Dream Team TV, Wake Up!

Files under 2008 | 31 Comments

One of our great DT mates, Poodle, brought to our attention the new Official AFL Website’s Dream Team TV show (click here to view). He was disturbed about the lack of quality and that it was an “out and out copyright breach of DT Talk”. Well, no… it’s not a copyright breach - because they were probably first… it was however, a little embarrassing.

Official AFL Dream Team TV

Firstly, to attract some male fans, they sexed it up (not that we are against that at all… we have Roy in a wig and tutu at times). Miranda Skermanread out some ‘pointless stats’ from the news desk… Surely the stats that matter are the ones in Chook and Tit-ed’s “Stat Attack” segment from the back of Titta’s car.

Then they got on James Hird to talk about his DT. He didn’t divulge his score, but said he struggled. Then went on to say he didn’t have a team name - surely you need one to actually enter a team?! And what was his biggest stuff up was saying how clangers hurt in DT. Sorry Jim, you know I love you… but they don’t! They just need to get it on the boot - just not kick it out on the full!

We don’t mean to be cynical, but… they are some glaring mistakes in what is the ‘official’ video about Dream Team (we will probably make more mistakes this year, but we aren’t official)!

Fantasy Freako Mail-Out - Round 1

Files under 2008 | 1 Comment

The Freak is back for the regular season now with his infamous “Fantasy Freako” mail-out. Not too much in this issue, but don’t stress or be too devastated, the Freak has promised DT Talk that the mailout will have a heap of information every week of the season to get your side as good as it can be! Here’s what the Freak had to say in his email:

Hi,

Attached is the first H&A edition of the Fantasy Freako Rave. The fact that we’ve had only one round of footy and the prices don’t change until Round 3, we’re limited in the amount of advice we can give. Once we hit Round 3 the rave will include a lot more information and advice.

Fantasy Freako

Calvin’s Captains - Rd 2

This week I thought I’d go through and look at all the games, picking the top dudes (showing their avg in their last 3 games Vs their opponent) and showing you who’s most likely to rip it up! - enjoy

Brisbane Vs Collingwood @ GABBA

  1. Black  - 108

  2. Swan - 99

  3. Brownie - 99

  4. Lappin - 96

Black got back to Brownlow form last week with 30 touches but it was the Browndawg who drilled 6 goals straight that will get people interested this week, he should have a ripper but Prestigimicombover might have something to say about that.

Melbourne Vs Bulldogs @ MCG

  1. Cross - 121

  2. Bruce - 111

  3. Cooney - 97

  4. BJ - 93

What the bloody hell happened to Melbourne last week? BJ was wicked with his 123 pts and he will love the MCG (3rd best DT scoring ground) he’ll kick a bag cause apparently Melbourne don’t play defence. Daniel Cross looks the goods too. He was solid last week with 25 touches and 4 tackles, its his handballs that discourage DT coaches, 16 last week, KICK IT CROSSY.

Adelaide Vs West Coast @ AAMI

  1. Cox - 124

  2. Goodwin 107

  3. Priddis - 104

  4. Kerr - 97

  5. Bocky - 69

West Coast last week had 426 possessions (the most in the comp last week) and with Cox picking up 29 touches, 22 hit outs, 121 DTpts oh my! Coxy will be my boy again this week! Just lay a few more tackles Coxy, you only had 1 last week….buts that’s probably being DT greedy! West Coast also had 8 players who scored 95+.  Pick any of them!!

St Kilda Vs Carlton @ TD

  1. Hayes - 117

  2. Reiwoldt - 116

  3. Dal Santa - 101

  4. Fev - 95

  5. Judd - 83

  6. Stevo - 74

Good news Fev fans, he’ll be right this week. Not as captain though, cause you have better players, but he’ll improve on his 51pts last week. Reiwoldt should be good this week, backing up his 100 last week.

Fremantle Vs Hawks @ SUBI

  1. Mitchell - 108

  2. Pav - 63

  3. Buddy - 48

Ok ok, yes. Buddy had 107pts, kicked 6 goals, but anyone can play well when their team is 100 up on Melbourne. But not this week. Bipolar will kick in to its fullest and no medication will help! Pav is a concern here as well averaging 63! Pav was good last week with 93pts grabbing 10 marks and having 21 touches, but the Hawks do something to him that he obviously doesn’t like, I have no idea what.

