Round 11 Trades… doing any?

There has been plenty of advice floating around this week in who to dump and who to pick up - and a few blokes who are “on the Bubble” (thanks FanFooty). So this is where we want to hear what you are thinking… and who you are trading (or being disciplined and not trading). To help you, read Chook’s Rooks for this week, Chad’s fantastic Price Check and also the AFL Teams! Don’t get burnt by 2007’s Ricky Petterd rule… or 2008’s Paul Chapman rule - that burnt up so bad a couple of weeks ago!

Cryil Rioli to Paul Chapman - Great Trade!!

Remember: Try not to trade until the last possible moment! And in Geelong’s and Kangaroo’s case tonight, wait until you hear the final teams!

Out Vince, in Chappy. 9 trades left.

Vince has peaked and has a high BE, Chappy should have bottomed out.

(Also have Rioli and L Harding, but they should have another week or two before falling in price, and I’m hoping to pick up Lucas VERY cheap in a fortnight)

traded michael johnson (freo) for McPhee.
McPhee is averaging 3ppg more, and i made 12k on the deal.
McPhee is also at a $104k discount currently.

Might seem like its a little sideways (the trade,) but I’m hoping with lucas back, mcphee can start to find some form.

Steven’s to Bartel??!? *sigh* Now Houli to Bartel that’s the move.

    My trades:
Taylor cashed in to Wilkes (hope he plays a few games but not critical if he doesn’t)

    N. Thompson to Giasiracasrreacsueracusa.

Both trades leave me with 22 on the field, touch wood.

Stevens to Bartel? Interesting trade. I have a man crush on Stevens. Never gets tagged because he is so much less effective than a Judd or Murphy and racks up big figures. Got him for cheap as chips too, he’s a stayer.

Trading out Gamble to J Morton and upgrading Wood to Hille this week.

Manboobies - are Osborne and Palmer really the weakest links in your team? If so you must be top 100. I think they are wasted trades at the moment.

Cyril on the other hand, while he may be a bit of a sentimental favourite with DT coaches because of his consistent performances this year, may have reached the end of his usefulness. Will be a tough decision to make though.

ok so tippet has peaked, and even though he is somewhat average, he is a regular. Do i take the cash and dump him - for morton most likely - and then run the risk of having morton and valenti on the bench, or do i just hold on and watch my money disappear.

  30. Gravatarwallcob | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

Manboobies - Rioli for Buddy - Consistent Gun.
Don’t think should palmer. Osbourne is a tough decision, dependent on number of trades u have left. All three of the choices are good though. I have bock and bradshaw in the backline already and have not really let me down.

Killer - Either Buddy or Didak. How long can Richo keep going at this pace?
If two expensive, i would rate Riewoldt the best less expensive option even though u might already have him. If u do, i would think it would be worth spending more money as o’keefe scoring might go down a bit when hall comes back. Burton and Bock too unpredictable
Gia is not a bad pick though.

Noob: Pav out of that list, no brainer.

Hopefully with Griffo out Tippett will get a bit of time in the ruck to beef up his DT points with some Hit Outs and cheap marks and kicks around the ground, cos he sure aint doing it playing in the forward line!!!!

He is still not going to make his BE of 90 odd but only 7 trades left so I think I will just put up with him for the moment as long as the rest of my forward line is playing.

  40. Gravatardibby | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

  41. GravatarRaf | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

Realised I had 200k spare (!) rather than 100k like I thought, so I didn’t need to extract every ounce out of downgrading Tippett like I’d thought I did… did Tippett to Morton, since Morton held his spot with Hodge back, and Gardiner to Cox.

Still have about 70k in the kitty and some good cash cows (particularly Masten and Browne, although I’ll keep one as a backup to the end of the season) and Symes on the bench. My forward line, barring injury is set. My rucks are set. My mids are set unless I want to use that 70k in a couple of weeks to do something like Palmer to Bartel (tempting…). My backs are inconsistent… but so are all the backs I could “upgrade” too, which is why it’s tempting to just pray my backs improve and spend the cash and trades perfecting the more reliable positions!

You crack me up Raf. I’m guessing you love a good chat. Never short of a line or 20!! All shit aside, you’ve got the right idea with trading up forwards/centres and letting defenders do their thing. Not much to be gained in defence.

