Hawks Intra-Club Match, plus interview…

The DT TALK crew have been busy today trying to get the latest and greatest information to help support those of you that are as excited as us at the upcoming DT season. This morning we (Warnie, Tit Head, Chook and I) had DTT’s first “official” interview with a player, yes thats right, a scheduled appointment and all!! It was with up and coming superstar Josh P Kennedy (not Juddy-Josh Kennedy) and he is a DT fanatic and very cool. That will be one of the highlights of the first episode which will be released on Feb 20. Plenty of “inside info” tips are given by the big gun, so be sure to watch.

Now, what I can share with you is what I witnessed during the first half of play today in the Hawks Intra-Club match at Aurora Stadium. I will mention the top things I noticed, and will be as unbiased as possible. Click “more” for more…

Lance “Buddy” Franklin - I know Vin posted a very controversial view on Buddy earlier this week. I could see where he was coming from, however, still intended to draft Budweiser. I have been left in two minds after watching Buddy reach negative 9 in the first 3 minutes. I love how Buddy tackles in the foward 50, he just needs some coaching in regard to not getting in the ball carriers back. I honestly thought he would have improved that aspect by now, but left disappointed.

Chance Bateman - not usually a high scoring DTer, but at the end of the half, would have had a easy 60, made up of marks, kicks, goals and tackles. If you are a Chance fan, do not hesitate, its the best I have ever seen him. Brilliant form.

Cyril Rioli - Started in the middle (good sign). Ran very hard, picked up lots of possesion. A must track through NAB Cup.

Tim Boyle - Leading well and kicked 4 goals by half time. Was on the other team to buddy and therefore was the main leading target. Tackling Tit Head will be licking his lips!!

Luke Hodge- Started up foward and moved between there and the midfield throughout the half. Not a bad sign. Played ok, was probably giving 70% for a score of 35 or so at the half.

Sam Mitchell- Same as usual from Sammy. Plenty of the ball, still doesnt realise that kicks are worth more than handballs.

Grant Birchall - Floated between the half back and midfield. Picked up his usual touches and was rarely responsible for a man. Solid half of footy, without being outstanding.

Stuart Dew - Bit more work to do for the kid yet. He is definately getting there, and should be tracked through NAB. Not much ball for the half, but should improve rapidly.

Josh P Kennedy - What an impressive debut. He is a sure thing for some games this year. The son and grandson of the former Hawk greats, this boy is sure to make a name for himself. He started in the middle, laid tackles, ran hard and was nailing 45 metre passes onto the chest. Racked up an easy 20 DTs in the first quarter and will be a star in the next few years. Definately a money maker option and hopefully we get a chance to watch his NBA Cup form. Looked the part for sure!!

PS. Did you get a chance to check out the shoulders on young Joey (that Josh’s nickname. John Sr was Kanga, John Jr was Roo)? They are absolutely massive. I wonder if at some point he might not hold down a key position.

Yeah.. he was a massive unit! There aren’t too many shoulders in the world bigger than Roy’s, but JPK’s definately were!! He played in the guts, and looked bloody big and strong!! Keep an eye on him!! Hope he gets a run in the NAB Cup… a lot of potential!!

Is that $117,000 or 117kg? Because that was roughly what he looked like he was running around with on Saturday.

Yes, yes I know he has lost weight since he got drafted and got fitter but still…. Te man looked like he’d swallowed a sheep. Whole.

I’d only consider him after he has played 2 games because with the Hawthorn team that ran around on Friday he won’t play till May in my opinion.

This is first time in my life when I don’t know what to say. After reading all comments I’m shocked. What has happened with our society, with our young generation? They are commenting terrible information, their lexis sounds terrible. Is that true, that only words they know is “cool”, “cute” and cussing words? What are they thinking of? It’s better not to think about it, it’s too sad
