at the moment. Tough one though.

 “3 Pies please…”

Ok fatty – here they are!

Dayne Beams – he had 86 and 91 on the Eagles last year and is averaging 119 at the MCG in his last 3 games with that huge 155 there in his last game this year. In form and will be good once again.
Steele Sidebottom – scored 91 on the Eagles last year in his last match against them which happened to be the Qualifying Final (QF) of 2011. He scored 95 on them also on them in same year and should be good after coming off the break and that huge 150pts in his last game.
Dane Swan – has a great record against West Coast after he had 42d (144) against them in the QF last year. Prior to that he has scored 89, 161, 158, 133 and 158. Impressive hey! Swan has played at the MCG 6 times this year to average a nice 126pts there over that time. In the past, Scott Selwood has gone to Pendles (who won’t play) but has never stopped him as Pendles has scored 124+ on these guys in his last 4. Selwood may go to Swan (more likely Daisy), but I don’t see this effecting him at all if he does. After hurting his hammy, Swan returned for a massive 142 and will be in his element on Saturday afternoon.
