Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 14
Righteo… BOO YEAH!! Last week we had 1,128 people vote in Calvin’s Captains where we saw 28% of the coaches following my #1 pick of Dane Swan… and he did not let us down with a HUGE 158! This week is a little tougher, with the huge game of the Cats Vs the Saints we have guns Vs guns and quality Vs quality. Tough call with our bigs guns this week, and that’s why I’m here to help. Good luck!
Last week as you can see on the right hand side, Swan was a jet and Corey followed with a solid 113. Cox was a no show, and the other boys there had respectable scores. 25% of coaches ignored old Calvin and went with Ablett for his 148, which I will never argue with… but Swan did have 10 more ha ha, as if it matters. Hope I have some ripper for you this week!
Collingwood Vs Essendon
Swan – 112
Davis – 106
Stanton – 105
Didak – 83
Lockyer – 66
Well lets start with Didak. He his running hot averaging 141 in his last 3 this year. In 2008 he posted scores of 52 and a huge 122 Vs the Bombers and has the form to match that big number again! Lockyer has gone a little cold in ‘09, only scoring 2×100+ scores in his last 7 games this year. Leon Davis should be back this week so the Pies say and had a huge 150 last time these guys met, which bumps his averages Vs them to 106 in his last 3. Stanton had 139 last time they met and in his last 8 games Vs Collingwood his lowest score is only 83, very solid. No no no, I haven’t forgotten him. DANE SWAN! Righteo… In the last 3 games Vs the Bombers he has had 141, 99, 97. His form is hotter than anyone in the history of DT. It has too be! He has averaged 146 in his last 5 this year with a lowest score of 127 in that time. During those 5 games, he has averaged 37d, 4t a game and has had a total of 11 scoring shots at goal. Last week he had an equal season high of 158 and is back at the MCG where this jet averages 148 in his last 3 there. I’ll shut up now, cause enough is enough! Lock, lock and double lock!
BOTH TEAMS CAN LOCK EM DOWN – In the last 3 weeks both teams have only conceded 8×100+ points to opposition players, equal 4th in the AFL behind St Kilda, Sydney and Geelong. Not a concern for me, just sharing!
LAST TIME THEY MET – Rd. 5, 2009. Essendon won by 5pts. There where HUGE scores from the big guns. Davis had a game high 150 (32d), Swan 141 (37d, 11m), Stants 139 (34d), Ryder 120 and Lockyer a small 64. In this game Heath Hocking tagged Pendlebury who still managed 116 himself.
Melbourne Vs West Coast
Green – 113
Bruce – 105
Cox – 96
Priddis – 56
Not much to chat about here. Cox is big concern and after saying last week he’ll play, I don’t think he will after watching the interview on Fox Sports on the weekend, but then after reading stuff on the AFL website, I think he might. Fingers crossed cause I kept him. He has had 2 weeks off now (with the split round). He has been playing mega consistent with his lowest score of just 91 for the year and only getting over 100+ a modest 66% of the time, Cox is solid as a rock… that might not play, so be careful! Priddis has averaged 127 in his last 2 this year and his average here comes from just 2 games Vs them. Bruce has been on fire (not Swan/Hayes/Gary fire) averaging 116 in his last 3 this year and Brad Green has the best numbers though in this game. With previous scores of 114, 106, 119, 110 in his last 4, Greendawg is the boy you should be betting on here! Not captaining… betting!
LAST TIME THEY MET – Rd. 7. 2009 – West Coast got up by 8. Cale Morton had 146, Cox 112, Bruce 104, Green DNP and for all those Grimes fans out there… he knocked up 109, so don’t bench him this week!
Port Adelaide Vs Brisbane
Brownie – 108
Kane – 73
Not much here either so I’ll make it quick. Kane Cornes averages shit numbers here of just 73 and has only cracked 100+ once in his last 6 Vs them. Jonno Brown has been solid lately averaging 112 in his last 3 this year and has posted previous scores of 107, 106, 111 Vs them with a total of 15 goals in those 3 games. Oh and he had 107 last time he played at AAMI. Next! Oh and Port have given up 14×100+ points to other teams’ players over the last 2 weeks, by far… the worst!!
