Trade Talk Tuesday: With destROY #278

Its finals, so unfortunately I am only talking to a minority of DTers who are lucky enough to be in the big one. Actually, by the time I take into account this is a trade article, and not many people have 1 left,  there is ever possibly I am only writing to 100 or so people. In any case, if you have 1 or 2 left and are not in a final, lets use them to try and jump a few hundred spots in the rankings. Today I am going to focus on the Bombers and a popular “out” and offer a straight swap alternative.

Brent Stanton (454,900)

Name: Tom Rockliff
Price: 453,100
Av last 3: 128
AV last 5: 126
Opponent: Sydney
Thoughts: How many times have I tried to tell you its all about the Rockwizz. Yes I have a man crush etc. But why wouldn’t I when he has single handily got me into the GF and to a respectable national ranking. Is it scary that his next game is against Sydney at their home ground? I say no, not with 10 straight 100 point scores with only 1 of them being under 110. You are going to have him next year so you might as well get to know him this week.

Jobe Watson (348,100)

Name: Daniel Cross
Price: 351,100
Av last 3: 98
AV last 5: 89
Opponent: Fremantle @ES
Thoughts: In the last 3 weeks Cross has not dropped below 92 and should get among what should be a feeding frenzy of points against the Dockers. His scoring has increased since the Dogs coaching staff changed and he is as close to a premium as you will get for this lowly price.

Dyson Heppell (325,900)

Name: Grant Birchall
Price: 324,700
Av last 3: 96
AV last 5: 86
Opponent: GC
Thoughts: Birch is coming off a handy 113 which makes it 2 hundred point scores in the last 3 weeks and he is coming up against the DT friendly Suns. Last time Birch went up against the GC he had a handy 101, so expect much the same this week.

Dale Thomas (376,200)

Name: Liam Shiels
Price: 364,800
Av last 3: 91
AV last 5: 89
Opponent: GC
Thoughts: Although Shiels has been inconsistent of late, the Suns provide the perfect platform to get some runs on the board in the week leading up to finals. In the last 4 weeks he has had 2 hundred point scores. The beauty of Shiels is he has a high ceiling with a number of scores over 130 during the year. Be warned: has been up and down, but it could pay off.

Well, this is the last Trade Talk for the year, so you know the routine by now. Use this as a forum to discuss all things trade, and help each other out to make the right decisions.

  • Nice one Roy. Yes, I am in several GFs with one trade left. I thought it would be a simple matter of Heppell to Birchall but now Lower has gone and gotten himself suspended.

I can still do the trade, but then I would have to put Rawlings on the field for Lower.

And there still is the big issue of the one eyed Cox. Is he playing? Can cover with Z Smith but that is not ideal.

    • Hard to think which trades this week with the amount of permutations.

If Cox out, go with Zac or not.

If Fyfe out, do I bring a Prestia onto the ground or bring in Cyril (for Pav). Think the latter.

Lucky Lower covered by Gibbs, hopefully no other outs in defence.

If Pendles out, think trade he provides more upside. Have saved 1 trade for this possibility or a ruckman out.

Good news is main competitor has all of these players, but how many trades does he have?

      • Fyfe out? Missed that one. Travelling over the weekend.

        • He’s had a shoulder problem for the whole season and with the Dockers having nothing to play for, Harvey has decided to put him under te knife early. Means he will fresh for preseason 2012 hopefully!

  • Hey lads, I am one if those lucky ones with a trade up my sleeve heading into the big one. So with one trade, which forward less than $380k should I go to? I don’t want to trade anyone in my opponents team:

My Fwds: Buddy, Chappy, ROK, Didak, Higgins, I Smith, ???, (Gu, Sylvia, Prestia)
His Fwds: Buddy, Stevie J, Goodes, N Voldt, Higgins, Petrie, Gu (Fyfe, Lynch, Callinan)

With Fyfe injured, here are my options:
    NEON LEON:
    Last 5: 104.8 (117, 95, 100, 136, 76)
    Opp: Geelong (MCG)
Opinion: In great form with his last 76 sub-affected. Not sure if he will have the same freedom against Geelong.

    RIOLI:
    Last 5: 85.8 (78, 70, 151, 83, 47)
    Opp: Gold Coast (Metricon)
Opinion: Has the easiest of games against the GC but with the game in the bag and finals coming up, Clarkson has alluded that he will get subbed. If he doesn’t has massive ceiling and could go BANG.

