Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 22
HUGE week this week with many people looking forward to their Dream Team Grand Final this weekend. This week I have once again changed things up a little but all I hope is that you nail a ripper this week and claim either the Premiership Cup or the just as important, Tit-ed Cup! Oh and thanks again to over 1,000 people who voted last week! Lets get it on!
Bitching Sooks… Yep… here I go. What about the whinging bloody sooks out there that just give you the shits when the captain they click on stuffs up? Everyone has enjoyed the “Swan-ride” so far this year, smiling at his 150’s and 140’s but when Dane has 90 (which is still ok) they cry like the babies they are. Harden up fags and stop being bloody bitching sooks… I went him too, and I’m the king of captains, so… we all stuff up ha ha.
On that… over there on the right are the Top 5 picks of last week. Some went bananas and some… like Swanny, Didak and Pav all ‘under-achieved’ based on what we predicted, but that will happen. I won shitloads of money picking Delids and Thompson as the top scores in their games, making my research not a total waste of time (as I went Swan captain too).
This week as I am once again pushed for time, as I know it’s hard to believe this is not my full time job. I wish it was… “Hi, I’m Calvin, DT Captain Researcher” – got a nice ring to it. Anyway… I have looked at 3 games, covering 16 absolute super stars, so this still has to help a little. If you dont have any of these guys then your team is shit and you should do something else. Good luck and I hope this helps a little, if not, gamble!
Geelong Vs Fremantle
Corey – 122
Pavlich – 112
Bartel – 111
Chapman – 107
Stevie J – 103
Selwood – 93
Ablett – 72
Joel Corey has been smashing it up with scores of 122 and 139 in his last 2 games in ‘09 (avg. 114 in his last 3). Here he averages a massive 122 in his last 3 Vs the Dockers with previous scores of 132, 121, 112, 130. In his last 3 Vs them he has had 100 disposals!! He has knocked up 100+ scores in 79% of his games this year, but does average a 101 at Skilled Stadium (SS) this year … so lets put it this way… if you have him, if you are lucky enough too. He might just be your boy this week!! Bartel averages a great 111 in his last 3 here and does average 102 in his last 5 this year. Against the Dockers he has posted scores of 113, 134, 85, 85, 126 which are pretty impressive. This is Jimmy’s 2nd favourite team to play DT wise (behind Adelaide) and with an average of 120 at SS this year and if it rains, he gets batter! Jimmy might just be your boy here as well. Selwood has averaged 111 in his last 3 this year and had a 136 last week. He averages 100 at SS this year and has previous scores of 55, 121, 102. So if you can forgive his 55 last time, they maybe… but maybe not. Chapman went off hurt last week and is in serious doubt to play and it’s too risky to go anywhere near him. Stevie J is in the same boat. Very unpredictable. The Dockers however, are his favourite team with previous scores of 130, 87, 91 and then 134 and 103. He averages 109 at SS this year, but for me… he’s one to bet on with some loose change but not one to give the “C” too this week. Now Ablett… In his last 2 games this year he has averaged 133, and is setting himself for finals nicely, plus a nice run home in Brownlow voting! His last scores Vs the Dockers go… 76, 64, 76.. no shit! He has only scored 2×100+ scores on them in his career of 11 games. They are his worst team to play outta everyone in the last 2 years. You concerned? I am. Before it’s been cause of the Crowley tag, but what happened last time these guys met, when he only had 76? Dodd and M.C Shammer tagged him up… Your call cause Gary’s form is still wicked and I will never write this lad off. Pavlich is in this game too! He averages 112 here which is not a surprise as most gun average well against the Cats. With previous scores of 127, 85, 124, Pav looks good… till you see that he has not cracked 100 in his last 3 games this year and his highest score is just 94 at SS. Tough one for you this week Pav!
V8’s ABLETT CURSE – Ok, this year I have only gone Ablett twice. The 2 times I have gone him he has had his 2 worst scores of this year (76, 71) so for the record… I curse him. Seriously! ha ha. For this reason I will not be picking Gary this week giving everyone a great chance to go him and score well. Best of luck to you!
LAST TIME THEY MET – Rd. 12, 2009. Cats won by 19. Byrnes top scored with 140 (5g) Chappy had 135, Corey 132 (30d) and Jimmy had 113 (26d). Pavlich had 31d, 2g for his 127pts. Brougham fans should be happy as he had 122 and Sandi had 110. Selwood had that 55 and Ablett had his low one of 76. Ibbotson tagged Chappy and the Pink Pig went to Hasleby.
