Calvin’s Captains - Split Round 14

Calvin’s Captains

ARGG!! Bloody hell, what a dud round that was for captain selection and Kane Cornes let me down for the second week running! Now - if you have Ablett, stop reading - serious stop and piss off!! Hope everyone else did ok, sorry if you took my hot advice and it failed you, but ARGGG! This weeks looks a little tough again, especially with the split round and all. Try to pick a captain this week that is playing in the 1st lot of games. That way you can be ‘more’ certain of them playing. Either that… or this week actually make sure you have your vice captain well positioned! Looks like this… Cox - 106 (average Vs his opponent in the last 3 played) Enjoy and fingers crossed!

Hawthorn Vs West Coast

  • Cox - 106

  • Embley - 98

  • Priddis - 115

  • Mitchell - 91

  • Hodge - 91

  • Buddwood - 38

Umm interesting start to the split round and Buddwood fans won’t be over the moon here. In his last 2 games this year he has averaged 58 with with scores of 27, 28, 59 and 38 Vs the Eagles it might be safer picking someone else this week. Mitchell returned to some great form last week with a whopping 141 (38d), but last time be played the Eagles he sucked too having only 8 kicks and 8 handballs. The one legged limping Cox looks the one here. He averages 106 Vs the Hawks and is coming off a great 115 (25d and 19 taps) last week. He’s obviously playing injured, but doing the job. Priddis has only played the Hawks once for his 115 and Embley continues to run hot as he averages 112 in his last 4 games this year!

Richo Vs Carlton

  • Richo - 105

  • Judd - 89

  • Stevo - 94

  • Marc - 85

  • Fev - 67

I am very proud to say that I am now an owner of my very own Riiiccchhooo! Ha ha, but last week he had his lowest score in his last 11 games this year, 93…. woo not bad champ! In Stevens‘ last 2 games Vs the Eagles he has averaged 94 and is coming off 122 last week Vs Essendon. Judd averages a solid 89, but has only averging 78 in his last 4 games this year. Lift Judda! Stop getting contested possies and start scabbing a few.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Rd 1 - Richmond won by 30pts. Only 3 guys scored above 100. Thorton 124, Richo 104 and Simpson 102. Marc had 98 and Judd 82. Stevens (75) was tagged by Tuck and might happen again. Fev only scratched up 51 (2 goals) and Foley (65) was tagged by Gibbs.

Kangaroos Vs St Kilda

  • Reivodtd - 84

  • Brent Harvey - 77

  • Hayes - 70

Lenny Hayes is in doubt this week but tore up the first quarter last week when he had 75 (16d, 5t … on track for 300 WOO!!). He had 108 last time he played the Roos. Brent Harvey, probably wont get your main job as the C this week but he has averaged 103 in his last 3 games this year, maybe a PDT captain! Nick Reivoldt is all the talk right now. Coming off a huge game last week, and creeping down the back for cheap kicks, he’s averaged 120 in his last 2 games this year. Look out!

Western Bulldawgs Vs Port Adelaide

  • Cross - 99

  • Kane - 98

  • B.J - 99

  • Cooney - 87

  • Chad - 94

Right, lets get this clear! Chad Cornes will play, but… with his previous scores of 44, 104 and 50 he’s clearly playing below his best and his injuries are certainly hampering him. Kane has been poor lately, I’d know! He’s averaged 69 in his last 2 games this year, but does average 24d a game Vs the Dogs here. Not this week for me Kane, you’re not burning me again! Cooney might cop the Kane tag though so look for that, but it’s Cross who has the numbers. He averages 28d a game Vs Port and should go nicely again! Brad Johnson has kicked a total of 13 goals in his last 3 Vs Port and could be an option here, maybe.

Melbourne Vs Brisbane

  • Brownie - 97

  • White - 100

  • Black - 98

  • Bruce - 99

These team met earier in the year (Rd 6) when Brownie sucked. He had 59 in that game but before that he had 128 and a 97 on the Dees. He’s been in hot hot form before Adelaide held him (like I said) to a small 71. Rutten and Bock and killing big forwards and claimed J.B like they did Buddwood last week. Before that game he had scores of 120, 132 and 133.  Bruce had 133 last time these teams met (33d, 5t, 11m). He’s worth a small thought and has been in great form as well.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Rd 6 - Brisbane won by 52. Bribane kicked 19.23 goals and Brownie only managed 2.2g of that huge tally. He was held by Rivers of all people. Surely not again! Bruce had 133, Nath Jones had a lucky day (118), Black had 36d (109), White 97 (23d, 20 h/o) and Brad Green knocked up a great 104.

