Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 17 UPDATED
Last week, I personally went with my new mate Seaman Love Swan (ha ha), he has been in smoking form and was wicked. Now… for all those people who last week said “Calvin, why isn’t Gary Ablett in your top 5?”… we’ll I guessed that was answered by the people who had him locked in for his 81! My point I’m trying to make here is… listen to the Irish pirate, he’ll guide you through. Hodgey was even solid for me with 126, but my top 5 was let down my Bartel for his 72, but who hasn’t be burnt this year doing that?
Now… yeah, I’m once again snowed under with work and will not be able to piece together an article and will once again call upon you guys to get this stuff rolling again. Hopefully the last time this year, but I said that last week. But seriously, snowed under big time and need the time to keep the bosses happy.
So simply… cut and paste the following in and last week we saw some ripper player reviews so keep them coming. The more details the better! Details are the key… for example, I told you last week that Clinton Jones would go to Didak as he has done it for the last 2 times, that info is golden and sold Swanny for me with the big C. Good luck and thanks again guys!
I’ll kick the ball rolling as I have had good luck with this guys, and I’ll start it with DANE SWAN.

Player: Dane Swan
Vs: Richmond @ MCG
Form: Smoking! Scores of 138, 141, 161 in his last 3. No one in the AFL is even close to the numbers that this boy is putting up at the moment.
History: Richmond are his 2nd worst team to play across his career. With previous scores of 125 (2009) and 89 (2008) and even 62 (2007) it is safe to say that the 125 in Rd. 20 last year is his only ripper. In that game he had 34d, 2g and was tagged by Jackson (then Rance).
Consider This: He was smacked in the face. But it’s not like having your house shot at like Travis Cloke experienced (which really unsettled his year) so Swan should be 100% fine to go. Roy made a good quote the other day: “If Malthouse rests him for this… what message does it send to the public thugs out there who hate opposition teams and players? Hit em and they’ll rest?” Right on Roy, Swan will be fine. Last time they played the little dirty rabbit (Jake King) tagged Didak and really should be going to him and it seems Swanny should be let off the tagging hook again. Last week Richmond only gave the Roos 2×100+ scores but this doesn’t concern me in the slightest. Swanny loves the MCG and has previous scores there of 138 and 150 in his last 2. You’d be a gutsy dude to be putting a “C” on anyone else this week I reckon.
Predicted Score: 121

Player: Paul Chapman
Vs: Brisbane
Form: Chappy has bee great all year only once scoring under a hundred. His last 3 games have been 130, 117, 102.
History: He has killed the lions the last three times he has played them. With a score of 123 earlier this year and 117 and 126 last year. Some big scores there.
Consider This: Lions are very bad at the monent. With their defence struggling and there mids no the best chappy could be looking at a massive score.
Predicted Score: 120+
Based on my research the top five this week should be:
1) Swan
2) Gibbs
3) Chappy
4) Montagna
5) Bartel
According to 3AW Gibbs is getting dropped this week. See if its true tomorrow, hey.
Don’t start rumors please, atleast not on this website.
Gibbs will be playing, Ratten even said on ‘On the Couch’.
I wasnt starting a rumor. I was stating a report I heard on the radio. Why would I do that especially as if he is dropped it would be announced in teams tomorrow and not affect anyone. God u have been a judgemental dick since you’ve popped up.
Good use of personification on my dick.
He wont be dropped. The Eagles (I hate to say it), are looking dangerous. I know they only beat Essendon who are …… not travelling well at the moment, but the blues are nearly equally as bad at the moment with only one win out of 5 games. The Blues will need all their gun players firing.
No point looking elsewhere, Swan locked. Jackson is still suspended, no worries.
@Calvin-the last two weeks have been my best two captain picks, please continue to do nothing.
+1 lol
ha ha – you must have Swan
Player: Matthew Boyd
Vs: Fremantle @ Etihad
Form: Has been on fire recently with scores of 133, 142 and 121.
History: Doesn’t have a great record against Fremantle, with his last three being 84, 102 and 78. With the 84 coming in Round 18 at Etihad last year.
Consider This: I love Boyd’s Etihad record this year, averaging 124. Although his worst score was against Essendon at Etihad in round 10. I’m not too worried about his history with Fremantle, as Boyd seems to be upping his output in the last two year, and I think now he can really be considered elite in DT.
Predicted Score: 115
Remember that Boyd just played up at Darwin, so fatigue could be a factor.
