Dream Team Extra: Round 10

Who’s hit the headlines this week? What’s the fallout from the weekend? Let’s take a look at a few newsworthy snips, and maybe a bit of juicy goss, that may have an effect on your Dream Team this weekend!

I can’t say I particularly enjoyed last weekend’s round of Dream Team, with my squad barely making it to the 2000 mark and dropping down to 4937 in the rankings. Still, it was great to see some of you guys post some big scores in the 2200s and 2300s – top job! It’s been a quiet week in the media, so there’s nothing huge to report, but hey, let’s see what we can find!

The Birds

Pies v Kids... Pies win!

If you’re an old school Hitchcock fan, you’ll undoubtedly have read or watched his classic, The Birds. Without giving away too much of the story, all the birds start running amok, ravaging people and causing absolute chaos. Oh, wait a minute, I’ve pretty much given away the guts of the story… So anyway, the Pies take on the winless Suns this week and it looks to be the modern day instalment of Hitchcock’s tale. They should smash the Suns and it’s not unreasonable to expect well-above-average scores from the likes of Pendles, Sidey, Beams, Shaw and Cloke.

Midfield Mayhem

It was a very ordinary week for a few fantasy midfields last weekend, with premiums like Stanton, Pendles, Thommo, Watson, Hayes, Mitchell and Rockliff all failing to hit the ton. If, like me, you have a one or more of these guys in your MIDs, don’t despair – they’re guns and they’ll be back to their usual hi-po scoring. If you don’t have these guys, it’ll pay to track them in @Aki_DT‘s Stock Market analysis to potentially pick up a bargain or two over the bye rounds.

Greater Western Stoppers

This souv might bite back...

Indulge me for another little bitty on GWS – yes, I know this makes it two weeks in a row that I’ve mentioned them, but this is kinda relevant. We all know that Sheedy is a shrewd coach and looking over the numbers in their past games, it looks like his plan of containing the oppo’s best is working fairly well. In recent weeks, they’ve held Watson (91), Stanton (93), Ablett (106) and Murphy (94). Sure, those are reasonable scores, but well below what we’d expect from those guns against a first-year club. Just be wary of automatically sticking the ‘C’ on your midfield gun who’s up against the Giants because it could come back to haunt you like that dodgy souvlaki you had after your big night out last Saturday. Just sayin’…

Injury Update

There’s a fair bit of twatter about Dyson Heppell’s in jured knee, with a few coaches concerned that he may be rested through to R13. Well, he’s listed as a test and is pretty important for the Bombers, so I wouldn’t expect him to sit out for an extended period. Others down for a test include the mighty Dane Swan, Al ‘Bundy’ Christensen, H-Mac and, surprisingly, Mummy. Looks like it could be a great round if all these guys get up!

Pick Me! Pick Me!

Hmm… Who to slot in your starting lineup this week? In defence I was impressed with Darley’s 40+ as the sub; Morris and Bugg should be alright and who knows with Ellis – vested again? Stick with Horse in the middle, though you’d expect solid output from Shiel, Magner, Coniglio, Greene and J-Mac. Up forward Zorko, Adams, Treloar and Dickson look to be the better of who’s available. Hope your 50-50 rookie selections work out this week – it’s always a bit of a gamble!

Anyways, that’s the rub for this week. Big scores for everyone please, while I keep praying for my DT to turn it around after three weeks of misery. Feel free to add any news bits, gossip, rumours, rants, raves, etc below to keep the momentum going. See ya next Thursday for another bout of media trawling and good luck this weekend!

Any questions, suggestions, general chit-chat or requests for next week’s Extra?
