Counting the Carnage: Round 10

NOW UPDATED WITH OFFICIAL CLUB INJURY LISTS.

Quite a few common Dream Team players have some doubt over them this week… or are confirmed to be missing one, or maybe more, weeks. We’ve been snooping around to find the latest.

The Cats are likely to be without Joel Corey (foot) for a couple of weeks with his plantar fasciitis injury. Tom Harley (hamstring) will miss the 2-3 weeks that most hammys take and keep an eye on Gary Ablett (ankle) who will face a bit of a test after a slight roll of his ankle. The Dockers will be counting the cost of their loss to the Tigers with Stephen Hill (corked thigh) and Michael Johnson (ankle) looking doubtful, with Des Headland (quad) and Luke McPharlin (ribs) likely to miss a couple. The ‘positive’ out of this is that Hayden Ballantyne should get a run after his 5 goal efford in the WAFL on the weekend. The other big name is Chad Cornes (calf/achilles) who might be rested until after the break.

As always, watch this space!

  1. ahh beat me to it donut hehe

one more thing.. a couple of weeks ago i told myself “its time to sit on trades”.. but every week since then i’ve used two haha

damn those irresistable rookies and underpriced guns :p if only i’d known taylor walker was going to play another decent game.. then i woulda waited for ballantyne instead of getting austin! oh well.. next year

  2. I’ve always liked the way Ellis has played, I may consider him (Already got lockyer, goddard, fisher and gilbee) – frees up some cash too.

  3. What sort of scores would you expect from Ellis anyway, upgrade Hill maybe? He’s got a BE of 113, it it worth holding off till after next week or is he a chance to get it (dunno who hawks are playing next), dunno much about him in general hence all my questions :S

  4. i’d say a very outside chance to get 113.. he’s only broken 100 twice before, one was 130+ in the grand final
he’ll be a better player this year than last year though so who knows
ideally you’d wait a week and see how he goes and get him a tad cheaper, but if you’re keeping him for the season, a 10k saving isn’t the biggest issue. if it was covering a donut i’d say go for it, if not then maybe wait.

he’s by no means a sure thing..
he’s riskier than the proven guns as he seems a bit injury prone, but the reward is greater as he’s cheaper and he’s a somewhat unique pick with only 1% having him.. i’d say most would opt for a fisher/enright type but this could be what sets you apart

serious business the old dream team :-)

  5. Just as Roy has taken young Gibbsy under his wing, I consider Ellis as “my boy”. I had him all of last year, and while I obviously had many more higher-scoring players, X was far-and-away my favourite. Any time you’ve got DT-listed defenders playing in the midfield is a time to rejoice. I’ll be banking on 80s from him this year, with the odd 100 thrown in.

    Chook’s Rooks up soon.

  6. who people go on steven salopek dropped a fair bit can rack in the big scores not sure what his injust was if he had one but is cheap as chips anyone cod give me some info?

  7. gonna hold out on chad but if houlihan gets dropped again then straight to ellis. not putting up with another long stint of rattens rubbish.
then again grimes is my 7th defender but if his back injury flare up again ill keep a trade saved especially for him to X-man

  8. @ Donut

Not as big a smokie now you mentioned him, fuck. I was factoring him in as soon as I saw him named last week.

  9. hey boys, thinking of trading skipworth out before his price falls…need someone in a similar price range, what does everyone think of rhan hooper. bit of a risk i know, but value for money would you say.

1st year doing this, so a bit of a newbie, would love all the help i can get.

  10. @team: Salopek seems to be going under the radar, but between his injury game and limited TOG in his first game after injury he is super cheap and should be good for a 100 average or very close. I haven’t checked his BE yet but I think he will fall one more time before he starts rising again- I am almost definitely getting on him next week. Shame he isn’t counted as a back in DT!

  11. @ WCE_Oh_what_a_year

Beams and Barham are going to find it hard to make their way back into the Pies side. With Medhurst in our best 22 and a definite inclusion in the next couple of weeks and with Wellingham and Dick finally looking like they belong (and having v. good disposal) I can’t see Barham getting back at all. Beams might be a chance, but Sidebottom looks really clean and Johnson is ready to return from his broken leg (not that I would want him back – but Mick has a soft spot for him). You would be really counting on injuries to see either of them back this year.

  12. Boomer Harvey listed as back in 4 weeks (one of which is the split round, so back for round 14). He’s only had an arm injury, so you’d think he would have kept fit during the injury layoff and will come straight back in then.

