Chook’s Rooks - split round 14

Files under 2008 | 41 Comments

rooks-logo4.JPGSo, a couple of rookie rucks have reared their ugly, under-developed heads since the last installment of Chook’s Rooks. I’m making a point of this because rookie rucks getting a gig are as rare as DT hundreds against Sydney, and some coaches could be looking to downgrade the likes of North’s Hamish Mack-And-Toss, St Kilda’s Justin Cause-I’m-Shit-Ski, Sydney’s Peter Over-It or Adelaide’s Jonathan Gruff-Chin. And everyone would love a back-up for when Dean Cox decides to give his broken foot a break.

Read on to see whether it’s worth taking a punt on Hawthorn tall Brent Renouf or St Kilda youngster Ben McEvoy, plus a plethora of rookie-related info that’s really pretty useless.

Calvin’s Captains - Split Round 14

Calvin’s Captains

ARGG!! Bloody hell, what a dud round that was for captain selection and Kane Cornes let me down for the second week running! Now - if you have Ablett, stop reading - serious stop and piss off!! Hope everyone else did ok, sorry if you took my hot advice and it failed you, but ARGGG! This weeks looks a little tough again, especially with the split round and all. Try to pick a captain this week that is playing in the 1st lot of games. That way you can be ‘more’ certain of them playing. Either that… or this week actually make sure you have your vice captain well positioned! Looks like this… Cox - 106 (average Vs his opponent in the last 3 played) Enjoy and fingers crossed! (more…)

Wednesday’s DT News

Files under 2008 | 42 Comments

Here are some of the issues you should know about… because it might effect your Dream Team!

  • There is doubt that Chris Judd will pull on the boots this weekend after his bump from the Velvet Sledgehammer, Matthew Lloyd last week. Although, real coach (not just DT), Brett Ratten is confident that he will play.
  • If you missed the tribunal news, Adam Goodes will definately miss, however, Nathan Bassett is free to play.
  • Word is that Nick Dal Santo will return to the St Kilda lineup this week, while Stephen Milne is unlikely to get a recall.
  • The Western Bulldogs will be playing up in the heat in Darwin this weekend. They have been training in a heat chamber thing to get ready for it. Not sure how the Darwin humidity really effects DT performances, you can check our last years game scores over here.
  • If you’re planning for Dream Team in 2009, Ben Cousins looks like he’ll be playing somewhere in Victoria, but not at the Blues or at the Kangaroos. Hope it’s a midfield that he can tear it up in… I’m looking forward to a 140 point return like last year!
  • Brisbane’s Daniel Bradshaw and Travis Johnstone look likely to return this week.
  • Apparently Chad Cornes will miss this week and try to return the week after the split round… this is according to Channel 9 News in Adelaide.

DT TALK 2008: Round 14 Episode

Files under VidCasts | 35 Comments

In this week’s installment of DT Talk, Kane Cornes - who was Calvin’s shocking Captain choice - opens the show with his DT is Alright With Me. We discuss the awful backline issues and Calvin calls for a Backline Reconstruction. We discuss our average round and all wish we could have Gary Ablett Jnr as our captains each week as he is the first ever player to crack $500K in AFL Dream Team. The split round sucks and we offer some advice leading into it. We join Roy on his quest for the Big Red Car - the Wiggles haven’t ever sounded this good! We see some highlights from our Party at the Precinct Hotel in Richmond from last week. Chopper, after his lowest score in Dream Team EVER, is ruthless… chopping half his side! Finally, Vin-Twin makes an appearance as he takes on Warnie in their league game this week! He has gone Paul Medhurst as Captain! An action packed and must see episode - even if it’s just for the Big Red Car song!

