The Plus Four: Round 11

A week is a long time in Dream Team. After last weekends sub-1900 score, I was ready to pull the pin and start planning for 2011. But after a decent bounce back score of 2245, my passion for the game is back… and the Warne Dawgs are ready to be a force in the 2nd half of the season.

WE’RE AT THE  HALFWAY MARK OF DT2010

I can’t believe we are already here, but on the completion of Round 11, we have now seen the front half of the season finish… ready to smash it up in this all important 2nd half of the season. This is a good time to reflect on what has gone right, what has gone wrong and all of thos ‘what ifs’ that people pose when thinking about their teams. Over this week we’ll be looking back at 2010 so far. Stay tuned and make sure you have your input.

GIA AND HEATER, YOU’RE TEAMMATES

I didn’t get a chance to watch the Sunday twilight game between the Magpies and the Dogs, but from listening to the radio and following the live scores on FanFooty, it was terrible to see Heath Shaw and Daniel Giansiracusa sucking so bad. Gia was doing the whole forward tag thing on Heater, and we know that usually ends in disaster! Thank god they had decent last quarters or we’d be in some shit! But it makes it hard to swallow when they should know they are teammates and maybe should still try to get the ball, even if it is to let the other tackle them.

BIT OF INJURY CARNAGE THIS WEEKEND

The split round in a couple of weeks needs to come quickly for some players (and coaches) for a bit of a break . I am tipping there will be a few players who will be in doubt or definitely not playing next week. The fantasy relevant dudes to worry about are Phil Davis (concussion), David Hille (hamstring), Shaun Higgins (ankle), Brent Stanton (late withdrawal – back), Matt Maguire (foot)… among others. Be on the lookout for the injury lists this week and any other news.

MRP WILL SCRUTINISE A FEW OF OUR PLAYERS

We’ve all probably got at least one player from this weekend that will be ‘investigated’ by the Match Review Panel. Lenny Hayes ‘slapped’ his teammate Webberley on Friday night. He has carryover points, but he better get off! Jarrad Waite could be in trouble for his charge on Bate, but Roy assures me there is nothing in it. Still he had a nice 119! Aaron Sandilands massive 211cm frame won’t have too much of a case to answer for with a charge. Hopefully. James Podsiadly had an errant elbow on Saturday night that may be looked at along with teammate Corey Enright who bumped Adam Selwood high. Jarrad Grant will get weeks according to m0nty from FanFooty for punching Reid in the guts.

TRADES ARE RUNNING OUT, TEAMS ARE GETTING SET

I put this poll up on the sidebar over the weekend, and it looks as though trades are running out. I think the main reason for that is that we’ve been able to set our teams a lot quicker than normal. If you still have some upgrades left in you, there are some falling premiums worth jumping on. The most popular trade this week will be to downgrade a midfield rookie (basically anyone) to Jordan Gysberts. I think I’ll be using my 14th trade just to get some cash in the bank and just have it sitting there to help with any injuries I might cop over the last 11 rounds… and also, he is going to be a more secure bench player than Ben Howlett (and Luke Shuey). If you’re looking for a dude to upgrade, Gary Ablett has got himself under $500K and with a breakeven of around 150, he might drop again! Pounce!

CALVIN’S CAPTAINS DOMINATED

I’m sure we’ll hear all about it on Wednesday, but Calvin was awesome this week with his picks. There were plenty of high scorers, but some massive ones were there to nail too. Well done Calvin! Click here to read last weeks CCs.

DEE TEE TALK DEBUTS… AND LOSES US MONEY

Yep! We had been looking forward to Dee Tee Talk‘s first race on TV trying to make the final at Warnambool on Saturday. We had a few beers, watched Carlton win and then chucked out hard earned dosh on our sure thing that was paying $1.20 earlier in the day. So we huddled around the TV at the Commercial Hotel and then it wasn’t even shown. Was on Sky 2 apparently, so we missed it anyway… and then heard she came 2nd last. I guess that’s not as bad as last, but anyway. Hopefully she learns a bit from her first real run and comes back bigger and better. Stay tuned!

WE’RE ALL IN THE 2100+ CLUB THIS WEEK

After a terrible Round 10, we’ve come back much better this week. Our league is heating up with teams scrambling for a spot in the 8. It’s touch and go at the moment for myself, Calvin, Chopper and Chook. But, the cream will rise to the top… I hope!