    LECRAS:
    Last 5: 80 (73, 85, 75, 90, 77)
    Opp

Opinion: People say he’s inconsistent but I disagree. He’s consistently sh*t. However IF he gets midfield time, he’s playing the Crows at Patersons

Or should I trade in someone who he already has like a NVoldt or a Petrie? My uniques v his: Suckling v Birchall, Adcock v Enright, Broughton/Rawlings, NDS v Thompson, Goldstein v McEvoy

    • Tough call. Pity you don’t have enough for Cloke, however he could get locked down by the Cats.

Your uniques look pretty close in total. Can you upgrade to a best midfielder?

      • Well my mids are Swan, Pendles, Mitchell, Ablett, Boyd and he has the same except for of course NDS v Thompson. I think it’d be better if I trade in a forward rather than upgrade any if my my mids. What do you think?

    • bring in rioli against the suns

  • Cheers for the tuesday read this season Roy, i dont have any trades left so i gots what i gots for my GF’s

  • Cheers Roy for the priceless trade talk every week.
All I need to decide this week is who to play for Fyfe – Howe/Harper… Most likely the latter. And hopefully Cox can get up or else Zmith gets one last run.
Good luck to all in the big dance and bring on DT 2012.

  • Anyone got the sauce for the nat fyfe injury. Is he getting a shoulder reco?

  • Hey Guys,
    I have 2 trades left,
    $169,000,
And I want to get in Some Big Gun Hawks for the Grand Final,
My option is to get in Mitchell for Bartel,
    And trade Heppel for Birchall,
    Thoughts?

  • 1 trade left to get rid of daisy. $80,000 in the bank so I can get anyone. I’m with Roy might give Rockliff an audition this weekend.

Going to be hard picking only 6 gun mids next year with swan,
Pendles, boyd, ablett, selwood, Murphy, redden, rockliff, mitchell, Hayes will be cheap etc

  • No trades but the use of DPP this season help me out a lot.

  • Just feel like throwing a few options out there for those who need to fill a midfield spot with a reasonably priced player:

    James Kelly:
    $360,300
    AV: 96.6
    Last 5: 102.6

    Luke Hodge:
    $352,100
    AV:94.5
    Last 5: 90
    Up against Gold Coast

    Mitch Robinson:
    $349,900
    AV: 92.1
    Last 5: 89.6
Only scored below 90 twice since round 10.

    Kade Simpson:
    $354,700
    AV: 92.19
    Last 5: 97.8

    Luke Shuey:
    $328,500
    AV: 82.29
    Last 5: 89.6

  • Early locks for next year:

Mumford, Rockliff. Gibbs (hopefully still back/mid), Swan, Cloke, Fyfe, Pendles, Mitchell, Goddard

    • Goddard, really after the up and down year his had. I guess there’s not many options in the back

      • Yeah I’m gonna back him in next year.

      • Goddard’s averaged 95 for the year, the 3rd best out of all the defenders. Can’t be too unhappy with that I wouldn’t have thought.

  • My fwds are: Chapman, Stevie J, Goodes, N Riewoldt, Franklin, didak, Fyfe.

I am thinking of going Fyfe > Cloke but am not sure if Rioli or O’keefe are better options.

I think against GC rioli has the highest ceiling. I think he might be a gamble though :/

  • first pav now thomas ( u dick )\
and fye may be going in for surgery
    before the last game

    • no maybe’s about it. fyfe is out this week.

not to mention a question mark over cox.

petrie has been playing shit lately would it be worthwhile putting in lobbe and cox?

  • Not a big fan of the round 24 grand final system. Unlike ourselves most teams have little to play for this week, and will opt to rest players for finals or to accelerate pre-seasons for those carrying an injury.

It is a pity that many league winners will be decided on a “last man standing” basis: while you may argue this is the reason we save trades, this round is already looking like a training run for many teams. Even with two trades in hand I’m not sure you would break even – there is likely to be more foxing around selection and late withdrawals than usual.

I’m doing well out of the situation myself – at least I can’t complain so far – but frankly I’d rather beat my opponent with their best team on the park under more ‘typical’ circumstances. Its a bit of a sad end to what was otherwise a hotly contested league…. is there a better way?

    • he mad

    • Cop that!

WOW, serious case of a Manstrual Cycle there.

