Marc’d Man
Squark squark, you hear that? its a seagull circling a chip. A chip named Marc Murphy. Murph continues to evelop into a DT gun, and has captain potential. Basically what im trying to say is that he is a keeper, and would not look out of place in the overall winners team. Marc is priced at a premium $450,000 this year due to hs average of 102 last year which included 18 scores over 90. Now rather than picking up Marc now, a round 8 trade in sounds on the cards due to an interupted pre season caused by hip problems. Have a look at this:
“At the start of the season, at least, I think I’ll be used in more short, sharp bursts and once my fitness is back around the mark I’m sure it will be back to normal,” Murphy told afl.com.au.
“I’ll be managed a little bit more at the start of the season than I have been in the past. I’ll probably get rotated a bit more than I usually would to keep me a bit fresher rather than staying out on the ground for extended periods.
“I probably won’t be as fit as I was at the start of last season, but I’m sure I’ll get it back a few games in.”
This means that Marc will not only be copping the number 1 tag for the first 3 weeks with Juddy out, but he will have limited time, limited fitness, limited touch, limited DT POINTS. There is no way Murph will reach his break even on a consistant basis for the first few weeks which means his price will drop nicely, only to have his form return and …………….. snap, GOTCHA,

Yeah was already thinkin he would be a good midseason addition… Will be watching his BE’s come round 10 or so
Rd 6-8 when those cows start to mature
This is why i love Murph, hes awesome at DT being very reliable, then when hes going to be crap for a bit… he tells you! If only Hodge had of let me know last year…. none of this sneaky leaving yourself out of your own DT crap.
Yep, Great call I reackon! With be 2010s Hodgy I reackon (except we hope he doesn’t re-injure the way Hodgy did)!
gumblecock is fucked
nice pondering there guys. I think these type of Mid season improvers are really going to shape this season. If your not on the right one at the right time it could cost you dearly. There are just so many of them, even slightly earlier than round 8. Cash cows- Wonnamerri, ladson, palmer, Dick, wells and even rodan to an extent and then the the gun keepers – Marc Murphy, Cox, Stevey J and even Lenny hayes if he suffers to heavily from the hot spot in his foot.
There are so many to choose from this year you just gotta time it right.
will either yarran or watts get a lot of games this year??
Yarran should do but Watts is not going to be any good at DT for at least the next two years. Even after that I have reservations.
Does Gibbs pick up a few more touches with Murphy on rotation?
Had him every year, DT gun. Will not be picking him up at the start though and waiting until he drops in price.
Peoples thoughts on Boak? Pretty expensive, but like a fine wine is getting better with age.
boak is overrated
Right on Royboy!
Monitior this puppy for sure… squawk squarrrrkkkk
This may be a reason not to pick up Gibbs. If there is plenty to suggest (including from Marc himself) that he will not be as dangerous in the first few rounds then surely smart coaches could put a tag on Gibbs instead of Murphy, knowing Murphy will be limited by recovery anyway.
Or they could stick a cheap tag on Murphy as he won’t as easily be able to break it and thus take him out of the game completely.
Maybe an upgrade from Clinton Young when his price peakes in round 8, then I will be able to afford Marc Murphy.
Clinton Young probably won’t even play in the first 8 rounds by the sound of it, he’s still not training with the main group and is only making slow progress.
yes very good tip, just cant wait for the NAB cup to make up my team.
is Fantasy Freako doing the newsletter again?
I hate this. Everyone will have Murphdog now! ..”18 scores over 90″ is a huge stat!
Marc him in (for round 10ish)
And what everyone’s thoughts on Graham Polaxed?
He’s on the rookie list
I was on the exact train of thought when i saw that article the other day. Good post up. At this stage of the year we are usually finding players who are a lock in our initial squads, but i think Murphy is a lock to upgrade to.
I got Selwood ahead. Murph, as everyone else said, is more of a mid-year pick-up, due to form from injury. If he doesnt do well his price will decrease heavily, and hopefully he does. Nonetheless, Murph is now an elite midfielder, both in DT and normal footy.
Please help with my team!!
Defence: carrazzo, Hodge, Gilbee, Ladson, Guerra, Hurley, Kennelly ( Strijk, Carter )
Midfield: b Gibbs, Goddard, j Selwood, b Vince, Palmer, c Young ( J trentgrove, N winmar )
Rucks: Sandilands, Naitanui ( Lobbe, Prato )
Forwards: N Riewoldt, Franklin, Rioli, Wonaeamirri, Tippet, Jurrah, Dangerfield ( Rohan, Weston )
any help would be sweet
Three hawks down back is maybe one too many, and from all reports, Ladson might be struggling to play early in the year and you back reserves don’t look like covering any holes anytime soon. Also, Hurley is not going too well at essendon with the trouble he has been getting in, and there are a lot of good value backs at the moment.
Goddard in the middle is interesting, but money could better spend on a pure midfielder I think.
Natinui in the ruck is not a good idea. He might look good on a field, but his DT potential doesn’t look too good.
Wona hasn’t had a great pre season from reports, not too sure about Jurrah, but he could be alright. Also the reserves here a looking a little weak.
Hope it helps…
is jarrad blight worth a shot at instead of hurley
Well, a recent article from AFL.com says that he is a possibility of SOME game time this year. I think someone a little more stable would be good. The backline is renowned for the one place that a lot of people burn trades. For someone at or below his price, I guess Scott Selwood, Malkeski or Henderson could be options. But if you are looking for a rookie, Phil Davis or Brad Sheppard look likely.

