Defenders
Carlton’s Jake Edwards has been great recently upping his price to 147k and now has a BE of -30. North Melbourne’s Lachlan Hansen will have his price rise from his initial 91,200 this week with a BE of -23 (if Dean Laidley doesn’t kill another DT Cash Cow). St Kilda’s Jarryd Allen has averaged 40 so far and has a BE of -16 to hold his $83,500 price. Price Checks own Nick Lower also has a BE of -14. Joel Bowden need -9 to rise in price after a couple of solid weeks.
Midfielders
Saint Kilda’s Robert Eddy (rookie listed player at $72,600) has averaged 59.5 in his first 2 game and has a BE of -62 this week. Everyone’s own Nick Stevens has put up a couple of 120’s in recent weeks, has a low BE of 45. Hawks star Sam Mitchell has been averaging 90 this year, and dropped to 345k in price also has a low BE this week of 31. At the other end of the table, after a 56 and 80 (greetings to Molly for his captain tip on Scott Thompson) has a BE of 200 this week.
Forwards
Shane Valenti had a nice 47k price rise last week, and will rise again with a BE of -37. Fremantle’s Christopher Mayne has been a great cow this year, up to 234k and still has a BE of 4 after solid scores in the past month. At the other end poor ole Vin’s captain Matthew Richardson needs 180 this week to maintain his $413k price, Johnathon Brown needs 151 and Lance Franklin needs 143 after a few poor scores.

alrgiht i guess there will be a few in this situation so ill put it out there. Now that palmer has obviously peaked, those of us with him as a 7th mid need to trade him. obviously it depends on your situation as to how far you can upgrade, but im looking at either hayes, mitchell, hodge or priddis. With an eye on finals who do you guys reckon will pull out a huge ton when required?
btw awesome work chad, so helpful
finally Valenti goes up but with only four picks left and with Valenti 74 and Rioli 75 scoring heavily on my forward line bench. It is almost irrelevant what he is worth now
As always Chad, much appreciated!
np, if i had a spare trade i would look at palmer to either Sam Mitchell or Lenny Hayes, if i had a little cash, Kane Cornes is pretty cheap at 375k, and a low BE this week means he should have bottomed out.
But i have no trades so i will keep palmer till the end of the year.
For the record, I find this column invaluable. I mean, the whole site is invaluable, but I’d wilt and die without the Price Checks. Thanks all.
Just saw on the news that Scott Thompson was just given a suspended jail sentence for reckless driving. Had no idea he was facing anything like that!
Has probably been on his mind the last couple of weeks, now he knows for sure he’s not going to be in the slammer he’ll probably have a huge one this week (not 200 though!).
is ther anyway of finding out SC breakevens?
again Raf? he had a driving incident last year.
ahh. cheers chadley.
damn buddy and johno. better start kicking ass soon!
im glad i picked up mitchell for cheap too
Any thoughts on Eddy from above i like him @ 72k. Is he still on rookie list? will he go back for Fraser? Any thoughts?
oh and to Blackdog.
in my opinion, priddis will pump out a bigger score out of those lads.
just my opinion (could be wrong)
can i ask you lads a question. i think i did somethign dumb last week.
i traded out Ablett when he was 502 grand, cuz i didn’t think anyone could maintain it, for Bartel (100 grand cheaper) and upgraded some shit rookie, i forget who, to Mitchell. i’ve got bartel and kornes, and a stacked forward line, so captain choices dont bother me.
but with he score last week, and a high break even this week, do you think i did the right or wrong thing?
oh. and it hurt to part with such a machine of a DT-er. ill miss you jesus
Raf - hehe, Thomo will be relishing his freedom and play like a man possessed.
Chad - for the news item, click my name.
you must have alot of trades up your sleeve SusCnt to trade out Ablett.
Anything on Eddy guys from above, love your work.
yeah i do. haha.
not aiming for the car.
just a league win.
Higgo, I haven’t seen the games, but he hasn’t been scoring too tell in SC (which is a better representation on how players are actually going). I’m not sure if he will keep getting games.
Should I pull the pin on chad and get Guerra now or just pray that chad plays out the year?
Fenno, depends how many trades you have left
should i do these trades
OUT:Butler and Palmer
IN:Eddy and Bartel
then hav $121 100 2 upgrade Rioli next week?
or should i just do 1 trade being
OUT:Palmer
IN:Goddwin
then only hav $15 000 in the bank
which option is betta???
4 trades left so not sure
I’m currently 236 overall and got a certain league win. I have 7 trades left with $21,000 in the bank. Thinking of cashing in C Morton for R Eddy. This will leave me with 6 trades and $172,000 in the bank. Should I then trade out Judd, Griffen or Palmer for Bartel or wait until Gablett or Swan go down in price and save the trade?
Need advice!!
i think most people are forgetting that theyre gonna need to keep a trade for cox at the end of the season. no way hell play out the whole year. ive got 5 trades and have reserved 2 for chad and cox. with any luck, chad will play out the year. doubt it though.
ill probably trade chad this week actually. is mackie definitely the best back at the moment *(i have bock, fisher and shaw)? money isnt really a concern.