Player: Sam Mitchell
Vs: Saints @ Etihad
Form: 3 tons and a 98 in his last 4. Missed a week with a broken hand, but didn’t slow him too much last round
History: Last three v StK 90, 117,61.
Consider This: Either gets 115+, 90 or stinks it up v Saints
Predicted Score: 90
Player: Brendan Goddard
Vs: Hawks @ Etihad
Form: 3 120s and a 96 in his last 4. Missed a week then underwhelmed against the Pies
History: Didn’t play the Hawks last year and has only played them 3 times in nearly 5 years. Those last 3 are 146, 88 (2008) and 124 (2006), avg 119
Consider This: Lowest score at Etihad this year is 97, has scored 5x 120s there this year
Predicted Score: 120
Fatigue from Darwin could be a factor for boyd but also keep in mind boyd is a super fit dude. for me it’s down to 2 guys every week… swan or boyd. Last 4 weeks I have gone with Swan & i’m sticking with him again, like they say “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”
Player: GAZZA
Vs: Brisbane @ SS
Form: Well down on his usual output. 81, 109, 108 in his last 3 this year. Surely he will turn that around soon!
History: Doesn’t mind the Lions, played them in round 8 this year for 96 points (31 touches including 22 by hand with 4 marks and 3 tackles plus 1.1… tagged by Polkinghorne). Before that he had a 140 in 2009. (tagged by Sherman in Q1 then head to head with Power in Q2 then tagged by Selwood in Q3… 42 possessions and 2.0 with 6 tackles). He also had 88 and 139 in 07.
Has has had 133, 167, 124, 108 at SS this year.
Consider This: Loves playing at SS. Shocker last week, you can’t keep champions down two weeks is a row. Expect him to bounce back into form.
Predicted Score: 122
Player: JPOD
Vs: Brisbane @ SS
Form: 63, 59, 120 in his last 3.
History: Yet to play the Lions.
This is what you need to know:
He has scored 5 goals everyime at SS for scores of 115, 105, 118,103, 120 respectively.
Consider This: Geelong got beaten last week, they will be hungry for a win. Lions are out of form. JPod loves playing at SS. Expect him to bag his normal 5 goals.
Predicted Score: 115
The highest scoring DT game last year (100+) was when the Cats got a visit from the Lions last year. wet day and it was DT heaven
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/doctors-collapse-rattled-cats/story-e6frf9jf-1225894993638
Interesting article which may explain some of the low scores by Geelong last Friday…
Pfft…why can’t they just accept they were outplayed, why not look at it the other way and try and get the win for the poor bloke. Was shocked when I heard what happened, hope he is recovering well.
No denying that Adelaide played well but Geelong certainly didn’t seem themselves on Friday…
Whether that is as a result of this or just Adelaide being in form, who knows? Just a diff perspective or something people might want to take into consideration before jumping off some of their Geelong players as captains who scored low on Friday
wouldnt that mean they would lift more like when Melbourne win for Jim Stynes whose going through a rough patch?
Did you read the article? :/
yea it bothered them soo much that they kicked the first 3 goals of the match.
i dont wanna sound like a dik head here :P but geelong were outplayed, simple as that. im tired of them using their doctor as an excuse for their loss…. its pretty obvious that crows were the better side on the day
Harry taylor mustnt of gave a rats ass about the doctor.
Player: Leigh Montagna
Vs:Hawks at ES
Form: Bloody beautiful with 135, 129 and 133 in his last 3 !!!!!!
History: Last played the Hawks in 2008 scores 79 (2008) 114(2008) and 143 (2007) av of 112
History at ground: in the past 3 he has score 135, 146 and 151!!! he loves ES
Consider This: He hasnt play Hawks since 2008 not sure if he will cop the tag. but it dosnt matter as his history, history at ground and form are so good.
Predicted Score: IMO 130
Player: Luke Hodge
Vs: Saints @ ES
Form: 126, 87, 119 = 110
History: not too good 73, 103 and a 90 = 89 av not to bad but not captian worthy
History at ground: IMO he loves it here 129, 125 and a 95 = 116 av
Consider This: Luke Hodge is Luke Hodge you can always go into a game not worring when he is captian
Predicted Score: 95
Player: Chris Judd
Vs: West Coast @ Subi
Form: Very good 106, 115 and 99 = av of 107
History: 130, 102 and 64 these are the only times Juddy has played the Coasters. = av of 99 so close.
