New Year Dream Team Resolutions
We look back on 2009 and try to move on… you know, only one bloke – Team Director – walked away with the prize and the rest of us were left in his wake. Maybe you got a league premiership. Ho hum. It’s the glory of winning the whole competition that most of us aspire to.
So, what did you learn from the year that has passed?
What are your New Years Resolutions?
We don’t care if you want to get fitter, aim to quit smoking or find a new job. We want your AFL Dream Team New Years Resolutions.

I think my real resolution will be to be smart with my trades and ask advice… a couple of trades last year didn’t come off – Jared Brennan and Xavier Ellis – when I was still in the top 20. Oh well. I had to take some risks… maybe some calculated ones would be better.
Oh, and listen to Calvin more with Calvin’s Captains. He knows all.
Yours should be not to pick Jarred Brennan every year!
I think my resolution is that I am not going to pick players to have different side to others. I am also hopefully not going to pick players that have let me down in the past. I know Travis Cloke is going to have a big year one year, but I am done with him!
Lastly, I don’t want to get stuck with to many players from any one side! Although having a few hawks that have done me well from knowing there inside information, I have going to not get caught by that.
Lastly. Ablett for Captain every week next year!
My fake resolution will be not to put players returning from leg injuies (Henshal from last year) in my side. Fake cos I’ve got Palmer, Ladson and Ziebell in my fanplanner side already. My real resolution will be to hold on to my trades and not get sucked in early (Leigh Harding ) like last year.
I never keep my resolutions, so my resolution is to make all the same mistakes as last year.
one word *PATIENCE*
Learn some friken patience, *WHY DOES IT TAKE SO FRIKEN LONG FOR THIS PAGE TO LOAD, GRRRRRRRRR*
Oh and dont drunk trade!!!!!
yeah monaco mine is pretty much dont drunk trade, i get monday tuesdays off and go yeah…stephen milne looked good last week!!! i end up trading in any St Kilda player
Last year was my DT debut year and like many first year coaches I had a terrible starting squad. Next year that will not happen again.
My new years resolution’s DT style are to trade smarter (even though it was my first year as a serious DTer) and also to make sure that I dont disregard the backline as something useless as it almost cost my league (basically start with quite a good backline meaning wont have to use as many trades in that area)
My resolution is to stay away from 30+yo players who have no upside and are more likely to get injuries and to use my trades more wisely.
My DT new years resolution is to make every dollar count. This means i’ll probably be looking into a mid pricer strategy but i still want to get my premiums so they have a bit of upside to them, e.g Gibbs instead of Swan. Oh yea and try and get backmen that can actually play a full season.
My DT New Years Resolution will be not to pick too many players from the one squad.. That’s right im looking at you St. Kilda, FUCK YOU! Cost me my spot in the eliminater with 8 teams left. Although maybe I should just make it my new years resolution to not pick Soft Cocks.
Oh and also not let Warnie kick me out of my spot in the top 100 in the last round
Ablett – Just get him in and put a “C” on him every week!!!
Awesome Answers guys.
My resolution is pick guys who are going to improve not guys like daniel cross who just give you a 90 and frustrate you!
These are some great threads
My resolution would be to pick draftees on the bench or just cheap players who will constantly play and improve with price, then trade them and upgrade to a better player
Pay more attention to the preason training reports and the NAB cup. Dont get sucked into last years scores for players coming off limited preseasons, ie Hodge. Even gun players need some time to get going so look at those fit and firing before round 1.
My NYR is to take a chance on the field with at least two rookies starting e.g. Scully & Trengove instead of on the bench, which cost me trades in ‘09!! can’t wait – bring 2010 DT!!
Also, no trading from rounds 1-5 unless an injury occurs. No Franklin, No Fevola, and most importantly NO JUDDD.
I reckon my starting mid would be Hayes (Definitely), Ablett (Definitely), Pendlebury (Definitely).
They’re the only 3 I really have in mind now. Others would be Colin Sylvia, Brad Green, or Andrew Lovett (just thinking of them).
Anyway guys, i just made an account and I’m really excited, I’ll enter your competitions and leagues and stuff.
Cant wait for Footy to come back next year, BRING ON 2010 DREAM TEAM!!!!!!! watch our for team ‘ The Magpie Prince’ planning on finishing in top 50.
Win that car! Then, get my L plates hehe.
yep, same NYR for me
dont get sucked in bye players who have had a good game or two like i did last year and they where shit when i got them EG like Harding was, and dont waste all off my trades, i have Voltd and Pav but i traded them out just cuz they where going so shit at the start of year!. and good players E.G Swann, Ablett, Volt, Ect to have a bad game then jump on them !,.
Going to do a lot more research during NAB cup & with this website so i can avoid that crazy lock out period and not waste early trades trying to fix the squad because i couldn’t log on
Being a Saints supporter, I have a weird tradition of not selecting too many Saints players. Cost me in 2009, took Selwood instead of Montagna and Cooney instead of Dal Santo. In 2010, I’ll take Saints players if they’re the best on offer.
Two main resolutions this year:
1. Don’t listen to injury rumours the day before the first game of the year and trade out the first player I had locked when I put together my initial team! Re: Ox and Goddard. Bastard!
2. Don’t be overly concerned about having a full side if it means trading an injured gun who then comes back two weeks later and rips out some 100+ scores.
Apart from that, make sure I have 5 or 6 trades coming into finals and get higher than the top 300 ranking I had after round 8.
My New Years Resolution is to quit my job, lived up to the promise on my second day of the year haha good times
My NY’s resolution?……..To eat drink and be scary !! lol