    • There will be if the multiple team bye weeks get eliminated. I’m in a lot of gridiron player comps and the comps are set up in a way where the playoffs actually finish a week or two before the end of the season as resting players is quite common.

This helps eliminate the “luck” factor of having players rested in the final week.

    • Comment removed. Show some respect to the DTT boys – we don’t need that sort of childish drivel here.

  • Should i trade daisy for -bartel,swallow,montags or shiels?
leaning towards swallow because my opponent has him and i reckon i got him covererd elsewhere.
    Thoughts please?

    • Why not someone like Hodge or Maloney against port. Even someone like Higgins could be in for a big game against a decimated Freo.

      • Out of all your options id go Shiels.

        • I agree…as much as I hate to say it *gasp!* Lego-Man Higgins will TEAR the decimated Dockers a new-one under the roof at Etihad. He is an absolute lock for 100+ IMHO

          • ooops, I agreed on the Higgins option, but Shiels will still be awesome too! :P

  • Just like the real thing…comes down to depth to cover injuries, could be playing the bootstudder in the backline in the GF.

  • I am in my league final and am really proud I stuck to my guns and saved my trades.
I planned it out so I had 2 per week remaining including the Grand Final.
My opponent has Nat Fyfe, I don’t. He has no trades.
Now I just wait until late Friday to make my 2 trades depending on the outs.

My advice to players wanting a League win is to Save Your Trades.

    • I think the 24 trades we had this year was too many. Meant you could kill a few trades and still get away with it. For those of us non-newbies, has anyone found it much easier with those few extra trades?

I’ve got 2 trades this week, double traded last week. I went for overall this year instead of just a league win… best was about 70 which I was at for about 8 weeks, but one bad week killed me and left me hovering around 200.

Looks like it may be forced trading this week with Fyfe and maybe Cox no good… spewin as Pav/Sylvia are still sitting on the pine…

      • Yep, 2 trades too many i recon.

I’ve got 2 trades left and $220,100 and have no idea what to do with them.

Looks like i will be sidewaysing Adcock -> Enright and Lobbe -> Sandilands (effectively replacing Mzungu)

      • Not sure if easier, I think it has been more a matter of working through the tough weeks and copping a few losses in order to save your trades for when they count most.

  • My early midfield starters for 2012

Swan, Rockliff, Redden, Barlow, Hayes *Rookie*

    • Like it

    • I reckon if possible my first picks next year will be Swan, Pendles, Rockliff, Mitchell, Hayes in the mids.. In defence I will lock Gibbs, Goddard and maybe Suckling and Lids. Rucks Mummy and Sandi I reckon and forwards Cloke, Buddy, Stevie, Didak. Cant wait :P

    • i agree mine at the moment is ( i know its early)

Swan, Rockliff, Hayes, Barlow, Boyd, Gaff

Gaff is starting to find his feet now and also the ball, gonna be a awkward price next year ($300-350ish) which should scare off most people. my tip for a breakout year

  • 1 trade left, 91,100 in the bank (am in the GF)

    DEF: Goddard – Deledio – Fisher – Suckling – S.Martin – Adcock – Puopolo (Duigan, B.Smith, Nicholson)

MID: Swan – Pendles – Redden – Boyd – Thompson – Mitchell (Sylvia, Jacobs, Wallis)

RUC: Sandilands – Cox (Z.Smith, Gawn)

    FWD: Fyfe – Franklin – Chapman – N.Roo – Mzungu – Prestia – I.Smith (Pavlich, Knights, B.Matera)

What should I do with my last trade? Am thinking Pav > ANY FWD or Sylvia > ANY FWD that is 402,800 or less?

    Thoughts?

  • Made all my League Grandy’s but you kinda get that feeling that there is gunna be some carnage once teams are selected Thursday night.

Lower, Fyfe and Daisy already gone. Cox will surely get rested, Mitchell doubtful, Hawks will more than likely rest at least one.

Saved 2 trades, thank f**k cause I’m gunna need em!!!!!

    • Probably more carnage late Friday also.
How about the late withdrawals like Mitchell last round.
Could be interesting & maybe Luck will win a few grannies!

  • 1 trade left, am trading Pav/Sylvia/Fyfe (doesn’t matter who) > ANY FORWARD

Which Forward should I get? Am thinking:

    Rioli (vs GCS

    or

    Goodes (vs Brisbane

    Any other suggestions?

