Just so that you are aware, we have decided to keep our video as good as it can be (and fresh this year because we are hella busy) we’ll be doing it every two weeks. Hopefully it makes for better viewing. In the week that we don’t do an episode, we’ll be doing the Live Podcast on Thursday nights – which will then be up after that for download!

  We usually film on Monday nights. YouTube has a 10minute limit, therefore the Thursday night Live Podcast thing wouldn’t work – it’s too long. However, that isn’t a visual thing (even though seeing Roy’s beautiful face would be nice for the hour). We try to keep that as a ‘radio’ version… with heaps of info!

  If you want some bench fodder who will play every game and get you 50′s, then Watts is a good call. For job security, he will be the best bet out of a lot of people (along with Wonaeamirri – but he’s got a risk with his body).

  Playfair is a spud, however if Bradshaw is out for the next 4 – 6 he could be a lock at full forward, however im not sure what the go is with Jess White.
  
  Personally i would spend the extra $40 k on jack watts, he is looking the goods.
  
  Im thinking J. Watts for gumby, then kennelly for Sam Fisher… any thoughts??

  Juddy is a champion don’t get me wrong but when it comes to dream team hes not a superstar, this year however he has started very well (-4 rounds with susp.) I don’t think juddy can keep that form up for the year as he has to work for his points alot harder than ablett does. Having said that juddy is about 80g less (with abletts drop) so its a tough call. Personally i would go with ablett as it enables you to put him captain doubling his points which will win you many games.

Was thinking this through the other day and think it might have the potential to give players with a realistic chance of going far in the comp the edge over more conservative rivals (or completely f**k them up in which case take this advice at your own risk). I’m sure I’m not the only one to suggest this but just thought I might ignite some debate.

Has anyone considered downgrading their mid rookies (people stuck with Banner, JKT or Moles might be interested) to dirt cheap DPP’s such as Dylan McNeil ($77800 MID/ FWD), Nicholas Winmar ($89500 MID/FWD) or Rhys Healey ($94500 MID/ FWD) who will never get a gig but could then be swapped with premium dpp players such as Pavlich, Chapman, ROK, Didak or Higgins from your foward line if you require a midfield sub (obviously you would require a suitable forward bench, but if you didn’t have one of the likes of Peterson, Gumbleton or Hitchcock you wouldn’t need this edge because you have chosen shit forward rookies and would hence probably not have a realistic chance of going far anyway).

In my case I could downgrade both Martin and Moles to McNeil and Winmar (would gain me $239200) whose cash I could then inject into both Fyfe (once he matures after his 99 this week) and someone like Maguire (if you have secure defensive bench cover) into a premium forward such as Pav, Dids or Stevie J and a premium back such as Scotland, Gilbert or Fisher.

There are obviously a lot of pros and cons, such as what would happen if you had injuries/ omissions in both the forwards and the mids, but just though I might try and get some opinions.

  there is no clear choice who to pick up. Armstrong looks the best but if he dosen’t get a game this week i might go to McNeil as i have playfair and hitchcock and alot of DDP forwards in my team.

  My point is its too early in the season to trade for $77,000 guys. Thats a tactic which should be usued in finals or with your last trades!

    Also means you need playing fwd rookies and generally mid rookies have the highest scoring potential. I’ve considered this myself but it may end up meaning you have to play a gumby rather then a Martin and as dissapointing as Martin has been I’d rather have his score. Not saying this is the worse idea but if you had he choice between a nonplaying dpp rookie or a playing single position rookie choose the playing one.

      I agree Joker, having Martin is definately more secure than Gumbleton (although saying that Gumby has a higher top score than Martin) but imo I think having premiums like Pav and Gilbert might ease the pain of playing Gumbleton on the field. As I said, it is definately risky, would take some balls (and possibly a few sleepless nights) and might not be necassary this early on in the comp as tkol said, but I think swallowing Gumbleton’s average 40-50 as opposed to Martins 50-60 might be worth the extra points these premiums will bring in.
      
      It’s up to the individual but think it might become increasingly tempting to a lot of people towards the pointy end of the season or those, like myself, who want their side cemented as soon as they can to take maximum advantage of their premiums.