Fremantle Vs Essendon

  • Pavlich - 132

  • Lucas - 103

  • Stanton - 88

Oh yeah, here we go - found one!!! Pavlich averages 22d, 13m to go with a total of 14 goals in his last 3 Vs Essendon (132pts). He had 168pts (30d, 16m, 6.3g) the very last time he played them! His form has been great and there is no excuses here - GET ON IT. Stanton might attract Crowley and screw his night. Lucas averages great numbers here, but he has only averaged 67pts in his last 2 games this year. Surely I’m gunna see Pav locked in everywhere this week!!!

Calvin’s Captains

Righteo, this is where the split round occurs. The rest of the games below are a week and a half away so make sure you know what you’re doing!

Adelaide Vs Geelong

  • Ablett - 77

  • Corey - 110

  • Bartell - 117

  • Thompson - 97

  • Chapman - 102

  • Goodwin - 100

Ablett’s not a bad player. He goes alright. HALF A MILLION - ohhh yeah. How good is he! Ignore his average of 77, cause he’s had 147, 127 and 148 in his last 3 games this year and as Tit-ed says, “shouldn’t be called Calvin’s Captains, should be called… just pick Ablett ya morons.” Ahh yep, he’s right! Scott Thompson captained destROY last week and had his worst score of 2008 (59) when he was well tagged by Sellwood - he might get the Pink Pig, maybe… but his last 3 Vs Geelong looks great, 98, 143 and then a yucky 51. Worth a thought! Bartel had 160pts last time these teams met, that day he had 35d, 5t and 3m. Joel Corey finds a lot of the rock here too. He had 35d and 10t last time to go with his 145pts. Simon Goodwin averages a neat 100 here (if you ignore his injured 10). Paul Chapman is averaging 112 in his last 2 this year to go with the 102 he averages against them. This will be a high scoring DT game, take ya pick!!!

Sydney Vs Collingwood

  • Kirk - 96

  • Hall - 66

  • Swan - 80

  • H. Shaw - 77

  • Didak - 63

Heath Shaw is Heath Shaw. A bumpy unpredictable DT bipolar roller coaster! But watch this up and down ride. In his last 7 games he’s gone… 150 (up), 40 (down) 116 (up) 21 (down) 94 (up) 22 (down) 136 (up)… yep there is a pattern - DOWN this week! Be careful coaches. Bazza Hall has averaged 101 int he two games since he returned. Captain Kirk has doen better than taht averaging 112 in his last 2 games this year, he might tag Swan! Swan Vs the Swans ha ha  - he averages 18d in the 3 games he played Vs the Swans in ‘07, well below what he can do. Didak has gone cold in his last 2 games this year (62) and will struggle again here Vs the great DT restrciting Swans. Remember… never pick a captain Vs the best in DT defence - the Swans!

CALVIN’S TOP PICKS FOR ROUND 14

  1. GARY ABLETT

  2. MATTHEW PAVLICH

  3. JOEL COREY

  4. MATTHEW RICHARDSON

  5. DEAN COX

  6. SCOTTIE THOMPSON

Tough order this week with so many players that could go either way. I only have Cox and Richo in that line up (yeah I know, shit team me) so Richo looks the go for me at this stage. Anyway, after being screwed by Kane again - my personal team captain average is sliding down to - 105.7 pts. Arg! Good luck guys!!

Pav and his giant nose get the C from me this week.

Though I have this scary suspicion the big Brown Dog might take 15 marks to kick 10 goals from a lazy 20 possessions and lay a few tackles for good measure at the G this weekend. You heard it here first.

Out of those six ive only got Pav. which is sad.

should i choose him for the captaincy calvin?

hey V8 - what do you think about Mark Harvey coming out saying that he will try something different on lucas and lloyd… like a shock mve… they better not go pav… if so… DT scores goodbye….

  8. GravatarBy fryzie on Jun 25, 2008 | Reply

I wouldn’t worry Warnie, I heard he’s planning on playing Sandilands down back with a big wooden club and a purple loin cloth.

  9. GravatarBy SusCnt on Jun 25, 2008 | Reply

fuck me. pavlich is very tempting. will fletcher play on him? pavalenko will be way too tough and fit for him won’t he?
i mean, gablett is bound to slip up sooner or later isn’t he?
i won’t pick him Vs. freo or sydney tho.

i am gonna keep Gablett as my full time captain for the rest of this year. the man is a DT freak!!!!

