Matthew Pavlich: Should I Stay or Should I Go?
On this week’s episode of DT TALK we had the discussion on what the “magic number” of weeks someone would be out for to warrant trading them. We came to a bit of a consensus of three. Now, Matthew Pavlich sits in that range. Could be 2… could be 4. So, let’s call that 3!
75,641 of us have him… if you don’t, then I’m not sure what you have been thinking this year. People’s opinions and situations will differ here, like with the amount of trades left, the quality of the bench cover and other players/spots that need to be fixed up, but what would you do?

CYA LATER PAV
U R OUT
1st comment yes
sitting undefeated in my league and ranked 14,000 overall… i’m considering this a building year, i’ve upped my average by about 150 on last year (thanks to this site!).
so obviously i’m just aiming to get big scores towards the end of the year. with 5 trades remaining, i’m just gonna cop a forward donut with him until finals time. still managed 1930 last week with pav and cox out so hopefully can stay around that mark
trade him for leigh brown
Sorry Pav you’ve been ok this year but I can’t wait 4 weeks. Goodbye.
http://www.youtube.com/fasmedia
75000 have him and only 2 comments! I think keep him, if you can dowgrade a Warren, Zeibel, Walker type to Jurrah or Ballyntyne to free up some cash, they can cover (hoping for maybe 50 pts) then upgrade a low or mid player to a gun (if you have trades available)
You know people will keep him and you will be playing against him in finals and I’d want to have him then.
Going to hold on to Pav and upgrade Aaron Edwards instead, so that’ll prevent a doughnut this week and get me a stronger team when Pav comes back.
Keepin him. Too many other issues to deal with… Gia / Ziebell / Brown …
keeping him and bringing jurah to cover, i have sealed top 4 and wating for him to fire come finals
“Don’t know what you hav been thinking this year”? Pavlich has been one of the worst picks of this year. He’s gone down 80k and never had room for improvement. Bad call
I got rid of pav and hopefully Chappy will score big this week!!!!
Trade pav for someone like Nick Voldt, Delids or CHAPPY!!
To those saying must trade Pav, Did you also trade out G Ablett and lose him for the year? What about Cox? Didak? J Corey? Drummond? These sideways trades will damage your team in the long run. THIS is what your bench is for! Someone will step up and take their place, and you will be sweet when they get fit again.
i had some free cash so i upgraded sidebottom to murphy and benched pav
he will definately be handy when finals come round.
Me when hearing the teams
“wat 2 do with pav…
yay seller debuting pav sit on the bench…. NOOOO walker dropped … watts watts watts r u playing lets c damn it toughen up u pussy sik” so withn only 5 trades left all yr i will have 2 ride the zero
similar here palmerforthebrownlow!! .. keeping Pav on the bench and upgrading T.Walker to Murphy .. also got Chornes on the bench and been able to cover both without a zero so far .. haven’t had a zero all year .. touch wood
Thoughts on Murphy from Doggies? He has been a gun for me in past years!
Got 4 forwards out (Warren, Walker, Pav and M Austin). 6 trades left.
Bit worried that he will spend too much time down back? He moved forward pretty late against the Kangas last week
I agree with earlier comments. Pav has been a fair SC pick, but hasn’t been upgrade worthy in DT. Fair play to those who can pick the late season bolters, that is an invaluable skill at this time of year.
Cheers
He can warm the bench for a few weeks. Need to fix up Gia > Jonathon Brown. Bowden > Lockyer this week. Then next week Walker > Murphy.
Looking at about 12 donuts this week in the hole squad. Luckily ive secured top 4 with 14 Trades left.
Bring on the finals
With Pav, Gia, Walker, goodwin, hentschel fwd
hartlett, muston, coughlan mids
he’s a keeper for me
Good morning. Well… the point of what I said about if you didn’t have Pav… etc…
Maybe I am in a diferent position to others, but Pav was an obvious upgrade when dropping $50K and averaging around 90 (sorry on my phone and can’t give accurate numbers). With midfield time, he is a marker, etc… it was a risk, but a calculated risk. He isn’t the Pav of old, but he is still a ‘gun’ in DT and at a price of $380K or whatever, he was a bargain. You can’t really read anything into his last price drop. As well, I wasn’t gutsy enough to get Chappy… and we all know about Pav’s duability.
So, I’m backing my call to get him in… along with most others I’d think.
@ simon
Interesting comments you made…….
(“Don’t know what you hav been thinking this year”? Pavlich has been one of the worst picks of this year. He’s gone down 80k and never had room for improvement. Bad call)
After round 12 Pav had 1135pts from 12 games, average of 94.58 and dropped $53000 to that point. 3rd most points behind Stevie J and Riewoldt…….with Chappy being not far behind on 1100 from 10 games.
Not sure what improvement you want from him, would be a keeper from the start!!!!
Far from the worst pick of the year i reckon in what has been a tough year for forwards and backs, personally i have been satisfied with his year after a poor start and he will be a keeper for me……at this stage so long as he’s back before finals.
Agreed Warnie and Blue boys, Pav has been a more than satisfactory pick for my team this year. I’ve definitely had bigger issues to worry about.
For mine, Pav is staying. I’ve decided to upgrade Sidebottom to J Brown instead, and play Mitch Brown instead of Pav for the 2-4 weeks. This will leave me with 6 keeper forwards playing, same as before, and once Pav is back my forward line will be complete.
My LTI trigger, especially at this stage of the season, is 4-5 games. Accordingly, Pav’s not worth trading.
With you there StuF….