I’ve traded Gamble for Morton and upgraded Rioli to Franklin. Morton stood up last week when a lot of Hawks were poo, so I think he could be around a little longer than people think. He’s definitely put himself above Young.

    Unknown / Wallcob,

I traded Vince rather than Rioli. The reasons: Rioli’s BE this week is about the same as his average, whereas Vince’s BE is 30-40 above his average. Also, while Vince can score 100+, if he doesn’t he tends to score ~60 - his average is a touch misleading. Just thought there was more $ downside in Vince than Rioli from here.

Stuck with a tricky situation boys.

One short in the forward line due to Dew being unreliably injured again! Have been trusting my emergencies in McKinley and Valenti however neither have been selected.

Option 1: Trade McKinley for J.Morton, Trade Dew for Riewoldt (or a 340k-300k player)

Option 2: Trade McKinley for J.Morton, Rely on Morton for this week and play Dew when he returns

Option 3: No trades. McKinley could be a late change with Hunter named when he wasn’t due for another 4 weeks.

I have 8 trades currently so it’s a big decision.

Mark - I just think that at round 11, there must be bigger holes in your side than T Johnstone.

There will always be opportunities to get guns at fair prices…after a couple of weeks of being tagged etc. Seems like a waste of a valuable trade to me.

  83. Gravatarmark | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

in response to you cant make it- i would go option 1 because u do not want dew anywhere near ur team. Reiwoldt is back and is cheap and u need your team at its best for the 2nd half of the season instead of relying on injured overweight players that will struggle and bring down ur average. Since i have responded to ur question i would appreciate u to answered mine:)

    Out Palmer and In Bartel

Only 5 trades left but shouldn’t have to trade anymore barring injuries.
29 of 30 players play regular footy with Gamble and Hansen not playing this weekend.

Looks like Bartel is a popular IN this week.

  85. GravatarYou Can't Make It | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

    Mark thanks for your response.

I’d have to agree with Jim for your question though, Johnston for Bartel is a bit of a luxury trade which you want to avoid if you have limited trades left. You want to improve the lesser players on your list (in my case Dew) before trading out A grade scorers for A+.

Other opinions on my question also appreciated.

  87. Gravatarsimon | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

Why does everyone think Riewoldt is back? He played Melbourne last week and scored 100 - so what!!!? He had an interrupted pre-season and has not shown anywhere near the form he has the last few years with the Saints playing shitty backwards/sideways footy. I don’t think there’s any value in getting someone who has had an injury interrupted year. There are many more safer bets, you might just have to spent a little bit more coin.

  88. Gravatarluke | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

WILL, ive got 6 trades left and im 14th but my team is now complete, like all the players in my starting team are good… so im hoping those 6 trades get me through with injuries, but ive got rhys palmer as my emergency so i wont need to make a trade if one of midfielders is out for a few weeks.

  89. Gravatarsimon | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

Morro - If you’ve got 4 trades left, i would suck it up for a while and even play with a zero. There will be more Morton’s at some stage - who knows, Jetta may even string a couple of reasonable games together and you might make more than 70k. Jetta doesn’t look like getting dropped from the Bombers and couldn’t possibly play any worse than right now.

There’s not much fun in dream team when all your trades are gone with several rounds still to go. Trust me, been there done that.

  90. Gravatarmark | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

kind of agree with that simon apart from the backwards sideways footy. Isnt that how u score well in dt? i think an absolute bargain option for a forward would be matthew stokes. at 317 k he is a steal. Scored 111 last week. Scored 142 in round 2. He knows how to get the dt points up. I would say its between him and reiwoldt for the (you cant make it guy)…….. wouldnt mind knowing ur actual name btw! :)

  91. GravatarChunky | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

I agree with Simon. I think the jury is still out on Reiwoldt. I’m not convinced he is fully fit and I would prefer to wait and see if he can string together a good month of footy before buying him……even if that means having to pay an extra 50k (give or take) more for him. 100+ against Melbourne is not convincing enough for me.