  11. GravatarBy SusCnt on Jun 25, 2008 | Reply

can someone explain to me the way the split round affects DT.
do the first few games play and we only score around 1000.
and then the next games are played and we get a seperate score round that?
or do we just wait longer for a combined score?
    im so confused. haha

  12. GravatarBy fryzie on Jun 25, 2008 | Reply

lol, SusCnt, it just plays out over 2 weeks so all 8 games make up your normal score. Just takes 2 weeks and we can’t change teams in the middle if say Gablett gets injured at training.

Which incidently I’ve been praying for. Stupid Bald Freak.

I rekon VS will keep live scores open all next week so you can see how your team is going compared to your opponent.

Hey fellas, got a bit of a dilemma here.

I have Salopek, Peter Burgoyne and Cornes. Definitely trading out Peter for Drummond but not sure whether to trade Chad for Guerra or Sal for Bartel. I’ll play Cotchin if I trade Chad or Taylor if I trade Sal. What would be a better trade?

    Cheers

Hi there my beloved fans. Yes little typo with Stevens (my bad, he plays the Tigs.)

Pav is a great choice this week, ignore Warnie, Pav can play anywhere and kill the Bombers! Warnie is a bombers fans and can’t face what Pav will to do them.

Ha ha - Ablett fans can still read this but keep in mind we hate you all.

I have Ablett, but Pav vs Essendon is VERY tempting even compared to Ablett given that Ablett is vs the Crows. Tough call.

  36. GravatarBy CJ on Jun 26, 2008 | Reply

how bout the opinion that a week off means you’re better off picking a player from the 2nd week of the split round? bartel had 80 in the 2nd half last week, plus many suspect he has a niggle. what better then a week off to get rid of that niggle, and come out and dominate the crows.
    i’m on jimmy.

na na! na na na na! hey hey hey! Mathman!

This week i want to tell you all about my favourite number!

It’s 5,318,008! I like it because it has a wonderful symmetry to it! And because because thats how many metres of strapping tape nick reiwoldt will use during his career! But mostly i like it because if you type it into your calculator and turn it upside down it spells boobies!

    Hooray for boobies!

Pick for el capitano (excluding gabblett because that is too obvious) is Marc Murphy!

    Mathman away!

Think Ill go Ablett again, and just to add to the best midfield EVER (mine), I can get Bartell in, yyyeeeewwwwwww!

Hey Calvin, any talk on Soggy Captains this week? Just looked at the long range forecast and rain is predicted all next week in Adelaide. I dont think it will stob Gablet, but it makes me feel better as I dont have him! Very sad, I know. A big slice of Pavalova for me this week.

  42. GravatarBy ... on Jun 26, 2008 | Reply

Mitchell, Black or Pav. Which 1 should i choose, mitchell and black might be a bit risky. Any Advice?

should i trade out thomas 4 reiwoldt? but then i only have 5 trades left. Should i do it?

  48. GravatarBy spuzzlord on Jun 26, 2008 | Reply

reiwoldt for thomas is a good trade, but whether or not to make it is up to you. It really depends whether you have playing subs, any injury concerns and that sort of thing.

but it is definitely a good upgrade

  49. GravatarBy Tit-ed on Jun 26, 2008 | Reply

Hmmm, not bad Andrew…..Ablett, Bartel, Marc Murphy, Stevens, Mitchell and Kornes.

Soggy Captain?? - right, well… I have been reseaching this over the course of the year. I have been collecting info from wet and dry games, but have not yet collect enough to come to a definate anwser. Not much difference I don’t think… tough call though, but for me, I personally stay clear of a ‘captain’ renound for ‘marking’ in the wet. Slippery ball I guess but probably not a big deal, just me I think. Where is it going to be raining??

  53. GravatarBy Pom on Jun 26, 2008 | Reply

    what about Richo???

He got 100 in the rain vs Geelong a few rounds back

inclusive theory - which just makes everything harder to choose!!!

  54. GravatarBy Chook on Jun 26, 2008 | Reply

Was wondering whether to bring in Bartel this week, or hold off for one more (be of 121). The chance of rain might decide it… Jimmy loves that shit. He goes tackle-crazy in the mud.

    Gablett?
    Pavlich?
    Brown?
    Fevola?
    Cross?
    or The Nugget AKA Chapman?

Picking the wrong one could really cost in excess of 100pts
