Word from the tracks – Updated
More word from the training tracks here. All teams are here with a small summary of some players who are moving well early in 2009. Happy New Year by the way!!
RICHMOND
Brett Deledio and Nathan Foley are dominating, like they do every year on the track early. Coughlan is training well after his mid season hamstring treatment in Germany. The talk of the Tigers track however is Daniel Jackson and Matt White, who both smashed the 13min mark ina recent time trail, something assistant coach Brian Royal says he hasn’t seen at the club in ages!!!
Read on DT Fans!!
ADELAIDE
Few operations to some important players in the Adelaide Camp will have Burton, Porpz and McLeod pushing to be right for Rd 1. They should be ok and are on track, but ones to keep an eye on. Trent Hentschel is back running around, which is wicked news after his massive knee injuries!
ESSENDON
With alot of eyes on Brent Prismall, fans will be happy to know he is back training after his knee reco, but won’t play the 1st part of next season, but will most likely play from the half way mark. A perfect time to cash in a rookie for this DT gun. Scott Gumbleton (#2 pick in 2006) has failed to really impress in his short career so far, but with his injuries behind him, he is tearing up the track this year and is moving better than ever. He clocked 15.2 in the beep test, which is not bad for a 200cm unit.
MELBOURNE
Aaron Davey not only has tanked up a little but has been the stand out so far at Melbourne trainings. Plus they say “for a guy who has come out of the rehab group and to be in the shape he’s in… is very, very good.” Kyle Cheney and James Frawley are the other names being thrown around down there as dudes who are progressing very well heading into ‘09. Read on lads for more teams.
BRISBANE
After a poor ‘08, it appear Jed Adcock may be back. He is the one burning the track at Brissie and has everyone talking him up for a huge role in 2009. Tom Collier and Troy Selwood have bulked up, adding on 6-7 kilos each!
FREMANTLE
Dodd and Crowley ran 1st and 2nd in the 3kn run and are said to be in wicked fitness form. Des Headland and Hayden are also said to be in awesome nick, and for Des who missed a good chuck of 08 after knee issues, means he seems to be back and ready to go in 09.
COLLINGWOOD
Dale Thomas and Pendlebury have impressed with much improved fitness early on reaching ‘new’ fitness levels! Chris Dawesis apparently benefiting from a full pre-season this year and is coming along massively after leg troubles in ‘08. Ben Johnson and good old naughty Didakhave also been talked up with improved track performances and… get this … impressive attitudes. Good on ya lads.
CARLTON
Nothing special to report from the Blues. Gibbs, Hartlett, Hill, Hampson and many more young-stars have been applauded for their efforts so far. However, Ratten says 2010 will be the year for the Blues, with their guns reaching more maturity in their 4th/5th years.
HAWTHORN
Firtly, boo to you Hawthorn. They have refused to discus training performance of indiviuals this year, come on! Anyway, X Ellis (hip) and Hodgey (shoulder) are likely to miss NAB Cup but are expected to be OK for round 1. Can the Hawks back up 2008, or will they start with the premiership hang over??
GEELONG
Simon Hogan no relation to Hulk Hogan but spent abit of time last year in the Cats side listed as an ‘Emergency’ booooo, but he has been putting in the big yards and running kick arse times and pushing for a mid field position (good luck). This is his 3rd pre-season and dominated the VFL at times in ‘08. Keep a watch!
KANGAROOS
Andrew Swallow ummm, no jokes here. He is in his 3rd Pre-season and after only playing 3 games in 2008 and then busting an ankle in the VFL, he is back running better than ever and is the Roos standout this year so word has it. Potential mid fielder! Lachlan Hansen is going nicely, looking fit and is up there in the top few in time trails.
PORT ADELAIDE
Nathan Krakouer is the hot tip coming out of Port. He has been burning the tracks and has added 4kg to his build and is over his issues of 08 and ready to go! Trav Boak and Paul Stewart are others who have been named as potential guns based on early pre-season efforts.
St KILDA
Leigh Fisher has been the stand out performer since returning flogging everyone on the track with wicked arse times. Young-stars Eddy and Geary have also been up there doing well. But not as good as The Fish.
SYDNEY
Jarrod McVeigh is running PB’s and naughty R. Shaw has been going pretty well in his new colours. Tadhg, Goodes, Mattner and Craig Bolton should all be back in full training after a few injuries by January.
WEST COAST
Mitch Brown is whooping them all in the time trails but its gun mid fielder Chris Masten who had an interrupted debut season who is turning heads. He ran 2nd in the 2km run (6mins 25sec) and is absolutely on track for a HUGE 2009. He has also stacked on some extra bulk as well!! – and I don’t mean Dean Rioli bulk!!
BULLDOGS
Cooney and Robert Murphy are both back on the track after knee surgeries in October, and both have had no set backs so far. Gilbee, Boyd and Cross are motoring as normal, and Shawn Higgins the tips from the kennel. Everyone seems impressed with Higgins, look out 2009.
Feel free to add anything here DT Fans that you may have read or seen!!!

good read, saved me a bit of time having to search around for this. planning to do the other teams as well?
i forgot about mitch brown, his first season looked good then i think he did a knee for the 08 season so i dont no if i will take the risk on him for 09.
do u think masten could be a starter next year and get good scores?
wat about the bombers and andrew lovett?? pfft…
davey is a machine now.
whats going on?
Yo DT Boys……Happy New year when it gets here!…..just thought I would jump in early!