History at ground: 132 (smashed it) 64 and a poor 40 = av of 79 (Gulp)
Consider This: Be prepared for a bad one IMO
Predicted Score: 80
dal santo is back. it shits me that st kilda can’t get a proper injury list out ever when all other clubs can. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/98676/default.aspx
Warnock to play this week. Might go J.Trengove (PA)-77k rookie if Warnock plays and plays well.
Player:Adam Goodes
Vs: Melbourne @ the G
Form: 116, 158 and 95 in his last three, giving him a nice average of 123
History: hasn’t played the demons too many times recently, with scores of 82 (tagged by Morton) rd 17 last year, 55 (injured mid-game) back in ’08 and 114 back in ’07, where he got 3 brownlow votes.
Consider This: He Loves the G, with an average of 130 or something in his last 5 there, and with his move back into the guts, which has given him some massive scores, he should crack out a 125+ score.
Predicted Score: 127
EXCLUSIVE: JASON Akermanis turmultous four-year parternwhsip at the Western Bulldogs is over.
Akermanis was given his marching orders at a meeting today for what is believed to be ongoing breaches of trust.
An announcement from the club is imminent where the Dogs will explain the reasons for the decision.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/akermanis-sacked-by-dogs/story-e6frf9jf-1225895166894
Shit.
yeah media conference in 10mins re: akermanis, i’m interested in what they will actually say.
You said it “Shit”
Player: Jason Akermanis
Vs: Fremantle @ ES
Form: Hasnt played for a while
History: 143, 73, and 91 = av of 102
Consider This: Akermanis has missed alot of games and will be glad to return for the dogs.
Predicted Score: 97

Vs: Saint Kilda @ ES
Form: 89, 109 and 113 = av of 104
History: Uhh Ohhh 67, 68 and 39 = not even gonna say
Consider This: nothing to consider defs not this week
Predicted Score: 67
Player: Kade Simpson
Vs: West Coast @ Subi
Form: 77, 74 and 108 (copped tags last two weeks) = av of 86
History: 112, 125 and 114 !! KADE YOUR IN FOR A BIG WEEK = av of 117
Consider This: Kade has gotten the tag last two weeks and it has worked wouldnt be surprised if Coasters give it a go.
Predicted Score: 100
Player: Scott Thompson
Vs: Port Power @ AAMI
Form: 97, 93 and a huge 146!! = av of 112
History: 68, 80 and 88 dosnt look like he likes Showdowns = av of 79
Consider This: His Form says he is Killing it he may be worth a crack.

Vs: Dockers @ ES
Form: Bloody Thrilling mate, 141!! 99 and 110 = av of 117
History: 120, 99 and 101 = av of 107
Consider This: All the above says 100+++++ IMO he will smash it
Predicted Score: 130
I think ive done my fair share :)
Don’t stop now Wraygun, i was waiting for the report on Skipper to see if i should start him ahead of Mitch Clark!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, good work mate. :-)
just do it anyway lol
Pity Hawks are playing the Saints, would be much easier to do. Can’t see him scoring like last week.
Lions v’s Cats, can’t see Clark (or Brown) doing much DT scoring either.
Player: Alan Didak
Vs: Richmond
Form: 114, 82, 103, 89, 121 Last 5 av 101.8
History: 110, 109, 82 last 3 av 100
Consider This: Pretty good form, scored his first ton against the saints last week.
Predicted Score: 105
Player: Matthew Pavlich
Vs: Dawgs
Form: I’ll be the first to admit the Pavilator has been dissappointing in his last month putting out scores of 68,56,98 and 79
History: The Pav has some solid form against the doggies with 120 in his last at subi and 78,97 and 90 in his last 3 against them before that.
Consider This: Check the back page of the West this morning and you’ll find that dual premiership player and Kangaroos gun David King has given the big Pav a bit of a rev up saying its his time to lift for the injury riddled Dockers. Anyone who was familiar with the team of the 90s will know that David King is footy royalty and Pav will definitely do well to take notice of comments from him. Also Pav is a champ, and finally hes in a side that can semi support his awesomeness. There is no way the Pav wont bring his A game this weekend in his sides first serious tilt at the flag since..ever.