Sorry mate but i think you have a number of errors in your side. The first thing that you notice straight away is that you have goddard as a midfielder. Thats is not a smart move. The backs are always limited and what you are doing is taking away the best back in the game. By all means select him as a back and then for the same price you can select an absolute elite midfield.
Guerra is very risky for injuries and besides does not get huge scores. I have had him before an whilst he can pull out a big score he can also go missing. Throw in the ups and downs of his scores with injury concerns then he is a no go.
Palmer coming back from a season ending injury is too much of a risk. You can get more bang for your buck elsewhere for the same price.
With the exception of rooey, buddy and maybe tippett your forward line is really bad. Even including buddy you have the mixture there for disaster. Almost all those other players are capable of scores of 30. You need consistency. When choosing a forward line look for players that go through the midfield as well. Players like alan didak. your much better off spending 400k on a gun and 86k on a rookie. Than spending 250k on two average players. IMO
Hope that helps
I’m guessing he has Goddard in mids as a dual position swap option with either Hodge, Ladson, Carazzo or Gilbee?
had him last yr to bad about his preseason. If anyone still needs a league 677389
Brock McLean will rise early without Judd (3 rds) and Murphy being eased into the season. After they are back and firing you’d think that those 2 and Gibbs would cop a tag ahead of McLean…….Hmmmmmm!
Limited pre-season do to OP, worth the risk though.
When will we know if we got into one of the cash leagues?
Has anyone got a email into the cash league yet , just curious to see if i got in ??
nvm just got the email… I’m in the Warnie/Calvin league

You would have the email man , if u dont have a email u didnt make id say
league 1 for me. yewwwwwww
DAM just missed out
was just wondering if the likes of redden (brisbane) raines muston are likely to be in there teams best 22 and can anyone suggest mid value defenders likely to do well less than 300g
preferaby less tha 250 would be better
Redden 80%, Raines will be a few rounds away I think, Muston no idea.
Mid price backs (or cheaper): Kennelly, Josh Hunt, Maguire, Scott Selwood, Everitt, Malceski, Simon Buckley, Schoemakers,
would redden be worth the risk?
shoenmakers as a key defender any risk there?
hadnt considered selwood thanks for the option will look at him.
who is the best choice of a solid midfielder apart from Vince Gibbs or Selwood
Cooney.
how about jimmy bartel
He is always reliable. Cooney is just a bit cheaper and there have been rave reviews about him. Bartel did a great tagging job on Hayes in the GF, so who knows, he might get more jobs like this to take a bit of strain of lingy. We all know that tagging means lower DT scores, but Bartel mananged 16 tackles in that game. Pretty handy.
as a smoky i think brent prismal i believe he will improve on average from last year
pretty sure full pre season for first time in a while as well
Tackles did win him a Brownlow. Atleast his attack at the play anyways.
whats peoples thoughts on Lukas Markovic?
What are yours?
Hey, just wonderin thoughts of this team , feel like its missing something.
Backs : Bock , Hodge, Gilbee, Mattner, Bower, Joel McDonald, Kenelly (Waters, Davis)
Mids: Ablett. Mitchell, Masten, Palmer, Scully, Martin (Trengrove, L.Jetta)
Rucks: Kruzer, Hille (Warnock, Skipper)
Forwards: Voldt, Pavlich, Petrie, Franklin, LeCras, Dangerfield, Burton (Rohan, Gumbleton)
cheers
Yeah it’s missing good players.
Hope that helps.
