Tippett Vs Kreuzer

Kurt Tippett has been all the rave so far in 2010. Freako says: “A star in the making. Jump on!” and he’s probably right! Priced at $319,400 Tippett averaged 73 last year and will only improve in 2010! He’s 201cm and 100kg and he is a unit approaching his 3rd year (ching ching). He played every game in ‘09 playing as a target forward and an fill in ruck! Hence his tag this year of Ruck/Fwd making him a dual possie dude. He will only get better, but would you pick him over the special K……

For me… Nope! It’s Matthew Kreuzer.Freako says: “He’s just 20. He’ll step up even more next year. Pick him… he won’t let you down.” Priced slightly higher than Kurt at $330,500, due to his average of 75 in 2009. The K is spending more time up the field this year, hopefully instead of resting, but I will be honest when I say that this does concern me. Kreuzer has been smashing training and apparently beat the whole team in a bike ride recently… so I hear!

The Verdict

Personally I can not understand how people are using Tippet’s name ahead of Kreuzer’s! Both players are entering their 3rd break out year and the Kruz is a former #1 draft pick who has skills to back it up! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Crows fan! I love Tipps! But as far as DT goes I will be very surprised to see Tipps average more than Kruz in 2010! But Tippett is a dual possie player, so if you are looking at him for that, then go for it, I’ll understand. Tippett averaged 61 in his last 3 of ‘09 and Kruz averaged 84 over his last 3. Tippett scored under 60… 32% of the time last year and Kruz went under that dirty mark just 9% of the time (twice). Look, I know this will spark up something, it just did with me and Warnie, he says Tipps but for me it’s Kruz all the way to the bank on this debate!

  1. Both. Kruzer in ruck. Tippett in Forward line.

But I’d take Kruzer over Tippett if I had to choose a ruck.

  2. 201 cm, 100kg, got skills, who is going to stop that? that being said I’ve got tippet up forward and special K as a ruck lol

  3. actually one of the most pondered choices for me… Kreuzer just infront at this stage, but that could change with the NAB cup

  4. 677389 still spots if you need a league

  5. I have special K and Tippo in the ruck!!!

  6. but Calvin you’ve missed a very good point, kruz will be up forward more this year

  7. .pimp my team PLEASE! 90k left for last mid.

hodge, carrazzo, fisher, mcphee, birchall, kennelly, m.farmer (phil davis, h sheperd)

ablett, hayes, gibbs, cooney, dalziell, trengove (shuey, ?)

  8. What do people think about having both in the ruck??? Is it too big of a risk???

    • I really beleive all ruck combos are risky
It’s gunna be har to get it right, just make sure you have cover
To get it right, means you have guessed really well

    • Monaco, I have both kruez and tip locked in as my rucks. who will improve more does not matter. fact is that both SHOULD improve. in dt (or sc), thats all u can do. locking them in for 20+ games to score 70 ppg+ frees up a lot of cash for the midfield and defence which i think will make or brake a team. PLUS 3rd year rule makes them no brainers. Am I right , am I right, or am I right?

  9. Kreuzer is a lock for me.

    Kreuzer
    Jolly
    (Warnock)
    (Lobbe)

I am sure that is going to be a popular combo.

Also, why not take Skipper instead of Warnock/Lobbe? Considering Hawthorn’s desperate need for a ruckman, hes bound to play.

  10. @ Yo-yo….

You have a poor ruck mate, Hille coming off a knee recon, and Ottens getting old and slow. Yeah they are cheap, but you need to lock and leave your ruck.

Both could get rested at some stage throughout the year, or limited game time….

I’d take come cash out of your Midfield and put atleast one premium ruck in there… Sandi, Clark, Jolly….

  11. Sandilocks
    Kreuzer/Ottens/Seaby

    Warnock
    Lobbe/Skipper

With Tippett in the forward line. That also brings the new double possie rule into play with Lobbe and Tippett both FWD/RUC

  12. trouble is kruez is playing for carlton who are in dire straits and tippet plays for the mighty crows

  13. Ryder is about to go Tick, Tick, “BOOM”

  14. If Kreuzer plays CHF like everyone is saying, he has the likes of Murphy, Judd, Gibbs, Carazzo and McLean delivering it to him lace out, surely must be a lock

  15. Im going tippet at the moment, to much uncertainty clouding kreuzer. He will most likely be playing a new role up forward this year and less ruck time if warnock and hampson are playing. Tippet on the other hand doesnt need to ruck as seen this year, with him dominating when used forward. At the moment tippet looks the better choice in my opinion, just because we have seen what he is capable of in the forwards compared to Kreuzer. Still we have the NAB cup to get a glimpse into what both will be able to achieve this year, so i could end up with both of them in my initial squad, which probably isnt a bad thing.