Sydney Vs Port @ SCG

  1. Kane - 86

  2. Chad - 76

  3. Hall - 74

  4. Kirk - 56

You know what Barry, I’d actually be happy with 74 this week! Yeah….I picked him! The big news here however is, Sydney will lock you down! Kane avg. 86! Chad 76! Plus, this game is at the SCG the worst ground for DT points, my tip - AVOID the Cornes Bros as Captains this week! Sydney locked the Saints down last week in their 51-49 loss only allowing one player (Reiwoldt) to score over 100. Plus, Goodes is going to be doing what he did in 2007, “playing himself into form” by locking down Chad, bloody shit! He held Chad to just 38 DT points last year. - You have been warned!
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,23426598-19742,00.html

Geelong Vs Essendon @ TD

  1. Corey - 124

  2. Chapman - 120

  3. Gablett - 105

  4. Bartell - 80

  5. Stanton - 60

I’m sorry Stanton, but you will most likely have a disgusting pink pig hanging on your arm this week. Shawn Burgoyne had it last week and he couldn’t wash the redness off him for days! Joel Corey last week had 30 touches, 11 tackles, ouch! and with an average Vs Ess of 124, he’s gunna do it again! If I don’t go Coxy this week, Mr. Chapman will be very high in my thinking.

Richmond Vs Kangaroos @ MCG

  1. Richo - 93

  2. Simpson - 83

  3. Bowden - 82

This will probably be a very painful game to watch! Joel let a lot of people down last week and needs to get back to scabbing kicks across the backline. But RICCHHHOO, ha ha, I love the way he bitches all the time, gotta love Richo! 5 goals last week to go with 11 marks and has a great record Vs the Roos.

SOGGY CAPTAINS

Now, I’ve had some big knockers of DT talks SOGGY CAPTAIN theory. Yes, I agree tackling increases but kick to mark possesions are WAY down. We’ll I did some research. Rd 1 NAB Cup Bulldogs V Kangas, very very soggy conditions, Bulldogs top 5 players players in that game avg. 76 (with the highest of 83) then the next week their top 5 avg. 89 (highest of 101) in perfect conditions. Not a coincidence my friends. Anyway, from what I gather in Rd 2, Melbourne (not the TD!) will be hit by alot of showers, and also a few for Adelaide and “windy” weather for Perth. I’m tipping DT scores to be lower this week…..maybe….. who knows… not me!

CALVIN’S TOP THREE 4 PICKS FOR ROUND 2

  1.  JOEL COREY

  2. DEAN COX

  3. NICK REIWOLDT and PAUL CHAPMAN

My LAST WEEK TIPS - Kane Cornes 108, Cox 121, Pav 92 (I had Cox)

HMMM… Who to CHOP???

Files under 2008 | 59 Comments

Round One fo the AFL posed many questions and I must admit that I was licking my lips at the potential Chops that I could make for the upcoming show… never in my DT career have I seen so many players underperform… High priced players and even rookies who promised so much during the pre-season…

  • How on earth did Jake King have 24 touches and only get 80 points… too many handballs toolshiner…
  • Brad Symes 6 free kicks against… you have got to be kidding me
  • Barry Hall… 48 points and still refuses to catch the bloody ball properly
  • Brett Deledio… starting in the pocket with that ridiculous hair cut
  • Craig Bird… looking like a fish out of water or an asian chicken with a case of the bird flu… thanks Tit-ed
  • Jason Gram… 26 points and you’re over 300k… Buddy’s better value
  • Brett Stanton…  Tagged out of the game… bloody Brady Rawlings

So many options and only one chop… who will it be??? Write in and give me your suggestions are there any that I’ve missed????? There were a lot of bad DT’ers on the weekend… let me know what you think.

Aurion V6 AFL Dream TeamAurion V6 AFL Dream TeamAurion V6 AFL Dream TeamAurion V6 AFL Dream TeamAurion V6 AFL Dream TeamThe Dream Team site is now open for round two… some things that are exciting to see is that there are 137,747 people in the competition (that’s less than SuperCoach - good one AFL, you only have yourself to blame! Get it open earlier.). To make the top 100, you needed to score more than 1,959 points. Jonathon Brown was the most selected player, followed by Matthew Kreuzer, Cyril RioliChad Cornes and Kurt Tippett. Once again, the Hawthorn supporters are looking like the best at the moment and the South Australians are the state with the best average (come on Tassie!). All these stats and more are there for your viewing pleasure on the site.

Oh and the fixtures for our leagues are up… I know the Warne Dawgs aren’t very happy about playing Tackling Tit-ed and destROY in the first two rounds… ouch!

