Calvin’s Captains – Rd 15… the real one!

Righteo… ha ha, here is the real Calvin’s Captains for the week! But seriously, next week I need my 1,000 votes, I get a little sensitive when I don’t! And I will have a week. Anyway HUGE week for old V8 this week with most of my top pick leaving all coaches happy. Now you can’t get shitty at Swan (35%) for his 107, and the rest followed nicely. Bartel had 137 leaving 18% for coaches happy and 28% of coaches also grinned at Gary Ablett’s 115. Few rippers for you this week, so climb aboard the CC train and lets go… TOOT TOOT!

swan107Last week my top 5 were solid as… check them out. I also mentioned a few other things that I hoped people followed such as: Play Grimes on your field, don’t bench him (as he ripped up WCE last time for 100+) Warnie ignored that, plus I did say that Gibbsy will go BANG for a 120+ (had 140). Now yeah, I know I stuff a few as well, but hey, I won’t mention them hey!! ha ha.  Lets get it going! Oh and don’t forget the numbers written next to the players are their average they have in their last 3 games Vs this weeks opponent. People forget that!

Westerndawgs Vs Collingwood

Cross – 99
Lockyer – 99
Boyd – 98
Pendle – 89
Swan – 72
Didak – 67

This should be an epic game, of two teams in hot form. Crossy has been solid of late and had a nice 105 last time he played these guys back in 2008. Boyd had a huge 128 last week, but old Boydy here has only posted 1×100+ scores Vs the Pies in his career of 8 games Vs them. Pendlebury’s average of 89 comes from just 2 games he has played Vs them. He averages 115 this year at Etihad but could be a little risky. Lockyer only had 79 last time he played at Eti, but had posted scores Vs the Dawgs of 101, 93, 103 for his average of 99. Didak has averaged 136 in his last 4 this year and is red red black hot as! BUT… this week he plays at Eti for the 1st time this year and in his 7gms Vs the Dawgs, Alan has never scored 100+, never! And yeah, that concerns me. Swan, my boy Swan… had 107 last week, but is still hot in form averaging 131 in his last 3 this year… but in his last 3 Vs the Dawgs he has gone 85, 76, 56… he will not be in my top 5 this week. Despite his form, his history Vs them is too bad for me, I’ll pass, but this may bite me in the arse as well, cause it is Dane Swan after all. Pass for me though!
PICKEN THEM OFF- Who will Liam Picken tag?? Swan, Pendle, Didak, Leon… who knows, but one thing is for sure, Picken is now one of the best taggers in the AFL and must be respected! Dirty freaking taggers!!
BOTH TEAMS LOCK EM DOWN- Collingwood have allowed opposition players 7×100+ scores in the last 3 week and the Dawgs 6×100+ scores, ranking them #2 and #3 (equal) over that time.

Sydney Vs Essendon

Kirk – 108
ROK – 103
Jude – 73
Prismall – 66
Stanton – 63

Few good numbers from the Swannys here. Kirk is a jet and with scores of 106, 123, 95 in his last 3 Vs them he is just an all round gun. Plus he has averaged 111 over his last 6 games this year. ROK gets a gig this week though popular demand. He has averaged 123 in his last 3 games this year and averages 103 over his last 3 Vs the Bombers. He had a great score of 132 three games back Vs them as well. Jude is Jude and has played 14 games Vs these guys and has… never scored 100+. Bugger Jude C’mon!!! As for the Essendon boys, pass on all accounts! Stants has never scored 100 on them and with his last scores Vs them of 58, 69, 61 and put that with the fact he has not scored over 100 in his last 3 this year… yuck pass yuck! And it’s official, I am a huge Primsall fan!! He has played 4 games this year averaging 94 and had an 88 last time he played the Swans a while back.
SYDNEY IN SYDNEY- Swans are ranked #1 like the old days of locking players down to under 100+ only giving up 5 in the last 3 weeks. If you pick an Essendon captain this week… get to a doctor cause you have gone f%&king mad my friend.