Good work fellas but personally I’m not a fan of “ripping up” pre-season reports simply because in my experience those that are ripping up the pre-season, so often go MIA during the regular season.
happy new year
Looking at Hi Ho Davey’s body it looks like he’ll be a LOCK for me this year! He had a short but HOT run of form last year, and i like guys who come back from adversity (think Stevie J, Didak). Gun for ‘09.
Not sold on aaron davey for DT yet, put up 3 30’s out of his 18 games last year. Will have to wait and see if he is getting more midfield time in the pre season.
was the short hot run when he had 2 90’s then a 50?
What do you guys think about Richardson? Maybe wait till his price drops?
yeah will i would wait with richo, i want to see what role he will be playing with cousins and maybe coughlan back in the team. he might go back into the forward line and his figures may drop if that happens. also he had a very high average and for him to keep up with that at the start of the year will be hard so he might drop a bit in price.
also i dont think burton is going to be right for round 1, i think he will be ready to play in the second half of the season
How long do people give cogs before he breaks down??
I reckon he’ll twang a hammy after about 6 weeks, good enough to make some money though……i mainly just wanted to see my picture though!
Twang a hammy in 6 weeks?? Bit rough!
Maybe 5 weeks, ha nah, he’ll be alright our boy Ben.
Will Richmond actually go ok this year?? Any Tigers fans out there?? They are paying $1.95 to make the 8 (sportingbet)and $3.40 for top 4 (TOTE)
I dont think richmond will make the top 8 not enough goal scoring options
I think Richmond will get 9th again this year. Cousins is the question mark for this year’s DT for me. Cousins or Haselby?
Cuz for me over Haselby… Haselby is only just starting running and shit I hear (is that right) at least Cuz is a freaking jet! But I am a Cuz fan!
haha y not both??
i know most of u geuys might wave this offer away but if anyones interested there is a dreamteam tennis thing 4 the aus open
supertennis.com.au
ha ha yeah dream team tennis – me and warnie are in – shit knows who I picked ha ha
153371 thats our code if anyone wants to stuff round with us, go hewy!!
cool – i’m joining
Been reported that Robbie Warnock, who is apparently a star ruckman during according to the media (moving clubs to Carlton obviously raised his skill level overnight!) has a foot injury that will sideline him for at least 8 weeks. Makes him a bit of a risk to pick as a ruckman for those who figured his price will rise as #1 ruck at Carlton.
Haha, sucked in Cartlon, thats karma for all your tanking efforts, hes the new cain ackland: 400K a year and does SFA.
Hey fellas,
i’ve sort of made a team for this season thanks to fanfooty planner. I have got a few guys who i need opinions on.
Simon Buckley
Chenyee Stiller
Alwyn Davey
And finally has anyone got a suggestion for some cheap ruckmen
Cheers
Im in the tennis league too boys.
Good news is for Calvin at least he cant pick Nathan Jones in tennis dreamteam. haha
hey buddy if ur looking for a bench ruck that might play a couple of games this season i would look at McKernan. from what i have been reading his looking alright and might get a couple of games late in the season.
but if ur looking for starting ruck i think people along Ottans,Charman and McIntosh r all cheap and could def go up in price and give u a good average if they stay uninjured
I’m going to push for everyone to pick up Christian Bock as their 4th ruck (that you don’t need playing.. and never makes you money anyway – this was discussed on the coaches box)… Bocky’s little bro!! He won’t get a run… but it would be sweet to have him in the side! haha…
love the nathan jones comment
haha XD
cheers dylan
has anyone got an opinion on buckley, stiller and alwyn davey?
why get McKernan who might get games late in the season when you can get currie who has a good chance of getting games early? As molly says, Currie is a hot prospect.
@ buddy
i reckon buckley is a friggin dt gun but his price was a little high on the fan footy planner… maybe wait 4 his price 2 go down a bit??
not sure about stiller but i’m a bombers boy and think that if davey stays injury free for the rest of the year he would be a good cash cow looking at his price…
hahaha fair enough then warnie XD
the reason i said McKernan is because i go for the crows so i read about them chad. i dont have a clue who currie is but if his looking to get some games early his in my side.
cheers of the idea chad
When looking at Simon Buckley you need to think why you are buying him when you can get Lindsay Gilbee or Grant Birchall for a few thousand more. Both have proven DT records over many seasons. And unlike Buckley they have been in their teams best 22 for a long time and have barely missed any games through injuries.
Stiller is a risk.
Had a good DT record under Leigh Matthews, but he was geting dropped last season. It is really unknow whether Voss will like the way he plays or consider him in Brisbane’s best 22. The same can be said about Troy selwood. Found himself dropped last year by Matthews but previously had a respectable DT average . Personally id steer clear of paying $300k for a player who might not be in the best 22.
Chad – my mistake re: Davey. His hot run of form was in 2007 (ave 97 over 7 weeks). So maybe he hasn’t convinced me just yet.
Hey boys, any chance of a pre-season episode in the near future? Can’t wait until Round 1.
Hey Greg! We are trying to get our act together to come up with something… no promises, but *hopefully* early next week! Along with a new website design!! Fingers crossed!
for all you looking for cheapies for a start
steele sidebottom – collingwood
Daniel Rich – Brisbane
ruckman
leuenberger brisbane
kruzer – carlton
forwards
taylor walker – crows
ryan gamble – cats
defenders
jarrad allen – saints
matt maguire – saints – he will be cheap
established stars to look at that will give you good consistent points
simon black
adam simpson
ben cousins
chris judd
these four above will all be between 200000 and 300000
Brad Symes has injured his hand… out for about 8 weeks!

Shadow, No.