My Opponents FWD line: Fyfe, Goodes, O’Keefe, Nahas, Chapman, Franklin, Petrie/Mzungu/Didak

  • U forgot to mention Paul Puopolo. He is a shit player and will most likely spud up a 35 at Metricon this weekend. Any1 stupid enough to have him in their team should either…
    1) Delete Their Team
    2) Straight swap for K.Hunt (They’ll score about the same)

  • Ben Jacobs out is a nuisance, handy as a just in case. It looks like Goldstein will get the week off, which is great for me.

I’m already down to three playing emergencies and maybes with J.Tippet and Calinan.

    • Not looking good with Lower out, Otten doubtlful and Jacobs out it means my backline will cop a doughnut unless by some miracle the rest of my team stays on the park. Have a bad feeling Cox, Pendlebury, Hodge, Rioli and Cloke may be rested. One trade left with one player cover on every line except backs.

Wouldn’t surprise me as its basically the same as what happened last year.

    • Are you serious?! Goldstein might get a rest!? Damn I traded him in last week and with Cox also doubtful and no cover for the rucks, I’m screwed :(

      • Yeah McIntosh is labelled a definite in. Article also mentioned that Goldstein looking tired would be the logical person to miss, but there’s also Pedo and Petrie as possibilities to miss.

      • Why would Goldstien get a rest? There season is over anyway.

  • All hail king Rockliff…Gonna be my 2nd pick behind Swan next year

  • Mick Malthouse goes to a Richmond past and present evening and starts chatting with Damien Hardwick. Damien says to Mick, ‘Well Mick, I don’t know what you think of your players at Collingwood, but mine here are all bright and brilliant.

‘How do you know?’ asks Mick.

‘Oh well, it’s simple’, says Damien. ‘We put them through a special intelligence test before they can play here. Just pick any of my players and we will see how well he does.’

Mick thinks for a while and then nominates Jake King.

Damien calls him over and asks him,’ Tell me Kingy, who is the child of your father and of your mother who is not your brother and is not your sister?’

‘Ah, that’s simple Damo ,’ says Jake, ‘it’s me’.

‘Well done Kingy’, says Damien, and Mick is very impressed.

Mick returns to Collingwood and wonders about the intelligence of the team.

He calls in Maxy and asks,’ Nick, tell me, who is the child of your father and of your mother who is not your brother and is not your sister?’

Nick thinks and thinks and doesn’t know the answer. ‘Can I think about it a bit more Mick, and I’ll give you an answer tomorrow?’

‘Of course,’ says Mick, ‘you’ve got 24 hours. But it is very important that you come up with the answer.’

Nick goes away, thinks as hard as he can, and then he calls in his teammates. Dane thought it might be his Grandpa but wasn’t sure. Heath was certain that it couldn’t be anyone, especially not him. Daisy admitted he would need to go to Arizona to clear his head. Cloke owned up to failing the test while trying to get a position at Punt Road.

Pendles thought it could be a cousin in Italy who had been adopted as a child. The rest of the team wouldn’t even hazard a guess. Didak went into the foetal position.
20 hours later, Nick is very worried that he still has no answer with only 4 hours to go.
Eventually Nick says’ I know, I’ll ring Chris Judd! He’s clever, he’ll know the
    answer.’

He calls Chris. ‘Juddy,’ he says, ‘tell me, who is the child of your father and of your mother who is not you brother and is not your sister?’

‘Very simple,’ says Chris, ‘it’s me!’

‘Of course!’ says Nick and immediately rings Mick.

‘Mick,’ says Nick,’ I’ve got the answer: it’s Chris Judd.’

‘No, you idiot,’ says Mick. ‘It’s Jake King.’

  • BEN JACOBS IS OUT f*ck me!! heppell for the bye no probs in comes lower. Ok lower susp no worries in comes otten. Oh shit really??!! otten out dpp heppell with jacobs ahhhhhh love my dpp. JACOBS OUT!!!!??? (first time ive said it this year ) FMDT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now along with fyfe out ive lost 4 players in 2 days !!! Sh*t . Granted 2 of these players aren’t guns but they were my solution to the finals by in my backs! ahhh mannn

    • Yeah Im adding Sylvia and Pavlich and Fyfe to that merry list – Otten.

