The Break Evens

Files under 2008 | Posted by Warnie

You may have heard the term “Break Even“ and wondered what the hell it is all about! Well, it is an important part of your Dream Team week from now on! It determines what a player has to do in their next game to hold their value and help you decide who to get in or who to trade. For example, if a player has been playing crap the last couple of weeks and scoring well below what their Dream Team worth is, then their price will drop and vice versa (for more about how all this works, see our blog entry about the ‘Magic Number’). Our friend Chad has made working this out easy by putting together a breakeven calculator. Check out the Resources page to get into it.

Here are some examples:

  • Jason Porplyzia ($256,200). Scored 77 and 108. Break Even = -8 points.
Will definately go up in value, he doesn’t even have to score!
  • Dean Cox ($436,600). Scored 121 and 140. Break Even = 40 points.
Should smash that score and go up from his already massive price!
  • Justin Koschitzke ($320,200). Scored 63 and 24. Break Even = 134 points.
Possible, but very unlikely… look for a price drop!
  • Chris Tarrant ($311,500). Scored 38 and 32. Break Even = 145 points.
No chance… will certainly drop in value!
So, what you are looking at is who to ‘get on’ or ‘get off’… Post below in the comments who you think are good buys, or good players to sell at this important time… the last chance before most guys play their third game and ultimate price change!

James Kelly is my best pick at the moment. With the amount of possessions Geelong amass each week and the fine form he is in, I can see him averaging over 100 each week from here on and hes only $333100 at the moment!.

Chad, was it you on fan footy yesterday who claimed that Bartel only one his brownlow because he picks up cheap possessions through the midfield?

You have a lot to learn…

So if they were injured rd1 ala Lucas his price wont change till he plays 3 games?

is it worth tradin leunberger 4 cox or should i trade schofield or barlow(who r both on the field in my backline) 4 s.fisher

Hawthorn still have a couple of gun midfielders to come back into their side over the next few weeks, probably se Osbornes numbers come down then, however at 230k and averaging over 100 he is tempting. He’s one I’m looking at for my 7th back, along with Xavier Ellis who is a little cheaper

Leuenberger for cox, because Barlow is playing but wait till hte team are announced. Plus Fisher isn’t a great DT scorer, thornton is dominating at the moment, not sure about the change in price between Fisher and Thornton but check it out.

I just saw i am ranked 88th!!!! Happy with that.

stayed tuned for a post that answers all these above queries and more. and congrats morts, uve got me covered by 1000.

simmonds would be nice…but i find it hard 2 get rid of wood averaging 60 at 120,000 less…opinions people…agree?

i think the DT “Eliminator” section has died out on all of us…

  17. GravatarBy Morts on Mar 31, 2008 | Reply

Yeah I got Woods as my back up ruckman and he is causing me concern. He is cheap yes, but I would prefer to have Simmonds (which I am aiming at getting in two weeks time) because of teh extra 30 or 40 points a game he will give me

Ok Ive got Nathan Jones not really performing, who do you think I should trade him for? I’ll have $428,300 to play with if i put him up for trade. Any suggestions?

What do you think about trading Steve Johnson for Josh Hill to free up a lot of cash this week? Breakeven on Johnson is about 166pts.

Would let me strengthen my backline or upgrade in the ruck.

trading steve johnson 4 hill 2 free up some cash is good or u could go wit c.stokes 2 free up 4 bout an extra 20,000