  Like anything, it’s still going to boil down to LUCK!
  And this year, forwards haven’t exactly been scoring consistently, e.g I’d much prefer Howlett’s 93 compared to Didak’s 79.
  I’ve currently got Ladson on mid bench with Howlett.
  So yeah, if for example, last week both Ablett & Swan were rested/injured for a week, I could have played Howlett(93), swapped Ladson with Goddard,(using DPP,) and sub Ladson with Hunt(91) and obviously Ablett and Swan on bench with Nason emne.
  OR I may have played Nason(46) and had Hunt as emerg!
  So yeah, LUCK will be the key Factor, in my humble opinion!
  HAVING said that, my team is screwed anyway, probably for picking hacks like Ladson in the first place, but seriously, I’m gonna keep him permanently on mid bench, and Hunt permanently on def bench and see if DPP helps me avoid the dreaded DONUT!
  Atleast, Ladson may possibly gets games again, but going for rookies with no or little hope of playing is WAY too risky, considering the player you intended to DPP them with is out injured/rested/suspended.

    I have Tippett on my forward bench… and although a SPUD of the highest magnitude, gets a regular game and has the potential to get a 60-70 score.
    
    i can DP Tippett with Lobbe, so Tippett effectively covers my forward and ruck benches.
    
    i have Gary Rohan on my mid bench, with Pav, Didak, Higgins and O’Keefe in the forward line. If i get a midfield injury one of these guys can cover and i can put Rohan on my forward bench and Tippett onto the field…
    
    It basically works out that Tippett is on my bench and covering mid, ruck and forward….

I reckon Ablett is injured.
He has 2 scores below par of what he has been doing previously. He has worn long skins (when I say long I mean up to his knees not half way up his quad like normal) past 2 weeks (hammy). Also he has handballed more often as well with 15kicks-17handballs last week and 9kicks-22handballs the week before. This suggests that he doesn’t want to kick with his hammy. I may be wrong because its just an observation.

  Oh, and in response to Shaun Dawgs on Ablett, I was at the game last week and Gaz is either injured or else he decided that he no longer wants to work hard, unlikely I think.
  He was my Captain of course, so I was watching him closely. He hardly had a man play on him at all but was still unable to get the ball as much as you’d expect. He didn’t run hard, and didn’t demand the ball, such that he was often ignored as an option to dish off the usual easy handball receive.
  
  So I’d say injured. Fingers crossed he recovers ok.

Thoughts on Gumby to Playfair??

i know its being sorta discussed above.. but consider that my only options are in his price range or below (ie. no Jack Watts option). there has been talk of Nathan O’Keefe.. and I know everyone was keen on Danny Hughes until last week.

I basically need the player most likely to play most games. I know Playfair has proved himself to be a dud time and time again.. but with Jono Brown looking to miss a few in the very near future and with Bradshaw out I think he’s my best option.

Anyone care to share their opinion??

    I’ve used a few too many trades (13) already…. but these last 2 will see my team locked as follows for the season with 5 trades saved for injuries.
    
    Here is what my team will look like:
    
    Backs: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Carrots, Duffield, Hargrave, Waters (Webberley, Davis)
    Mids: Swan, Bartel, Montagna [in for Martin], Mitchell, Watson, Barlow (Howlett, Shuey)
    Rucks: Sandilands, Cox (Warnock, McNamara)
    Fwds: O’Keefe, Gia, Pavlich, Brown, Didak, Franklin, Pods (GUMBY > PLAYFAIR/HUGHES/OTHER, Rockliff)
    
    So the only question here is who to trade for Gumby for under 110k? I’m looking for job security as the most important aspect of the decision and not considering Jack Watts cos he puts Montagna just out of my price range.

  My bench is gumby and rockliff and i need to keep rockliff. Im hoping Playfair is selected again and Bradshaw is out for a few months! Nath O Keefe is real scarey. I dont know too much about him, he doesnt look like a reliable sub later in the season when reliable subs count!