Richmond Vs Adelaide
Thompson – 106
Cousins – 106
Edwards – 100
Delids – 99
Not much either, in players you’d consider as captain material anyway. Cousins averages 106 in his last 3 Vs the Crows but those numbers are very old dating back into the 2006’s. His highest score is only 90 in ‘09 and still looking to crack the 100 mark. Maybe this week. Delids had scores of 104, 104 Vs the Crows in 2008 but he only cracks the 100+ mark a small 31% of the time this year and is always a risk. Edwards has posted previous scores of 96, 124, 80, 114 Vs the Tigers and might be ok. Scott Thompson had a small 74 last week but before that he averaged 119 in the 3 games prior. Against the Tigers in 2008 he averaged a huge 122 and is your most certain 100+ scoring player in this group!
Western Dawgs Vs Hawthorn
Gia – 117
Cross – 109
Mitchell – 94
Boyd – 83
Sewell - 83
Righteo… Sam Mitchell has be on fire! He has averaged 140 in jis last 2 games of ‘09, but will most likely get the Picken tag this week I’m tipping. Sewell had 136 last time he played these guys in ‘08 and Buddy gets the arse from here again, cause he sucks. Gia is OUT so don’t pick him, but he does have huge numbers Vs the Hawks though. Crossy has averaged 120 in his last 2 of 2008 and had a huge 151 last time they met the Hawks back in ‘08. So consider him this week. Boyd has played the Hawks 6 times in his career and has not yet posted a 100+ score, too risky!
CHANGE OF GUARD – The Hawks were a team at the start of the year where DT points were a plenty. They are starting to lock down dudes. Ranked equal 4th in the AFL for restricting 100+ scores they have only given up 8×100+ scores in the last 3 weeks. True!
Sydney Vs Kangaroos
Kirk – 88
Jude – 78
What do I say here? What can say here? I don’t usually do this but… NEXT GAME! Oh hang on, might as well mention this. The Swans are ranked equal 1st for locking players down under 100+ in the last 3 weeks along side Geelong, only giving up 3! NEXT!
Fremantle Vs Carlton
Gibbs – 117
Sandilands – 95
Marc – 94
Judd – 69
Firstly, Pav is out so don’t pick him. Sandilands gets a gig this week as last time he played them he had a huge 139 (25d, 42h/o). Marc Murphy has gone a little quiet in his last 4 this year only scoring 1×100+ score in his last 4. Juddy had 107 last time they met with no Crowley. Crowley not there last time, obviously and Juddy went well, but with an average of just 69 Vs the Dockers it just shows what a great tagger Crowley was. I’m tipping a big one here from Bryce Gibbs. Last time they met he knocked up a huge 142 and the time before that 93. Bryce has slipped a little under the radar in recent weeks and I think he will go go BANG this week with a 120+.
LAST TIME THEY MET – Rd. 7, 2009. Freo won by 7. Gibbs had the game high with 142 (31d, 13m, 6t), Sandi 139, Marc 130, Juddy 107 and for the record Pav had 91.
St Kilda Vs Geelong
Bartel – 129
Hayes – 113
Montagna – 113
Corey – 106
Ablett – 105
Stevie J – 104
Goddard – 89
Voldt – 87
Selwood – 86
Chapman – 74
Santo – 61
Here it is! Finally! Screw the fact it’s undefeated Vs undefeated look at the names I have up there! Shit. Right let’s go!
St KILDA – Goddard averages a solid 89 here and is coming off a huge 128 last week. Montanga was tagged out of the game last week by Daniel Jackson, but still scratched up 85. He averages 113 here Vs the Cats in his last 3 games this year and that is made up of scores of 108, 134, 98 and a 101 after that 4 games back. Voldt is only scoring 100+ scores 69% of the time in ‘09 which surprised me a little and here he looks ok. Averaging 87 with a very tiny 54 last time he played them. Before that he had 104, 104, 119, solid as!! Lenny Hayes averages a huge 113 here and averages a massive 7t a game Vs the Cats in his last 4. Lenny is always good for a lot of points in that catergory. He averages 121 at Eti in his last 3 and has knocked up a massive 9×100+ scores in a row this year. On Fire!!! Against the Cats he has previous scores of 112, 122, 106, 129, 104! Shit. The Cats always tag Santo with the Pig and back themselves to go head to head with the likes of Montagna and obviously Lenny, could be a good option.