  16. Like many, I have Special K in the ruck and Tipp up front, especially when Tipp could be swapped with Lobbe if anything goes wrong in the ruck division as I am looking at a cheaper onfield ruckman such as Hille or Ottens. Although the big Burger up at Brisbane is a possibilty too…
But to answer the intention of the article if I had to chose just one of these players, it would be Kruise, but not by much.

  17. I’ve got both.
    Kruz
    Tippet
    Warnok
    Trengrove

I put Lobbe up forward so if i get an injury up there Tippet can play up forward for me.

Warning Mark Williams said Westoff… yes Westoff is now the #2 ruck so Lobbe may not get a game. If so Skipper is in.

    • He didnt say Westhoff is now the second ruck, he said Westhoff performed well as a ruckman in their recent intra-club match and is an option. Lobbe also played well during the match so he hasnt done his chances of nailing a spot in the side any harm.

  18. KRUZ IS GONNA B A GUN FORGET ABOUT IT

  19. Special K in the ruck with Tippett in the forward line for me.

Other rucks are Ottens and Nock/Lobbe

I did read on afl.com that Justin Westoff was put in the ruck for a while during the interclub match and did really well. “They both performed really well” Some assistant coach said about both Lobbe and Westoff.

It might scare me out of him, for Skipper, but we’ll wait to see NAB cup how they go.

(Sorry for repeating you there Matt34)

  20. I had K-dog in the ruck last year – was great value, I reckon he’ll improve a bit but i can see better value, still – i’ll be keeping an open mind if he rips it up in the NAB cup. Tippett nah.

  21. anyones thoughts on taking mitch clark or know what the lions are doing with ruck stocks this year?
with L-Burger and Charman back will we no see those high scores??

  22. krueze locked in ruck just need to decide where to play tippet if in ruck and get either brennan or harvey in forward (plus 10-20k) , if i play him forward then have H-Mac in ruck and dual postion advantage
    what do you guys think

  23. Neither,
Kreuzer isn’t worth a ruck as will play forward and not have a big points gain
Tippett isn’t worth it as will play FF and be inconsistent
Much better players in both possies.
You can all quote me on this come September

  24. Both in the ruck!

I have faith in both of these boys averaging 85+ and they have both shown durability so i’m hoping i can just lock em away and forget about em.
I’m guessing Kreuz will do well up forward because he’ll be hard to match up on given his size and athletic ability, he should take 10 grabs a game if the delivery is good enough and if he can slot 2 or 3 goals per game he will definately improve his average.
Tippett is is becoming one of the best power forwards in the game and will only get better. He’s got some of the best hands in the game and he’s a massive unit so he’s gonna be the main target in the forward line and take plenty of grabs. Plus any hitouts he gets when he’s in the ruck will be a nice little bonus to top his score up with.

  25. Kreuzer can suck my balls he is shit

Tippett is a star in the making who can dominate you.

Kreuzer just runs around like a headless chicken

    carlton suck cock too btw

  26. Got them both locked in the ruck, easy choice for me!

  27. @Westy. I agree, Going for proven guns in the ruck to set and forget (Sandi, Clark).

Sure they might improve but if you aren’t going to cash them in then they will need to perform higher than the other guns – can’t see that happening this year.

The 3rd year rule is mainly for midfield, not Rucks/KPP.

I’ll speculate in the midfield where there are players with much more upside to cha-ching with.

  28. I’ve got the big k in the ruck, but I’m trying to decide between 2 of Tippet, Rioli and Gray up forward. What do ya reckon?

    • Gray is Very inconsistant. Tippet or Rioli is a good question though. Personally, I’d choose Tipo. 201cm’s 100kg’s.I believe he has the potential to be another Buddy Franklin (not meaning hes gonna kick 100goals …) but never underestermate the amazing skills of Cyril Rioli.

  29. Rioli is being far too cotton balled by his coaching staff, for my liking.

  30. Personally, I would choose Matthew Kreuzer ahead of Kurt Tippet.. If you have a look at Kurt’s statistics from last year, he averaged 10 disposals, however averaged 72 dream team points at the same time.. I think almost everyone is taking the ‘3rd year rule’ a little too granted.. It doesn’t have to apply to everyone..

