Hi lady and gents (assuming our 1 female reader still checks in with RRE) welcome to round 15. Well… what a big week, team selections havent even come out and I am screwed! (I’m writing this bit Wednesday night). I thought bad things were supposed to come in 3′s but I just found out there is a fourth. What are the chances of 3 broken legs in 1 freaking week. We are all in the same boat with poor old Barlow, but not to many are stupid enough to still have Ziebell running around like destROY.

Just when I thought all was calm, yes I had to burn two trades, but I was happy that overall it made my team better, I get the dreaded news of a third broken leg… AND THE BROKEN LEG IS SWANNIE! Yes thats right, our greyhound swannie broke its leg in the 10 and a half length win last week. Lucky she is tough and will be back Barlow style. The 4th piece of bad news is Sam bloody Mitchell missing again this year which will ensure I have my trademark 0 for the week. I think the best focus this week will be to look at Barlow ($454,600).

Upgrade option:

Dane Swan- An average of 137 in the last four has quietened up and few Ablett vs Swan (Gazza is way better) arguers. Swanny is by far the best player in DT at the moment and he was at his best last week with 161 against West Coast. This week they play Port where surely Kane Kornes will try to curb Swannies influence… but history says Swannie will be free to tip toe around the park. Priced at $512,100 and a BE of 112.

Basically straight swap options:

Gary Ablett- Who would have thought at the start of the year Gazza could be picked up in a straight swap for Barlow. Well, its happened due to Ablett’s form mirroring that of a mere superstar, not a mega superstar as we have become accustomed. A month average of 109 has caused a price drop to $456,900. A BE of 119 would suggest there is 1 more price drop due, however its Gary Ablett people. The only minor concern here is that his teammates dont seem to looking after him quite as much as we are used to seeing.

Paul Chapman: Chappy was back with avengence last week with a whopping 130. After what I would think was a rostered 2 week break for Chappy he is looking good to finish off the year (fingers crossed). He has averaged 119 for the year and has the underrated label of duel position player. $459,600 with a BE of 114.

Leigh Montagna- With 3 lots of 125+ scores in the last month, Monts is looking good for the run into finals. His average for the month is 115 which is super impressive considering that includes an injury affected 65. Priced at $459,500 has a low Be of just 80. Another beauty of the Monts pick is that the number 1 opposition taggers seem to go to Nicky Dal more often than not.

Other notable metnions to discuss: Matthew Boyd, Lenny Hayes, Brendon Goddard, Luke Hodge.

Downgrade (keeper) options.

These trades are to allow you enough cash to upgrade a Ziebell for example.

Scott Thompson- I talked Scotty up a couple of weeks ago, only to have him injured on 27 against the Hawks down here in Lonny. Well, still carrying that 27, his month average is 97, which shows you the kind of form he is in for that price. Last week he was at his best for 146 which was wis second 140+ in the last 4 games. $343,300 and a BE of 41.

Chris Judd- After a massive start to the year, Juddy had dropped off the boil slightly making him a perfect downgrade target. 99 last week showed that his form is still good and he his carrying a 106 average for the year. Cops a tag but is starting to get more help from his teammates. $391,000 and a BE of 107.

Andrew Carrazzo- Need alot of cash? well Carrots could be the man for you. He is a proven DTer that is capeable of big scores. The last month has seen him tagging which has caused his price to a low $317,200. He averages a respectable 90 and if by chance he is freed up, will average 100 again.

Brent Stanton- After a huge start to the year Stants has had his price heavily affected by a few hard tags. Experience tells us that he can score big 150+ scores but you need to be prepared to take a few 70′s along the way as well. For that price, anybody averaging 101 is a bargain, especially if it gives you the coin for a tasty upgrade womewhere else. $359,700 and a BE of 120.

There are plenty more out there guys, but I’m hella busy at work so please discuss other options in the comments. Cheers, destROY.

Good write up Roy!

Mitchell’s hand has really thrown a spanner in the works with my team ‘Mitcham Milfhuntas’.
I have a ‘must win’ game in my league and plenty of trades up my sleeve, but I dont wanna get rid of Sammy.
Armstrong can cover him, but I really need the win and every point counts!

On top of that, my opponent is my room mate (pretty much rivarly round in the homestead), loser does the dishes for a week!!!

Should I keep him? or Who can fill his boots?

the 5th piece of bad news is that i also have l.davis who is also out now. 2 trades and still 2 zero’s haha. this is the lowest point in destROY’s history. the ironic thing is acatually have a full backline this week for the first time since round 1…… the only spot i dont need cover haha

just not sure if it would be a wast of trade goin barlow to chapman or montanya just think they will both be rested be for the finals & thats gona hurt if i’m in the dt finals in the comin wks. so with howlett named might give him a game for barlow & sit back & wait for all you’s to have a gun sittin on the bench in the big game.

  My thoughts are St Kilda won’t (hopefully) be silly enough to rest so many players this year. Last year they were flying and rested all their guns round 19, lost rounds 20 and 21, almost lost the prelim, and got done in the big dance. So maybe they won’t be so keen to rest players this year? That’s why I’m picking up Monty!

Personally I’m going Barlow for Corey. I dont see him getting a rest as he needs game time!

