Is this ‘Rookie Round’?

Files under 2008 | Posted by Warnie

AFL Coaches must have been reading this site today, with what we dub as ‘Rookie Round‘. On top of the few blokes who debuted last week, there are a heap playing their first AFL game this week (or one of their first). We’ve got the popular and Pre-Season dominator Albert Proud and team mate Lachlan Henderson pulling the boots on for the Lions. Clint Bartram will be playing for the Dees while Chris Masten and Brad Ebert will debut for the Eagles. The Carlton ruckman, who is not that bloke who was picked at #1, Shaun Hampson will play after team mate Adam Hartlett has been told to have spell for a couple of weeks by the tribunal (or maybe more as it could be hard to get back in the side). Fremantle say hello to popular rookies Garrick Ibbotson and Rhys Palmer (and some other bloke called Chris Mayne). It’s hard to know who will be playing in the Sunday games, but Ed Barlow is on the extended interchange for the Swans, Harry Taylor will be holding down centre half back for the Cats and Lachlan Hansen is named on the wing for the Roos. If you selected one of these guys on your bench (or even ground), you would be licking your lips!

Which one of these guys are you excited about playing this week?

yeah.. talk about some luck like that… i won’t complain too much… cos i had JACK on my ground and was trying to swap him to the bench for BIRD… that was a positive.. and this week, on my bench, the ‘ins’ are PROUD and HANSEN!! :)

I took a punt that Proud wouldn’t break into the Lions side for 6 weeks or so and traded him out. Kicking my self now. Same with Taylor.

Traded them out before round 1 I mean.

Oh good.. glad u didnt commit a DT sin by trading before teams!! haha.. i did the same with Taylor!! If he was named in Rd 1, he was a sure thing for me… possibly even starting on the ground! Oh well, if he is still looking good in 2 weeks, Hartlett could become HT!

I just hope Thompson doesn’t get dropped his on there extended bench.

But got a dilemma who to start Masten, Bird or Palmer.

Wish i still had Proud now.

Jack said it, hope Thompson doesn’t get dropped.

If all is running smoothly I can downgrade a rookie to Proud/Masten if they have some ripper games.

I only have Hampson out of this week debutants, had 29/30 last week.

The people who have picked Bartram - well done.

He will be a Melbourne regular this year.

Only 108K and averaged 58 from 21 games in ‘06.

If he repeats that, which he will, he is looking at reaping you a profit of about $150K.

I had Proud, Palmer, and Henderson in my team at the start of Round 1 and was shattered when they didn’t play. Very glad they are playing this weekend.