I cannot see Kurt improving his points much, I may be wrong though.. In this case I might possibly downgrade to him.. We know he’s a big unit, we know he can play but playing as a Fullforward mostly?.. I thought we didn’t choose Fullforwards in dream team (this rule doesn’t apply to Kurt?) I think he may be a little too inconsistent fo rmy liking. If however Kurt was playing majority at CHF or the Ruck, then it may be a different story..

As for the other big unit (Matthew) who knows how his ‘new’ role will effect his dream team points.. Will it be a little like last year in terms of playing positions?.. Word in the media is that he will play majority in the forward line (if all goes to plan with Warnock). Fevola isn’t there anymore, so they will possibly need to find goals from a few of their players. Yesterday, Jarrad Waite was interviewed and was asked who was going to kick their goals? He answered “We don’t want someone that kicks 80 goals. We want about four or five that’ll kick 30 or 35 goals [each] and make it hard for oppositions to defend us.” (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/89321/default.aspx)

That may be a play on words, or it may be all true.. However anything is possible during a game or throughout the season.. They may target Matthew majority of times or they may not.. Apparently, Setanta is moving to the Forward line this year. Ableit if this is the case, then I would assume Kreuzer would take CHF position (being able to lead up the ground and the wings, because of his big engine he may be able to do this for the majority of the game).. and If this is the case then it may be too good not to get on the ‘big M’.

At the moment I have neither of these big men in my team.. If they were playing majority of the game in the ruck, then I would very strongly think about it.. But still keeping an eye out for both of them.. more so Kreuzer.

Great read by the way, Calvin

    • Cheers mate – thanks for your comment, interesting stuff!
I agree with you all the way

    • In regard to Kurt at FF, what if Walker gets a regular gig? I would suggest his preferred position would be FF putiing Tippett full time at CHF with occasional runs in the ruck (depending on how other Adel rucks go).

With Carlton you have to say there is going to be some experimentation on the forward line. Something special would have to emerge to warrant Kruezer to give up a role that we know he is already good at and likely to get better. But like I said they will experiment so the likely scenario is that he spends less time in ruck and do an average job in the FWD.

On balance I’d say this year there is more up side to Tippett, but I like many others here feel there are better ruck options. I’m thinking sandilands/jolly (lobbe/west) at this point, but far from locked in.

  31. Kreuzer beat the whole team in a bike race!!! what a TANK!! he’s in now.. You can’t stop that face.

  32. haha calvin yes go pies i hate carlton :P

Im putting in hmac and kreuzer with tippy fwd liner

    what will happen who knows

  33. currently looking at cox and clark in ruck with warnock and lobbe as emergency any thoughts

also intereted to hear any thought on wether clark will be #1 or moved to new position…i heard rumors he was possibly moving to chb and running off his opponenet…could this be true?

does cox concern anyone with his scoring (price to score ratio)

  34. Pretty Confident with my team this year… finally done some study (along with alot of help from u boys) and got some rookies that will play!!

    B: L.Hodge A.Carrazzo T.Kennelly B.Houli A.Raines R.Ladson J.Hunt
    (B.Sheppard P.Davis)
    C: N.Dal Santo J.Selwood T.Cotchin A.Cooney C.Masten R.Palmer
    (D.Martin T.Colyer)
    R: M.Kruezer S.Mumford
    (R.Warnock M.Lobbe)
    F: N.Riewoldt R.O’Keefe C.Riolo S.Higgins J.Ziebell K.Tippet A.Gray
    (S.Gumbleton L.Tapscott)

    +$12,300

    Questions…
I did have Brent “Boomer” Harvey and Colin Sylvia in my foward line (7 midfielders in my foward line was extremely tempting for me) but after all the talk about tippet and how roo is calving up training with saints I keep changing my bloody team…
Have I got too many players coming off injuries from last season on my team??

Also i havent heard how Rainesy is training with the lions, i did the same thing last season (bargain buy) but broke down on me… costing me shitloads!!!