    No question he is great DTer when fit, just saying there is considerable risk as he has played one game back from 9 weeks off with an injury that initially sounded like a weekly thing.
    Will his knee cope with the workload of weekly games??? I reckon ANY soreness he gets over the next few weeks and he will be rested as a precaution.

here’s my chance to get another top 5 mid. i’ve already got bartel, hayes, boyd, stanton and mitchell. i’ll probably be going to montagna but he’s a chance of getting rested during the finals. swannie is another possibility, but i’m hoping to save that cash for the upgrade to voldt later.

Straight swap for montags in DT but if i can swear for a moment and mention that “other” game SC.

What do people think of bringing in Chapman into the mids so that i can DPP him with o,keefe or Pav. Problem is i will need to downgrade/upgrade to make that possible, whereby I can just do a straight swap to monty or juddy.

    That’s why I rate Boyd as the better option out of him and Monty as Monty will probably be rested (round 19/20) where as Boyd won’t (hopefully). Monty will probably score better but the easy run home is a bad thing as it gives Saints a chance to rest players during DT finals

Have decided to go Barlow –> Monty.

I see Jarryd Blair is getting a second game…hopefully he has a pearler and gets a 3rd game next week…if he does, I’ll downgrade Bustanutt and upgrade one of my many dud FWDs next week (incl Porppoise, BitchCock, Twatts, Phil Davis). Though Porps got some time in midfield last week and hit 99 so hopefully Craig realises that was a good move and repeats.

i have the obvious issue of barlow and ziebell out for the year. only 5 trades left

my current thinking is barlow – montagna, maguire down to strijk. i would then upgrade gysberts or JKT to pavlich next week. this give me the DPP in both forwards and backs and cover. i could throw goddard back and move pavlich in mids, or pavlich forward and not have to play gumby.

making my last trade today. its a depressing thought. went nuts with trades very early in the season due to some terrible pick ups at the start of the year. my prime example here being joel macdonald. anyway im bringing in monty due to a balance of durability and scoring power. we all know gaz will miss 1 or 2 games before finals and with 0 trades left that just wont do!!!

Getting Ablett in over Montagna/Goddard. Geelong are soming back to full strength, Corey/Ottesn back. He will be protected more, should find some of his so called lost form soon enough. Ablett also played 4/4 dream team finals (rounds 18-22) last year. Did not get rested….

    If he doesn’t reaggravate his injury. Dangerous to pick up blokes who have missed large parts of season already with “lingering” injuries, (eg Bower, Gram, Corey) IMO.
    Would want to see at least 2 or 3 games in a row from them……..

re: the corey trade – i like it, but depends on how many trades you have left. if you’re essentially all-in, like me (2 left after barlow) then i don’t think you can take the risk (i’ve finally settled on boyd). however if you still have 4-6 trades after this one and have a fairly complete team, i reckon he’s worth the speculation. gun DTer.

I have 2 broken legs (Barlow and Ziebell) and I dont have Swan or Ablett in my mids but am still travelling well in my league and feel if i dont get wither in come finals i will regret it bad (5 trades left)

Option 1:
Ziebell to R.Henderson which will leave me with $580k in the bank. Not too confident with Henderson but at least I can swap him and P.Davis (DPP) in my backline come finals if any injuries occur and im low on trades.
Barlow to Swan.

Or

Option 2:
Barlow to Ablett
Ziebell to Dangerfield

I also looked at the following options available to me which i might also go with:

• Pavlich / J.Kelly
• Pavlich / S.Black
• Cross / T.Cloke (COL) don’t like but leaves me some cash in bank
• Cross / M.Stokes (GEE)
• Cross / Sylvia
• K.Simpson / Sylvia
• M.Murphy / Sylvia
• Hayes / Roughead (HAW)
• Gibbs / Roughead (HAW)
• Cross / Goodes
• M.Murphy/ Goodes
• K.Simpson / Goodes

There are some damaging/dangerous options here but most of these options don’t leave me with any cash in the bank, but im willing to take that option.

Any help here would be priceless…cheers guys + im versing one of my arch rivals

  if you have cover for ziebell this week, then id wait a week and trade in L Davis when he returns … similar average … more chance of improving to a 75+ average …. and you will bank some cash …

Barlow to Swan will be more damaging than Ablett. Henderson could score as well as Dangerfield ( havent been following either). I dont really understand how you can have 580k with Zieball to Henderson
and only be able to go Kelly/Pav or Cross/Goodes (best 3rd options) with your current cash.
I think you are much safer to bring in Kelly Pav for Barlow/Zieball considering you will only have 3 trades left and not much security in Henderson

Tossing up between Ablett/Chapman/Corey. Now normally now I’d go when in doubt pick the Cat but as you can see there is a problem with that.

Corey – Unique Option. However there is the injury risk BUT he could have been over that a long time ago and Geelong didn’t want to take any risks by playing him before the spilt round. However we just simply dont know

Chapman – Mr +99. He will averae a 100 for sure but will he get rested. However he has DPP. So I can swap him into my forward line which has very good bench cover in Hitchcock (who’s covering for Brown atm) and Gumby

Ablett – Proven Star however he could get rested and Im sure his got the beaches of the GC on his mind. He could be just in a form slump or he could have GC on his mind. He probaley does so Gazza looks unlikely. And I cant see him getting 130+ again

Will probaley go with Corey

      Hopefully when Stevie J and Mooney are back he wont have to spend as much time in the fwd line. Also with Corey back he will help with a lot of the blocks around the packs.
      
      I would be surprised if he doesn’t avg over 105 for the remainder of the year
