Calvin’s Captains

Arh har me hearties - Few rippers for you this week. Plus a few newbies in here to look at! So you understand - #8 Cox - 110 (#8 is his DT ranking based on averages and then his score Vs opponent). Sorry for last week, giving Chad my #1 spot and the order I placed some players, something I take massive pride in, but we can’t predict injuries can we. Some people like to ‘go against the flow’ and pick away from my selections… fair enough, good luck with it, but I know best! Enjoy!

West Coast Vs Carlton

  • #41 Judd - 101*

  • #8 Cox - 110

  • #11 Murphy - 81

Game of the round. Juddernaught back home Vs the Eagles with no Kerr or Priddis! In 2007 in Judd’s first 6 games he averaged 29 disposals and 4 tackles. First 6 with the Blues he’s averages 23 touches and nearly 5 tackles. He’s starting to heat up and he’ll go off his face this week. Cox is under a very dark and starting to rain injury cloud and nearly can’t be considered as a Captain - but he does average 24 touches and 25 hitouts Vs Carlton in his last 2 games Vs them - risky if you want it! *Judds score is based on form as he hasn’t yet played against his old club.

Geelong Vs Brisbane

  • #2 Bartel - 113

  • #4 Ablett - 109

  • #45 Chapman - 105

  • #1 Corey - 86

  • #19 Black - 59

  • #233 Brown - 76

Don’t know why I am still putting up Brownies name… YES, he is ranked 233, but some people still might go him - NOT ME despite the fact he kicked 7 goals in his last game Vs the Cats, he is leaving his 68,222 Dt coaches feeling very pissed! Bartel averages 113 Vs the Lions that consists of an average of 26 disposals a game. Expect Ablett to score well after the big fuss in the media this week in regards to taggers (he’ll have more room). Black can’t find the ball Vs Geelong only averaging 16 touches (59pts) a game Vs them,  mainly thanks to the Pink Pig. Although Black has been in much better form in ‘08! Get on anyone here who is wear horizontal stripes, you cant go wrong!

Richmond Vs St Kilda

  •  #18 Montagna - 117

  • #62 Rievoldt - 103

  • #6 K. Johnson - 67

  • #20 Hayes - 88

  • #23 Riiicho - 83

He will rip it to peices - if you have him. Montagna! He averages 30 touches a game Vs St Kilda and has some form to back it up. Reivoldt has averaged 9 marks and 3 goals a game in his last 3 Vs them but is only averaging a quiet 85 for the year. Hayes averages 88 Vs the Tigs, but one of those games was a 54 (so the others were tops!) DT’s #6 ranked DT player K. Johnson might be a little quieter here. He only averages 67, but his form says YES. And yes, I can’t spell Reilvodt I just throw those letters together and hope they land close, and I can’t be bothered looking it up each time cause I have a bad memory and I can’t be bothered looking up each time cause I have a bad memory.

Hawthorn Vs Collingwood

  • #17 Swan - 102

  • #29  Hodge - 87

  • #42 Mitchell - 94

  • #32 H. Shaw - 88

  • #31 Buddy - 69

  • #12 Medhurst - 68

Did you hear that…”POP”…oh there it was again. Medhurst your bubble has burst! Most likely he’ll prove me wrong, but I know I’ll call it one game soon. Buddy let some guys down kicking 1 goal 7 pts last week, missing out on billions of DT points, he’ll suck again! Swan is your man here with his last 3 games Vs the Hawks going 125, 54, 126 umm? I like Hodge due to his form and DT ability, he’s one to watch for sure! Speaking of Collingwood, I’m still not over the fact that Jonathon (World DT leader) doesn’t want a beer with Uncle Calvin! Ggrrr

Adelaide Vs Kangaroos

  •  #24 Harvey - 106

  • #22 Thompson - 106

  • #10 Goodwin - 89

Scottie Thompson averages 25 touches and 4 tackles Vs the Kangas (106pts) but it’s Harvey who gets my #1 spot here as he averages the same but averages 31 disposals in his last 2 Vs the Crows and should go well again! Beware though, as said on ‘Stat Attack’ this week, the Kangas only allowed one player last week (Goodes) to score over 100, they have players who have a nose for shutting people down like B B Brady. Goodwin never played the Kangas in 07, but I’m sure he wanted too, he just didn’t.

Melbourne Vs Fremantle

  • #40  Pav - 118

  • #9 Green - 98

Is Brad Green going off his face? or is Brad Green going off his face? umm yep, he’s got their B&F locked in already. His ranked #9 overall and averages 98 Vs the Dockers. Big Pav will be the gun in this game. In his last 2 games Vs the Dees, hes averaged 22 touches to go with a total of 9 goals! One slice of Pav please! - shit joke!

