Why should I pick him?
Why not? He averaged a massive 100 last year, compared to his 75 he averaged in 2008. Although he debuted in 2006, I’m still saying Bernie comes under the famous ‘third year rule’ here. In ‘06 and ‘07, he only played a total of 10 games… since then in ‘08 and ‘09 he’s played all games only missing 2. The Crows have an ‘aging’ midfield and will need to pump younger dudes through there to rest up the oldies and to prepare for the future. He averaged 115 in his last 5 games this year and will certainly improve on his ‘09 average.
Why shouldn’t I pick him?
If I’m spending big, I want a player that I can click on as my captain, and for me… I wouldn’t click on Bernie with any huge confidence. Compare that to the other ‘proven’ guns out there who you’d be click on all day for the big job. Bernie only scored 100+ a small 58% of the time and for the price he’ll be at that’s not good enough in my book.
Final thoughts.
He is a more targetted player now than he ever has before. He will attract tags and he will get shut down from time to time, but at the same time knock you up some thumping scores. But Bernie is a gun, the big thing here is can you squeeze this guru into your salary cap? For me, I sadly say “pass” at this stage.

I wont be including Vince in my starting squad next year for the plain reason that their are just better players around that price range and Vince will probably be tagged a fair bit next year
Agree – 2009 was the year to have had Bernie, might be a good 2010 pick up mid season as an upgrade!
I was thinking NO but doing a little research…I dont know i was going to have hayes as my premium mid but i think i could free up some cash and i think vince has more room for improvement. Also he is starting to sound like a decent point of difference for my team…..also very importantly i live in adelaide….the stations suck and only play crows games, might as well pick some if i have to watch them!
Yes get him this guy is a phenomenal athlete. He busts his gut running an entire game. I saw this especially vs collingwood live. The only question is will he mark and kick a bit more or handball too much. Certainly worth picking anyhow!

Had him every year for the past 3 (no idea why i did in the first year, i didnt really pay much attention to DT back then), so hes basically an automatic selection for me.