GEELONG – Stevie J has averaged 113 at Eti this year and had a nice 132 last time he was there. With previous scores of 101, 87 and 123, Stevie has the potential to fire this week! Chapman has only cracked the 100 mark once Vs the Saints in 12 games and with a 46 last time they met you might be better looking elsewhere this week, despite his crazy form of averaging 128 in his last 3 this year, maybe… Selwood’s average of 86 is just made up of 2 games and as Chopper says “Sell-wouldn’t”. Joel Corey has had previous scores of 105, 106, 108 and is a player that will get you that 90-110 score week in week out, but if you’re chasing a big 120+ then keep reading. Jimmy Bartel averages a massive 129 in his last 3 games Vs the Saints. He only averages 93 at Eti this year but does have previous scores of 123, 114, 150 averaging 32d in that time. He must be considered by you for the job this week thats for sure. Last time these teams played Gary Ablett had 129, that is the only 100+ score he had Vs the Saints in his career of 11 games. Now, I said that last week when he played Port and he smashed out a huge 148, so don’t look into that too much. He averages 121 at Eti this year and as always Gary must be in your calculations again this week.
LAST TIME THEY MET – Q-Final 2008. Now I don’t usually do one of these unless they have already met in 2009. But this is an exception that will hopefully give us a little insight into the styles/tends/plans of the last time they met. Pink Pig tagged Santo who only had 61. 8 Cats scored over 100 and 4 St Kilda dudes got over the 100 mark.
THE GAME WILL STOP THE NATION – Jimmy and Gary are big game players. Last time they played the Saints was in a Q-Final, on the big stage where Gary had 129 (35d) and Jimmy had 123 (34d) = both top scorers in that game. The nation will stop to watch this game and these boys will look to shine again under the spot light. Look out.
MY ONLY CONCERNS – Guns Vs Guns, and is there enough points to go around? In the last weeks, St Kilda and Geelong have been playing other teams who do not have the quality to match them, therefore having huge scores against them. This week they do! St Kilda have held opposition players to 3×100+ scores over the last 3 weeks and the Cats have held their opposition players to 6×100+. Yes, yes, yes the points will flow, but surely not like they have for these teams over the season so far… my top 5 doesn’t seem to be too concerned though ha ha

Righteo… my overall average is now 117.5 after Swanny went mad last week. This week I will not be over looking the big jet again and will be going Swanny! But… I hate Friday night captains, but it must be done. Good luck!

My man big Swanny this week again
Swan is scoring better but his price is way too inflated at the moment, Gablett can keep up with him and is probably better value…but I dunno, depends if you could use the change from getting Gablett elsewhere, but a good problem to have none the less
Thanks Leigh – I think youre right – GAJ is the logical choice. Bit worried about his groin though, despite what Bomber says.
Calvin’s comments on Gibbs are interesting too. I could get him instead, make him captain, and have a shitload of cash in the bank. And Gibbs never gets tagged.
Is GAJ worth $100,000 more than Gibbs? Decisions, decisions.
Bartel…Hayes…Bartel…Hayes….I dont know!
Cale morton twice vs west coast twice in 140’s is it worth the punt
Im tossing between Aaron Davey (vs West Coast), or Sandilands (vs Carlton. Davey does have a high kick to handball ratio
I’m also going Sandilands this week. He’s on fire and hit outs alone will assure he gets a decent score.
The Geelong boys may find it harder than usual this week. It’s a different St.Kilda than they’ve played. I expect they be under 400 posessions this week for the first time in yonks.
You can’t go past Ablett – I mean, I probably shouldn’t be commenting here coz I’m a rookie and I know everyone in this forum will know a lot more than me (!), but it seems this season Ablett has been the safest bet. I don’t have Swan in my team, mind you and if that option was on the table I might be signing a different tune! Anyway, good luck all.
Many people are thinking that welsh might get swan and lock him down. Word to all, when swan cops a tag he moves to the half forward line and pushes up the wings. Essendon can’t afford to have welsh out of the middle with jobe out. im thinking knights will put welsh on pendles, leaving swanny to roam free against stanton. DT points for ALL!!!
lock in didak thanks eddy!!..gun 100+ no doubt
Got Bartel and Ablett… last week was the last week that I choose him over Ablett as captain. It lost me my league match (lost by 48 pts, Ablett scored 60 odd more).
Ablett all the way till end of season