    • Team looks great man. I’ll have to admitt, i dont know about cooney though. i’d rather someone like dalziell. 334k and avg of 84. remembering that he had injured himself last year but is coming back. Just an opinion. besides that ur team looks great. Good luck ;)

  35. what do you reckon of this team guys struggling with decisions.

backs- goddard carrazzo hodge drum kennelly buckley hunt (trengrove davis)

mids- swan ablett bartel dalzeill parmer trengrove (melb) (morabito shuey)

    rucks- sandilands hille (warnock skipper)

forwards – riewoldt didak higgins medhurst hurley mayne gumbleton (lobbe tapscott)

    and $51,300 left in budget.

    plz help.

    • Backline’s a bit iffy. Only 4 guaranteed starters there. I’d think about downgrading one of your big 3 mids and swapping Drum or Hunt for a premium back.

    • If I were you I’d downgrade one of Ablett or Swan (more likely Swan) to perhaps Selwood or Pendles this move should net you and extra $60 odd thousand, on top of the $51 you already have. Then I’d look at upgrading Drum, Buckley, and Mayne (Scott Selwood seems to be a popular choice down back).
Buckley seems a good choice but there are question marks as to whether he will play immediately, your bench should be good enough to cover for him until he breaks into the team, should you choose to keep him.
Palmer and Hurley may also miss the first few rounds however once again your bench will provide adequate cover.

  36. First of all, yes I am a pies fan. (figure some will not read any further..)
Secondly, I haven’t checked prices so be prepared to ignore.

Josh Frasier, I’ve hated him since he came to the pies as a #1 draft pick but apparently he was recruited to play at full forward.. With Jolly at the pies now, is it possible Frasier could actually not be a hack playing forward?

  37. Tippett for my money, 100%. He will play the exact same role as he did last year, where he spent time in both the ruck and up forward. Whats the difference this year? Well as you said Calvin, its third year break out year. The guy has put on something like 5KG of extra muscle over the summer which means more points in the ruck as he will win more boundary taps and will probably take a few more grabs up forward.

I also reckon Adelaide will go BANG this year and challenge hard for top 4 with all there kids now becoming man. Whilst I reckon Carlton will go backwards. This means more goals, and i reckon a lore more form him.

On the flip side you have kreuzer going up forward which means he will lose a lot of his points from taps. He will be good on the lead but lets be honest there is not much better in the game than fevola and whilst he did produce big scores, there were games when he saw nothing, I think special K will have the same fate in games. Also with Fevola gone the best defnder is always going to go to Kreuzer and whilst i reckon in a few years time this guy will be Dean Cox, this year those gun defeners will eat him up.

Lastly throw in the option that he can go forward as well and its a no brainer if u ask me.

I will be going Jolly/Tippet Warnock/Lobbe. Then I can use tippett up forward come round 20 when chappy is sitting out with his dodgy hamstrings. haha

  38. Hey Calvin,

Where can we get hold of the FREAKO info

  39. im not sold on tippett, too much risk that he will spend all his time at full forward which is not good in DT terms.

kreuzer his much talked about change of role is also a concern. ill monitor his pre season and go from there. has the potential to be a great ruck pick though

  40. Will get both, just not decided yet on both in ruck, or Tippett fwd to have the swap with Lobbe available. Probably depends more on how Lobbe looks in NAB.

If I had to choose, Tippett, because he proved himself last year in the position he’s most likely to play this year.

  41. Why is the Money league forum shutdown guys???? Is this threat over illegal gambling real????

  42. your a fag calvin. Tippet is gonna rip it hard this year.

  43. whos the best dual-position mid under 170k?? please

  44. Hey boys how about a Ablett V Swan Debate. Unlike the guys you have been listing, the two of these players in the same DT side wont happen (in any decent DT side that is) due to price. Will be interesting to see where people are leaning….if at all to any?

Swan is worth more but is durable.
Ablett can produce slighter bigger scores and is cheaper, but injury concerns. Especially considering Geelongs no risk policy.

For me Ill save the few $k and go for the meastro, even though im a pies supporter.

    • I could see decent DT sides with both of these players in them, the 2 midfielders on the top of everyones “to have by the seasons close” list, there will no doubt be people who lock them in early.

I think the guys have been doing a great job of matching up players who genuinely would have people thinking, also players with a thick vein of comparison points.

  45. Calvin – tone down the exclaimation marks. It makes trying to read your articles excruciating.

  46. ah look, its a giant kru tipp (like cue tip)….. yeah neway, ive got both at the moment

  47. Just take both. If they both can average mid 80’s, maybe even pushing 90 then you’re laughing. If not then it’s only about 1 trade to upgrade to a premium ruck.

  48. I need to know Bradshaw or Dangerfield?
