Calvin’s Captains - Rd 16

Calvin’s Captains

WOW! With Mark Thompson say Gary Ablett was ‘no chance’ to suit up this week, it appears that Calvin is here to the rescue! I found some rippers for you here too. But first… have you seen this weeks DT Talk episode? Oh my! Albert Lord gives his hilarious formulas for captain selection. Get on it! This week the numbers look the same with the average worked out over the past three games Vs their opponent. Keep in mind that you will need to check injuries, suspensions and stuff like that as the week progresses. DT Talk is where it is at though!

Kangaroos $2.30 Vs Collingwood $1.55

  • Harvey - 99

  • Medhurst - 106

  • Swan - 86

  • Didak - 89

  • H. Shaw - 79

Interesting start here. Oh, I showed the game odds too, cause I’m betting on the greyhounds online (watching Sky Racing) as I write this so I thought I add that too. Right, focus! Brent Harvey here looks great. He’s had 28+ touches in his last 5 games this year and is averaging 103 on form! Running hot Boooomer! Swan has been everyones boy lately averaging 102 in his last three games this year. He only averages 86 here as he only knocks up 21d a game Vs the Roos. VT’s boys Medhurst has averaged 106 in his last 2 games Vs the Roos and has form on his side too, averaging 99 in his last 3. Nothing huge taking my fancy here though!

LAST TIME THEY MET: Rd 5 - Roos won by 7. Medhurst had 126 (5.2g), Harvey 117 (34d), Didak 116 (29d, 8m), Simpson had 106, Swan 74 and Shitty Heath had 59.

Geelong $1.65 Vs Western Dawgs $2.10

  • Bartel - 112

  • Cross - 109

  • Chapman - 105

  • Corey - 94

  • Ablett - 101

I have included Ablett here, just incase (very tiny tiny chance) but as I have already mentioned, he is O.U.T. He did have 130 last time he played them though, so cross your fingers and toes. Bartel is the sure thing here though averaging 112 a game. He has been averaging 129 in his last 3 games in ‘08 (134, 145, 107) with an average of 34d a game. Last time Jimmy played the Dawgs back in 2007, he had his season high of 38d! Right just put $10 on “Tin Roof Rusted” in honour of the injured Pink Pig, currently $7 up I am (lost $20, won $27). Daniel Cross had a handy 137 last time he played them, that consisted of 37d and 6t, compared to Cooney’s poor 12d. Arg, dam you Rusted Pig, got 3rd. Chapman looks ok here and maybe worth a thought. He has scored 6×100’s in the last 8 games he has played against them. Just got on a dog, ‘McGarry’ and he just lost for me too, giving Garry Ablett no chance of playing this week, I’m currently down $17. Joel Corey had a nice 120 (30d) last time he played the Dawgs and has averaged a very nice 122 in his last 2 game this year. Plenty to consider here. I’m tipping the Dawgs to loose here though, going on my form with the real ‘dogs’ so far tonight.

Richo $1.85 Vs Esstanton $1.85

  • Richo - 111

  • Stanton - 75

SHIT! SHIIITT! Nooo! Someone owes my $53. Just forgot to ‘confirm’ my bet and therefore missed a race cause of this! I was working on DT material, on the clock, so this is coming out of the depleted DT Talk budget boys! Argg! Right… Stanton, how good is he. Oh my! What a guru, a god! I’ve always rated him. His like a #6 dog paying $33’s to win. He’ll get up every now and then, and when he does, you’ll hear about it. Now he did get up last week, in fine fashion. The boy can play, but he’s not the #1,2,3 or 4 selection each week for the big C, surely not. Anyway my hat is off and yes… my bad he was brilliant. He averages 75 here but coming off his massive 174 (32d, 9t, 12m, 3g) he has great DT form, but he has never scored over 100 Vs Richmond, and will most likely cop a Hyde or Tuck tag. Richo should be back this week and has scored 3×100’s in his last 4 Vs the Bombers, plus that 189 he had in 2006. Richo averages 20d and 13m in his last 3 Vs Essendon and should be considered.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Rd 9 - Tigers won by 28. Foley and Nath Brown clocked up 122 each, Richo took 14m and 19d (107). Hille was the only 100+ for Essendon with 111 and Stanton copped the Hyde tag for his 64.

