Brownlow Medal Night 2009
This is the AFL’s night of nights… the “best and fairest” player of the year is awarded the medal according to what little men in green, orange, yellow or red think. That is a disgrace in itself – they can’t even make decent decisions on the field and they’re paid for that. Anyway, let’s hope they get it right and award it to a deserving winner. My tip is Gary Ablett with Dane Swan in second.
There is money to be made with SportingBet. I have placed a few wagers on the count tonight… makes it interesting – and it doesn’t just have to be on the winner. There are heaps of options. I’m hoping one BIG bet well get up!
Read more for the Warne Dawgs hot Brownlow Medal tips… hopefully we can be millionaires!
- Adam Goodes – Top 5 – $2.00
Sure thing! Will come home like a steam train. Easiest double your money bet you can have! - Leigh Montagna - Most St Kilda Votes – $3.75
I think he will be the pick of the bunch for the Saints for sheer weight of numbers. Good value. Dal Santo is the favourite for them. - Mark Le Cras – Most Eagles Votes – $3.50
Selwood is the favourite… but surely Le Cras has to be better than a 7/2 chance for this. He kicked 58 goals, good midfield time. Get on! - Nick Riewoldt – to beat Brendon Goddard – $1.88
I just see that as easy money… thanks Sporting Bet!

Lenny Hayes is my roughie for the win, at 34/1 on Sportingbet, he’s damn good value.
Warren Tredrea to lead the Power votes at 5/1 is excellent value, Kane doesn’t rack them up as much as he arguably should so Tredrea should do it easily.
Agree with you about Mark LeCras, 3.50/1 to lead the Eagles is free money.
Mitch Clark to lead Group I (Group J at the TAB and Betfair – the ruckmen’s group) at 3/1 is locked and loaded triple-your-money goodness.
Ablett – Dal Santo quinella $19
vince eachway $51 for the win & $12 the place and stevie j to be in front at round 11 $8.50!!
If Judd wins, i’ll be a very happy camper.
Sewell to win the Hawks votes.
It sucks you can’t multi Brownlow bets on Sportingbet
wat do people think about petrie for most kangaroos votes. played all games not like brent harvey. paying $8.00 as well.
Daniel Rich
Bernie Vince for a top 5 finish i recon there would be pretty good odds for that
if i was dane swan i would take action against every fuckin footy umpire in the world. 12 votes! he got 450 posessions this year and he gets 12 measly fuckin votes. while he may not have the best kick in the game to not be given a single fucin vote in a 34 and 36 disposal game is a fuckin disgrace. if he cant get close this year when will he ever be given a chance. btw i do have to agree though gray ablett certainly deserved it. im just bithcing coz swan got so few votes
Umpires don’t see stats dickhead, and clearly that didn’t notice a little black and white hobbit running round.
SJ robbed of 3 votes against the Swans ! He didn’t get any !
Dane Swan is the perfect example of a player who is better on paper than in the umpires view. For impact on games, he would be well behind Ablett and Judd this year. Probably deserved more than 12 votes, but when Collingwood play well Didak or Davis will have equal the impact and more lair than Swan and get the big votes. Swan polled votes in 7 games, same as Dal Santo and Gibbs but the 3-2-1 system favours the BOG
I think Swans impact on the game when he has 34 possesions is alot less than when blokes like Ablett, Judd, Black, Hayes etc have the same amount.
Hope that makes sense to people.
Speaking of being robbed how does Fev kick 8 and almost win the game for them and not get a single vote?
It happened right in front of me
On Swanny: (Ablett deserved it but swanny should have been 20 – 25 votes)
He was ranked 3rd in Total Inside 50s, 4th in Total Goal Assists, 1st in Total Kicks, 14th in Total Handballs, 1st in Total Disposals, 10th in Total Marks, 5th in Inside 50s Per Game, 13th in Goal Assists Per Game, 2nd in Kicks Per Game, 2nd in Disposals Per Game. He was voted runner up at the AFLPA MVP awards (poling 584 votes), losing to Gary Ablett (688).
Thank god Swan didnt win it.. yes Swan is a gun DT’er but he needs to do alot more to earn Brownlow votes… his cheap possessions are worthless at time and his kicking efficiency is terrible.
Well done Ablett, truely deserved.
Peace out until next year DT Talk…
Swan is a DT gun but I have never enjoyed watching him play, I don’t find him nearly as dynamic or effective as Ablett, Judd, Goodes.
I would have thought Scott Stevens would have jagged more votes …
If you wanna talk about cheap stats, what about ablett? you have to divide all his stats by 2, because he only handballs to a bloke to set himself up for a kick. he’ll run straight at the bloke he handballed to and go round the back to get the easy lay off and have a nice sheppard to boot.
never seen a more selfish footballer.
I hope now that he has his holy grail he’ll start playing team footy.
also, wtf happended to Riewoldt!?!?
what more do you gotta do in a season as a backamn or forward?
Jonno Brown’s season didnt compare to Riewoldts, i know he had alot less players to take votes off him, but sheesh.
They really need to rejig the mindset of umpires. I saw Scarlett get 3 votes in a game, so obviously it is possible.
swan should have got about 20 votes, that was a disgrace and don’t day i’m a biased pies supporter, i barrack for north
@ Gambitt
“never seen a more selfish footballer.”
obviously havent seen much footy then mate
All those Dt Talk Brownlow tips were wrong lol.
Did you look at the tips? Lecras got most for eagles and riewoldt beat goddard. Those two were right. Goodes wasn’t top 5 (suprised me too) and montagna wasn’t best for saints. They got half right.
and StuF came up with a few beauties. Easy money. What we gonna bet on in the off-season?
‘fess up Warnie, what was you “one big bet”? No shame if you lost, so don’t leave us hanging…..
Hehe… well, I had $10 on Sam Mitchell at $1251 for the top 5. Not a bad bet… he was robbed on a couple of games (one in particular he was tipped to get 3 votes, didn’t get any, when he had 40 possies). Was a big risk, but better than $1251 odds!! Haha! The DT TALK house was pumping when he was doing well early!!
Was a very good night for me, betting each way on Hayes ended up being the big winner, but the others came through as well which was great.
If you’re looking for a stand-in GambleVin, I am available hahaha.
lol @ warnie , sam mitchell was ineligable there was a cross next to his name for the whole thing hahahahahahah as if u didnt know that warnie no wonder the odds were good. LOL
evan01 ur not excluded from getting in the top 5 or even gettin the most votes just cos ur ineligable, just means u cant win the medal. if i hadve known those odds i wouldve put some money on mitchell too!
Yeah, what Donut said. The odds wouldn’t have been there if you couldn’t be on him. He was all over every other betting agency as the favourite for most votes for the Hawks. Smart bet.
