Operation Tackle?! Lots of 4 points!!

Files under 2008 | Posted by Warnie

Tackles - 4 Dream Team PointsPretty much the best thing to do in an AFL game, apart from slotting a goal, is to tackle. This will get you four points… and if you do it well, you might get a free kick for (+1) and then get to take a kick (+3), that’s 8 Dream Team points!

This has come to my mind after reading this article on the Herald Sun Superfooty website. Collingwood racked up 55 tackles in the first half last week against Geelong and finished with 85 for the game. Pretty awesome stuff! The Blues are looking to do the same against the Cats this week… which is fantastic news for Carlton players in our Dream Team!

Bring it on!!

Assuming Carlton aren’t soft and they lay that many tackles. Of course if the tackle goes in the back or over the shoulder a +4 turns into a -3 with just a blow from an umpire (whether they get the free correct or not is a ryan gamble).

Ronnie Burns would have broke that piss weak tackle and snapped a sausage roll for an easy 9 DTs

  5. GravatarBy Fenno on May 29, 2008 | Reply

Ronnie Burns wouldn’t have scored the 9DTs instead by the looks of that we would have given away a free for a high fend off -3DTs for him

Hope your not counting on Nick Stevens to bring you in a lot of tackle points, Luke Hodge….

haha i love how we no longer talk in tackles, goals, kicks but 4 pointers, 9 pointers and 3 pointers. funny shit, especially when there are a group of rival dters watching a game 2gether!! ronnie burns, haha retro throwback! do u rekon he ever snared a ton?? oh and by the way, i want players to start raising the ball to the crowd when they reach their dt ton!

  8. GravatarBy Chad on May 29, 2008 | Reply

haha good call Roy, like raising the bat to the crowd in cricket when you get a ton :)

i reckon its more likely that geelong will lay 147 tackles on carlton on their way to a big win. very bad time to be playing the cats this week.

    Hey dude,
Did you hear that we shot down Albert Lord PHD DT on the Coaches Box this week? He claimed that the action behind him would have seen the player 4 points better off for the tackle, but actually he tackled late and would have given the player a free kick and costing the DT coach 3 points, meaning instead of being 4 points up he would be 3 down. Can you get the good doctor to fix that point up next week.

Thanks mate and good luck with the Footy Show tickets!

On a more serious note, I noted that the press kept saying that the Pies tactics where going to be used by other teams against the pies like it was some sort of a revelation. My question is which side wouldn’t you use this tactic against?

Ronnie Burns has a top score of 90 which he has reached on 3 occasions. Against the Kangas in 1996, then against St KIlda in 2001 and then against Collingwood in 2003 (presumably playing for the crows)

If they take up the same game style and can keep it up the whole match adam Bentick will have like 30 tackles.

What constitutes a tackle do you have to actually disposses the player being tackled or cause a stoppage? I mean does a tackle count if if a tackle is laid but the opposing player manages to just get out a handball?

  22. GravatarBy Chad on May 29, 2008 | Reply

sassy, wait until the teams are out to see if chapman is playing, and if he is named, wait until 10 mins before the game to see if he is playing :)

If i could tell the future i would be down to the TAB not on here :)

Every other week some team or other talks about making more tackles. Last week it was Freo, and they still made 0 tackles in the last quarter.

Collingwood has always been a tackling team, so having a particularly good tackling game is not a shock. Carlton is… OK, I guess (some more than others). On the other hand, it doesn’t matter how much a team like Freo or the Saints talk about tackling- it just won’t happen in the game, because they might break a nail.

And yep, Judd is DT gooooold (for all the other midfielders in his team).

I am a die hard catters supporter and ronnie burns was a hack in my books. Cats will destroy carlton this week, Joel Corey for 20 tackles on his own! haha

  25. GravatarBy Raf on May 29, 2008 | Reply

Lad: Pretty sure it only counts if the target of the tackle doesn’t make a legitimate disposal, whether it’s holding the ball, a stoppage or they just get “dispossessed” and throw the ball a mile away (I mean, get the ball flung out of their hands by the sheer power of the hand on their jumper).

why on earth would ling go to stevens over judd. stevens isnt even that good. as one stupid eagles supporter pointed out when he kicked the ball lace-out to fev: “hey stevens, youre fat.” genius. but the point is, hes not that damaging, nowhere near as much as judd. he just gets plenty of cheap ball on the half back line. and if he wasnt playing geelong this week id probably put him el capitano. you heard the mathman - hes been the number 1 player over the past 3 weeks.

Molly - there must have been something wrong with the ‘Remote Control’… I think that Chop didn’t start his tackle as soon as he could have!!

Nice pick up tho… will bring it up with Albert Lord!! ;)

  29. GravatarBy dylan on May 29, 2008 | Reply

is it just me or would anyone else like to see how judd goes for a whole game without been tagged for once?

Gamble out for those who still have him.

  33. GravatarBy Avan on May 29, 2008 | Reply

Jake Edwards out??? Wtf do you have to do to keep a spot in that useless team?

  34. GravatarBy GJ on May 29, 2008 | Reply

yeah. rioli, palmer, cotchin, wellingham and wona all out too. why not throw ablett, bartel and corey in there as well.

  35. GravatarBy Avan on May 29, 2008 | Reply

Valenti you asshat as if get dropped. Dropped from the shittest team to ever walk onto a footy field. Embarrassing.

Chappy you son of a bitch. I cant believe i could have left Rioli there and it would all be happy days. Instead you and your mate Gamble don’t play so I’m eating donuts…I hate eating friggen donuts!!!! Soft @$#%#^!!!!!! Kennelly does his shoulder, then his knee and vomits from pain on the sideline and is back earning points while you pull a hammy lifting a latte and have to sit it out again!!!!!! Soft @^%^&!!!!!!

  40. GravatarBy Chad on May 29, 2008 | Reply

If Kennelly was playing he would be named on ground. It is extended interchange, so i doubt Kennelly is going to play.

  41. GravatarBy Raf on May 29, 2008 | Reply

Geez, Jake Edwards out even with Jarrad Waite out as well, and Kreuzer named at CHB? Carlton is extracting the urine. But Kennelly back (please let him play!)… Symes still on the bench. Could be a giant risk of goose-egg here, but it can’t be helped. I’d feel stupid trading Symes after holding him so long.

Valenti out, so I just have to let Tippett ride.

Any rookies in at all besides yet another Kangaroo trap?

  42. GravatarBy Avan on May 29, 2008 | Reply

This is a horror round… most of the decent rookies have been dropped? Gamble, Valenti, Masten, Edwards, Pfeiffer, West, and Gamble. Any that I missed? How gay. I’d like to buy everyone a round of donuts.

  43. GravatarBy Avan on May 29, 2008 | Reply

Oh I said Gamble twice. Well he’s doubly shit then.

  44. GravatarBy Avan on May 29, 2008 | Reply

    Oh and Morton.

  45. GravatarBy KRG on May 29, 2008 | Reply

Well Mr Chapman that makes you look partially better. So I retract the profanity but will leave ‘Soft’ there for the moment. But if Kennelly does play you should be ashamed.

  46. GravatarBy Raf on May 29, 2008 | Reply

Gods, Masten out too. Ah well. Just slows his topping out for another week and means that a late mid withdrawal is covered by Stephen Browne instead.