If one of my mids miss I realised I’m ok. Gibbs/Scotland etc into mids and Puopolo/Pederson into defence.

  • who could i get rid of Jake Carlisle for? with my last two trades, and 23800, any ideas?

  • Hey lads, which forward is going to bring home the bacon?

    Opp: Adelaide (Patersons)
Opinion: People say he’s inconsistent but I disagree. He’s consistently sh*t. However IF he gets midfield time, he’s playing the Crows at Patersons

    N VOLDT:
    Last 5: 97.8 (134, 91, 62, 81, 121)
    Opp: Carlton (MCG)
Opinion: He had a brilliant game on the weekend but he seems to only score well when he plays shit teams- the 121 v NM, 134 v AC, 91 v Freo and so this week against Carlton I can’t see him scoring as freely

    • Yes I have to agree with your comment on mark lecras. He is consistently sh*t. Kicks 12 goals against a struggling side and people label him as an all australian. Great, next thing you know people will be saying milney deserves a spot in the all australian team along with maxwell.

  • so glad lower and potentially otten are out. because when you play spuds like dr dreamteam who are still playing rookies at this time of the year its annoying when they smash out 100’s against so called premiums. versing dr dt in 2 leagues and cant wait to smash him in the game that counts.

  • 1 trade left, am trading Pav/Sylvia/Fyfe (doesn’t matter who) > ANY FORWARD

Which Forward should I get? Am thinking:

    Rioli (vs GCS

    or

    Goodes (vs Brisbane

    Any other suggestions?

My Opponents FWD line: Fyfe, Goodes, O’Keefe, Nahas, Chapman, Franklin, Petrie/Mzungu/Didak

My FWD line: Franklin, Chapman, N.Roo, Mzungu, Prestia, I.Smith, Matera (Fyfe, Pavlich, Sylvia)

    • Looks like you need an epic score from a Stevie J or a Rioli to save you. You are massively outgunned in the fwd line.

    • Rioli is too risky he might be a late withdrawl or be sub again. Id go Higgins or Goodes.

  • BACKS: Gibbs, Goddard, Deledio, Birchall, Fisher Enright, Suckling EMG: Stanley, Adcock, O’Keefe
MIDS: Pendlebury, Swan, Boyd, Mitchell, Ablett, Montagna EMG: Mzungu, Callinan, Mullett
RUCKS: Cox, Sandilands EMG: Smith, Keefe
FORWARDS: Fyfe, Goodes, Johnson, O’Keefe, Franklin, Chapman, Riewoldt EMG: Krakouer, Smith, Richardson

    BANK: $14900
    TRADES: 2

    What to do?
    Where can i improve?
Who is the best players to get?

    • 1- Trade out Stanley for Tutt
      2-Swap Mzungu with Krakouer
3-Upgrade Riewoldt (Jack or Nick??) to Rioli/O’Keefe
4- Sub out Fyfe for Mzungu

New FWD line=Goodes, Johnson, O’Keefe, Franklin, Chapman, Riolo/O’Keefe, Mzungu (E=Smith)

    • By the way, that is an awesome team on paper mate haha what are you ranked!!

  • Cant wait for my GF this weekend but even more excited about next year, already thinkin of my team haha
Tottos Terminators definate starters next season
-Rockliff (disgusted in myself that I have never had him in my team)
    -Barlow (2012 Brownlow anyone?)
    Uniques
    Rory Sloane (BREAKOUT YEAR)
    Matthew Kruezer (Cheap)

    Rookie Priced
    Fremantle – Brendan Fevola FWD
    GWS – Andrew Lovett MID
    GWS – Jonathon Giles RUCK

    • 2012 Backline needs ALOT of work
DEF-Gibbs, Grimes, Deledio, Varcoe, Armstrong (mini-mcloed) ADEL, Addison GWS, P.Davis GWS

MID-Ablett, Rockliff, Barlow, Thomas, Palmer (GWS), Sloane
      *J.Caddy GCS, D.Tyson, A.Lovett GWS*

      RUCK-Sandilands, Kruezer
      *J.Giles GWS, B.Longer*

      FWD-Fyfe, Dangerfield, Didak, Ziebell, Zaharakis, S.Johnson, J.Brown
      *B.Fevola FRE, J.Patton GWS, S.Coniglio GWS*

Going to try and play as many running players as possible, no more KPP except Brownie coz hes cheap
