Chad Cornes Update

Chad Cornes and his broken finger News from the Herald Sun Superfooty site says that the earliest that Chad Cornes could play on the 24th May. So that means he will miss this week against Essendon, the Dream Team game and then the game against Hawthorn. This is the best case scenario… 2 DT games. Could be more though.

As DT coaches, we can only hope that those bench players that so many of us have will get a game… Scott D Thompson, Harry Taylor, Austin Wonaeamirri, Albert Proud or Scott Selwood (altough we have heard unconfirmed rumours that he was injured on the weekend in the WAFL) will have the pressure on them this week for a few extra points this week.

What are your backline worries? Got cover? Will you sit on the Cornes trade? Do you have other injured/suspended/shit backs like Bret Thornton, Joel Bowden, Shannon Hurn, etc?

Bloody Hurn, Cox and Cornes all a worry. Got Ibbotson and D.Myers on the bench for the backs so I might trade Hurn for???? to avoid a zero. Hope Cox plays. Wood and Kreuzer a bit weak as starting rucks together. Blood y problems.

if i dont make a trade ill have chad and thornton definitely out with proud and selwood unlikely to play. stupid defensive line.

i reckon ill bench chad til he returns, but trade thornton out for goddard. and hope leigh matthwes picks albert proud.

Ive still got bowden sitting on the bench and now the chad is injured… both wonaeamirri and harry taylor might be getting a game for me this week. Surely Bowden will be back in with Richmond having a loss

I am probably going to have to trade Proud for Ibbotson. Slightly kicking myself that I traded Ozzie for Goddard but I hope it will pay off in the end. Ozzie will put in some good ones but will put in some 30s and 40s as well.

I also hope P Burgoyne can keep up his stella form. Symes is a worry as well and don’t get me started on Waters!

The reason that there is a shortage of any kinda of decent backs this year is because they have them all named in the mid-field.. Carrazo has played down back all year and is only named as a mid-fielder and the list just goes on and on… scotland is another… jess sinclair i think is named aa centre… i’m ranting and i could be wrong but there is not enough backs/centres in the comp for us to be able to have solid backline…. people are having to resort to Bradshawwho plays the furthest away from the backling as humanly possibly (aorat from Bowden that is)

Yeah, it seems weird that guys like Carazzo and Sinclair and Hodge didn’t get named as backs when Chad Cornes and Andrew Mcleod did.

I have been royally cursed this year.
I’ve had Scott Lucas, Barry Hall, Shannon Hurn and Chad Cornes.
I’ve still got BJ and JB and all the hyped up rookies that can’t get a game - Scott DT, Albert Proud, Selwood and Geary.

Justin, it depends your goals. You might be best trading Thorton and on of the bench backs to two low priced backs. Ibbotson and another.

Just a thought. I am sure it will be a topic on the Coaches Box this week.

I’ll preface this by saying I’m an absolute DT rookie, in my very first season, with limited AFL knowledge!

I have a pretty budget backline, with only Chad and Gilbee above 300k.

Have had Harry O’Brien in there all season, and have been continuing along thinking he’s at a rookie price. But have just checked and seen I paid roughly $191k for him! He doesn’t give a great return for that money.

If I trade him I have roughly $194k to play with. Pretty slim picking for that price I know, but one name I recognised was Trent Croad. I notice he appears to have been injured in rd 1, but has played the last two games, for low points tallies. His price has gone down about 30k.

Has he been a decent DTer in the past? Is he worth getting on after a price drop?

Other options are Wona, Ibbotson or Cameron Wight. Any thoughts?

Well I’m another in this whole debacle. Bench players are hartlett and edwards with Cornes and Symes on the field. Hopefully Symes plays, Hartlett is out for a few weeks (useless prick) but who knows, Edwards may come in after the injuries to Thornton, Hartlett and the like. I’m hoping so anyway.

My other thought though was Jake King is absolutely dominating this year so I thought I would maybe trade Cornes for King and then get Cornes again a couple of weeks after he returns when he has dropped 20-30k.

