The Friday Check-list

Files under 2008 | Posted by Warnie

Last week was MADNESS before the 6:10pm lockout, so here are some things to think about for this week! It will be a lot easier, as we know the Friday and Saturday teams and at 5pm today, we should know the full Sunday line ups (ie. the actual bench, not extended interchange). Here’s what you should do in these last few hours before lockout.

  • Check to see if all of your players are playing. Sounds simple, but you might miss some selection news… make sure your emergencies you have selected are named, if not, work out who is most likely to get a game. Click here for the DT Talk Team Selections for Round 2. Also, check back after 5pm for all teams.
  • Know about all injuries and suspensions. Check out the latest injury and suspension news. The major AFL news sites do a great job of compiling injury lists, so get onto all of those. Be wary of players who are listed as ‘test’ as they are often the late withdrawal types who hurt us so badly! Check out injury lists at: Herald Sun, Real Footy, AFL.com.au, Sportal.
  • Make sure you have a Captain and a Vice Captain selected. Again, an obvious thing! If you aren’t sure about your captain, read Calvin’s Captains for this week and maybe check the weather for the games… as Vin says, you don’t want a soggy captain!
  • Listen to the pre-match on the radio. If there is doubt on someone that you are thinking to sub out, or trade, then listen to one of the radio stations in the lead up to Friday night’s lockout. You might pick up on something at the last minute. I know last year in the finals Dream Team, I heard that Josh Fraser wasn’t playing versus the Eagles and traded with 2 mins to spare!
  • Use your trades wisely. As said on the VidCast this week, don’t trade this week. A player’s value won’t change until after round three, however, if you are playing short on your ground because of an injury, then trade… especially if it is a Scott Lucas or Sean Rusling, etc. But remember Chook’s Ricky Pettrd rule - don’t trade until the last possible moment - after 5pm Friday!

Trading after 5pm Friday? umm - Haven’t we learnt anything yet??? Make sure you have a team ready in case!! - I made one trade this week. My backs are weak and I guessed incorrectly on my rookies, Ive given myself a 1 trade penelty, and fixed one up, and now WILL NOT be having a 0 this week.

Good point Vin, but how many times last year did the servers crash in the last 3 hrs before lockout during the season? Last week was something that happens every year before the first lockout… and worse this year as teams were only announced 1 hr before the lockout and people could make unlimited trades (normally you would have a day to see full teams). It *should* be right every Friday evening now…

Just swapped a rook for a rook chook, needed some security in my backline, not having a 0 again!

To save people doing the research….

BRISBANE LIONS v COLLINGWOOD - A shower or two. Possible thunderstorm during evening. Rain overnight.
WET - Go for smalls, steer clear of Brown and Rocca.
    Safe bet: Simon Black
    Roughy: Alan Didak/Dale Thomas

MELBOURNE v WESTERN BULLDOGS - Drizzle. Mostly Sunny. Mild.
DAMP - Will be slippery, but not that wet. BJ is tempting against the Dees, also Cross and West in the midfield.
    Safe bet: Brad Johnson
    Roughy: Brock McLean.

ADELAIDE v WEST COAST - Showers Early. Morning Clouds. Mild.
WET - Smalls look good, Cox is still hard to go by.
    Safe bet: Scott Thompson.
    Roughy: Dean Cox.

ST KILDA v CARLTON - Under roof but will be very cold
DRY - Rooey has to be the safest of the Round. Saints midfield should run wild. Will Juddy fire?
    Safe bet: Nick Riewoldt.
    Roughy: Chris Judd.

FREMANTLE v HAWTHORN - Sunny. Warm. Dry.
DRY - Will be prefect for night football. Will be battle of the forwards - Buddy V Pav.
    Safe bet: Matthew Pavlich.
    Roughy: Luke Hodge.

SYDNEY v PORT ADELAIDE - Sunny. Mild.
DRY - Great for footy, but its a Sydney game so try to avoid picking captains.
Safe bet: No one. Maybe Chad
    Roughy: Barry Hall. Don’t laugh.

GEELONG v ESSENDON - DOME but Light Rain Late. Afternoon Clouds. Mild.
DRY - Corey will escape tags, and who will be Clinged?
    Safe bet: Gary Ablett.
Roughy: Brett Staton if Watson gets the tag.

RICHMOND v NORTH MELBOURNE - Light Rain Late. Afternoon Clouds. Mild.
WET - Can’t see any captain material in either team.
    Safe bet: Simpson?
    Roughy: Anyone in both teams.

Hope that helps. Also, boys, this is abit of a resume to get me on the team. =)

For the record - BJ is my man.

    LOL Chop.

I agree with this theory. As soon as they have a bad game it means they won’t have any good ones and they will drop in price big time!

    Get them out quicksmart.

i think you’ll find in the last few outings between hawthorn and freo at subi neither buddy or pav have fired a shot. buddy highest tally out of his four games at subi is one goal and pav has been dominated by c brown in recent times

Yeah, that’s why its going to be a battle to see which can break free of their past record….

also whts does he mean by ‘Roughy”?

  14. GravatarBy whoever speaks on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply

scott thompson looks like he has been dropped !! Thought he did ok

  15. GravatarBy The Saint on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply

Kurt Tippet is 95% not playing…thought id give u all that news.

  16. GravatarBy BrayDog on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply

When I say ‘roughy’ its is a risky pick, but could pay off.

Are Tippet and Thompson seriously not playing? Shattered.

  17. GravatarBy The Saint on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply

Yeah i have it from a good source that tippet is very unlikely to play. Definately did not train this week at all. Maric listed as emergency backs my theory.

Also, there will be at least one late change for st.kilda…people interested? or just leave it 2 chance…haha

  18. GravatarBy BrayDog on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply

Ahwell, just change my Emergency over to Gamble. Is it injury? Or just sucks?

  19. GravatarBy The Saint on Mar 28, 2008 | Reply

I have rioli emergency anyway. Tippet was just number 2 back up. But its still frustrating cos u want these guys to get as much value up as possible in the first half of the year. Thats why im pissed at scott thompson. Hope kangas get flogged so he is back in.

Tippet is injured. Nothign serious, just will miss this week if he misses.

As for the st.kilda team, ross lyon seems to be playing mind games every week. Firstly cos theres no way both jones and gardiner are not playing.

Secondly because he plays raph clarke, which means he’s suffering from a severe case of fucked up coaching.

tough question guys but, jonathon brown or nick riewoldt? but yeh who is less liekly to get injured, play more games and do better DT wise?

  21. GravatarBy Besty on Mar 29, 2008 | Reply

Your info was not very good The Saint - Tippet playing

  22. GravatarBy The Saint on Mar 29, 2008 | Reply

Ok i havent seen the side run out, but i am very shocked. Will not get much game time as he has not trained once this week. Im glad he’s playing, hes my 2nd back up forward, but he was definately struggling all week.
