eam Team Talk League. Last year I beat Vin in a massive Grand Final battle. This year, I have massively been the hunted! I am currently ranked 2nd overall in our league by points and national ranking… but am languising in 8th spot now having to win this week to make the finals series!
I must admit, things haven’t been smooth at Team Warne Dawgs… a few players delisted through shitness, a few season ending injuries and plenty of blokes who have promise, but haven’t delivered (read: shit decisions made by the head coach). But I am proud at the moment to have a national ranking of (don’t laugh) 2725- peaked around 1200, been out to 6000. But seriously! Second ranked DT out of our league, but 8th on the ladder! It sucks heaps! (I’m feeling your pain too Goatsy - who is 4th overall in our league but in 10th and can’t make the 8). Look at the Jethro Tullers - my opponent this week - 3rd on the ladder but 12th overall (even Vin scored more than him this week). Throw me a fricken bone here!

Do me a favour Warnie, spell definitely like I have? Apart from that the champs will always be hunted. I’m sure a number of your opponents have traded to cover donuts just to knock you off when they have against other opposition. If it means anything, you’ll have an easier run next season (you won’t win from 8th with the number of trades you do).
in my league i’m ranked fourth in total points and coming fourth in ladder. What i hate is when you think you have an easy game cos the guy your playing is struggling at the lower end of total points and ladder but somehow just against you he comes out with a brilliant score that beats u!!!

Sam - I have sat with injuries and duds being dropped a bit too much to try to look after trades… that cost me a bit (ie. Bowden, Jeff White, Symes)… but yeah, people have traded to knock me off! haha… pricks!

Like Warne Dawg i’ve been 2nd overall in ranking points in my league yet i kept losing games!! fricken ridiculous. but now ive climbed to 6th in the league (won 8 of last 9 after starting with 3 losses and a DRAW in first 5 rounds) and can finish as high as 3rd.
I have vast dreamteam finals experience. having never lost a finals match.
So bring it on!!

im 3rd overall in points in my league.. only 7th on the ladder and if i drop another game im out the top 8.. T_T i score high consistant scores compared to the rest of my league but they just seem to keep pulling shit outa their arse when they play against me ..
Warnie, mate, I have the same problems. Number 1 on overall ranking, but sitting 8th. Need to win this week to stay in cause 9th and 10th are on the same points and are playing each other. Its fucked. I should have a win, though. But, thats not the first time I have said that this season.

Isnt it annoying when people who are low on the ladder start resorting to saying “but i’ve scored more overall, my total score is better, my ranking is better”. Who cares?? If you’re in it for league glory you have to win games. It’s that simple. Consistency gets you the four points each week. Enough excuses i say. Nobody in your league cares if you’ve scored more overall, you need to score more than the person you’re playing, pretty simple theory.

Fat, the point is that we pride ourselves on a high national ranking. Some of us anyway. DT is an awesome thing like that! People try for league wins, eliminator wins and national ranking. Your comment is a little silly when you say consistency gets u 4 pts… that’s the thing. I’m consistent, its the people that average lower scores and score well above their average against u! The ones who burnt all their trades 5 weeks ago!

Yeah, silly fatty. Bragging rights of highest NR are just important to my league than the final. Well, maybe not cause we have $150 on the line, but still. And, my team always scores 1800-1900, but then cunts that score 1400 come out and score 2000 on me. Its fucked. Haha.
Well I guess the priority comes down to Warnie what would you prefer:
1) A league win
2) Protect your NR
3) An eliminator win
At the start they are all acheived with the same line of trading. But as the season progresses, and trades dwindle, you can’t keep trading as you’ll post average scores towards the end of the season. You need to cover some injuries with bench players so you save trades for finals.
For me it is about the league win as it is my mates I have beers with and ‘play’ against that I can brag to or cop flak from. If someones giving it to you for rolling you with Stanton as cap, coming back with “yeah… but… I have a higher NR than you” gets you as far as Britney playing Mastermind.
But that’s just us.
Having said that, if I made the final 64 of the Eliminator, I’m sure that would change my mind! It’s been a great new addition.

I think I win this one. My team Grahame Ghosts in League 556879 has scored 32510 points, is ranked overall at 1780 in the competition and, due to a series of incredible upsets, CANNOT make the finals - will finish in Richmond’s 9th spot. Just not my year!!

Yeah, it all comes down to priorities, you’re right smerg. There’s a couple of people in our league who get massively hunted, people trade big just to beat them, sound like warnie’s situation too.
warne diggity dawg. i think you’re also forgetting that those total point figures include the ‘pre-season’ figures, i.e points gained only for NR purposes so they may not be of significance for those focussing on league wins. looking at the points against column its not like you’ve had the roughest trot in the league either…

I’ll be playing finals this year in my league, with a between 7-10 ranked total score.
It’s all based on the ability to select the correct captain every week and to cover doughnuts with your rookies. If someone makes the finals every week based on having 22 players every week and another player makes the finals with 1000 less points, but has selected their captains well, picked good emergencies and played with only 20 players ever week (due to injuries), which coach has had the better year?
It’s easy to look at a coach and think you’ll beat them because you’ve scored 1000 points more overall or are higher on the ladder, but at the end of the day its a game of chance. You may have Ablett, Brown, Pavlich but if they have Valenti, Brad Ebert and Sam Longergan and those 3 players score 300 more points what relevance does being on top of your league make?