Predicted Score: 131
It seems like Pav is carrying a bit of an ankle injury. I hope he does well coz he is in my team but I’m not holding my breath
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/98655/default.aspx
hmm could b a good upgrade option come finals time
Player: Lance Franklin
Vs: St Kilda
Form: 110, 96, 130, 103, 83 av. 104.4
History: 55, 38, 52
Consider This: History is woeful. But we all know Buddy is the type of guy who on his day can turn a game.
Predicted Score: 90
last time he played the saints, dawson knocked his tooth out so he’ll be looking for revenge haha
Player: Ryan O’Keefe
Vs: melbourne
Form: 103, 66, 125, 71, 110 av 95
History: 89, 78, 86
Consider This: Highest score against melbourne is 93 in 2006
Predicted Score: 90
as you said ” injury riddled Dockers”
there is an article on AFL saying pav is playing but carrying an ankle injury. dont put him captain
lies.
disregard my first comment… sorry bud didnt check.
didn’t check but you commented like a peanut anyway.
meant to be a reply to pav post
im still backing the pav to play through said injury in the forward line and kick 7
Player: Jimmy Bartel
Vs: Brisbane Lions
Form: 72, 139, 94, 94, 137 av 107.2
History: 132, 49, 137
Consider This: None of Geelongs stars really got going last week so look past the 72. They will bounce back against Brisbane and Jimmy certainly will aswell. he has some huge scores against brisbane including 3 over 125 in his last 5 vs them and 132 when they met earlier in the year.
Predicted Score: 130
they played the crows so we didn’t expect any of m 2 really hit any form
Yeah Cats will get some big scores this week, coming off the loss and playing the Lions at SS.
They would have all been bit shook up last week too with the docs heart attack. Would definitely played on their minds.
After last week i dont have the balls to pick bartel again!
some1 do jwood
According to some of the predicted scores posted here my team should score about 2800 this week :)
Lucky i’ve got u covered……….2920 at the moment!!!
Player: Scott Pendlebury
Vs: Richmond
Form: Up and down the last 4 with 119, 92, 124, 79
History: Last 3 games vs Tigers 116, 87, 92, Last 2 at the G 119, 136.
Consider This: Averages 107 at the G this year, 9 out of 16 games this year over the 100,
Predicted Score: 106
Player: J.Selwood
Vs: Brisbane @ SS
Form: 118, 104, 109, 120 in his last 4 this year. Solid!
History: 110 (32 disposals, 7 marks, no tag), 84, 90 in his last 3 against Brisbane.
History at SS: 126, 107, 110, 109 in his last 4 at SS. With a shocking 60 before that.
This is what you need to know: He’s in good form, Cats will be hungry for a win and he will avoid the tag.
Predicted Score: 122
Player: Brent Stanton
Vs: North Melbourne
Form: 110, 86, 79, 70, 73
History: 103, 37, 110, 139
Predicted Score: 110
will get the tag without a doubt. expect 70-80 unless we are getting smashed so badly they stop bothering with the tag because they feel sorry for us.
We can only hope they stop tagging him, you’re right if they are getting flogged he may score ok.
just had a look into his scores. we all know stanton cant handle a tag, but i thought id look at the link between hille and stanton. Stanton averages 109.6 in games this year while Hille has been playing. Since Hille has been injured that average has dropped by 25 ppg! to 83.6 id like to see how he scores once hille returns
Reckon that would be even more important for Ryder………..
Dons playing terribly at the moment, but Hille is big strong bloke who definitely gives them something extra.
Somebody do Bryce Gibbs!
all i know is that earlier this year when he played west coast he smashed out a huge 166!
do it yourself!!!
fan footy
Player: Paul Chapman
Vs: Brisbane
Form: 102, 117, 130, 99, 108
History: Last 3 against brisbane: 123, 117, 126
Consider This: Chappy has only dropped 1 score under 100 and that was 99 against essendon.
Predicted Score: 120 at least
127, 140, 140, 108, 130 last 5 at skilled!
gibbs & his whole teams form has been average lately though plus a small sidenote this game will be at subi that big game he had was at etihad i think.
Who should i bench???
Chapman, Pods, Okeefe, higgins, hall, betts, brow, fyfe
thinking brown or betts
id bench brown
yeah thats what im leaning towards
but i wouldnt want him to score 100+ and miss out on it
why would you even list the first 5 ?
yeah sorry
betts, he’s a hack
having said that gibbs form over the last 4 = 106,102,116,112
There is a reply button you know ;)
why would you think of putting chappy on the bench anytime let alone this week when he’s playing the lions & at home? i’d go with betts on the bench but some might say fyfe.