Sydney Vs Western Dogs

  • #100 Goodes - 86

  • #3 Cross - 82

  • #50 Kirk - 78

  • #83 West - 69

  • #136 B.J - 90

Your guess is as good as mine here. Sydney as we know are the best DT defenders Cross might find it a touch harder this week. He averages 82 Vs them, but will have a tough day. B.J’s form say NO as he is still fighting to be fit along with veteran team mate Scottie West who is averaging 82 this year. The game is in Sydney, the worst ground for DT so selecting a Captain here, you will be doing so at your own risk. Goodes dominated last week and looked back to his best and despite his low average of 86 Vs the Dogs, his form gets him my #1 spot here.

Essendon Vs Port Adelaide

  • #13 Kane Cornes - 100

  • #43 Stanton - 82

If last weeks game is anything to go by - Port players will have monster scores Vs Essendon. The Bombers allowed the top 5 Collingwood players last week to average 125 each… which makes me say three words, Kane Kane Kane Kane opps too many ‘Kanes’ but thats how excited I am! Tit-ed asked me today “how will Kane play without his brother?” I said “good, shut up Tit” - won’t effect him surely, if anything, he’ll work harder!

CALVIN’S TOP PICKS FOR ROUND 7

  1. JIMMY BARTEL

  2. LEIGH MONTAGNA

  3. MATTHEW PAVLICH

  4. KANE CORNES

  5. CHRIS JUDD

Last week I had Chad (my Capt avg. = 110)

    Kane v Pav v Corey?

    Hard one…

Forwards so unreliable this season, Melbourne getting better, kept JB quiet

Kane tagging Stanton? Risky, could be a dud round for him

Corey kept quiet last time they played.. risky on past form

    grrr! no safe bets!

It’s all McPh-ucked because of CHAD!

I think I need some chad counselling to get over it

    :)

The “Calvin’s Captain’s” logo looks ridiculously cool. Having learned last week that Warnie made it and this week that he is a teacher, if he’s not teaching IT then the students at his school are missing out!

Onto the subject at hand. Calvin, I may have hurled abuse in your direction after your unusual take on Fremantle’s loss last Friday night, but I reckon you’re right on the money here with your comment that Chris Judd will “go off his face this week.” Fair dinkum, aside from last week he’s been in good form - and up against his old side (which is now but a shadow of what it was)… he might crack the double century this week.

Pavlich or Kane Cornes might score more than him - but they won’t score all that much more. And that’s IF they do. If you’ve got him, you’d have to back him in this round.

Incidentally Calvin, I’d have a beer with you - I reckon I might actually owe you one after going nuts at you last weekend! I still haven’t recovered from that bloody loss either. I was sitting exactly behind where Pavlich kicked from too…

I’ve got Hayes and Pav,but I think Salopek could be a very good option this week. Any thoughts (I think he is in #32 possie ave 91). The bombers do play an open game

Im going to pick juddy as my skippa but do west coast have any good taggers?

  18. GravatarBy kingbuck on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

Freo always play shit after playing a good game, so don’t be surprised if pav chokes this week!

  20. GravatarBy COLLINGW08D on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

  21. GravatarBy BrayDog on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

I got no idea who to captain this week with my main man - Cross - playing the swans.

Might have to go to Reiwoldt.

  22. GravatarBy Brendan on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

I’ll have a beer with you Calvin, and I’ll also invite my DT captain, Joel Corey, the current #1 player in the league - he went to a new level in 07 and has gone up again in 08.

This Calvin’s captains was actually pretty funny too … and it’s spelt Riewoldt. :)

  23. GravatarBy Brendan on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

Also, have ppl seen the Fantasy Freako email this week - Why would you pick up Brad Johnson now when he is injured?????
It would be different if he was just out of form.

  24. GravatarBy COLLINGW08D on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

yer n when the captains had their meeting at the start of the season only 1 captain sed corey would win the brownlow(not sure who that was tho but could b right)

  25. GravatarBy Dan on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

    @warney/roy

Fair enough, I didn’t watch Bris vs Mel :) just assumed it was Melbourne - was recovering from my bucks night so wasn’t in mood for anything as exciting as BRL vs MEL…

    @kingbuck

I agree - Pav is risky

Freo is the kind of team to beat Geelong one weekend and then lose to Melbourne the next.

That’s why you never put Freo as your knockout in tipping…

    Dan.