  92. GravatarJim | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

Morro, given you have 4 trades left, I’d let it ride. There’ll be other forward rooks down the track. The trade is far more valuable than the slight advantage of Morton over Jetta.

a 0 is not the end of the world. Running out of trades by round 14 is.

  93. Gravatarmark | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

guys thats cause u dont have reiwoldt on ya team……..im trying to be optomistic here fellas…….

  94. GravatarChunky | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

If you can afford it, I think that Steve Johnsen is a better option at the moment compared to Reiwoldt and Stokes. His BE is in the 30’s from memory and with another solid effort tonight his price will be heading over the 400k mark.

  95. GravatarChunky | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

Mark. I agree that if you already have Reiwoldt in your team then it is probably worth holding him to see if he comes good. But taking a risk to buy him now is another matter.

  96. Gravatarsimon | Jun 6, 2008 | Reply

Backwards/sideways footy is good for the backs but not so great for the big forwards. I think you could definitely sit on the Riewoldt trade for a few weeks. He surprisingly hasn’t got a good record against the Dogs and plays Sydney the week after. If he shows a few good signs in those two matches (I mean by leading up the wings for link up work and several marks and kicks), then he is a definite prospect. I think he is just a bit too risky at the moment.

You may have a different opinion, and you might also be right on the money. That is what makes DT great!!

well my forward line is one of the best in the competition so if reiwoldt doesnt score to his best an averages 85, then i wil b a bit dissapointed but it wont b the end of the world…….MY Forward line is: Pavalich, Reiwoldt, R.Murphy, Delideo, S.Johnson, Franklin, Jonno brown………… U RATE THAT?!!!!

riewoldt did look pretty good n he played without stupid strapping on his shoulders and knees n looked like he could move around alot betta…also he normally has a pretty good 2nd half 2 the yr

If your team is complete with 6 trades left for injuries and can afford to have Rhys Palmer as an emergency to boot, you are awesome (I assume that 14th is 14th overall, not 14th in the league) and you don’t need advice from us. We need advice from you!

For most of the rest of us Ibbotson for Chad isn’t smart because Ibbotson wouldn’t be our worst back :)

    I had to go:

    Out= J Hill
    In= J Morton
    &
    Out= Gamble
    In= N Reiwoldt :)

This had to be done so I could hang onto Burton and still have Tippett on the bench if required(dont trust J.Brown being a late w/drawl).
Of course I would have rathered offload Tippett before the other 2, but he didn’t leave me with enough $$$$$$ for someone i felt worthy of a spot in Team DAZZLER !!!

    What do ya reckon ???
    9 trades left..

Expect to see a bit more of the Riewoldt we used to know in the next few weeks. Yes last week St Kilda may have been playing Melbourne and admittably Riewoldt looked to be lacking in confidence when going for goal however his running looked better and for the first time in years his shoulder were tape free (anyone who has to wear tape on their shoulders would know that it does restrict your arm movement) so it’s a good sign.
He seems to have recovered well from his knee injury and is due for some big games with 100+ points. At less than $320k I would consider him at bargain value especially with his BE being about 65 as well.

I’m one of the ’suckers’ who is very interested in trading him in, whether it’s worth two trades - I need your help to decide.

Oh and by the way, i have excepted a DONUT if THE KREUZ doesnt play..
I rathered get the forwards right, as last week, i got STUFFALL from Matty anyway, so it will not be a HUGE loss, a risk i am willing to take….

Thanks simon and jim for your opinions on the jetta - morton swap. Only other thing that came to my mind. I’ll make 50,000 profit doing the trade itself.. not including the money morton is gonna jump this week with a be of -69. I’ll have valenti and morton rotating for whoever isnt playing. If worst comes to worst i’ll be able to trade morton to a 300,000 player! With the money i’ll make. Like i said jetta is the only bad player on my team now.. looking to get easily over 2000 mark this week now that chappys back in!

Collingwood i’d go for buddy as they are playing my team essendon :P Our back has let through the most points this year so i reckon hes up for a big one.. corey is playing a decent team tonight kangas so he may not get as much as normal average but thats just my 2 cents!

Morro - I promise you two things:

that Jetta can’t fall by much more (he’ll be dropped if he plays worse),

AND there’ll be other rooks come along to trade down into. The $ shouldn’t influence your decision.