Brisbane $1.22 Vs West Coast $3.80

  • Cox - 130

  • Brown - 96

  • Black -100

  • Priddis - 102

  • Embley - 56

Dean Cox clap clap clap. Not bad is he? In his last 3 games Vs the Lions he’s had 121, 136 and 134 at an average of 130. He also averages 130 in his last 3 games this year that looks like 23d and 30 h/o. Oh my! Simon Black is expected to play, as is J.B despite a few small injuries. Black has being very quiet over his last 3 this year averaging just 65. Browny has scored 7×100’s from the last 8 times he’s played this year and is looking awesome to go with his solid average of 96 Vs the Eagles. Kerr had another brain snap last week and is once again out.

St Kilda $2.35 Vs Hawthorn $1.52

  • Reivoldt - 117

  • Hayes - 112

  • Buddwooood - 89

  • Mitchell - 89

  • Hodge - 81

Reivoldt has a nice average here and great form under his belt as he averages 134 in the last 3 he has played this year (24d, 15m). He averages 19d, 12m and 3.2g a game Vs the Hawks and is your #1 bet here. Lenny Hayes has scored 4×100’s in a row Vs the Hawks and most likely will do this again! Go ‘Hooded Chill’ … go go go… WHIP IT … shit hooded dick (2nd)! Down $27. Shit! Buddy has averaged 89 in his last 2 Vs them and if he has his kicking boots on, he might kick better than the 11.18g he has kicked in the last 4 weeks and be the guy who cracks the 200pt mark… maybe one day. Sam Mitchell’s last 4 scores Vs the Saints sit at 59, 118, 91 and 139 which shows he might have a good one too.

Carlton $2.10 Vs Sydney $1.65

  • Kirk - 98

  • Judd - 90

  • Marc - 82

  • Stevo - 75

Marc has been very cold, averaging 78 in his last 3 this year which is well below his season average of 97. Kirk on the other hand also averages 97 this year, but has averaged 26+d, 8t a game is his last 5 this year with an average of 118 in his last 3, he looks the one here. He has also scored an impressive 5×100’s in row! Go Kirkdawg! Stevo’s last 3 scores of 51, 121 and 122 tell the story of a bad last week, but if you want consistency. Introducing… Chris Judd. He averages 28d a game V the Swans and averages a perfect 100 in his last 10 games Vs them, yep that right! 10!! Wow!!

Port Adelaide $1.85 Vs Adelaide $1.85

  •  Chad - 118

  • Edwards - 101

  • Goodwin - 111

  • Thompson - 84

  • Kane - 80

Right, on two dogs here. ‘Little Egyptian’ and ‘Lochinvar Polo’. Egyptian down, I repeat Egyptian down, Calvin down $37. Chad Cornes loves dog racing, but more than that he loves playing the Crows. But is he fit? He averages a very healthy 118 and has some scores over the last 2 years Vs the Crows that consist of 152, 137, 126 and 115. HUGE. But he is obviously playing injured with scores of 95, 44, 104 and 50, shows Heath Shaw type symptoms. Thompson might get the Kane tag, as McLeod got it last time, but he’s most likely out one more week, maybe. Did you see Tyson Edwards on the list? Oh my, talk about under the radar. He averages 101 Vs Port and has scored 6×100’s in his last 7 games this year at an average of 113 in his last 5… and is also worth more coin than Thompson. Surprised me anyway! Shit… ‘Lochinvar Polo’ lost as well - Calvin is now $47 down!

LAST TIME THEY MET: Rd 3 - Crows won by 6. Chad had a huge 152 (34d, 13m), Pete Bur-gone had 142 with 41d. Bernie Vince racked up 134, Tys Edwards 119 (26d, 11m), Kane 105, Thompson 100 (27d) and Goodwin was solid for his 98. Big scores!!

Fremantle $1.55 Vs Melbourne $2.30

  • Pav - 126

  • Bruce - 105

No Brad Green this week, or taggers, so I thought we’d look at Cam Bruce! He is averaging a solid 105 Vs the Dockers, to go with the 117 he has averaged in his last 4 this year. But it’s Pavlich we all wanna look at. Firstly, why do Freo always play on Sunday arvo? Ummm. Anyway, the big fella averages a massive 126 Vs the Dees, with an average of 19d, 11m and a total of 14.11g in his last 3 Vs them. He averages 97 this year and averages 105 in his last 4 this year. Plus, his lowest score in his last 10 games was his 85 last week. He won’t let you down here!! Not at home!

LAST TIME THEY MET: Rd 7 - Melbourne won by 6. Bruce was great for his 113 (31d, 6t), Jeff “getting dropped” White also had 113 for his 21d. But it was Pav with 5.5g who had the game high 118!