      Thanks guys, looks like I can rid the equation of O’Keefe. I’m about 90% sure I’ll go with Playfair unless someone offers up another good rookie… I can’t think of anyone else except for Hughes, but it looks unlikely that he’ll get a call up anytime soon.

When I rechecked DT again around midnight Sunday, after the countback I lost Eliminator by 2. First time I checked must have incl Emergency for Kennely’s frickn 0.

Incredible that I gave trading so much thought last week, passed on Enright as I wanted someone different in Russel and was $3k short, decided to wait 1 week and hope that Kennelly could break even and play it from there.

So costs me the Eliminator and he’s dropped 25k. My team is only 3 players short of an allstar team and I’m out of the Eliminator. Soooooooooo mad.

You just have to wait, chances are that rookie will hover around that price for a while. Josh Hunt is an example, I traded him when I needed the cash and he had “peaked” but look at him now. I have no regrets as I saw a great downgrade in Silvagni but he’s worth anextra $20k now.

On the flip side if a great rookie (A) comes up it might be in your best interest to milk a rookie (B) early and miss out on the potential $30-40k from rookie B, so that you can cash in on rookie A down the track.

Very much a juggling act, decisions need to be made with some forward thinking.

Boys that is the first ep of DT Talk I have watched, good stuff!!

After some feedback on my initial thoughts for this round. I have Kennelley so that is a factor but my bench cover is solid with Hunt/Webberley and my fwd cover is Gumby/P Davis. My mid is settled on field with my worst being Cooney, bench is weak with Howlett/Schuey though:

I have $144k in the bank and 11 trades remaining. Do I go

a) Gumby > Playfair? take the cash and one of J Brown/Hall to Didak/O’Keefe/Goodes and some cash in bank
b) Brown > O’Keefe/Goodes/Didak & Kennelley>S Fisher with stuff all cash reserve
c)Gumby> Watts and sit on Kennelly/Brown for now given I have adequate bench cover

Ball to Montagna this week???? or too much of a sideways trade? the way i see it. Ball was a mid priced pick and Montagna was a premium. a few bad games has brought his price down and a few good games has bought Balls price up. Now I can trade?

  Swan may be having a bit of surgery in the immediate future. I traded for Montagna last week after spending 3 weeks coveting Hayes. I wish I had gone Hayes for the feelgood factor.

      Yeah you’re right. I just prefer players that rely less on cheap possessions (this is no slight on Montagna by the way…he’s a receiver because he’s a great kick and a good carrier). I don’t know how it’ll work out this year. All the Saints mids have to be at their best this year to win games as we saw last week – when the midfield sputtered about they were getting beaten (by West Coast! no less haha). The stats say Montagna but I’m not sure.

        I might hold onto my trades and assess my team next week (Brennan’s and Higgin’s injuries, Brown and ROK’s form). Clueless on what to do with Brown?? Thoughts??

        Yeah that might be the best idea. Clearly a fully fit Dane Swan is the man you need. No one is giving me the shits more than Brown and I tend to trade shit givers. I’m double-trading this week (Kennelly for C Heath and Gumby for Didak) so I’ll reassess what to do with him the following week. It’s either Brown or Duncan then and I could well just decide to throw the rule book out the window and keep Duncan.

  Im liking the price of Dal Santo for his Average but not consistent enough also, Mitchell is a good option! Dont fancy Gibbs as he is playing more back because of Walker’s Injury IMO. and Cooney ….. Meh

Thought about this a lot in the last couple of hours….can’t afford Brennan to be on my bench for 4 weeks more. ROK and hopefully Brown will come good. Higigns should be back this week and I reckon Balla with some easy opponents comign up can play out the year as my 7th forward.

Finally got to watch the vid…great stuff.

Tough decision with Kennelly…yeah he’s not gonna play for a few weeks, but I have cover and Webberley is doing allright to come off the bench.. Meanwhile my FWD line is still rooted (BitchCock, Gumby, Phil Davis, Porpoise, RockyCliff, Hall are the ones giving me grief).

Will be interesting to see how Hall goes this week given Jeff Gieschens comments…will he get more free kicks from the umps? Will the Dons go easy on him for fear of getting free kicked?