If money isn’t a concern mackie is certainly a gun. I will have my eye on him for DT 09. Johncock doesn’t get mentioned much, but certainly a reliable backman (lots of cheap marks in backline).
i know hes a gun, but is he the biggest gun. with my last few trades i want to pick up the absolute best that my money can buy. so do you think mackie or guerra or even bowden will score more for the rest of the year?
Mackie, i rate him the best defender this year since the middle of the year.
Whoops i meant 6th mid on my first post and yep thanks chad i reckon hayes is the go
nah suscunt i like that idea if i had enough trades i may have done something like that too. but losing ablett as captain may hurt a little but i think it will pull off
hey luke hodge what about that melbourne player his got a average of like 90 for a backman i think its higher then mackie. he might be worth looking at but if i was u i would get a list then go for the 1 with the fewest selections so ur team should go better
any thoughts on my last post
luke hodge - if I may, here is my personal preference for the best backs going round, in order:
1. Mackie
2. Fisher
3. Shaw
4. Bock
5. Johncock
6. Guerra
7. Cornes
Bench:
8. Milburn (solid, plays in a good team)
9. Wheatley (plays in a weird team)
10. Newman (see: Wheatley)
daisy is a gun - get Bartel, not Goodwin.
depends how many trades u have left daisy. if u have 5+ then go option one. option two sounds pointless as palmer is averaging 85.8, 10 points less than goodwin so i would either go option one, just do the butler for eddy or not trade at all
midfield:
Abblett
Corey
Thompson
Palmer
Wellingham
Griffen
Bench - S.Selwood, Eddy
50K in bank.
Thinking of trading wellingham + 50K + someone else (either playfair or leunberger) for K. Kornes. Good move ? Or should I do a straight swap - Palmer + cash for Kornes.
I guess what im interested in knowing, is should I move palmer on, or keep him in the team ?!?!?
ooh, forgot to say - 5 trades left.
ta
Since you only got 5 trades depending on the rest of your team i doubt you’ll be upgrading palmer with a midfield like that. Youve gotta get rid of wellingham and griffen first.
although if you know you want to trade palmer, now is the time as his price is only gonna drop from here, so theres no point keepin him unless you want him in your final team
Im gonna trade myers this week. im trying to decide if i should get guerra or mackie. Any suggestions?
blackdog:
Griffen > Palmer now Bell is gone and it’s getting late in the year, Palmer may get tired/tagged. Griffen looks like he’s getting more TOG and wont get tagged ahead of Cooney and Cross.
I’d upgrade Palmer before Griff.
i’ve got the decision of upgrading either palmer or griffen.
i’m thinking palmer due to a higher BE and hes gonna get the tag now due to Bell out
do u guys agree?
Chad is going to play on. He was just on Channel 9 news here in SA and said he will not pull the pin until the end of the season. You a true DT legend Chad.
yeah get rid of palmer christo.
chad is a beast. could be a secret weapon of mine come finals. everyone who still has him, sit on him!!!
arggghhh.. two extra trades is all i need.. some ripe blokes here… geee.. got any to give me chad??
Chad, I can see that Tomas thinks to hang on to Chad but im not sure if this is a good idea. His be is 100 this week and im trying to figure out if i should trade him now before his price drops or hang on to him for good. What are your thoughts? If I were to trade him I was thinking for either Jordan McMahon or Brent Guerra, what do u think???
I got off chad at 360k because i was afraid of the same thing you are, losing too much cash. Guerra for 320k is not a bad choice, Bichall at 284k is pretty cheap depends what you want and if you want to invest the cash in the backline or not.
Hey, I have $240K and 5 trades. In the next few weeks, I want to upgrade J Morton and Palmer (or Dal Santo). I am considering:
1. Upgrade Morton to Robert Murphy in about 2 weeks. By then, I may only need to spend $100-110K to get the deal done (Morton still has a low BE and Murphy has a high BE).
2. Upgrade Dal Santo or Palmer to Ablett in about 2 weeks. The problem with this is that, while Ablett’s price will fall (with a BE of 150 against Crowley), so will Dal Santo and Palmer’s.
I’m not sure if $240K will be enough to get these done. As an alternative to 2, I could upgrade Palmer or Dal Santo to Bartel this week, and save a bit of cash.
Should I be hellbent on getting Ablett, or should I settle with Bartel?
What do people think about the overall strategy?
the morton issue is an interesting one.
a rookie, but getting good scores. we know what rookies do though… up one week, down the next. In the short term, why not let him continue to rise in value. he has a low BE this week, so he could go up another 20 - 30K quite easily. whereas murphy would be more likely to go up by less than the above figure, due to his higher BE. So… consider hanging onto morton for another week or two… you can still do the trades before finals, but enjoy the extra money in the bank !!
what you REALLY need to do is whats called a sensitivity analysis, determining what players are most sensitive to large price changes (up and down) based on average performances, and the associated probability of them reaching those scores ….hahaha im a nerd !