Carlton Vs Richmond

Marc – 101
Gibbs – 92
Delids – 91
Judd – 88

Juddy had a solid 132 last week and throughout his career he averages 93 Vs the Tigers and they are his favourite team to play DT wise in the AFL along with the Pies. He should go off again this week. Gibbsy did go off as predicted last week with his 140 Vs Freo. He has knocked up previous scores of 110, 112 in his last 2 Vs the Tiger with a dirty 55 before that screwing his 3 game average of 92. He will go off a again! Marc has gone 97, 97, 92, 92 in his last 4 games this year and averages 101 o the Tigers. 122, 83, 98 were his last scores on them, and he could be like Juddy and Gibbsy this week with all the 3 big boys going offa! Delids averages 91 over his last 3 on the Blues, but with 85, 132 in his last 2, so I’m tipping a solid one from him as well.
LAST TIME THEY MET- Rd. 1 2009. Blues won by 83pts in that massively built up game to open the ‘09 season. Wiggins had 131, Hadley 126, Marc 122, Gibbs 110, Judd 101, Delids 85. Good old Richo was the only Tiger to crack the 100 mark with his 114.
TIGERS RANKED EQUAL #2 EASIEST – The Tigers have given up 13×100+ scores in the last 3 weeks, so look out for those 3 big Blues up there to cash in this week!

Brisbane Vs Geelong

Bartel – 125
Ablett – 122
Chapman – 105
Corey – 96
Brown – 83
Selwood – 82
Stevie J – 80

Righteo lets get Brownie out of the way… he’s playing. Done! Joel Corey has knocked up 7×100+ scores in a row in his last 7 games this year having scores between 102-132 (mega consistent). Chapman has averaged a huge 143 in his last 3 games this year and is in mega mega form! In that time he has averaged 34d, 11m! Talk about going offa! In his last 3 games Vs the Lions he has gone 126, 97, 92 and goes with his average of 115 at the Gabba in his last 2 there. Anyone got any reason why Chappy won’t go off again this week?? I don’t!! Ablett averages a huge 122 here in his last 3 Vs the Lions with previous scores of 140, 88, 139, 101. His form has been solid as and must not be over looked this week. One downer here though, which doesn’t over concern me too much is his low average of 68 at the Gabba in his last 2. I’m not too fussed on that, just telling ya. Jim Jim Jimmy Baaarrrtel. Gotta love Jim! In his last 3 Vs the Lions he has only averaged 25d with that average of 125, and that is because he tackles the crap out of them averaging 9t a game over those 3 games. With previous scores of 137, 108, 129, 104, 107 how in the world can you over look Jimbob this week for the job of the big ‘C’… gun gun gun!! Oh and he had 106 at the Gabba last time he played there (back in’06 though).
LAST TIME THEY MET- Rd 5. 2009 – Cats won by 90+ and 7 Cats scored 100+ in what was the highest scoring DT game this year in the wet at SS. Ablett had 140 (was tagged by Shero and then Selwood) he had 42d, 2g. Bartel had just 26d, 13t in his 137. Chappy 126 (34d, 9m), J.B had 3 goals for his 67. Selwood had 31d, Corey 21d (85pts) and Stevie J only managed 1g from his 14d.
TAGGER TROY OUT?- Tagger Troy will most likely miss this week and can be a bit of a DT stopper. He went to Ablett late in the game last time and killed Swan at the Gabba earlier this year. If he’s out… who will stop the Cats? “No one V8″ ha ha ha … yeah that’s right! Please keep reading on…

Adelaide Vs Fremantle

Sandilands – 85
Edwards – 79
Thompson – 76

Thompson has averaged 107 in his last 3 at AAMI but has a crap average Vs the Dockers. So does Tyson who only averages 79. Then we have Sandilands who let a few dudes down last week, who wanted his huge score that he had last time he played the Blues, didn’t happen. Sorry I have nothing for you here.
LAST TIME THEY MET- Rd. 3 2009 – Crows won by 24. Haselby 107 and Michael Johnson 106 were the only dudes to crack the 100 mark. So yeah, still have nothing for you.