Collingwood Vs WesternDawgs
Boyd – 107
Swan – 94
Pendlebury – 92
Didak – 91
Ummm ok. Matty Boyd averages a solid 107 here with 111, 93, 118 in his last 3 Vs the Pies. He has averaged 107 in his last 3 this year and had 120 in his last game at Eti. He will tag Swan, like he did last time but still knocked up 30d himself! Didak had massive 140 last time he met the Dawgs although that is the only 100+ score Vs them in his career of 8 games. Before that 140, he had an 80 and 53. He has only played once at Eti in ‘09… for 140pts. Pendlebury has had 99 and 96 in his last 2 Vs them but it’s Swanny we all wanna talk about… or do we? Dane Swan missed his 14th 100+ score in a row last week with that 90. Against the Dawgs he has had previous scores of 121, 85, 76 making them his 2nd worst team in the AFL to play. But, it’s still Swanny. He gets 115+ a massive 67% of the time this year and clocks over 100 a nice 86% of the time. He averages 106 at Eti in his last 3 (127, 79, 117) and must not be outta your calculations, because after all… it still is Swanny!
LAST GAME GITTERS – In Rd. 22 last year, Swanny had his lowest score of the year where he knocked up just 72, who cares?? Dunno, but its a stat and that’s what I do!
LAST TIME THEY MET – Rd. 15, 2009. Pies won by 1pt. Didak was tagged by Picken but still killed them for his 140 (33d). Swan had 121 (34d, 2g) despite a tag from Boyd who had 111 (30d) himself, so it probably wasn’t really a tag! Davis had 109 ad Pendle’s knocked up 99.
Melbourne Vs St Kilda
Goddard – 119
Montagna – 119
Dal Santo – 110
Voldt – 105
Hayes – 85
Lenny Hayes missed last week which makes him a dodgey pick straight up this week. He had 119 last time but he’s off my radar. Nick Voldt was solid last week and this week he plays the Dees who are his favourite team in the whole competition where he has a lowest score of just 84 in his career against them of 9 games including some bigger scores of 127, 130 and 110 in that time. In fact out of those 9 games he has played against them he has cracked 100+ a nice 6 times and will surely do it again this week. Montagna should have a field day this week. Since he rested 3 weeks back he has averaged 108 since. His lowest score of this year is just 85 and last time he played Melbourne he had his 2ndhighest score of the year of 146 (behind his 166 Vs WCE). He averages 119 in his last 3 games Vs these lads with previous scores of 146, 102, 108. Why not? He’ll be awesome!!! Dal Santo averages a wicked 110 here with his last scores going 114, 121, 96. He had the shit tagged out of him last game and stunk it up and will look to bounce back this week! Goddard has gone 132, 116, 108 in his last 3 games against the Dees and if you see a kinda pattern there…. I’m tipping a 164 this week. He is solid as here but he can pull you dirty numbers. 64, 46, 66 are some of those from this year and then he can go 141, 136, 134. Up and down and are you willing to put your GF on the line banking on one player… umm. My tip though is that Goddards last few games Vs the Demons speak for themselves.
SAINTS NEED A WIN – In a game where the Saints would usually cruise though, they can’t! With finals one week away and coming off back2back loses its time to build so momentum and they will look to take that out on the Demons and give them a smashing. As if the Dee’s will mind after all they would like some good picks next year. Points all day for the Saints I’m tipping.
SAINTS FIRST TIME AT THE MCG – Seriously!! They have never played at the MCG this year and now they do it, just out from finals. Anyway… in 2008 Hayes averaged 105. Montagna had 68 last time he was there and Santo had just 58 in his last. No big deal for me cause that was ages ago.
GOALS G’DAY Vs DEES – Last week Carlton kicked 24 goals ont he Demons, so yeah, this might get nasty!
LAST TIME THEY MET – St Kilda won 83-46 in what seems low scoring. Montagna had 146 (31d, 13t), Goddard had 132 (31d, 10m) and Hayes had 119 (53d). Santo was tagged by McDonald for his 114 and Voldt had 100 for just 1 goal and 20d. Oh and those 5 guys there, were all the top 5 scores in the games ha ha, true dat!
Well… that’s Calvin’s Captain for 2009. I will be popping my head in during the DT Finals to give some tips, but not in the detail you usually see, but yeah CC’s will still operate to some degree. My overall average ended up on a modest 110.0 with Swanny topping my list with huge 158 and Bartel being my lowest with his 49. This week I will be going Voldt I think. Don’t have Corey or Montagna. Giving Nick my first run with the “C” this year! All the best, happy DTing and hope you rip a good captain this week. V8 out!