Hope so cos I’m stuck with him for the season.

  Most will be looking to trade out Kennelly – but he’s not playing this week so his value won’t drop. So I would put in Silvagni.
  
  Who are your other upgrade options? Zeibell?
  
  Maybe trade Martin and upgrade Zeibell (both have B/Es about the same as their weekly average)
  
  Or downgrade Zeibell/Martin to upgrade Ball with some spare dosh to upgrade Kennelly next week.
  
  If you downgrade Zeibell you’ll get an extra $50K. The upside is you have 2 playing bench players in the forward line.
  
  In the midfield if you downgrade Martin you will have no bench players.

Going to be making two trades this week (I have 12 left). I have to win my league match this week (for boasting reasons). I was planning on bringing Ablett in but now I have to fix up Kenelly. Problem is my opponent has Ablett and will most likely be his captain.

I’ve got plenty of cash saved up (intended for Ablett), so here’s what I’m thinking:

Kenelly to either Goddard, Lake, Fisher, Hargrave or Scotland

With the money left over (depends on who I trade in for Kenelly) I’ll upgrade Martin to either Montagna, Dal Santo, Goddard, Goodes or Hayes.

What do people think of those guys?

Would be nice to have a bit of money left over to get Ablett in a few weeks but I can’t see that happening. I’m really looking for a quick boost so I can win this week… unless people think that downgrading Kenelly and trading in Ablett would be the best way to boost my score?

  GAJ have had 2 ordinary games by his standards and is around the same price he started off the season with. Has a B/E of 198 so price will drop even further. So if you are trying to save money – wait 2 weeks. Chances are you’ll save $50K or so – but you’ll miss out on his scores.
  
  Kennelly won’t drop in price for the next 4 weeks. With Goddard having a B/E of 98 his price won’t move too much if you waited another week. So this is a good trade in terms of points and money.
  
  If you want points from GAJ – he’s playing Melb, WCE and Ess in the next 3 weeks.
  
  If you want points from Goddard – he’s playing Ade, Rich and Freo.
  
  GAJ – av 107
  Goddard – av 128
  
  Verdict: GAJ for short term gains – but trade in Goddard this week and you should have a cheaper GAJ in 2 weeks

Was going to try and boost my struggling forward line this week but have had a look and with the trades that I sorta have to make I cant find anyone this week that fits well this week so thought I might finish off my midfield with IMO the best value DTer this week instead. SO

T. Kennelly ——> C. Heath

my defense will then be : Hodge;Enright;Carrazzo;Hargrave;Shaw;Gilbee;Maguire…..Bench; Silvagni, Heath

Martin ——> Dal Santo

my midfield will then be : Ablett;Swan;Barlow;Pendles;Goddard;Dal Santo….Bench: Howlett; Armstrong

that will leave me 8 trades and around 120k in the bank. Will then over the next month use (barring LTI suspension) maximum 3 trades to strengthen my forward line and try and see the last 8-9 weeks of the season out on 5 trades……Not perfect but I think the best plan????????????? Thoughts would be greatly apprectiated….

Gday all, I need to fix a few things in my team and i cannot find any opinion regarding who the better downgrade option is:

Down to heath in the back or down to playfair in the front. both are cheap and willpossibly get a few games. Both downgrade enable me to upgrade kenelly to someone worthwhile, unfortunately it wont be for someone more than 406k but still.

So playfair or heatrh? opinions?

  Neither is a good option because job security. Tadhg is out for 4 weeks. Bradshaw for 3 weeks. So choose your upgrade carefully. Interestingly Bower is 1 week away so you might consider him as a cheap upgrade

So warnie, your the reason the rule got changed!!!!

I loved it last year pendles (my captain last year) went off with a 0, my emergency counted and my vice scored 100+. Was then listening to everyone winge about it but i was over the moon.

And just to make it better, i had tadgh on my bench last round so his donut didnt count. loving life!!

Is Yarran-> Browny to finish my team a good trade considering Browns recent form. Should I get him this week or wait for him to drop in price. I can only buy him with 1k to spare. BTW Browns BE is 105 while Yarrans is 93