Hawthorn Vs Kangaroos

Sewell – 118
H-Mac – 107
Mitchell – 98
Harvey – 91
Hodge – 85

Sam Mitchell just had 76 last week after his form recently has been wicked! He has posted scores of 112 and 141 in his last 2 Vs the Roos (42 in his third game). Hodgey can be dodgey… only has scored 1×100+ this year and only 1×100+ score on the Roos in his last 7 games. Brent Harvey only had 52 last week but it’s the H-Mac who will go well for his coaches this week. With previous scores of 103, 110, 107, 104, he will be as solid as for you, but prob not the huge numbers some of the other boys will get. Brad Sewell loves playing the Roos for some reason… averaging 118 in his last 3 Vs them, he has previous scores of 141, 122, 90, 93 and will be seriously pushing for a top 5 position at the end.
LAST TIME THEY MET- Rd. 3 2009 – Hawks won… Guerra had 119 and Rawlings had a game high 122. Mitchell had 112 (37d), Bateman 114, Harvey only had 69 and H-Mac had 103 (30 h/o). Buddy kicked 4.3g but will be shit again so don’t bother with that fatty! Oh and Sewell DNP.

Melbourne Vs Port Adelaide

Green – 100
Kane – 95
Bruce – 89

Not much to chat about here. Bruce had 29d last time he played them for a good score of 118. Kane has been a little quiet in his last 2 this year with scores of 81, 73. He has previous scores of 100, 92, 102 and doean’t do much for me here.
LAST TIME THEY MET- Rd. 3 2009 – Port by 57. Kane had 100 (29d) and Peter Burg had 121. Greeny had 104 with his 17d but was tagged by Cassisi and Brucey had 118 for his 29d. 7xPort dudes cracked 100+ and 3xMelb players had 100+. Points up for grabs by the look of it. Benching Grimes this week Warnedawg?? I wouldn’t… but my team is shit and I don’t have him… ha ha your call bro.
PORT #1- Yep they have given up the most 100+ points in the last 3 weeks out of all teams (16). Maybe the Dees will rip up the MCG and cash in here, but no one is on your radar for the C in this group. Still benching Grimesy Warnie??

West Coast Vs St Kilda

Cox – 116
Voldt – 116
Priddis – 110
Hayes  – 107
Montagna – 102
Goddard – 100
Santo – 93

Big Cox may not be back this week, but he might, so lets crunch his numbers in case. He averages huge 116 in his last 3 Vs the Saints with previous scores of 120, 101, 127, 121, 139. His lowest score this year is 91 and he averages 109 in all his games at Subi this year. If he plays, he has the numbers the go BANG. Priddis has gone 126, 45, 160 in his last 3 Vs the Saints and except for that dirty 45, he smashes them too! Goodard has averaged 112 in his 3 games this year. Montagna has a nice average thanks to his 144 he had in his last V them but before that he went 76, 87. Voldt could be your man here… he averages 21d, 11m with a total of 10.8g in his last 3 games Vs the Eagles. With previous scores of 102, 115, 131 and an average of 120 at Subi over his last 2 games there in ‘08 the Voldt is looking good here! really good! Lenny Hayes continues to rip it having his 10th 100+ score in a row last week for the year. He averages 125 over his last 3 this year and the Eagles are his 2nd favourite team to play DT wise behind the Hawks. That goes with an average of 113 in his last 2 games at Subi and Lenny will get you 100+ again. For shizzle!!!
LAST TIME THEY MET- Rd 3. 2009 – Saints won by near 100…  Montagna 144 (31d, 8t), Jones had 140 (14t) too. Goddard had 134 and 4g. Santo was tagged by Selwood but still had 121. Voldt had 26d, 9m for his 102 and Lenny had a tiny 87 for his standards. Priddis had 126 and Coxy had 24d for his 120!!

ab1522

Last week I went good old Dane Swan for his 107. My current average is 116.7 and this week, I will be getting off the Swan train and getting on either Gary Ablett or Bartel. As always (for those people who think I lie) I will post my captain in the comments here prior to tip off on Friday night. Currently though… I’ve got Gary just ahead due to his 42d last time he played them. Although Bartel’s last 5 games of 100+ Vs the Lions is nothing short of awesome arrgg, I dunno – I’ll let you know!