CALVIN’S TOP PICKS FOR ROUND 16

  1. MATTHEW PAVLICH

  2. JIMMY BARTEL

  3. DEAN COX

  4. NICK REIVOLDT

Last week, Jonno Brown got me 100 - taking my personal average to a very average 102.3. Oh yeah, bout time!! ‘Bustling Something’ just got me $20 easing the damage… Vin $28 down and OUT. Hope there’s something there for you, and do yourself a favour… watch the DT Talk vid too - seriously! Dooo it!

NOTE: Vin and DT Talk do not endorse gambling, unless you win! Vin Out.

Four of the top four is nice for me. And then I also have Brown, Cross, Chad and Corey. Undecided. Worried that Bartel (or Corey) will get tagged seeing Ablett is probably out.

What about Matthew Boyd? He is ultra under the radar - Was considering him at the start of the year. I posted his stats randomly somewhere earlier this week along with Edwards and Kirk’s stats for the last 7/8 weeks-ish. They are quite amazing.

he’s a great DT-er. and he’s always welcome to stay on my team for ‘09

Big Cox the go for me!

I’m steering clear of all Geelong players for this match

Just on the off chance the Dogs do what they did to highly rated Hawthorn… in that match Buddy was the highest scorer with 100 even - scary

Also can’t bring myself to pick Pavlich when Freo’s midfield is (currently) so poor they are lucky to get the ball down to him

    Don’t have Bartel or Nick

the pav has been playing with basically the same midfield all year…only main difference is peter bell.
He has coped pretty well with the poor delivery and has scored good all year.

The dees midfield isnt full of stars either so i reckon pav still has to be a favourite for best captain choice.

  47. GravatarBy Khy on Jul 16, 2008 | Reply

the dee’s are without green and mclean. so its not like their midfield is much better.

    To roy,

I’m concerned with Calvin’s mental state. The champ has poor DT form, is depressed, drinking heavily and gambling whilst he has other responsibilities.

Rather than employing a bloke with personal issues I would like to suggest warehousing him in the Barry Hall Hall and suspend him indefinitely. It’s only a matter of time before has a brain freeze and punches someone.

    Yours in DT Coach welfare,
    Regards,

  55. GravatarBy Mossy on Jul 16, 2008 | Reply

Montagna? You gotta be kidding me! He may have a good history against Hawks - but he isn’t having a great year for stats. The 2008 Montagna is not the same man as he was last year. But who knows, maybe he can pull out a good score.

I’m going Coxy. I’ve neglected him for 2 weeks now and have regretted it.

Not sure if I trust you Calvin… last week you told me to pick Cross, so I did (instead of Cox). Luckily it didn’t cost me the game, but getting my captain’s choice wrong this week might.

Cox, Pavlich, Corey and Brown all look tempting… it’s a tough one, but I reckon Cox might be the best option (if for no other reason thah my opponent picks Cox every week).

An interesting tidbit is a mate of mine always picks Cox or Pav (whoever is playing at Subiaco) and he is doing VERY well with that strategy!

i have a theory. if pav played for either bulldogs, geelong or hawks he would be an 150 point per game player!!

i dont know how he does it with the shit delivery?

i watch freo play every week and the amount of times the ball goes over his head after he has beaton a player on the lead is amazing.

but anyway pav for me!! should kill the demons

    @ hibbo

Good point, though i still reckon the risk is too high

Pav is pretty consistent 80+ kinda guy but I’ve seen him get so many sub-100 scores this year I just don’t have the confidence to say “this is the one he’ll get a big 100+” (assuming here that we’re chasing big 120-140 range rather than 90-100 range)

He has only cracked 100 for 5 games this year with 2 of them being big (123 & 124). Cox has cracked 100 for 9 times and 5 big scores (120+).

I’m more than happy to be proven wrong though as he’s on my team :)

It’s all gambling though.. never know do you..
I’ll probably be eating my words come Monday! :)
Speaking of gambling I think Calvin has gone on tilt… :) (http://www.internet-poker.co.uk/Poker-Strategy/Going-On-Tilt/)

I’m stuck with who to make my captain this week. On the list above the people I have are Cox and Riewoldt but my opposition has them as well. But with Scott Thompson cracking the ton last week and getting back into form I am thinking of making him my captain because me opposition doesn’t have him either.

    What should I do?

So this week… you say COX, I say PAV ummm

I’m personally going Cox though, cause I dont have Pav, but Pav at home V Melb, must be tempting. Both should be fine