I will probably put Stevie j in for Sidey (Silvester for Taylor down back for the cash – Silvester to be 9th back).
Will finish my forward line with bench being Dale thomas and Hentschel…….Thomas on while Pav out!!!
I never had the Pav, I dont like high priced fremantle players. I put more care into getting Stevie J, Volt and Didak,
But I have buddy and if you gave me the chance of a trade from injured Pav or Buddy this week for free … I’d choose the Pav, PICK UP YA GAME BUDWOOD!
at the moment i have pav, goodwin, walker and hentschel in my forward line.
The first thing i have decided is that the f**king adelaide crows forwards are shi this year.
THe second thing i decided was that ill be trading pav to jonathan brown cause i dont trust him to be back in 2 weeks.
Would trading Pav for Jurrah be so stupid? it would free up lots of cash. Will Jurrah continue to score around 70 or is that too big of ask?
I’d trade one of my useless non scoring emg but need the extra cash to get Goddard for rance.
Matt34, huge step backwards.
In essence you’re using 2 trades to end up with the same amount of keepers in your team.
@warnie
A Chappy with an injury free preseasaon was a risk I believe all should have taken at the start of the season. Then again, I felt the same way about Luke Ball.
You win some and you lose some
I currently have six trades left, should i hold onto them or trade.
My current trade plan is
Coughlan to Gibbs
Thoughts on thay?
Keepin’ him…have cover this week with Garlett – although he is unlikely to score as well as the Pav, a trade is more valuable at the moment. As long as I have cover Ill “take it one week at a time”…
@ discomute.
I love Chappy. Have loved him in DT for a long time. I blame him for me not winning our league last year, so he was delisted. Haha. Well, pretty much couldn’t trust his body… hindsight it could have been bloody awesome, but hey… still a while to go yet!! Haha.
Have decided to keep Pav. Initially was going to Didak, but decided the trade is more valuable. Only have 6 left after making my trade this week.
Will look to downgrade Hartlett and Warren next week, boosting my bank balance to almost $400k with 4 trades left heading into finals.
Still waiting to welcome back Drummond, Cornes, Goodwin and now Pavlich. With a planned upgrade to Cox also immenent, look out!
Sad to say it because I thought his contribution was ok and I like him as a player, but he’s going.
Probably for Didak. That’s if I wake up sober before the deadline.
I never got pav so im one of those people that “Dont know what you were thinking”
I was doing my upgrades a few weeks back and got rid of Krak just as he peaked and looked at it and ended up getting Okeefe instead of Pav so i could also get Couglan in the midfield.
Cougs didnt pay off but i have been extreamly happy with okeefe.
After that i didnt have any good oppertunities for Pav so i got lucky. No gia, goodwin or pav
(Copped franklyn from round 7 though)
have pav and gian, and 2 trades.. gian to SJ and just play mbrown for pav i think.
anyone have any idea if cogs will be back this season?
Guys got 5 trades left
Cox to Sandilands this week or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Super PAV
Your a GUN so I’ll keep you
Rest you leg and I’ll see you in 3 weeks.
@gugs i wud keep big cox for sure…n wat do people think gia to robert murphy or medhurst??
What does everyone think of Murphy from the dogs? Need to trade Gia out, i am tempted by murphy because of this price but obvioulsy risky. Thinking J Brown might be the best option but cant get Murph out of my head yet.
@johno – I did the Gian to Murphy trade, then with the extra cash I went Cogs to Bartel. I’m sitting on Pav though, great player.
I’m savouring my time at the top of my league since 2nd through to 5th have far more trades left…
I guess you could say last year I couldn’t get up there, this year I peaked too early. Like puberty
traded both pav and gia this week. had to bring in aaron davey for pav and…DREW PETRIE for gia. very rare pick but it was out of him and brent harvey and harvey is going to cop a severe tag week in week out. petrie is very hard to match up on so hopefully its a move that pays off..
Blue Boys, Warnie and Stuf
I was referring to having Pav from the start. That was undoubtedly a poor pick. I should have clarified that. If you did however trade him in at the right time around roud 12 then in theory that was a good trade, just unlucky with the injury. Sometimes though it is the players you don’t have that can give you a real advantage, the ones that most people have and fall short of their expectations or get struck by injury
Ive decided to keep pav, but with 3 trades left is this worth doing???
mitch robbo into liam ant
tex walker into stevie j
all sounds good, but the trade situation says i should lay low for a minute…
reckon liam will play for the rest of the year?
What are people thoughts of the pav to either Jonno Brown or lids
any thoughts on ballentyne or mckernan from adelaide? cod the freo kid get 60 points a week or anyone know anything on mckernan and if he will hold his spot?
Can anyone help me? Worst trade i have made is NGB after an early big score, listed as a test for ages, scouring reports cannot find any information, think the time has come to chop him…
I know people are desperately wanting to gain confidence in their trades by others input. However in the end of the day no one knows how secure any player is, especially if they haven’t played a single AFL game yet. DT is as much luck as it is skill.
@Gra – Richardson commented on the footy show that NGB is a good chance to play through coburg on Sunday, so you may be waiting a couple weeks…
RIGHT NOW
3 trades (145K in bank)
GOODWIN
PAVLICH
COX
all on bench 1,134.500$’s worth on the bench..
Jurrah covering pav and goodwin
Clarke covering cox
Man when those 3 are back and gunning look out.
OUT: PAV + 66K
IN: Deledio
OUT: Rich
IN: Gibbs
11 trades at the conclusion
ITS WHARFY TIME
oops I want for O’keefe and Didak instead of pavlich what was I thinking,