Who will you be locking in as captain for Round 15?

  • Gary Ablett (41%, 480 Votes)
  • Jimmy Bartel (31%, 365 Votes)
  • Lenny Hayes (4%, 50 Votes)
  • Paul Chapman (8%, 88 Votes)
  • Nick Voldt (5%, 54 Votes)
  • Mitchell or Sewell (2%, 18 Votes)
  • Another Cats Player (1%, 13 Votes)
  • H-Mac (0%, 5 Votes)
  • Cox or Priddis (1%, 16 Votes)
  • Someone Else (7%, 71 Votes)

  1. Good job again Calvin

  2. Calvin wheres Shane Tuck? Has been a superstar over the past month or so!

  3. Just like I have gave the C to the last 4 weeks, it goes to….HAYES!!!!

  4. yeh Matty I’m with you
I’ve had him as C for last 3 weeks he’s killin it!!

  5. Good job again Calvin. I think i will for sewell for the big C. He will shread

  6. Not voting until you include shane tuck in your wrap, as was PROMISED last week. I haven’t been this disappointed since indiana jones 4.

  7. Love having 4 of the top 5.

Liam Pricken’s a bitch, if he tags Dids I’ll cry.

  8. Montagna, the guy is going apeshit and is a tackling machine.. 10 last week against the cats…

  9. surely you will get 1000 votes with a post like that. good work calvin

  10. my boy MARC this week,

  11. Last week I nearly lost my round game due to opponent putting Chappy Captain while I went for Swanny.

Look for C Cornes if he plays to run riot agianst Melbourne. He may get limited time first game back but will prob rest back in Defence then run through midfield.

Sometimes I check captains on Friday and I can’t submit my vote, sorry

  12. Lenny Hayes my new recruit will get the go this week his a DT CHAMP!!

  13. Going Bartel this week, but ROK may very well top score for my team, he has been an absolute gun the last 5 weeks

  14. Good effort Calvin. Nice one.

  15. NO ABC hurts me this week. Volt I think will be the go.

  16. How you don’t start Grimes (who was playing WC) over Geary (Cats) is beyond me.

  17. Fair suck of the sauce bottle Darcy, Geary scored 101 previous week.

At least I didn’t start Presti !!! (he has been cinnamin only once and luckily got 60pts, by far his highest this year)

  18. Hi guys. Shit yeah Shane Tuck… forgot him again! Arggg, sorry!

Only a few obvious picks this week, and in my top 5 I reckon, unless you wanna guts it with a Swanny, he’ll be rare pick I reckon and you might get a few more pts on everyone else… especially if Gary and Jimmy fail (which they wont)

Join us 2mrw night for our VIDCAST thingy and we’ll cover Captain questions and all that rubbish

  19. Based on that, I might just take Chapman ahead of Swan. It’s tough taking the C off Swan, though, he’s been doing well for me the past couple of months!

  20. I think i will stick with Gibbs. Plus it is more fun to cheer for your captain when he plays in the team you barrack for.

  21. after all the great research, it comes down to bartel or gablett, which is my ponder each week :)

  22. Hey Calvin! No wonder you didn’t get 1,000 last week, the website is ripping you off.

It hasn’t given me the option to cast my vote!

  23. why does no one love lenny – he has been skipper for last 10 weeks straight for me and never lets me down including a win by 10 pts when he scored 147 as skipper he is a GUN on legs why does he have no love from anyone

  24. @Calvin. Half the time I can’t vote it just shows me the poll and no i haven’t already voted.

Bartell v Ablett for me. Bartell looked to work alot harder last week. I swore Ablett was having a shocker but was 70 points at half-time. He’s just a cruiser!