Id get Ibbotson. He looks like he can get a fair bit of the ball. Wona is good for 50-60 a game but Ibbotson has a greater potential to get higher scores

Yergs you think you are cursed?!
I have lost Lucas, Dew, Chad and Thornton.
With Symes and Cox questionable, and have Jonathon Brown and Brad Johnson underperforming in the forward line and Bowden and Proud collecting donuts in the backline! Not to mention I had Nicoski who I traded for Pears instead of Ibbotson…

What are peoples thoughts on Jake King? I’m thinking of trading Thornton for him.

hmm whats the matter with symesy? i know he didnt put in a solid score on the w/e but did he get injured or something?

i have the chad with bloody hansen and edwards on my bench and pefierifer (how the fuck do you spel that) as my 7th defender..i hope he doesnt get dropped otherwise thats two donunts

Hey Rob,
Don’t take this the wrong way as I made those mistakes as well but you have to seperate the idea of good player (i.e. Trent Croad, Rutten, Glass, etc) and good DT players.

Croad is an absolute gun (kept Jono Brown almost kickless) but isn’t a great DT player.

In your situation, look for someone like Ibbotson if you don’t have him. He will get you some points and still go up in value so you can look to upgrade him later.

I’m one of the lucky/unlucky ones not to have Chad. Only injury worrys I have are Franklin and Cox. Both of which have a bench player which can replace them.

I have Hurn, Chad, and got Thornton in for Nickoski. I can cover one of these three with womerriiieeee, but that leaves two zeros thinking of trading chad for shaw and with cash trading thornton or hurn for someone. Any thoughts???

the wallcob, Symes sprained his ankle in the 3rd quarter (I think) against Carlton but ended up coming back on in the 4th. He will most probably play but much like Cox won’t be at his best.
Of course I hope I’m wrong and he dominates

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’d actually hold on to Nicoski for a while considering Hurn and Hunter are out for 6 weeks. Having said that, I traded him a while ago. He sucks.

i have about 124k remaining,
i am leaning towards dropping Thornton for Ibbotson and sit out Chad until he gets back… and with the remaining cash upgrade Josh Hill to (hate to say it) Didak or Medhurst…

I am almost decided that The Chad and Thornton will both be traded and become Jake “and the Fatman” King and Lindsay Gilbee. Unless someone can convince me otherwise.

I do hope that Symes is ok because i cannot make 3 trades this week unfortunately and Selwood and Proud look like Reserves material at the moment.

I think the rule of thumb is that if you have Chad AND you have Thornton or some other zero in the backline like Hurn in desperate need of upgrading, do the double trade to King and Gilbee or McLeod and Shaw or whoever you can afford and don’t already have.

Or if you’re really lucky and have only had to use a couple of trades so far and can afford to burn the trade to trade Chad out,then perhaps even trade him back in in a few weeks once he’s returned and his 65 this week has reduced his price a bit.

If you can afford to keep Chad without incurring zeros on the field for a few weeks, and you don’t have trades to burn, probably gotta do that.

I had Thornton and Chad Cornes. I am ticked off as I only picked up Thornton two weeks ago and he get a bad injury. At the time I was tossing up between Thornton and Michael Osbourne, so I have traded Thornton out for Osbourne and I have moved Marcus Drum off my bench and sat Chad down. I also still have Nicoski (no idea why, I must be living in the hope that he returns to form and starts tearing it up again!) A bit of a gamble as I have no bench players in case someone like Symes puts up too sore to play. I have not had a zero so far this season, but if I get any more bad luck I could get my first duck egg.

Can’t believe I am the only stupid bastard that has McPhee or is at least complaining about him. He is worthless and inconsistant!!

Gotta go Chad and McPhee for King and Bradshaw.

I have Chad, Thornton, H.Taylor, Proud and NBrown (only gets 30)….
am thinking about downgrading Dyson to Armitage and use that money to upgrade Thornton to Gilbee and put Chad on the pine with A.Proud and put up with N.Brown and Taylor on the field - ouch!
What do ppl think of Armitage? reckon he will keep playing games? this is the week to get him if he is playing!
If ppl don’t think Armitage will play a lot I may go the double - Chad for King and Thornton for Gilbee so i can put Brown on the bench with Proud.
