Who Looked Good: NAB Cup Round 1 (Part Two)
By Warnie on Feb 18, 2008 in Old Posts
And for the remainder of the games over the opening round…
Port Adelaide vs Carlton
Port’s Steven Salopek (115) has continued his DT rise to fame with a solid performance in the middle and Dominic Cassisi (93) also loved the fact that there was no Cornes’ to get the ball first. Travis Boak (80) and Matt Thomas (78) would have had a few coaches thinking about picking them… it was a high scoring ‘centre-fest’ for the Power. For the Blues, Andrew Carrazzo (84) cemented his spot in many a Dream Team and Shaun Hampson (74) made people think twice about Matthew “Who”zer… and at only $130,300 (only $7 more than that number one draft pick guy) could be a good bench player in the ruck.
Essendon vs Brisbane
The Baby Bombers Mark II showed some DT potential with Angus Monfries (86), Jay Nash (82) and Bachar Houli (79) playing in the centre and getting plenty of it! Could David Hille (98) step up to be a premium ruck this year? Lions you bloke Lachie Henderson (67) could quite easily sit on the pine for you and go up in value and Travis Johnstone (67) when in the middle, apparently had it on a string. Bradd Dalziell (52) showed some promise and looks ready for AFL action.
Hawthorn vs Sydney
Luke Hodge (77) is a Dream Team gun. End of story - ball magnet. Grant Birchall (74) could back up again in ‘08 and have a look at Beau Muston (73) on your bench in the centre. Buddy Franklin (61) could have had a huge score if he could kick straight (no goals, five behinds… ouch). Not bad scores considering it was against the Swans. Rookie Craig Bird (84) played on Sam Mitchell (60) and if the new Bird-Man plays, will skyrocket in value. Ex-Crow Martin Mattner (69) looks like a bargain judging by his role he played as a nice outside player. Big LRT - Lewis Roberts-Thompson (66) - was exceptional… but spent a fair bit of time on the pine.
Fremantle vs West Coast
Daniel Gilmore (95) lead the DT points as a second ruck to the “weak arse shit”. David Mundy (91) could be a good mid-priced back if he plays up forward, gets touches and kicks goals! A lock in many teams (well, a few people I know anyway), Rhys Palmer (46) didn’t get much time on ground, but could be a handy bench player. Mark LeCras (70) caught my eye - especially as he is only worth $232,700. The junior, junior, junior Selwood, Scott Selwood (62) looked impressive and could have a good debut season as a centre/back.
LRT’s performance might need to be thrown out as he played in the ruck most of the day and you couldn’t see that happening into the future. Might still be worth picking him anyway as he will play.
Did you go to the Hawks game Warnie? Was it windy?
Molly
Nope.. not at all windy! Perfect conditions… it was Buddy you know! Haha… We’ve been saying it all summer! Couldn’t be any better… first stat he registered - free kick against… no goals, five behinds… we need no ammunition!!
the good thing is though - if he fixes that from his game… he can average 120 points per game easy!!
for those that haven’t see it, Vin is one of Buddy’s biggest critics:

I did forget to mention about Xavier Ellis - could be his year to shine…
Wow, then his shot at one point where he aimed it outside the left hand goal post and it ended up going almost out of bounds on the right hand side of the goals! Thats a nasty hook!
