Deck of Dream Team 2010: Travis Boak
Name: Travis Boak
Club: Part Adelaide
Position: Mid-Fielder
2009 Average/Games: 90.3/18
Predicted 2010 Average: 95
Deck of DT Rating: 10 of Diamonds
Why should I pick him?
Big Trav 4 has progressed into a solid dream teamer since he debuted in 2007. After being selected as a top 5 pick in the 2006 draft the Boakster only averaged a measley 63pts. In the past 2 years however he has developed consistency and more importantly an ability to slut up DT points. Averaging 90.3 points in 2009 the Boakman has stepped up. Scoring 6 triple figure scores with 4 being 119+. Perhaps his most impressive trait is that he is only scored below 60 twice.
Why shouldn’t I pick him?
The Travman did pick up a knee injury in round 11 which made him miss a total of 4 games, so is his durability a question mark. Last year was his 3rd year in the big league so therefor has he reached his peak in terms of DT price an therfore value? If you’re after someone to make money and maybe be valued below what they can get to, then maybe the Smokester is not the man for you.
Final thoughts.
If your after someone to make you money, he is not the man for you. If you’re after a solid contributor to your side that wont have the price tag of an absolute superstar then this could be a good call. If you’re after someone that may be a unique pick then he could also be your man.

who else will get the number 1 tag at port?
Well Luke if last year is a guide, Pearce got the #1 tag.
Id say Boak would have overtaken Pearce by now?
Boak is slightly risky for that reason! And fragile too.
Gun player though – I was considering him before this
Not sure if he can average 100+ and that’s what u want from a so called premium. I rate him as a player but not for me in DT 2010, there’s better value out there IMO
The Powder are going to be terrible this year. You have to wonder if anyone in that team is going to get enough of the ball to be a worthwhile DT pick…
spot on!
maybe jay nash if he gets a game?????
Plenty of guys to consider from Port, but mainly cheaper guys like Trengove, Lobbe, Nash, Broadbent etc. so Boak is a no for me. Although I too rate him as a player, just not for DT this year.
had him last year under the 3rd year rule. Was a ok upgrade. With the Burgoynes gone he’ll get more attention. He’ll probably be a play that gradually builds to a 100 average.
I agree qwerty. maybe H.Hartlett no to boak
on port players robert gray could be an awesome pick up next year
sounds like you read the same article as me
i read the same article. He looks a class player and shouldn’t cop a tag. Listed as a fwd i will definitely be looking at him.
This is a good point, he has multitudes of potential (both footbal & DT).
Also look for Port to have a second ruckman come from no where, my money isn’t on Lobbe tho (he may play the first 2-3 games, but after that…)
i am just not sure he can score high in dream team, he definatletly can in sc, but in dt this year he only had 1 score over 100 and that was 101.
So far I would consider him a lot more because he has done a full pre-season so far.
Don’t be fooled by Lade and both Burgoynes gone because In my opinion they will be better than last year without them. Shaun played bugger all games while Lade struggled to find the ball as much and Peter Burgoyne was finished after such an awful season last year.
Boak was a star without them last year after missing most of the pre – season and now he has trained the house down all pre – season this year so I would strongly consider him. He has very good pace and really strong hips not a very easy player to tag at all.
I have heard whispers that Jackson Trengove from Port has Put on a mighty 10KG over the summer and he has been simple to smart, to strong and too fast even for senior players at training. I will be definately be picking up Trengove as a lock and I’m still considering Gray, Boak and Broadbent from Port.