Since all my other midfielders have been done, I’ll do the last one …
Player: Kane Cornes
Vs: Adelaide @ AAMI
Form: Kornes form over the last month has been patchy. After a couple of downers, he hit back with a HUGE 140 against the dogs in Darwin. However, he did average a massive 100+ at this ground and such a score was no surprise.
History: Adelaide are actually his third worst team. His past five scores …. 114, 85, 118, 84, 105 … not great but not terrible either. However, his record at AAMI this season is terrific with an average of 104 and a low of just 79.
Consider This: For the most part, Kane Cornes ran free last week with only a light tag on Boyd and Cooney at times. This was his first game under Primus; has the caretaker coach released him from heavy tagging and given him more freedom to chase the ball?
Predicted Score: 111
Story of the year for me…bad captain choices!, neve going Bartel again. Gonna leave Monty for the rest of the year…..Hes my swan seeing as im dumb and didnt grab him. Good job everyone for posting up Captain choice….Your all fukn tops ;)
you know what will happen now bartel will have a HUGE game… dream team god’s can be nasty when they wanna be lol.
Player: Bryce Gibbs
Vs: West Coast @ Subiaco
Form: DT-wise, consistent enough with his last 5 scores all over 100. However his own supporters have been disappointed with his form.
History: West Coast are his 2nd favorite team to play (altho he doesnt play them often) with scores of 166, 84 and 86 in the last three seasons. The 166 came just 7 weeks ago. His last score at Subi was a massive 140 against Freo.
Consider This: There is a whisper that Gibbs is will be dropped this week. :o
I’d wait for the teams to come out first obviously, but assuming he plays, will Worsfold put a tighter tag on him after he tore them up last time? I think not!
Predicted Score: 133
Player: Lachlan Hansen
Vs: Essendon @ Docklands
Form: His avg over the last 5 weeks … 69! Wow!
History: Has only played one game against Essendon scoring 114! Wow!
Consider This: Mark Lecras kicked 12 against Essendon last week and he’s a ****ing midget! Lachie is god and will kick a bag so big that is almost impossible to comprehend. Also, Essendon is shit.
Predicted Score: 3258
Was it really necessary?
essendon….LOL!!!
Yes
Cheers, i was just sitting on the fence about that one. Now you’ve convinced me.
shame for us people who don’t have lachie hansen :(
Player: Leigh Montagna
Vs: Hawthorn @ Etihad
Form: Last 4 :128 135 129 133 = Avg of 131.3
History: Avgs 102 vs the hawks from 5 games (94, 80, 143, 114, 79)
and at Etihad…. Last 4: 137,151,146,135= avg of 142 WOW
Consider This: Hasn’t played Hawks since 2008 so his avg of 102 against them could be higher if he played them last year when he became a jet.
Predicted Score: 135
If you have Swan and Joey (Like I do) it’s going to be a tough decision.
Not sure if anyone has done him yet but…
Player: Brendon Goddard
Vs: Hawthorn
Form: Has been playing really well, last 3 he has averaged 112
History: in his last 3 he has scored 146, 88, 124, so pretty bloody good!
Consider This: hasnt played them in a while, not since 2008, but hopefully he’ll pump out a huge one
Predicted Score: 125 – 130
would someone please tell rocket eade to put gia in the mid so can actually get a half decent score, shit!!
I’ll just ring him up now…
Just got off the phone… Rodney said no.
bloody bold bloke
Player: Dane Swan
Vs: Richmond @ MCG
Form: 138, 141, 161 in his last 3.
History: Richmond are one of his worst… with previous scores of 125, 89
Consider This: May be in some doubt after the pub incident.
Predicted Score: 113 or 124 or even 137.
how old are you?
17 or 21 or even 35.
hes clearly like 80
Once again i ask the question: Are you blind?
I said 17 or 21 or even 35.
not sure who to bench out of pods and rockliff??
Rockliffe… lions will do shit, limiting his score and pods’ just loves the skilled.
was leaning that way, cheers
mmm Pods may even be a smokie for captain this week.
yea but there are better options mate
essendon won’t win another game 4 the yr and will end up on the bottom of the ladder
seriously if u support them then well…. change teams cos they’re a joke LOL
If you go for Adelaide and your name is Kevinf21, you might aswell just die right now… otherwise change teams cause you and your team is just a joke.
ah stop attacking me u fat fark
go get a life and stop replying 2 evrything u dighead