  25. @ the don

Lenny’s getting the lovin’ from me too, mate. Been my captain for the past six.

  26. Cheers Chook, i admit i have a man cruch on Lenny, and ablet and bartel are both guns too, but no one ever talks about Lenny, and i think fk all people have him in the DT as well ????

he scored 75 ts in 1 quarter last yr then did his hammie :-( but was on track for 300 big ones (600 as skipper !!!! imagine that !)

  27. Great post V8. I’m putting the C on Sewell as the stats look great for him this week! But I’m giving some thought to Voldty maybe too.

  28. @ Calvin,

Why do you look past Montagna every week I don’t get it?

He averages 114.21 this year and has had huge scores of 127, 144, 122, 133, 146 and 137 this year yet of all the Calvins Captains he hasn’t been in the top 5 once.

With a HUGE 144 against the eagles in round 3 he should be highly considered as a Captain Choice this week. Especially when all the ‘Great’ West Coast taggers are going to go to guys like Lenny Hayes and Nick Del Santo.

I demaned an answer why you constantly hold him back as a Captain Chocie.

    Anonymous.

  29. Voted someone else this week
Tossing up between Swan, Didak on friday nite
OR Cross or my fav NDS

  30. MIKE HUSSEY FOR CAPTAIN THIS WEEK…..HE IS DEFINATELY GOING TO GET 150+ AGAINST THE POMS

  31. gotta b mitch johnson, 10 wickets at least for the test and 100 in the first innings n 50 in the 2nd. haha

  32. any1 reckon rob murphy is a good pick up at 300

  33. Yeah good point on Montagna, each week if I had a top 6 or 7 he would make it and just misses out. His form is wicked as, and I agree with you totally. He is taggable though and when he does get the attention he does tend to struggle (85 recently), unlike the big boys of Jimmy, Gary and Lenny who are pretty much untouchable. I agree that he rarely gets the tag, but if he did I’d be worried that he’d be unable to shake it like the big boys. Another thing I guess is that his numbers of previous years are lower than others and therefore his history is a little weaker than theirs Vs opponents… in 2008 he scored 100+ only 36% of the time… Dont get me wrong, I’m a Mont fan, a big one and pump up his wheels each week. and as I said, he has been so close every week, in fact.. he’d probably be winning my 6th man of the year award! ha ha – Great point though mate! and Calvin has taken it on board. But… I think I got him in the top 5 once or twice though this year haven’t I?? Maybe not…

  34. great stuff calvin.

just to let you guys know, the premier league fantasy game has opened.

  35. Soccer??

    Yuck

  36. All over it, jim cowski.

Ebanks-Blake looks a likely type and Jimenez could get a guernsey too, but there’s not a lot of value in the mid-range picks. Trying to fit as many Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool players into my line-up as possible as their opening fixtures seem kinder than Arsenal’s.

Hard to do too much before the pre-season games, but how’s your squad shaping up?

BTW, I’d be happy to start up a DT Talk fantasy Premier League league if there’s enough interest.

  37. Count me in Chook. I’m a mad Wolves supporter and you’re right about Ebanks-Blake. Plenty of cheap players in the promoted teams that you know will play every week

  38. great idea for a league.

havnt made my team yet as it is far too soon but i like your ideas.

    should be interesting

  39. You’re right, it’s far too soon, but for those eager bee-atches out there, the league code is: 39814-13249.

    The web site is fantasy.premierleague.com.

I’ll stop clogging up Cal’s post with soccer stuff, but will pop reminders in Chook’s Rooks, especially when we get into August. The opening round of the league is August 15.

  40. where is GEARY im putting the big C on him

  41. in the league chooky

  42. wow 871 looks like calvin has the week off

  43. swear shaney tuck should be making an appearance

  44. well i voted at least.

big bartel gets the c this week

  45. rok is the love of my life

  46. 35 more you fat fucks vote!!!!

  47. Joel corey again for me. 7 hundreds in a row is what you call good form! Yay we cracked the 1K this week. Good effort guys!!!

  48. With Ablett out I might have to go Hayes.