DT Round Review: Round 1

Files under 2008 | 134 Comments

Here is our weekly wrap up of how some of our Dream Team players faired over the round. We’re not going to list everyone, just some most DT coaches would mutually find good, bad or ugly! Add yours for this round in the comments section of this post!

cash_tick.jpgThat’s why I paid the big bucks on you (expensive picks who did their job):
Sensational efforts by these blokes. Pay the big bucks and they pay off… good captain choices also this week! The Port vs Geelong game had plenty of these guys. Joel Corey (149), James Kelly (119), Chad Cornes (116), Paul Chapman (101) Darren Milburn (99) and Gary Ablett Jr (97). On Saturday we saw Dane Swan (122), Dean Cox (122), Matt Priddis (117), Nick Riewoldt (100) and Heath Shaw (95) all do what you would expect for their worth! Brad Johnson (123) was awesome in his 300th along with team mates Adam Cooney (109) and Scott West (96). Sam Mitchell (118) lead the way for the Hawks.

cash_up.jpgWoohoo! The faith was there… show me the money (has performed better than their average):
Round One always gives us a few suprises! This list is certainly not all of the players who played above their average, but quite a few of these were the picks that we heard about around the traps - especially the smokie picks - who, if they continue along this path, should go up in value. Bret Thornton (124), Daniel Giansiracusa (123), Anthony Rocca (117), Stuart Dew (113), Brett Jones (113), Des Headland (109), Lance Franklin (107), Beau Waters (101), David Mundy (100), Tadgh Kennelly (99), Mark Nicoski (97), Paul Medhurst (91), Josh Hill (86), Chris Egan (85), Troy Simmonds (82), Kieren Jack (81) Matt Thomas (80), Nathan Thompson (80), Lindsay Thompas (78), Jarryn Geary (77), Sam Lonergan (77), Nick Stevens (75), Xavier Ellis (68), Cyril Rioli (66), Paul Stewart (62), Bernie Vince (61).

axe1.jpgMaybe the Chopping Block for you (stinker… crapper than what you thought they’d be):
Oh my god… why be worth that much and stink it up? Seriously think about getting rid of these guys if that’s what their 2008 Dream Team season is going to be all about! Rightio… lets start with some ‘walk up’ players into a few teams that were no where near what they should have done: Ricky Dyson (22), Mark LeCras (25), Jason Gram (26), Aaron Davey (36) Brent Stanton (37), Adam Goodes (39), Barry Hall (48), Scott Pendlebury (49), Brad Symes (50), Andrew Embley (51), Brendon Fevola (51), Bryce Gibbs (55), Brett Kirk (57), Brett Deledio (57), Andrew McLeod (58), Byron Schammer (58), James McDonald (59), Ryan Griffen (61), Shaun Burgoyne (61), Steve Johnson (71), Joel Bowden (74), . A special mention must go to Sydney’s Craig Bird (18) - he is priced at $83,500 - if he continues to get scores like that, he will actually drop in value!

firstaid.jpgArgh… injuries, suspensions… stupidness (maybe a forced trade?!):
A DT coaches worst nightmare… having to do a forced trade after round 1! And to rub insult to injury, being left with a crap score to boot! Here are some of the guys who will be of concern come Friday. Jed Adcock - shin (6), Trent Croad - disclocated wrist (7), Corey Jones - cut head (10), Heath Black - eye (12), Scott Lucas - knee (18), Adam Hartlett - possible report (48), Brent Rielly  - wrist (81), Kane Johnson - club suspension for pissing in public = stupidness (85).

So… Round 1 has come and gone. In the comments we want to hear who your pick is for the 4 categories for this week:

  1. That’s why I paid the Big Bucks on you…
  2. Woohoo… the Faith was there, Show me the Money!
  3. Maybe the Chopping Block for you…
  4. Injuries/Suspensions…

You can also brag/sook about what you scored this round, whether or not your captain was a good choice plus anything else on your mind…

It’s Only Round 1!

Files under 2008 | 46 Comments

This is great! Exactly what DT is all about… being pissed off with your players, loving the great choices you have made, bagging out your mates! But lets get some things straight… firstly, it is only round 1! Do you think that every team who won this weekend will make the top 8? Do you think that your player will average exactly what they got in this game for the rest of the year? No… they won’t, but it does give us a sign of things to come - especially with positions, roles, etc. The reason for this post is simple… looking at this year’s AFL Prospectus, in the Fantasy Land section, it has a graph which shows the points needed to make the weekly top 50 (page 357).

In 2007, the top 50 was just a tad over 2000pts. It would be safe to assume that it will be around that again this year. This figure finished in the mid-2300’s by the end of the season. This is because of trading and building the value of your team. So… Don’t be too stressed! Even the best Dream Team coach was caught out in that 2 hours of madness prior to the first lockout, so you’re never out of it! Judging by the comments on here, most people are looking at 1700+… nice stuff!! Remember, there are a lot of nuff nuffs out there who will be looking at sub 1500 scores - with full lists and little scope for the future!

If you are reading DT Talk, then you obviously take your DT seriously enough to know that it is early days… and it’s probably a good idea to hold off this week for that ‘heated’ trade people are thinking of and see what happens after round 2 (as prices change after the round 3 scores are locked in). Oh boy… there’s still over 22 weeks to go! I love it!