If people are still looking for cheap premiums then, he could be a good one.

  13. @Raf – it would be hard for Boomer run with his arm in a sling and weak muscles around the joint holding it in place.

  14. He’s already out of the cast/sling/thingy.

  15. Anyone know what the feck is going on with the BIG GUS Angus Graham? he isn’t listed on the injury list and don’t think he played for Coburg last week…

  16. FREMANTLE

  17. No mention of Broughton! Yay hopefully just one donut in the backs for me – unless Raines makes a surprise return.

  18. There should be a poll on what people will do with CHAD.

  19. ablett a test for geelong =[
does anyone think there is much to that?

  20. Ablett came off late in the game on the weekend, hard to say how bad it was. Geelong have some potential horror outs this week- may be the first time in 3 years that the Cats are seriously having their depth tested. On the other hand, all guys listed as “test” might play…

Good to see no Broughton on the list, and no Ballantyne suggests he might get a game this week in place of Headland. Pity St Kilda aren’t being forthcoming about Gilbert, there’s going to be some panic stations in some teams if he’s missing as well as Chad.

  21. Ah, I see Ross lyon has said Gilbert & Milne are “likely” to play. Cue the late withdrawals I guess.

  22. hey guys,
    just a question
if u could have any dream team midfielder who would it be, ie already got ablett, gibbs and swan and have enough cash for a gun so who would it be:
    montanga
    bartel
    selwood
    judd
    other
    help help help

  23. If price ain’t an issue, then Hayes for mine. He gets enough tackles to ensure big scores even when he isn’t racking up the touches – which he gets heaps of anyway.

  24. a saint or a cat,
    probably bartel

as a crows fan i would be tempted into scott thompson – blue chip !

  25. Sam Gilbert (ankle) – TBA

WTF since when was he injured, with CHAD thats annoying

god dam thank good i got back up (broughton and dawson)

  26. gilbert came came back on the field so he musn’t be to bad only know more about it

  27. CHAD CORNES who is the best choice under his price (ellis maybe) what do peeps think

  28. chad for adcock … what do people think ?

  29. can you have too many saints players??
i have fisher and gilbert in the backs
    riewoldt up forward
and am looking at taking chooks advice and getting lenny hayes in the middle??
    too many sainters????

  30. I was a bees dick away from trading Waite to cornes. Lucky i went for Lockyer at the last minute or I would have been mighty fucked off! anyone know how beams and barham went in the vfl

  31. at matt beams was apparently best on field i read it on the afl website

  32. Beams was listed as about 5th best. Still, with Collingwood’s inclusions lately he’d have to be playing pretty well and have someone decent dropped/injured to get selected again.

  33. More promblems – Gilbert did not train tuesday

  34. I reckon Gilbert will be named this week but be a late withdrawal. The Saints have Hudghton and Maguire available to come in- it’s not like they’d be bringing in someone 3rd rate, why take a chance?

  35. @Raf – just sayin’ his joint will still be repairing and will be too loose for the impact of jogging/sprints for a while. Speaking from experience (minus AFL oriented doctor).

When he is playing he won’t be able to extend his arm as much, so his non-chest-marking, tackling, (possibly) handballing will reduce. His impact will be confined to a small forward, and not really DT relevant.

  36. @Disco: Yeah, could be… I saw him at a club breakfast after the Freo game and he seemed very gung-ho about getting back into training and making an early comeback, and everyone else seemed positive about how his recovery is going (as compared to Pratt: Pratt himself reckoned he would be able to go straight back into the seniors for the Brisbane game, but no-one else seemed to think so).

I don’t think they would bring him back in just to play small forward, if he’s not fit to play midfield he won’t play.

In any event, Dalziell should be back around the same time, so there will be options in the “late cheap gun” pool :)

  37. Is Sam Gilbert injured…???

  38. Whats the word on Goose McGuire…??

    Surely he’d return soon…??

Is there any latest on Hill from Freo…

  39. Mark Harvey on Hayden Ballantyne.
“I think once we get him in you’ll see him in for a substantial period of time.”

  40. “Joel Corey is struggling with plantar fasciitis, a foot condition which St Kilda champion Robert Harvey once famously solved by jumping off a chair onto a concrete floor until he snapped the offending band of tissue that runs from the heel along the arch of the foot, thus enabling him to play again.”