    Hmm, Kane or Corey…

  27. GravatarBy Avan on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

Jimmy it is! Was already planning for him to be captain anyway. Going the Big Cox is a massive risk.. I would only try it if my eliminator opponent had a way better team than me and I needed some luck. Besides, you would think with all the talk in the media this week, midfielders who are usually closely tagged will probably run riot. Corey, Bartel, Ablett, Cross, Judd, Goodes, Swan… take your pick. Except Black. Something tells me the Pink Pig doesn’t care about the media.

IM GOING KANE I THINK - dont have the others

hey.. those warnie comments weren’t from me - the real warnie… will have a poll up tomorrow to vote for ur captain… i’m leaning towards either Pav or Kane… wish I had a jet cat right now!! i don’t think ryan gamble will cut it!!

  32. GravatarBy Warnie on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

@ michael… i don’t teach IT unfortunately… i teach maths and phys ed… dt in maths, how to be a better dt player in phys ed… in our footy training today, played a keepings off and it was their goal to rack up as many DT points as they could in 5 mins.. they loved it! haha… tackles flying everywhere… and plenty of short kicks and running past to get it back - a few potential captains amongst them!!

  33. GravatarBy Avan on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

Love it Warnie. I’m a primary school teacher and last year I had my entire class make their own DT Team and we had 2 full leagues. I fucking killed them all. Just too good for the 11 year olds.

  39. GravatarBy Raf on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply

I might just take a punt on Pavlich or Riewoldt this week, or keep the faith with Ablett if I’m feeling a little less risky. Scott Thompson will get Rawlings this year and Swan will probably get Sewell, both a little risky.

  40. GravatarBy Ed on May 1, 2008 | Reply

I’m thinking of taking a punt and going Didak.

  41. GravatarBy Warnie on May 1, 2008 | Reply

@ Adam - it’s good for the ego tho… ;) haha.. it makes me feel good beating the kids… especially when you have a mars bar riding on the outcome of a league game… haha.. like taking candy from a baby! :P

  42. GravatarBy Stabillo on May 1, 2008 | Reply

    At Raf:
As good a dt player that Swan is, he’s not in the same class real footywise. No chance that he’ll be tagged, his disposals is shocking, which is one of the reasons why he such a dt star.

  43. GravatarBy Raf on May 1, 2008 | Reply

I know that, it’s the same reason Joel Corey is such a DT star (still remember that the Roos actually tagged him in that qualifying final ass-kicking and kept him quiet, not that it did them any good!), but the Collingwood midfield is short on tag-worthy people.

It’s like the way Palmer is possibly going to keep copping tags for Freo (although honestly, that was showboating by Geelong, Ling should have kept tagging Bell) and Masten might even get tagged by Carlton this week in the absence of Kerr (although in all likelihood the #1 tag by whoever Carlton’s #1 tagger is will go to Embley… suffer, all those who still have Embley!).

  44. GravatarBy Stabillo on May 1, 2008 | Reply

    Sewell will go to pendles

  45. GravatarBy stig on May 1, 2008 | Reply

    corey or riewoldt??

  46. GravatarBy rippersteveM5 on May 1, 2008 | Reply

^No, I reckon Sewell might pick up O’Bree. To start off, anyway.

I might go Swan as my cap this week. He’s “untaggable” because he starts on the bench most weeks. Sure, some of his disposals are terrible, but that doesn’t matter in DT does it?

  47. GravatarBy Adam on May 1, 2008 | Reply

@ Warnie - I know what you mean regarding the ego boost, I take some bloody massive screamers over those little shits.

  48. GravatarBy buckers on May 1, 2008 | Reply

arghh judd or kane? im a huge eagles fan- therefore judd as well… and with the eagles midfield- well there is no midfeild.. he will kill it- he will read all of cox’s taps- and against kruzer and cloke will kill it IF he is fit - remember jonathan griffin got 35 h/o last week- and he is Sh*t….
on the flipside kane will run riot against the dons.. any thoughts?
Is i had either corey/gablett bartel it would be a dead set certainty as capt for anyone out there… brisbane dont tag… and will get smashed at skilled!

I reckon Pendles is in for some serious tagging - much likeMurphy last year.

  51. GravatarBy Bacon on May 4, 2008 | Reply

I originally made Heath Shaw my captain, but after thinking the Hawks forwards would make it difficult for him, I changed it.

    And he makes 150!!

Lucky my replacement, Sammy Mitchell got 122, or I’d be spewin’.

And my opponent has Gary Ablett, so I’ll get a win still.
