Golden Stubby – Round 7

Voting is now open for the DT TALK Golden Stubby for Round 7. This coveted prize will be awarded to the player who excelled on the weekend, taking into account price, form, opponent and whatever else tickles your fancy!

This weeks nominations (collected by @WarnieDT through Twitter) are:

  • Jonathon Giles (107). With the Giants getting their first win, some of our ‘kids’ had to step up. While he isn’t exactly a kid, Giles has been a warrior for our teams week in, week out and making the 1/3 ruck strategy work for us with other rucks dropping like flies. Also I should note that Giles only had 7 at qtr time!
  • Kyal Horsley (95). It’s not often we find a ‘must have’ rookie to jump on like the Horse. We’ve been tricked before with guys like Beau Muston, but he showed he is the real deal with another mammoth effort and he looks set to have the biggest price jump ever in DT!
  • Matthew Boyd (162). Boydy was the top scorer of the round and stepped up to help the Dogs defeat the Roos. Quite a few coaches had faith in him as captain and threw his name out there on Twitter despite Calvin not naming him in his top 5.
  • Dane Swan (143). Our favourite fantasy pig did it again… racking up a nice captains score at the Gabba. He is a machine as we all know and despite copping some attention from Raines after a 52 point first quarter, he put a very poor second term behind him and smashed all comers! It was just a bit sweeter for us actually being there to witness him act like a beast!
  • Tory Dickson (105). A bit of a wildcard selection here for the poll with Dicko finally playing his third game. He kicked 4 goals and while he is sitting as the 9th player in a lot of forward lines, those who didn’t trade him will be pumped with his increased job security off the back of that game!

Who deserves the Golden Stubby for Round 7

  • Jonathon Giles (19%, 409 Votes)
  • Kyal Horsley (23%, 511 Votes)
  • Matthew Boyd (42%, 933 Votes)

  • Tory Dickson (9%, 200 Votes)

Unlucky to not get a gig in the poll: Dean Cox, Scott Thompson, Brent Stanton, Gary Ablett, Adam Treloar (and a fair few more to be totally honest).

Stay tuned for the results. If you are a beer company looking at this, we’re looking for a sponsor of this awesome award (and much more brilliant exposure). Please contact us if you are a beer company and want to get on board!

  • Voted for Horse – for not getting the 3rd game (aka bubble) blues

    • Yep, I voted for him too.
Keeper, till rnd 13, when he can become Boyd/Thommo…et al.

    • If you are going on third bubble blues, surely tory should get the award?

      • he did shit the first 2 games though, other notables:
        Barlow ’10: 128, 127, 46
        Magner ’12: 103, 106, 48
        Beau Muston ’09: 127, 106, 42

        Dickson ’12: 37, 25, 105

  • Boyd for me… got me over the line in three league games and Eliminator. God bless him.

    • you had 4 games where the opponent didn’t have Boyd?! That’s pretty lucky

  • With Ellis scoring a lowly 6, I needed something SPECIAL to help me win! BOYD was the man as my CAPTAIN!

  • I don’t have Stanton, but if he were in this, I would have chucked my vote on him.

Another monster score backing up his 193.

    he has gone 175, 77, 193 and 140!
Congrats to people who started with him from round 1

  • Swanny for me. He was totally tagged out of the game in the second quarter, it was looking very grim for the pig! But he SMASHED raines and any others who dared to play on him in the second half to score 143….wow! HUGE effort from Swan! I’m actually amazed by the lack of votes thus far for Swan…wow. Guess you had to watch the game to see how good he was.

  • None of the above has to be Ebo or big Cox!

  • I realize this isn’t the place but I’ve got to ask…Is Murphy injured?

Quitely stoked it wasn’t one of my starting Mids having a stinker for once, with a real upgrade target finally presenting itself to me. But with that much time in the forward line off the back of a relatively quiet sub-100 score against the Giants and you have to wonder.

    Any word?

    • Not injured just had a heavy tag the last couple of weeks

    • Murphy cost me my mane league by 8 points ! mmm… 3 kicks !

after the GWS game where Old Mac tagged him out of the game Scotty Watters recognized that Murph hurts you more than Judd now and adapted his game plan brilliantly… i tipped Carlton by the way… twice now the Blues have been shown up after Carrots getting injured.

      Regards ,

      I had Carrots

  • those that don’t get that the ‘ Horse ‘ is the GOLDEN STUBBY this week are Drunk !

Ablett and Rischatelli were both back and the guy nearly tons up again !

    Amazing effort !

    regards ,

    G-Bangers ;)

    now that’s humour… too dry

  • My vote goes towards Boyd.

Whilst I have him in my side, I didn’t have him set as captain. Still, he is an awesome player and an absolute gun. Deserves it this week for sure.

  • Captain Boydy, you legend!

I would’ve thought Scotty Thompson deserves a mention. Another massive 138 to go with 128 and 138 in previous 2 weeks to give him a 3 week average of 135 (including against Geelong and Sydney @SCG)

Thrilled to have started with both Boyd and Thompson!

  • Hey Warnie and the Lads!

Was just wondering whether to bring in Heppel or Zaharakis?

Both looking like wonderful upgrade targets!

Please reply to this Warndog you Stud!

  • Boyd for me, but I can’t seem to vote :P

  • As much as I love Boydy n had him in my team from Day 1, he should get the Golden Stubby this week. Beautiful score but I did not captain him for the simple reason that his form did not indicate to do so. Swan’s did n he came through for me like a champ. But part of the Golden Stubby is “taking into account price, form, opponent and whatever else tickles your fancy”.

The Horse is the man this week. With Ablett and Risky back in the side, he still pushed to almost a century as a cheap rookie that was picked up by MANY teams. He came thru for us and there certainly were a lot of doubters.

Boydy, Swan, Stanton: all brilliant but gave us what we paid for.

Horsley: returned our trust in kind. Welcome to my team, ya weapon!

  • Dane Swan has the least votes????

He copped the dreaded Raines tag and scored 5 points in the second quarter. So the pig goes into the change rooms at half time and on his 5th piece of pizza vowed he wouldn’t do what 2 other ‘so-called’ DT champions had done previously (Ablett and Selwood). So he punched a mars bar into him so he had maximum energy levels went forward and showed Raines who will forever be known as the greatest DT player on the planet.

Come on guys and girls. Get around the ‘PIG’!!!!

    • +1 No love for the Pig..dear oh dear, it was in no way a ‘routine big score’ Swanny was outstanding!

Also, Dickson 9%???? I too have Dicko, he did a great job as my emergency forward. But seriously, did ANY of those 9% actually have Dickson onfield? lol

  • The Golden Stubby section is becoming boring…
It was highly predictable that Boydy would get it this week as he had the highest DT Score.

The Horse definitely deserves it this week:
A 120k player pumping out almost his 3rd century in a row AND; possibly having “the biggest price jump EVER in DT!” (making us $90,000 in one evening) is FAR more impressive than a BOYD or SWAN pumping out a 150 or even a 160.

Has there been a week that the highest scorer hansn’t taken out the award??
