  • In the weeks since Mark Bickley took over from Neil Craig as Adelaide’s coach, the Crows have been playing high-possession footy game-plan. As a result the DT output of various Crows has skyrocketed, making many players who would usually be discounted, worthy of DT selection. For those looking for a unique in the last round, here are some options:

    Nathan Van Berlo
    $405,900
    Last Five: 120, 137, 102, 126, 143 (125.6)

First year captain, and since Craig’s departure has led from the front. Quite expensive, but you can likely count on a big score from him against the Eagles, as he is a Western Australian and will want to see the Crows go out on a high note on Saturday night after their worst-ever season. Could be game breaker this week if you need that unique edge.

    Tony Armstrong
    $287,600
    Last Four: 90, 82, 83, 85 (85)

Played his first game for the year against Brisbane in Round 20, and has had a steady, highly consistent output in the weeks since. However, he may struggle in defence against the bigger bodied West Coast forwards, as he is quite light. Starting on the bench but he should not be a sub. A decent pickup if you need a budget DEF/MID.

    Kurt Tippett
    $296,300
    Last Two: 107, 124

Returned in Round 22 to play against what may be his future team, replacing Ivan Maric, and being operating in a new role as a CHF/2nd ruck. As a result, hitouts and playing up the ground has brought him greater DT output. With young goal kicker Jack Gunston out for the coming game, there is a chance Kurt could kick a few goals this weekend (or so I hope). A reasonable option, especially because of the limited amount of available forwards choices this coming round. FWD/RUC could also be useful.

    Rory Sloane
    $360,300
    Last Five: 109, 76, 137, 94, 88 (100.8)

Although this write-up primarily concerns player choice for Round 24, watch this guy for signs that he may breakout next year in a Rockliff/Redden/Shiels-like fashion. Not a huge fan of beating up on poor sides, Rory goes hard at it and should get a decent output against the Weagles. If you’re looking at a Robinson/Kelly/Cross-priced midfielder, Sloane could be your guy.

    Honourable mentions:
Scott Thompson: Nothing really needs to be said. Gun.
Sam Jacobs: Been doing brilliantly as our primary ruck in the second half of the season. A strong candidate if you need a premo ruck and are worried about Goldsteins’s and Sandi’s injury clouds.
Jared Petrenko: A good DT back ,who actually plays forward, he’s been improving every week and may get more of the ball with Gunston out.
Bernie Vince: Bit of a seagull, who is highly inconsistent. Last week’s 144 proves he has massive ceiling though.
Ian Callinan: Cheap as chips, if you’ve got two trades and need to downgrade, he’ll likely be put in the green vest. He should do well when he is playing however, being a 29-year old SANFL veteran who won’t back away from a contest with the big Eagles.

  • Alright, I’m after some magical guidance from a couple of geniuses out there. I’ve somehow made a Grand Final with no trades throughout finals and I’m stuck with a load of emergency type players starting on the field come this weekend. So, some tough decisions need to be made.

Backline is fine, I’ll play Paul Pops ahead of Josh Toy. Sylv, Fyfe and Pav stuck on the midfield bench so no choices to be made there. But forwards is where the it gets a bit sticky:

I need to play TWO of these guys:
    Dion Prestia
    Ian Callinan
    Jack Darling

And, seeing as I’m a big underdog, thinking of taking a risk for captain instead of Swannie, Boyd or Andrew Swallow possibly?

Any help appreciated lads, cheers x

  • With Fyfe and Franklin out I’m going to have about 250k in the kitty after this round… what a joke!

  • callinan or prestia?

I would think callinan to risky as starting sub majour possibility?

  • last week I had two to many players to choose from,

this week no players to choose from……

  • need to play one of calinan or howe. who is more likely to be vested?

  • My only decision is Calinan or Harper. Harper is that bad that a sub effected Calinan score may reach harper anyway, so I am leaning towards calinan, also big upside if he doesnt get the vest.

  • One last trade and a few outs this week so it basically comes down to where it is needed most. So basically who will score most this week

Guerra or Shiels (vs GC), Robinson (vs Saints), Griffen or Cross (vs decimated freo) or Cloke (vs Geelong)

    Currently thinking Shiels.

  • So with the outs and teams as they are (I really hope Cox play) for my GF it looks to be:
    Me vs Opponent

    Fisher vs Adcock
    Bock vs Gram
    Gilbert vs Pederson

    Boyd vs Shiels
    Dal Santo vs Selwood
    Bartel vs I Smith

    Cox vs Hale

    Lobbe vs Cloke
    Prestia vs Harvey

What are my chances? It looks pretty close to me, both of us have unreliable players that could do nothing or a lot.

  • shiels or lewis or marc murphy? lewis averaging 120 in past 3 but he might play forward especially with buddy and rioli out. ???? im leading toward shiels

  • Soooo glad I held off on my big plan to secure Hawks in preparation for the Suns demolition. I had this sneaking suspicion that they’d rest at least a few top-liners. Never imagined this many though!

Unfortunately this conservative play meant I haven’t got Mitchell.

Never mind…I have some pretty good emergencies: Broughton in the backline & Murphy in the midfield (would have been Callinan if Shiels had been rested too). Playing Stanley & Puopolo over Broughton though. Puopolo I reckon’s a lock, but Stanley I’m still not sure about vs Broughton.

Up forward I’m a bit thin now with Pav & Franklin out.

Have solid benchers in every line, just need to work out which line is most likely to have an out. Worried about Big Cox, but then I’m worried about every line given the way the selections have gone.

    Bloody selection shenanigans!!

  • Bit of advice guys. I have a 0 in backline with one trade and have 380k to spend. I am tossing up between Delidio and Guerra. With goldcoast playing Hawks I am leaning towards guerra just because of the outs they have and they should tear Goldcoast a new one.

Could go fisher or Enright but due to who they are playing I am not so keen.

    • Tough call. I’d err toward Deledio myself, but only because I already have him in and he’s got a solid average. Hard to say with Guerra because so many Hawks are out – what is his roll going to be? Could spend time in the midfield which would push his points up or he could get sent forward (??) which you would think might reduce his points because he’s not really a forward.

  • Who would you start out of Stanley or Adcock?
Had trade plans for either one of these fellas, but the Hawthorn capitulation has left me using these trades else where.

  • Damn Hawks! Should have held on to the two trades last week but i got ancy, got Rioli in, which was the worst decision of the year.. Now I’m going to cop a donut in the GF, stupid…