Official AFL Injury List ahead of Round 14

Files under 2008 | 33 Comments

The all important (yet sometimes very inacurate) Official AFL Injury List is now in. Keep in mindDream Team Talk Hospital that this is what is supplied by clubs, and we’re playing over a split round this week. Sucky for Dream Team! A few obvious things is that Andrew McLeod isn’t listed, yet he has had knee surgery and will miss a couple of week, Trent Hentschel is listed as test but news today said he is at least another 3 weeks away, Scott West’s 2 weeks is now apparently 5 weeks now, Carlton’s Dennis Armfield - who a lot of people jumped on a couple of weeks ago as a mid or back - had an operation on his finger today and will miss a couple of weeks.

Roy and I have just been watching TEN News and they just mentioned about 28 players possibly coming back for the Tigers and Jake King wasn’t even mentioned even though he is listed as a test! Dammit! Some good news for coaches waiting on Daniel Bradshaw, he is listed as a test and looks likely to resume this week. Our old mate Chad Cornes isn’t even on the injury list… what a tough cookie! If you play Chad, don’t give us any more sub 50 performances big gun! (more…)

Backline at Brea”KING” Point

Files under 2008 | 20 Comments

There are alot of coaches with fingers firmly crossed that the likes of Jake King come back from injury this week to fill some dirty backline 0’s. This news is giving me a reason to live as im hanging out for any good backline news. Captain Kane Johnson (who cares), Daniel Jackson (does he play football?), Will Thursfield (what tha?) and JAKE KING (yay) could all be available for selection as they recover from their injuries.

McLeod out for 3-4 weeks

Files under 2008 | 9 Comments

Previous suggestions had Andrew McLeod out for 2 weeks, but it has been revealed that it could be 3-4 weeks. The split round will help reduce it to 2 or 3 games.

Crows head doctor Andrew Potter said: “At this stage we expect Andrew to be ready to play in about a month. He will certainly miss the Geelong game (Friday week) and probably also the Collingwood match (round 15) but that will depend on when he can get back to full training.”

Price Check: Round 14

Files under 2008 | 26 Comments

Price Check with Chad

Defenders

Seems alot of people are asking about who can replace Chad Cornes or Peter Burgoyne this week and with trades becoming low and getting close to the August here are a few gun options. After a massive 136 last week, Heath Shaw is now only 10 points off the leading back position. His price is a bargin at 303k and a BE of 71 for anyone who doesn’t have him. Leading backman Bock Dog is 351k and a BE of 39. Even after a DT ton on the weekend, Brent Guerra still need 110 to maintain his 325k price tag (due to his 30 when he was injured in round 8). Other guns Andrew Mackie (356k) has a BE of 76 and Sam Fisher (355k) needs 100 to maintain his price. After a massive 180 Joel Bowden is back to his cheap-touches self at 344k and needs 37 to break even.

At the other end of the pineapple, if you are looking for a cheaper option, Matthew Spanger from West Coast has a BE of -29 at still at rookie price of $83,500 if he gets selected. Gavin Urquhart still has a -ve BE (-5) as does Callan Ward (-3). Nick Lower could also be considered ($83,500), whilst only averaging 30 so far this year in his 2 games, should get games now that Port have “shut up shop”.

Midfielders

Ben Davis (131k) from the Kangaroos has a BE of -35 after a 43 and then a 92 last week. DT Talks own Josh P Kennedy has a BE of -29 if he can get into the 22, similarly with Jamie McNamara from West Coast.

At the premium end, Jimmy Bartel is down to 387k (BE of 112) and Joel Corey is at 380k (BE of 106). Last years highest scoring player Kane Cornes has put up 2 low scores (by his standards) and is priced at 385k but a BE of 153 (could be down to 360k in a couple of weeks).

Forwards

Shane Valenti has a BE of -60 after averaging 58 in his first 2 games, but will he get a game? Jarryd Morton has continued his sensational scores for his owners putting up 98 after 82 from last week, he still has a BE of -33. A bad couple of games for Lance Franklin who needs 175 to hold his 384k price and Alan Didak who needs 157 to hold his 372k price.
