Who Looked Good: NAB Cup Round 2

Files under 2008 | 4 Comments

Essendon vs Western Bulldogs
Scott Lucas (102) pulled out a special performance and loved kicking the ball through the big sticks from a long way out. Some of the ‘cheaper’ Bombers would have caught the eye of DT coaches, Ricky Dyson (101), Leroy Jetta (85) and Bachar Houli (74) would be worthy picks this year. For the Doggies, consistant performers, Daniel Cross (101) and Brad Johnson (100) cemented their positions in a few teams, and BJ said “make me your captain each week!”. Adam Cooney (90) and Matthew Boyd (90) continued to gather it, with Robert Murphy (70) showing he could be playing a bit more of a role up the ground.

St. Kilda vs Geelong
For the Saints, the top scorer was Leigh Montagna (84) with young gun David Armitage (80) not far behind. Charlie Gardiner (75) pulled out another impressive effort and Justin Koschitzke (73) nailed 4 goals. We saw some bigger scores for the Cats, as usual, with Joel Corey (112), Cameron Ling (92) and Joel Selwood (80) dominating. Tom Hawkins (62) showed a bit and is likely to play a bigger role this year.

Carlton vs Hawthorn
Some bloke, who is apparently cheap, named Nick Stevens (133) smashed the DT scores and midfield partners, Marc Murphy (108) and Bryce Gibbs (93) touched the ball a lot. For the Hawks, Tim Clarke (99) could fill a bit of a midfield void in the first few games for the club while Jordan Lewis (87) and Luke Hodge (79) have a ‘holiday’. Travis Tuck (79) found himself on the DT radar with an impressive effort.

Adelaide vs Fremantle
Andrew McLeod (99) was well supported by Brent Reilly (83) and cheap forward Jason Porplyzia (83) in their win over the Dockers. Scott Stevens (82) was good and Scott Thompson (79) looked to carry his 2007 form into yesterdays game. Go to captain dude, Matthew Pavlich (75) started awesomely and as the most ‘durable’ player in he competition is a must pick as a premium forward. Dean Soloman (86) and Paul Duffield (83) showed some class… but you wouldn’t pick either of them would you?!

Righteo, it’s getting close to ‘officially’ selecting your DT team for season ‘08. Here are some points to consider so you get value for your DT dollars. Some players in the AFL are DT guru’s and they know exactly what to do to score maximum points. There’s even more players to watch!

Files under 2008 | 3 Comments

Adelaide

James Sellar- Only 17 years old and an Adelaide native, kicked 3.1 last week against the pies.

Ivan Maric- Plenty of game time this year you would think given the injury to Rhett Biglands, still learning the game apparently but an option in the ruck maybe.

Simon Goodwin- Will he play more up forward this year? A massive option if he does cause he is a gun who will get heaps of it wherever he plays, and goals are a bonus for a midfielder.

Jason Porlyzia- Played off the back flank last week and kicked a goal, would be more used to playing up forward as he did in the SANFL.

Nathan Bock- We all know what this bloke can do, 90 odd one week and 20 odd the next, Dt talk love him though.

Fremantle

The Pav- Everyone knows how good this bloke is, only problem is working out if you go with him or JB.

Arron Sandilands- Bit of a weak ass **** according to Vin, but some people will get tricked into him again this year cause he’s real tall, not me though.

Des Headland- Doesn’t win enough of the ball for me but can be a game breaker, bet he wishes he stayed at Brisbane.

Rhys Palmer- Young midfielder who dominated the U18’s in ‘07, might get a run in the midfield with Haselby gone.

Jeff Farmer- See Steven Milne

Sorry this one is a bit crap, but Fremantle dont have many big DT number winners other than Pav, will try better next time.

P.S. bit hung too!

Pimp My Team: Leon

Files under 2008 | 9 Comments

Leon has his team ’pimped’ by Vin Vin Vin!

Baby Bombers MK.2

Backs: Chad Cornes, Lindsay Gilbee, Nathan Lovett-Murray, Shannon Hurn, Heath Shaw, Xavier Ellis, Martin Mattner.

Centres: Brent Stanton, Byron Schammer, Justin Sherman, Nick Stevens, Brock McLean, Courtenay Dempsey.

Rucks: Troy Simmonds, Justin Koschitzke.

Forwards: Jonathan Brown, Jason Porplyzia, Brendan Fevola, Nathan Thompson, Matthew Pavlich, Angus Monfries, Brad Johnson.

Bench: Lachlan Hansen, Darren Pfeiffer (BACKS), Beau Muston, Rhys Palmer (CENTRES), John Meesen, Matthew Leuenberger (RUCKS), Cyril Rioli, James Sellar (FORWARDS)

Bank: $101k remaining.

Pimp My TeamPersonally this is a pretty good start you have here Mr. Leon. I’m really happy with your back line.  Your centres are very weak dude but I guess you can strengthen this area as the season progresses. Maybe go with a better centre and lose a Brown, Pav or Jonno, you’re a bit greedy with these gun forwards. Get rid of Justin Sherman, he did nothing last year and is doing nothing in the NAB cup (9 touches).  Also, be careful of grabbing mega forward players, Thommo and Fev, 150pts one week, 12pts the next more up and down than a yo-yo with bipolar. Rucks are ok, but both are very injury prone. I’m looking now at potential captains for you. Chad, Brownie, Pav and Brad Johnson – not too bad, you have choices here, with Chad most likely your #1 go to round 1. Well done champ, thanks for supporting our stuff and good luck! – oh and change the name of ya team!

You have officially been PIMPED!
